We hired this company to replace a fence line between ourselves and our neighbors. The fence is well-built. However, the cement posts were left a mess. There was cement in the dirt and rocks along the fence line that I had to clean up, which took me days of work. I had to dig deep in order to get all of the cement, rocks and dirt. No client should have to live with, or clean-up after, a fencing company. Below is just a snapshot of the work I completed.

We hired South bay Fence and Landscaping to replace a doublewide redwood gate entry into our backyard. Mike, the owner, came out personally to discuss the specifics and provide a bid. It was a cost competitive bid, and with our approval, he scheduled to complete the job within 10 days. He provided an experienced crew that did a complete gate replacement, which included digging out the old post footings down 3 feet, replacing the 4X6 posts, and construction heart redwood for the gate boards. The gate is very solid, put together with decking screws rather than nails. The hinge and latch hardware is attractive powder coated black steel. We are very happy with the result, and will use this company for our fencing needs in the future.

Job was completed in 2 days as promised. It looked so good, our neighbor who initially didnt want to replace the shared back fence changed his mind and wanted some additional work done on his property as well. The crew returned 2 days later and completed that job in 2 days. The crew was very accommodating and flexible to our requests throughout the entire job (we requested 6 x 6 posts rather than the usual 4 x 4 posts which made a huge difference in the look that we wanted). They are fast and the quality is outstanding. We would highly recommend them.

Im dissapointed with neighborhood fences that dont last. The materials at Home Depot and Lowes were not the quality that I wanted. After rejecting a number of bids from local fence builders, I contacted Mike Oritz and stressed the importance of quality materials. Mike came over right away and offered to build just wat I wanted - 4x6 treated posts and 2x12 treated kick boards (all Douglas Fir), select redwood rails and cleats, and con heart redwood boards. I only needed my backyard fence replaced (66 feet long). The crew arrived on the day scheduled and removed the old fence and constructed the new fence all in one day! After waiting several weeks for the boards to adapt, I purchased several gallons of sealer, which I applied myself. We love it. You will love working with Mike and appreciate the quality of the job.

Mike Ortiz did a great job replacing our wooden fence and cutting back the overgrown bushes/tree branches that were near the fence. Mike made the extra effort to design the fence so it steps-down gradually, rather than have the fence look uneven on the downhill grade. Its always hard to get contractors to come up to our home in the Santa Cruz mountains, and so I appreciated that Mike was so attentive and answered his phone immediately the times that I called him. His crew are hard-workers and were so professional. They replaced the 800 ft. long fence in 1 day. I love going to my backyard and looking in awe at how lovely the fence looks and how clean the yard looks with the overgrowth trimmed back.

Finally a honest, reliable and excellent craftsmanship construction company. Troy was very attentive to our needs and was there from start to finish. The two man crew Jorge and his helper did a marvelous job in building our fence. They were down to earth, very meticulous, always doing the right way to do things. Word NO is not in their dictionary. They even fixed some portions of my other side of the fence which had fallen and was done by A&J Fencing just 3 years ago. I cant say enough about these two guys efforts and work. Havent seen this kind of excellent workmanship along with humbleness. Unbelievable. I never thought I would have a work done in my house with 0 complaints. And I am not writing this just because they did me a favor or something. I do have my own share of let downs, poor craftsmanship in the past 20 years of owning my current house. These guys were simply superb. I havent written this much of a detailed yelp review ever. I would highly recommend them for your fencing needs.

Mike Ortiz heads South Bay Fence and Landscaping. He listens very well and offers suggestions whenappropriate. Our job was to have approximately 200 ft of redwood fence re-stained and a new 9 ft driveway gate replaced along with 4 ft of fence. His price proposal was fair, and he estimated that it would take two of his men one day to complete the job ( not counting the staining of the gate itself, as the new wood needed approximately 5 Days to cure prior to staining). The job was completed by 6pm and his two workers left. After they left, I carefully reviewed the gate and discovered that:1. It was not level.2. There were knots in the wood- we were assured there would not be.3. The left gate did not match the right gate.4. One hinge screw was missing and two were completely broken off. (They had used the wrong screws with the hinges)5. Five sections of the gate had been gouged by the nail gun being set too high which severely marred the finish.Mike came by soon after our inspection and looked at the gate with us. He was very apologetic, and assured me that they would correct the mistakes. Then he went one step farther. He said he would rebuild both gates completely from scratch and he would also use the highest grade of redwood. He also said he would speak to his two workers and make sure that they understood their original mistakes and that they would not repeat them. We agreed that they would return in four days with new wood and a new attitude toward our job. They did, and the end result was perfect. Note that Mike did not increase his pricing to do this. Essentially, he built two gates for us for the price of one. He may not have made any money on this job, but the goodwill he gained was surely worth it. I would totally recommend Mike to friends and neighbors alike, and should I need additional fence and/or gate work South Bay Fence would be first on my list to call. Incidentally, there were never any hard feelings nor was any anger displayed over the initial issues. Mike no-showed to my confirmed estimate appointment.Mike contacted me about a week later and did not acknowledge that he no-showed at the appointment (as if it never happened).Second consecutive SJ fence contractor (including Noble Fencing) to no-show and also to not acknowledge no-showing. Just had a new fence installed. QUALITY work at a reasonable price. I could tell that the workers took pride in building the fence, especially the large trailer gate. They took no short cuts. As things progressed, and slight changes were suggested, they consulted with me on each and every one so as no surprises.
