Fantastic shop that has everything you need. It’s so nice to work on a real lift rather than jack stands. No complaints here.

Great place to do DIY work. Went there to do a Catback exhaust install and Andrew walked me through the introduction and how to properly setup the car on the jack. Good variety of tools to use and some require special permission, otherwise most common tools are readily available. Did the work in under 2hrs and rental rates are very fair. Definitely will be coming back. Thanks for your help Andrew and James.

I was so excited when I heard about this place. I took a day off to get to know the staff and try it out. Everything was great until the ending. I signed up for a membership thinking that I could upgrade at anytime. The problem was that the sign up process should be cut in two or at least have someone there to help understand the rules if you do your first hour on the sign up day. I was overwhelmed by the initial sign up process and wish I would have started my first hour membership another day after overlooking the contract and asking any additional questions before I actually started to use the shop, but I was confused about their sign up process and I thought that if I went over time that I could upgrade. The reason for the problem is that I got in trouble for wanting to upgrade, and for not knowing the exact details of the contract. I asked if they could cut me a break or let me use next months hours but it just added fuel to the conversation. I was no longer being heard, but being told that I was wrong for not knowing the contract and that I wasnt treating them right and that I kept cutting him off and not letting him finish and then he was cutting me off when it was my turn. So I just asked if I could cancel all together and they looked happy to get rid of me, saying I was a emotional woman. When I cancel, they said I still have two months and cant cancel, cant use my hours next month and to not worry about the cancellation and to just go. They just confused me even more at this point I feel like Im being pranked and almost leave crying.I was pretty shocked because I just wasted my entire day getting to know these people and then I ended up paying $95.00 instead of the original $30.00 and upgrading if I needed more time for my membership I intended to spend on. But they didnt care, telling me they have bills to pay for this operation. I knew I wasnt going to get a break even though I took the day to get to know them and was really patient as they juggled clients, leaving me alone waiting. Leaving my personal information out for other people to see even though I said I have a stalker...they clearly didnt take my safety seriously and I had to turn my paperwork over twice and it was behind the counter where the employees were supposed to have already filed it away.Anyway...I ended up having to treat him like my boss, appease to his ability of being such a great manager, when really I was even more confused than I had ever imagined.I left feeling guilty because the guy has 3 daughters and I guess since I run a nanny agency, he thinks I should do or act differently.I was concerned about my personal information when I was forced to provide my physical address and banking information without them putting it in a lock box as the law says, although I was still comfortable because it looked like they have a lock on the office door, but it brothered me that after I told them how sensitive I am about my personal information, they left my paperwork out in the open as other clients were being signed up.The guy said all this was over a $10 charge, and Im thinking, I just paid a extra $40.00 per hour for 2.3 hours on my first day. And Im just trying to figure out what membership best suites me.This was more than a $40 day.It was a $95.00 day that was supposed to be a $30.00 day. And Im about to run away crying just so damn confused.I wouldnt recommend this place. Just go to big o tire in San Jose. They always do a really good job.

I was there for about 3 hours. This review is based on two factors. 1, equipment. 2, custom service.1, They dont allow you to bring your own oil change tools, but their oil pumps are dirty, never got cleaned.2, Three guys were there. First guy was a skinny guy with long hair, that guy was on the phone chatting with his friend when I asked for help and ignored me. Second guy (a big guy) mocking me for choosing the wrong torque range of a torque wrench. The last guy was super fit and tall, and he was extremely professional and polite( 2 star was because of him, otherwise I will 100% give this place a 1 start or 0 if possible). Sorry I forgot all of their names. Will NOT go back again.

Annoying metal on metal rattling sound from my Tesla’s suspension. Tesla wanted $2,300 to replace the struts with no guarantee that it was the cause of the rattling sound. Andrew provided the much needed guidance where I was able to replace the strut and spring for $60 in shop time and I am now enjoying a silent and safe ride. Excellent resource, professional and knowledgeable advice throughout. DIY or DIE!

OMG!...I was compelled to leave a review as a rebuttal of TRADITIONS TLC long and insensible review.....I should have left a review a long time ago for this awesome gem in Silicon Valley..... I have been using DIY or Die Techshop almost since the beginning and they keep getting better. ..I just happened to be hanging out and waiting to work on my car while TRADITIONS TLC was there getting started. ...OMG!! The poor staff.. ..I felt soo bad for the staff that they had to deal with an individual that was acting neurotic, insensitive, and treated the staff badly. Some people are just way off base. She was loud, unrealistic, and badgering and you could see that the staff was doing the best they could to keep a smile on their faces and accommodate and appease her needs to no avail. I commend the staff on how they handled the situation.DIY or Die Techshop does have a lengthy orientation process. Welcome to California! :)... Where the laws are skewed in the wrong direction and screw the little guy. They have to have a long contract and orientation process to cover every detail, because California is such a messed up state. I get it. I am sure if it was Texas, there would be no need for the staff to go through everything.Going through the orientation process myself, they do a wonderful job explaining things clearly and how things work.If you dont understand things or have questions, then ask the staff. They are extremely helpful and genuinely care. if you are one of those people that just dont get it or is easily overwhelmed with information overload, then ask to take the contract home and review it or spend time on their website which goes through everything. Then go join after you understand things...And the security thing Traditions TLC mentions at the end of her book, is a complete lie. The contract is given to the Owners, who secure the info. I was told, by Mike, one of the owners, that they are in the middle of developing a secure online sign-up and intuitive scheduling process, but it is taking time to work out the bugs and do the complicated programming that interfaces multiple platforms.Personally, I have never had an issue here. I love this place and I hope the stupidity that persists in California state and local governments doesnt screw this place up for us, like it has with everything else that was good in this state. DIY or Die Techshop is a gem in an oasis of our community and set to become iconic. As a bonus, they are located right next to Spike Brewery and an RC Shop. Never Die boys, us gear heads and techies need you.

Overpriced. Not a good idea to visit this place for simple jobs like an oil change and such. After all the equipment and disposal charges were factored in, I ended up spending over $80 for an hours worth of work using just the lift for a routine oil change. The website says $40 an hour but make sure you ask for all the ancillary charges up front. I was hoping this could be my go-to for regular maintenance but the price is untenable. Will certainly not be visiting again.

Clean, organized, and well prepared for issues you may encounter while working on your vehicle. The experience has been the same every time. Limited staff at peak times so you may need to be patient while staff deals with other customers. When you arrive for the first time be sure to park in the lot and walk into the booth in the shop.

This shop is run very professionally, is always clean and tools are in good shape. I first stopped by for brake job and other small jobs. I became comfortable enough to venture into my first timing belt. James and Mike are extremely knowledgeable and are always willing to give guidance and help. This was a life saver for my hobby given that I lived in an apartment without a garage.

Great place to work on your car. The shop is clean, and each station has their own set of tools. The sockets all have their own home, and are very easy to locate. All the basics tools, plus impact guns and torque wrenches are provided. Highly recommended if you need to lift your car and dont have a spot to do it at home.

Great place to work on your car, with expert assistance if you get stuck. Ive changed my catalytic converters there, and a coolant hose hidden under the throttle body behind the engine. They provide the tools, which are good quality, and can order parts from pro distributors at a low markup. They specialize in German cars and I have an old Audi, so I dont have a frame of reference for their skills on American, Japanese, Korean, etc. I think they do a lot of performance stuff but they dont give me attitude about using an Audi A6 wagon as a work truck.

This is the perfect place for the people that love to tinker and/or maintain their ride themselves. A lift was available and I was able to do a tuneup in no time...no waiting. Also, no more working on the ground in my driveway when doing an oil change. Hell, I didnt even break a sweat. I definitely recommend this place. I will be there again when it is time to upgrade my exhaust system.

DIY or Die Techshop was a great experience.Facility, tools, lifts - A+ all in excellent order, clean and tidy. Lights and all the small stuff is there too.Staff - A+ I was there on a Sunday morning and Mike was on. He toured the place, helped me set up the lift. It was my first day under a lift and first day under the car (new car to me), he helped set up the lift and came and shared some insights on the car. I started with a gear oil change - I havent done my own maintenance in years - and Mike was super helpful along the way - no questions too simple. So much better than rolling around on the floor and having a mechanic on hand will give me confidence to do the bigger jobs too.

These guys were fantastic - I was able to go from never having done any work on my car to self-installing new pads and rotors on my GTI in an afternoon. Install went smoothly and they had all the tools needed (I brought my own triple square bits, so cant speak to that). James was really cool about answering any questions and pointing out obvious slip ups.Ill definitely be back for any future regular (or irregular) work on my GTI.

Technically very well organized place but staff is usually not supportive or even rude.. be prepared to rely only on yourself and be charged for everything you touch or askalso, everything what can be rounded (time, gallons, etc.) will be round against customerother than that if you multiply your expected costs by 2 - you will not be surprised in a bad way

Had to replace a bad wire for my airliftperformance controller. I have 0% experience with car repairs and maintenance. James had me in and out in about an hour...that included watching a safety video. The shop is super clean. Each workstation has a professional lift and large tool case with all the tools you need. James was there to guide me on disassembling and reassembling. Cost savings doing it myself was around 50% doing it myself. I definitely have been bitten by the DIY bug and look forward to future opportunities to perform my own guided car repairs at this shop

This is an excellent place to work on your car! Ive done several projects there with and without help from the knowledgeable staff. I embarked on a timing belt 90k service with assistance and something as simple as a brake job and alternator replacement. The staff is super knowledgeable and helpful. The tool selection and organization of the tool boxes themselves is awesome. Not to mention, they have any and every special tool I could possibly need.Im too old to be struggling on the ground digging around for tools getting back up and down from under cars. Call me spoiled now but I prefer to work on a lift now....LOL This will be my place for all of my work to be done moving forward!!
