My mind was blown as soon as I entered. It looks like maybe it was an old bowling alley turned into a music/media store. This place has everything, like absolutely everything. Its like a grocery store for music with all its aisles. They even have a help desk. They have every kind of music from cassettes to vinyls to cds. They even have a separate section just for DVDs. They have merch and posters you can go through. I spent about an hour in here just gazing upon everything. Im glad I came through here this is hands down one of my favorite record stores.
As a music lover, this place is Heaven. Just like the record stores of the old days, only better and bigger.Amoeba has such a deep selection of options for all music lovers…from indie, punk, jazz, classical, metal, classic rock, and more. And they have all music in all formats…vinyl, CDs, cassettes, and DVDs. Also, plenty of other music related items for sale, including retro posters, art, clothing and books. The workers are very knowledgeable and helpful. They also have an info center where they can look up items on their computer to see if they have it in stock. My teenage kids and I felt like kids in a candy shop. We spent over an hour in there looking around, and easily could have spent all day checking out their deep inventory of great music and deep cuts. Most vinyl cost about $20, while CDs were reasonably priced, particularly the used music. This is pretty standard pricing these days. What’s not standard is the depth of their available music, particularly underground artists. If you are a music lover, you have to check this place out!
Have you been to Disneyland? Was it fun? It was about 1/16th as fun as walking into Amoeba Music with $20.Simply because every possible iteration of entertainment is in there and typically priced in the region of schoolyard lunch money.Take your $20 in and come out with:1 copy of Pearl Jam: Ten on cd1 copy of GWARS new album on cassette1 Amoeba pin2 seasons of Gossip Girl on DVDAnd 1 small Richard Simmons action figure. And take your change and go home. Can Disneyland do that?Cannot speak on the Berkeley location, however although the L.A. Amoeba Music is iconic and we loved it, the SF Amoeba is best!
Nice atmosphere. I saw the people who actually bought the CDs in 2021 !!! Awesome 👍
Iconic but not a great record store if youre looking for used LPs (however 45s are in abundance of you dont mind digging). Very very very picked over. Im glad its here and Ill buy new records here (even paying the amoeba premium), but Im basically only coming in on record store day.
Always find something on every trip. Usually pricey, but even online everything is pricey nowadays. Pretty good selection, could be more organized, Not too bad considering the store is pretty good sized. No restrooms available to custumers.
This is the most Awesome place to shop entertainment. All genres of music and film.Staff is knowledgeable on every level. Merchandise including tshirts and hats and accessories. Posters, handbills and a stage for LIVE performances. In San Francisco on Haight St. Paid Parking and Public transportation. You can spend hours here. I did!Lol....hahaha 🤣✌
I love this place because they have everything under the sun when it comes to music and music-related merchandise. Theyre regular and new stock sections are great. Their clearance sections make you feel like a kid in a candy store. Haha
Lots of choices on used cds. Well lit, well organized, helpful staff.
I highly suggest starting or ending a walk down the block at this amoeba location and taking it all in of the nearby area. we came in for a few minutes just to take a peek at what they had in stock. its pretty small compared to the old hollywood location that i had visited but it was a pretty good size anyways. the only reason i would take one star away is because none of the staff acknowledged us and we walked by a few.
Right up our alley! Great selection of CDs, cassettes, and vinyls. Cool part of town as well.
This is a media super store, more vinyl that a 70s sedan, but also CDs, DVD, out of print and hard to find stuff. Expert staff to help you with exactly what your are looking for. Its a music lovers world of wonder and a great place to discover new favorites. PS, its also a great place to people watch.
Cool vibe lots of records (most Ive seen in a retail setting)
Best record store! Everytime I come here I leave with several awesome finds and the used records are always in good shape. Wide variety of genres available as well.
My top favorite record store as it holds the biggest selection of records I have ever seen alongside extremely helpful staff. You can always ask the booth at the center to lookup certain records to save you time.Prices are very competitive alongside having very rare collectibles.Absolutely worth the stop if you ever pass by.
Excellent selection of music, especially vinyl. Helpful staff who is pretty well informed on a wide range of music styles. It’s a great space overall as well. It’s not all too easy to get to by public transportation but there are a few buses which go by; definitely worth a visit if you’re visiting San Francisco.
Loved it!!!! We visited from So. California & I think its BETTER than the store in Hollywood. We left with a ton of cool records, posters & band stickers!!
Prob the biggest record store Ive ever been to, great selection.
My favorite record store in the country. You can find much out of print and hard to find music. Love this place
Well worth visiting for collectable new and old records as well as second hand movies.
MUST GO! Huge selection, cool environment and friendly staff. Definitely stop here next time youre in San Francisco
If you like vinyl you have already been to Amoeba in SF. used and new, its a vinyl Wonderland. I am pretty impressed with the wheelchair accessibility and the helpful staff. if you need close parking I would get there early. like right when they open @10 am. They seriously have every kind of music you can imagine if you are looking for a place to get all your gifts at once I would hit amoeba SF and be done with it. This is a place in San Francisco that still has some soul.4/13/19 UPDATE: amoeba SF might be the best place, & the most fun, on Earth to be or at least in California, for Record Store Day!! The staff are also exceedingly helpful if you have a Mobility impairment. ♿🤘🏽🌈
Huge store with tons of cool stuff. Really great collection of vinyl records.
This record store is absolutely amazing. Selection is unbelievable.Only downside is don’t leave anything valuable in car. We were in store for 10 minutes and came out to windows smashed and our bags stolen at 11 am. Not their fault but still totally sucked.
Super cool place . Found great stuff but we were double charged on 3 CDs adding up to almost 60 bucks .
Large store with helpful staff and huge selection of new and old records
One of the most diverse and comprehensive collections of music seen anywhere - and in every format, including 8 track tapes.
Awesome selection. Staffs very helpful
It simply does not get better. Only the Hollywood Amoeba has this stores number! Staggering array of music and movies to thumb through (and it might could take hours before you realize you gotta stop to save the rest of your day as well as your bank account), and the employees are tremendously knowledgeable and helpful. Whatever youre looking for, of they dont have It, theyll get it. Absolute godsend for pop culture junkies.
One of the largest record stores Ive ever been to in the US. Has a tremendous collection of both vinyl and CDs and it is meticulously organized by genre (rock, world music, jazz, country, classical, etc.). Prices are alright compared to any other store. Definitely returning whenever I come back to SFO.
These people have a wide range of wines to choose from, and I must say that everything I heard about them was completely accurate. Keep up the good work!
Yooo my friend lives next door! Check out Get Home Safe on Spotify!🐦🎶
Huge record shop in Haight-Ashbury with a great selection of new and used records. They also have a large selection of concert posters and tshirts.
Amoeba is the best to check out! I stop here every time i’m in San Francisco. They have such a diverse array of genres, yet have plenty of hidden gems from the more popular styles as well (elton john, bob dylan, beatles - you just have to dig, which is the fun part)! They get new records in all the time, so their selection is always news and different. The main people in the store tend to be locals, and it’s really just an awesome old-school record shop, that also has other random music-goodies like rare concert posters, some clothing and accessories, books, etc. I definitely recommend making time for this as a stop when you’re in SF! And a reminder that if you have a backpack you just have to check it at the door and they’ll put it in a little locker for you right there (and give you a number clip). It’s a super easy and quick process. They also sell reusable Amoeba tote bags that I recommend getting at the register for your records!
Such a wide variety of formats and genres. You could spend a day or two in Amoeba and still not taken in all there is to see.
I was not intending to go to Amoeba when I set out on a walk in San Francisco but I am so glad I ended up there. Not only does Amoeba sell records but they have an amazingly vast library of CDs and some cassettes as well. They sell DVDs, some video games, and lots of music posters. There are cool metal lunch boxes, tahirts, action figured, pop figures, buttons, guitar pick, enamel pins, mugs, and lots of other things. This place has so much character and history. I loved seeing all the displays. I would definitely go again and get some records.
Giant warehouse sized music shop with ridiculous variety, great pricing & helpful, friendly staff.
Fun store with an incredible selection of LPs
A bunch of nostalgia so much music.. wonderful place
Cool t shirts for the nephew, fond memories for me.
Enjoyed browsing a fantastic collection of music. Didnt have the one I was interested in, Ill try he other store.
Great place for cds ans dvds. Relatively reasonable prices.
Good selection! Good vibes! A lot of vinyl
Found about almost all the CDs I needed instantly. The way this place is organized is phenomenal 🥰
Great new school, and old school variety!! Highly recommend Amoeba Music!
What is there to say? Its Amoeba, an institution of uninhibited music culture.
The store was great but the check out process was suspicious. We bought a few things and I assume bc of covid, our bag was brought up to the door to meet us when we left but not only were items missing from our bag but what we did get was covered in stickey coffee? Just a peculiar experience. It was recommended to go by a friend and while a fun experience, I wouldn’t recommend going. To each their own.
This is a real throwback. Every time Im in the Haight I stop at Amoeba to browse even though Ive never bought anything here. With Spotify, Netflix and other streaming services available I have no real need for records, tapes, cassettes, DVDs or CDs, bit if you are into these, then this is the place to go. Its fun to look through all the albums and all the posters on the walls. Definitely fun to re-experience a bygone era!
Amazing selection and helpful staff.
I was overwhelmed. Huge place. Very organized. I needed a tour guide. Lps, 45s, cassettes, dvds, and cds.
It is probably bigger than it needs to be, but its good to know they probably have what I am looking for in stock.
You’ll be overwhelmed with all the vinyls and cd’s they have in there. Spent hours flipping through and come up on some solid records
Awesome place to get music and related stuff
Still overwhelming, so much music. If you go give yourself a few hrs to go through things.
Great record & music store. Has been a long time landmark of San Francisco in Haight/Ashbury area. Great variety of records, DVDs, books, equipment and other gift items
The best of my collection have come from this store. Miss being able to travel down from Canada to walk Haight and enjoy Amoeba and the park all day. Saw Stephan Jenkins play an acoustic show here once upon a time.
So glad it reopened last week after a temporary pandemic closure. I love this place and have been shopping here since it first opened. It has one of the biggest and most eclectic, diverse, and wide range of music from different eras. Their video area is pretty big too. The employees are friendly and helpful, and the information booth is very knowledgeable. And they sometimes have bands performing. You can spend hours searching for your favorite music and the prices are very reasonable, especially their huge clearance sections. One thing, it can get a bit dusty so be prepared to get your hands dirty, literally. So bring along a wet nap.
Wonderful, their prices are comparable to amazon, maybe an extra few bucks, but its worth it for the atmosphere and the huge selection. Check online to see if they have what you want though, and make sure its at this location. Didnt have what I was looking for but I still walked out with over a hundred in records.
Very cool store, so much to see. If you love music, movies or books this place is a must.
Huge collection of LPs and CDs
Have a good mix of records and the staff are helpful
Great selection in all music categories. I nice size area of dvd. All great quality and great prices! Parking lot just up the street.
The greatest record store I have ever seen
So happy to see this record store has not closed!! A must stop and shop if you are ever in the SF area or doing the Haight and Ashbury experience. I called several days before I went just to see if they were still open to get advice about parking since it’s been so long since the last time I’ve been there. The young man on the phone (didn’t catch his name)was very helpful and friendly on giving “Tourist” information and answered all my questions about parking and Covid restrictions and updated me on new things going on in San Francisco. When we finally made it to the store this Saturday it was just as amazing as I remembered. Huge selection ANYTHING you maybe looking for organized and clean too!! There was a young lady clerk who was filling records away as we were asking around where to find a certain Genre she actually stopped what she was doing to help us and directed us where we needed to be. Best record store ever.
Not a big music fan so i wouldnt know if its good or not, but i do know its expensive
I usually go there just to find all movies that I want. Sometimes I have it sometimes I dont. But I think thats pretty normal here. Its a hit-or-miss deal. The staff is always friendly and its always clean. I definitely have no bad things to say about it.
Great collection of vinyls and other music and show business related items with a Haight-Ashbury twist. Never thought Id see a record store succeed again and am glad to see I was wrong.
Such a cool music store to visit! Will definitely come back again
Im so glad this place is still open, I needed to find a retro game disk and they had an awesome one in stock! Great selection of records in stock too.
Cool place and great staff.
The service was exelent prices was great i love it and my family and i have good time there thank you.
Offer everything from videos, cassettes to vynils and DVDs. Even I am not a music expert it was exciting for me to walk through the shop.
Awesome record store in the Haight, plenty of music and books to choose from!
Its a great place to look for that album that you always wished for. Floor plan very organized and the employees are very helpful and treat you like family. Next time Im in San Francisco it will be a sure visit! Ps, I also do shopping on line!!!
A lot of friggen music here bro. I mean a lot of music. You can almost find all the CDs your ex took with them when you broke up. You can spend time in here for hours.
