I always try to rent from Penske as they are generally the best. I also have had great experience at this location in the past. But this caused me a huge headache.They take your reservation but a different customer can extend their rental and screw you over.Booked a truck more than a week ahead. They told me to call two days before to confirm it would still be available (strange, isnt that the point of the reservation?). Fine, I called a day before at 7am. Yes, the truck will be available. They call me at 11am, sorry the customer extended their rental, we wont have anything for you.Great, so I have to move a bunch of furniture out of an apt and you just canceled on me less than 24 hours before.You know how to take a reservation, but you dont seem to know how to keep a reservation.Suggestion: dont let customers extend their reservations within 24 hours of their due date and charge them a lot if they do. Otherwise how can any new customer book something if they cant trust their reservation?

Tl;dr they can give your reserved vehicle away to someone else at the last minute, even if youve booked in advance.Ive rented Penske many times in the past as theyve generally had shorter lines, superior customer service, and better vehicle quality than other companies. Theyre more expensive, but you get what you pay for, right?Unfortunately, no. They canceled my most recent rental last minute because someone else had decided to extend their rental, leaving us stranded with no rental van on the day before we needed to move. Since its the end of the month and last-minute, all similar vehicles from other companies are all rented out. Whats the point of reserving in advance, then? Now we have to scramble for a backup plan because they wouldnt honor a reservation. They werent even apologetic about it.Why not honor pre-existing reservations and reward the people who plan ahead instead of letting someone who didnt plan ahead screw over someone who did? Its a terrible policy, and judging from the reviews it looks like several former customers have been bitten by this.If you change this policy, Ill come back, but for now, Im taking my business elsewhere.

Worst company I have ever rented for scammed me out of $80 for a gas charge that was incorrect. Don’t rent here go through another company they are just pathetic. Will never do business with this company ever again. I want my money back and they take you through circles of who to contact about it . Karma will get this company and location I promise!!!

There is something funny going on there. It like commotion but when they recognize you all action stops. As if they were up to something. Weird, but they do have trucks and vans; friendly with a smile. Location not too too bad. Dont return after dark, its a different neighborhood.

Had reservations for a cargo van because of location we where going to in San Francisco. Had three on the lot plus a sprinter . Was told when I arrived that they where all for other customers.. had to wait for them to check a 12 ft in before they had 1 available. Took over 30 min. Still sitting while they work it out. Always feel like A 3rd rate customer ( we have a 6 yr lease truck with Penske)

They let me sit inside the truck so I could get an idea if I would feel comfortable driving the truck on my own. They also have a super great unlimited miles deal for one way moves.

Great convenient location for picking up trucks. Picking up my truck was quick and easy. The truck was clean and in great working order. Their prices may be more than U-Haul, but its worth it for peace of mind with reservation guarantees.

Overall, I had a great experience at Penske. This is a great alternative to Uhaul. The service is better and the faster. It is more expensive, but worth it. Note that this location is a bit out of the way. You can also get a discount through AAA.

With a half hour before closing on a weekend, they were able to provide a commercial grade truck with a liftgate and a 24 box without issue.

It is unfortunate that the quality of this location has gone down steeply since their previous manager Mark Clay retired. This is the only location that a reservation doesnt mean anything. They have either have had broken units, the wrong trucks, or no trucks at all the last couple years. I have brought up the issues with the new mgr Armando, but it has only gotten worse, no signs of any improvement. I also talked to the corporate offices and the regional mgr, but they dont seem to care either as they had no follow up with us in any way. Save yourself a headache and use Ryder, or go to South San Francisco Penske.

Ive done the top 3 (uhaul, budget, Penske) and by a mile Penske was my favorite because of this particular vendor. The guy running the office that day, Armando, was insanely hospitable and helpful. He upgraded our truck for the same price and looked through every single truck to find us the one with the lowest mileage. We ended up with a brand new truck with quality much higher than the other competitors mentioned above.When I told Armando I was moving up to the PNW he hooked me up with a huge discount and an extra day to travel for free (I saved roughly $400/500+. As a poor student, he made my day and I never asked for a thing. Armando is a good dude looking out for his customers. I highly recommend this vendor location. We were in and out within 15 minutes.

Absolutely the worst! I booked a rental here to carry my camps gear up to Burning Man, confirmed it online and twice on the phone and despite having a copy of the confirmation they wouldnt let me rent. Instead I had to rent from Budget Truck (which as great) and it cost me over $1,300 in additional expenses. Avoid Pesnke at all costs!The long story...After reading the positive reviews here (and from some friends), I booked a small truck 10 days in advance online, gave my credit card information and received an initial e-mail confirming my reservation. Price was great for the 9 day rental (~$700 + mileage), but given that it was for Burning Man (and after reading reviews here and elsewhere about cancellations), I called the branch to confirm they would be OK with it. They said they were and confirmed my reservation and pickup time again. As part of my final trip prep (and a bit OCD as well) I called once more, two days before pickup; again, everything fine.I show up on Saturday morning about 10 mins before my reservation time and see they have plenty (at least 20) trucks in the lot, as well as several other people going to Burning Man in the office in line. When I get to the counter, the rep pulls up my reservation, has me start filling out forms and then confirms my rental Ok, Jeff, so youll be returning later today or tomorrow? I was a bit surprised but figured he misread the screen and clarified it was for nine days. He said thats impossible as they dont rent for that long, at which point I pulled out my phone and showed him the confirmation I received from them. He looked again in his system and acknowledged that it had the same information but that they never rent beyond three days, except in business rentals. Strange, considering their website let me book another similar reservation while I was standing in the office. He also said I had to confirm it over the phone (which I did), but he didnt have it in the system. I said I had phone records showing my call, but he said it wouldnt matter, its too late now. Im getting increasingly frustrated but also need the truck so ask him how to go about fixing this (even if it costs more). He says the only way is to get a Business rental that would involve extending my liability insurance to the rental. I say Im fine doing this but he says that they cant even start the process until my insurance company faxes over the form and then it takes at least several days given available inventory and we have to verify the policy is sufficient. I call my insurance company, up my policy (and premiums) to cover what Penske needs ($500,000 in coverage for the vehicle type I am renting) and they fax it over to the branch. They say no fax has come in, at which point it becomes clear that they dont want me to rent this truck, no matter how hard I try to jump through their hoops. Luckily, my brother was able to get another rental via Budget which I could pickup the same day - bad news, it cost another $1,300!Lessons learned on my end: AVOID PENSKE AT ALL COSTS, have a backup plan an d go in-person to pre-confirm the rental, since phone records apparently dont cut it.
