Fun place to shop. Loved chatting with the wok lady who has worked there for a number of years. We always stop in anytime we are in San Francisco!
Woks: Great quality, looks nice as well. Cooks like a charm. Service was rude and mean. That’s not very nice.
Worst customer service ever.I placed an order a month ago and I kept calling to follow up with them about my order. First they told me that one piece of my order was out of stock. Second time I was told told that they just received the piece and it is being shipped. Third time I called, they were not sure about the order and the order is lost and not even shipped.Even though I understand how busy they are, the whole time I was being nice and didn’t have an attitude at all. Just upset and frustrated. The woman I talked with on the phone,(the store manager) got very irritated and mad at me. She started to raise her voice, admitted to me that they simply can’t catch up with the orders because of their low price. They are a bad company, they neglected my order they will just cancel it since both parties are frustrated. Then she told me the most important part is I didn’t get charged. I will only be charged once the order is shipped therefore I don’t have to worry about it. I don’t understand why am I, as a customer, being treated with no respect. Later on she told me the part of my order is out of stock due to the supplier discontinuing the product and instead she can ship out another part. Just when I asked about the material of the replacement, she again got cranky and said you think we ship out bad product to you? We give better one to you. But later on when I received the package, it’s just a aluminum lid. I wonder if this is the “better” item she was talking about.I finally received my order after a week, it’s funny that on one item there’s a label stated that it’s made in USA but when I took off the label, there is another label underneath and has Chinese letter on it. I doubt if it’s actually made in US.Regardless of the product itself, I definitely do not appreciate the company and am not satisfied with their customer service.
Like many of the others I too placed an order online in January of 2021. I received my order confirmation, tracking number, and estimated shipping time. Guess what? Nothing came! I sent an email that was never replied to, called twice only to find out the wok I wanted was out of stock and was given the option to select another of equal value. Again, I placed the order, again I waited for my parcel to arrive within 6 days, and yet again I was let down. I called for a refund which was ignored, and only after getting my card company involved was I given a refund.I offer two suggestions for both parties; for anyone who wants to purchase something online from this brand: dont do it; go in store, or else where if you can.For the wok shop: please hire someone to help resolve your online orders, and act as a customer service representative.
Horrible customer service. I placed an order on Feb 22, got a confirmation and never heard from them again. About a month later I contact them, lady was VERY nice, said she had my order right there and it would be shipped out within a few days.Today is April 19, and I have not received any communication about my order, so I called again. The lady I first spoke with said that they are out of the round bottom, would I like to instead get a flat bottom. I said sure. Then they were out of the black handle, would I like to get the red one instead. Again, I said those changes were fine. Then she started asking me for my credit card number - which I provide with my original order, so I didnt understand why it was needed. I simply asked why it was needed and the phone was given to someone else (I was told the manager) who proceeded to yell at me about how trust worthy they were and I shouldnt doubt them. I asked her why the lady needed my credit card info, if I already entered it - she told me how would I know? I just got on the phone with you? So then we started to review the order again, which she interrupted many times, and started yelling again. I said very calmly, Im sorry it feels like you are yelling at me, can we calm down and figure out what is going on? The lady yelled at me that she wasnt yelling at me and that she was just going to hang up if that is how I felt. Then hung up.No clue what is going on now.
Very poor customer experience!I am going through a similar experience that many have posted about here. I ordered online almost a month ago and received an order confirmation with a link for tracking. The confirmation said at any time, check the status of your order. I waited over two weeks and sent a polite inquiry about order status. I received a prompt reply saying they had run out of the product, but make their own, and just made some more. The order would ship on 2/25/21 and to allow five business days for delivery. Five days have come and gone with no delivery. Absolutely no communication. Why lie? Why say you will update the tracking status and not do it? Very poor experience so far.Do yourself a favor and find another source for your needs. Its not worth the headache.
My order for a new wok came quickly with excellent communication from the owner and detailed instructions for seasoning the wok. My last purchase was eleven years ago and the owner was most helpful then in selecting the perfect wok for my new stove. I did not experience any delays or bad customer service. I will be back again.
Awesome!!! She was giving an interview... such a vivacious, engaging woman! Wokshop dot com
Warning- Do not order online! I placed an order online, and submitted my credit card payment including a shipping charge of about $28. Other than an order confirmation, I heard nothing for almost 8 weeks! I finally inquired as to my order status, and was asked to pay an additional $11 to $16 for shipping, and told the shipping charge could go even higher! This is outrageous. The seller does not get to renegotiate the deal 8 weeks later. We had an agreement, and the Wok Shop did not honor it. This is extremely unethical, so it comes as no surprise that the Better Business Bureau gives them an F rating. Online shoppers beware.
I just finished seasoning my new wok and I had to review it immediately. This thing is a work of art! And to make art, it takes time!!! Yes, my order was delayed. Not by much. 100% worth the wait. It is beautifully made and completely non-stick. I’m so impressed. I will recommend them to everyone.
I hope I gave them a zero star. It is a nightmare to purchase something from them. In the end of last year, we placed an order, including a cook book. Their cook book is out of stock, so we request to get a refund. We called and emailed many many times. In each time, they said they will refund us, but we didnt receive the refund so far. In last month, we gave up to get a refund. We talked with them, and agreed to get some steamers from them instead. Of course, no more news and no steamers from them. And they didnt pick up the phone anymore now. If you buy stuff from them, be ready to tortured in years!
I LOVE this place. Im in Austin, TX. I received the wok we ordered but was concerned because of the handle and it seemed to be missing a part to keep it tightened. I called and a nice woman answered the telephone on the SECOND ring. A LIVE HUMAN answered. She was so very helpful and told me what to do to keep my wok handle on tightly.Im so pleased with this wok. I have a larger wok but I wanted something that is smaller so when Im home alone, I can cook a meal just for myself instead of bringing out my heavier, 14 wok. This fits the bill! Finally, the wok was here in a matter of only a few days from the day that i ordered and I ordered much later in the evening.Good service means a lot to many of us and The Wok Shop is all that and so much more. Ill be using them again and sending my friends and family to them as well.My thanks, Wok Shop!
The best in store shopping experience I have been craving for ages!! This is WAY much better than Sur La Table and Williams Sonoma IMO.The ladies there are very friendly AND knowledgeable about any products they sell there. I was so overwhelmed by the amount of goods there like a kid in a candy shop LOL!! Sooo many stuff to check out!! As soon as i told Ms. Amy what I was looking for, she can immediately make product recommendation to me right away and suggest dishes i can make with that product. Awesome!Price is absolutely reasonable, no need to do price check on Amazon at all. (I am personally surprised because rent in SF is so high!!!) This shop specialized in CHINESE kitchen supplies although they stock other Asian cookware as well, I can really find anything I need to cook any old school chinese dishes there.I highly recommend to shop there IN PERSON than online. They are small shop therefore no way they can provide FAST online shopping experience like amazon or other websites. I can tell they were overloaded with online orders and customer inquiries over the phone when i shopped there.Love this shop so much and definitely will visit again whenever we are in town.
Very knowledgeable, warm, and friendly proprietor. Good quality woks.
Does not respond to Emails and Phone does not work. Dont order anything off the website unless you want to be extremely frustrated. My order was placed May 20th and 3 months later it never arrived.
Good luck getting an online order. I placed an order on Dec. 30, and received a confirmation email. After no shipping report by Jan. 16, I asked on the status. The reply said they would ship my order as soon as it was available, “this week.” I checked in again on Feb. 9, and received no reply. On Feb. 11, I emailed to cancel the order.
Can I give ZERO gold stars?? Online order---Lost. Phone order--Lost. Third try will ship tomorrow, two day shipping and nothing. When I call the owner gets uptight and tells me I should have gone to Target if I wanted efficient service. I cancelled and then a MONTH later here comes the wok. I refused delivery and now I have to hassle with the dragon lady for a refund. But they have been in business for 53 years in high rent San Francisco. Sheeesh. I cannot recommend this establishment for anything .
I try to support in-person shopping. I could have also bought one wok from Amazon. As I asked her how woks diff from each other, she replied, why dont you Google or Youtube? I was not even welcomed to take a look at other cookwares in the shop, I was asked to leave. I am Asian and I feel insulted.
What a ridiculously bad customer experience. I placed an online order December 30th for a wok, two rings, and a spatula. After multiple follow-up emails, I receive an email three weeks later saying sorry, your order was misplaced, we dont know why. Orders usually ship same or next day. We have all of your items in stock. My assumption at this point is that they are shipping it immediately. NOPE! After a few more days of emailing for confirmation, I get another reply saving sorry, the wok is out of stock now. Factory is behind. Cancelled my order and ordered a Craft Wok on Amazon. Apparently the in-person experience is better, but DO NOT order online!
REVISED RATING - I have to update this rating. Yes, I had a bad experience and did not like that this company mislead me on when I would get my order during the 2020 holiday season hoping for a gift for my son. I canceled the order and bought elsewhere. A few months later I got a confirmation that my order is being delivered? I called the store and they said to deny it if I do not want it. Well, I received it and the quality of this wok and the entire package was excellent - the quality of the wok is great. I had to keep it. I followed their seasoning instructions and I just love this wok along with the utensils that came with it. The only problem now is that I have an awesome wok and my son has a nice one but not of this caliber. I do recommend to buy products from this company. My OLD REVIEW follows here in quotes: Do not order from this company. I ordered a gift a month ago. I have spoken to the store two times and the customer service was terrible and misleading. Now they will not answer the phone or respond to emails. Maybe the store is good if you can visit but do not order online!! Supposedly the product is made in the US. I do not believe that anymore. Just tell your customers the truth please!
Absolutely TERRIBLE customer service. They may run a good shop in San Fran, but online they are absolutely abysmal. Put in an order and heard nothing for WEEKS. Sent emails asking politely about my order status with my order number, nothing. Call to cancel - good luck. Do NOT order from this place online EVER. Their communication is completely nonexistent. No updates, no hey were sorry but Covid is running us ragged no we still have your order but itll be late - not one word at all. If you go visit the shop, get whatever you want while youre there. But do not, do not, DO NOT order online. I wouldnt even give them 1 star but I had no choice.
I called three weeks in a row. Everytime I told the wok is on its way. The lady on the phone got really upset with me for asking for a tracking number. Then she says call Trump if you think we are cheating you. I just wanted a tracking number. Its whoever choice to purchase from this company but I do not recommend this company. Also I will give the BBB a call. I dont want anyone else to have the same experience as I did.
Absolutely amazing staff. We were just walking past and of course seen the workshop with zero intentions of buying anything. We seen the products and how informative the staff were. Very helpful in all our questions along with very accepting of children and entertained our young boys with a couple exotic candy along with a small toy. Very happy with this shop and highly recommend.
I put in an order online six weeks ago and have heard NOTHING since then. No updates whatsoever. (Of course, the occasion I was trying to buy the wok for, as a gift, has come and gone in the interim.) I have no idea if they’re ever planning to send me the items I ordered, and when I call to inquire and/or cancel the order (so that I can go buy a wok elsewhere), I get no answer or get a busy signal. If this is a delay due to COVID issues, they need to just stop accepting online orders. If you can’t find the time to communicate with a customer about an order even SIX WEEKS after they placed it, then you shouldn’t falsely portray yourself online as a functioning vendor. Just admit that you can’t function right now and take the shopping portion of the website offline.Definitely recommend avoiding this store’s online shop.
Absolutely HORRIBLE customer service!I ordered 2 woks for Christmas gifts the 1st part of December. When they hadnt arrived in two weeks I called several times. The phone just rang and rang, no way to leave a message! I sent an email to cancel my order.Today, February 6th, I received a debit from my account for the cost of 2 woks!MAD!! I will never buy another thing there.
Went into the shop yesterday to purchase my first wok and was helped out by Tane Chan herself who was very knowledgeable and helpful. The store was eclectic and fun to explore, something I havent really done since SIP started. Received a lot of helpful advice, a lot of accessories and even some free items. The store is definitely worth a visit and I will be back!
I stepped inside to find a ladle with a small bottom spout to strain off soup from the fatty top layer. The shop doesnt have it because these special ladles havent been made for years, claims the shop owner. In the end, she helped me buy a different product that does the same thing. The shop is stuffed full with cookware for low prices. If youre looking for utensils, pots, woks, etc. This shop would likely have it.
Ordered a wok on December 1, with absolutely no update apart from the order confirmed email. Called today - had to call multiple times - only to be told that what I ordered is out of stock. I was happy to buy from a small business, but this is very poor customer service. Very disappointing.
As an online shopping experience the Wok Shop was pretty bad. More than a month after placing my order, multiple unanswered emails regarding its status, and two phone calls, a week after finally talking to the shop my order was shipped. I LOVE the products I received, but the headache of getting my order makes me never want to shop online here again. If you can go in person, do. If you can only shop online be forewarned you will likely have to be a nagging, persistent customer to get your order actually shipped and to you.
I was referred to this shop for quality works. I ordered a set December 7, weeks later I still had no confirmation of any kind. I called the store and the woman was very rude. I worked at a mom and pop shop, and I would have never spoken to a customer the way she spoke with me.She then proceeded to tell me my order had been on backorder (never indicated anywhere) and that it would go out for shipping that evening. Four days later a label was generated, and its still in San Francisco somewhere. Be upfront with customers about where the product comes from, and if its on back order or out of stock. So rude, Ill be returning the wok set and demanding a full refund, including the $30 to ship. Ridiculous.
Update product review:- I bought wok, wok adaptor, bamboo steamer, spatulas.- wok so far is fine. but wok adaptor is so light, it wont stay in on place and dramatically tinted the wok experience. Havent found a good solution for that yet.- bamboo steamer is full of splinters, improved a tiny bit after one streaming session. not sure if itll keep improving with more usage.- spatulas wooden handle fell right after getting home. followed the instruction to pound it in, fell again after.- In general, you get what u pay for. cheap stuff (in American dollars of course), cheap quality. These do not present real Chinese cookware quality. These (the wok may deserve a bit more credit) r the lower tier stuff if u ever shopped in chinas cookware market. If you r buying Chinatown souvenir, and just want to cook with them very occasionally, these r not bad choices.Do not recommend if u want serious cookware.--------First Impression--------EXTREMELY RUDE, WALK IN WITH CAUTION. Products aside, since I havent used them enough times. I cant believe how rude the owner was. I was being nice, listening to all her suggestions, and got almost 90 dollars worth of goods. While checking out, I asked: Is there any discount, cuz we do get student discounts lots of times when we ask while shopping. That, for some reason, set her off. She started yell at me, making assumptions about me (I make a lot of money, my parents sent me to IVY School, none of which were true), lecturing me for asking for something so normal anywhere else. She embarrassed so hard in font of every body that was in the store, and walked out on us, until her coworker started apologizing to us, saying shes 84 years old. Ya, you heard it right, the reason she could yell at and humiliate her customers for doing nothing wrong was because shes old. Never going back. Rather spend a bit more money elsewhere.
I placed an order on December 10 and received no communication until I followed up via phone today on Dec 21. I was told my wok was out of stock (website says in stock but she confessed they don’t update the site) and that they wouldn’t make that version any more. Ironically she told me the one I initially selected wasn’t “authentic” in a bid to fulfill the order with an alternate.I was willing to accept an alternate but she refused to overnight despite her mistake. When I asked her to help me get it on time for Christmas, the woman told me, “Give me a break! You don’t need [the Christmas present] on Christmas Day!”I will be going to Amazon. For the record, I did try to “shop small.”0/10 would not recommend
I placed an online order on November 9th, and have received no update besides the initial order placed email. The order on my account still says Invoice Printed. I have attempted to contact them several times across their email, online contact form, and phone numbers, but I have not yet heard a single reply. I want to support this local business, and based on other reviews their products are great quality, but to hear nothing for a month and a half is unacceptable. I placed my order well before the holidays, so even if they are busy now, there should have been plenty opportunity to respond to me earlier. I hate to add to any stress during this time of year, but this WAS intended to be a gift, and now I have to tell the recipient it will be late. This review is to encourage anyone considering this shop to avoid placing online orders, as their customer service is terrible and your order will probably be arriving much, much later than you are anticipating.
Illegally charged my card multiple times. Ignorant reactive emails. Bad service
I placed an order for a wok as a gift about one month ago and the only correspondence I have received was the initial order confirmation email. I never received a tracking number or shipping confirmation. I assumed the delay was COVID and/or holiday related. It wasn’t until I looked up the shop on google maps and started reading reviews that I realized so many people have had similar experiences. Although I’ve emailed the shop several times, I’m scared to call them because of how others have described the rude and irrational customer service! Maybe shopping in person is a normal experience but I would not recommend trying to shop online here.
Freaking love this little shop. The owner is super cool, a lil blunt for some people but super knowledgeable. I come here every time Im in Chinatown
Outrageous customer service. LYING owner/manager tried to tell me something is wrong with me for having a gas stove (seriously), before lying and saying my order would arrive in “6 business days”. This was about a week ago, order was placed on December 9, today was told that actually, they don’t have the model I ordered, and have no idea when they will have it but assured me they will contact their supplier in Mexico! What a complete f****** joke, 0/10 DO NOT order from here.
Placed and received items as ordered online. One month later was notified that my items were ready to be shipped. Contacted Wok Shop letting them know that I had already received items and that I hadnt placed another order - hadnt even been on their website since original order was placed one month earlier. They did not respond to my emails or phone calls trying to stop the shipment and now dealing with non existent customer service. Now after receiving duplicate order (and chargest, trying to return with ZERO response from Wok Shop.
Unprofessional and very rude customer service. Loudly bad-mouthing your customers and other products on the market is very distasteful. You can buy whatever they’re selling elsewhere. Highly UNrecommended.
Really disappointed with their online shopping experience. Before placing order I emailed them asking if there’s any promotion or free shipping. No answer. Called, a lady picked up telling me no free shipping. Fine, Placed an online order on 10/7/2020 and started waiting. Emailed them 10 days later, again no answer. Another 10 days later called them, the lady picked up, telling me she would call me back in 15 min. No returning phone call. I called again and the lady told me that they need to pack the items and weigh it. Obviously no one did anything on my order until I called 20 days after the order was placed. Ok, this time she called me back telling me I need to $20 more on top of the $33 shipping fee that I have already paid when I placed the order. In the end I cancelled the order. I was really looking forward to try their products but the service is so bad. Will never buy again and will not recommend to anyone.
Just ordered a wok from them for Christmas. What an amazing piece of cookwear.
This place has TERRIBLE, RUDE customer service. I placed an order online, received confirmation, etc. When the package didn’t arrive, I checked the tracking information only to find that the label was created but never scanned or picked up. When I called the store and spoke with the manger, she immediately blamed the post office and told me to call them. I asked her to look into the issue and she assured she would, but I of course received no response. After I contacted the post office, they confirmed that the package was never picked up and that in fact, the label was cancelled because of this. At this point (about a week after the initial call, and two weeks after it should have been delivered) I call the Wok Shop back. I explained the situation, and they again blame the post office and tell me to contact them. When I attempted to explain that I had already had this same conversation and had called USPS only to have them tell me that the label was cancelled because the package was never picked up, the manager interrupted me 3-4 times and kept telling me to “calm down” and that the package was probably sitting at my house somewhere. She then just continued to blame the post office regardless of me asking her to help, and refused to do anything but interrupt me and continue to say it was “out of their hands”. Needless to say I will NEVER purchase from or recommend this place. Now I spent almost $100 for literally nothing. They are FAR beyond rude, and don’t understand the meaning of customer service.
I don’t know what the in person experience is, but definitely don’t order from them online. I really wanted to get my husband a wok for his birthday and after researching options online wanted to order from a local store instead of amazon. This was a horrible idea since it has now been 2 months and I still haven’t received it - they don’t answer their phone and won’t respond to email. It’s not like the products are that cheap either so I will need to file a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back.
Business never updated hours. I came during supposed business hours but it was not open and I had to wait for 20 mins till it did.But when they did finally open they had everything I needed and the people were very helpful.
Really helpful and friendly. Great selection. Cant wait to cook in my new wok!
Its now TWO months since I placed an order. Again, no communication from them; again, called both of their numbers, but both had the busy tone (an improvement from hearing the lines are disconnected?). Ill keep waiting, just so I can report to you would-be shoppers on how this bad adventure goes.Ive been waiting for my order over one month and havent from them, so I wrote to them, but havent heard back. This morning I phoned both of their numbers and a recording said that the numbers are either disconnected or no longer in service! Can someone please confirm that the shop still exists?
A classic SF shop to purchase kitchen tools, teaware and many other things. Wonderful staff and lots of unique finds.
Wish I had read the reviews before ordering, very rude customer service, did not care about fulfilling the order in any reasonable time, will likely have to execute a credit card chargeback to get money back as I doubt the refund will be processed given the organization of the store.
Placed an order a month ago. Spoke with a women several times who kept telling us she was going to put the Wok in the mail. Each time we spoke she had another story about why it hadnt gone out & how she was going to add a special birthday card or accessory. So today we called again & she said it would go out today at 4pm their time & she would email us the tracking #. We never received the tracking # so we called & she acted like we hadnt spoken that day! I give up. She is very rude & the Customer Service is non-existent.
Great selection of cookware with a knowledgeable owner to help guide in your purchase! I had such a pleasant experience they will be my go to
In an attempt to eat healthier as the pandemic hit, I purchased a wok and accessories from The Wok Shop that never came. At first I received emails apologizing the order would be delayed. Now after 6 months they won’t even answer my inquiries.
Poor customer experience. Cancelled order after it was nearly 3 months late. Called repeatedly, varying explanations and promises of shipment that never came to be.
Ordered on line. Definitely a mistake because theres been no responses when inquiring where and when my order is goint to ship. The product did end up arriving and is over all a good quality product.
Very excited about the gorgeous hand-hammered wok I ordered. It took a while but was worth it. Shipping can take awhile but you wont be charged until your order is delivered.
Great place to get everything you need if you want to get better at wok cooking. They have inexpensive hand hammered carbon steel woks, tons of cooking gadgets, and some cookbooks. My favorite place to go in Chinatown!
Horrible customer service from the owner, Tane Chan. My order was a month late and I had to write several e-mails to get an update on shipping. Besides being a month late, I never received everything that was promised in her email to make up for being late, e-mails sent later on were ignored. Finding another store next time and wouldnt recommend getting anything here.
SHOP ELSEWHERE! Very poor customer service. I placed an order for one knife. Reviewed the invoice and saw two were ordered. I tried calling but all I ever get is a busy signal. I received my order and one of the knives had a bent tip. Tried calling - busy signal. I will try emailing but I am not hopeful. What follows is an email to me from Ms. Tane Chan — We care about our customers. Doesnt 53 years in business, same merchants, same location tell you something about us. You are petty...you should be big hearted and minded. Too small!!!! Not a gentleman. TC —
Such a gem. The store is packed with kitchen stuff. But I came for the woks. I knew I wanted a round bottom wok, and the woman working the cashier gave me some good advice about the best handle to use and how to season the wok. Prices are great and they said to call if I have any questions. I love stores like this and hope this one thrives!
Mail ordered my wok, with lid, seasoning oil, and bamboo brush. All was very reasonably priced, and arrived promptly. The quality is excellent! I especially appreciated the detailed leaflet about wok seasoning and maintenance, and the two freebie spatulas were a nice touch. A wok from here, together with Grace Youngs superb cookbooks, and youll be stirfrying like a pro in no time!
Do not order from online. I placed an order Dec 10th 2020. After two months there has been zero communication from them regarding any delays. They have not responded to emails and every time I have tried to call there has been no answer.
I went there on a whim in search of some kitchen gadgets and came out with a wok and a bag full of everything you could possibly need. I was MOST impressed by the customer service provided by the store owner who was not only insightful but extremely comical while doing so. I can’t recommend this place enough, they’ve been around forever so they know what’s up!
My boys and I bought a wok with accessories there yesterday. The lady was so helpful, and spent tons of time teaching me techniques. She talked me OUT of a larger, more expensive wok, telling me it wouldnt meet my needs. She obviously enjoys her culture and wants us Americans to have a fine taste of her Chinese cooking. Would definitely return! In fact, next time Im in The City Im going to tell her about all the dishes weve made with her wok!
Great flavor from the owner
I wont recommend this store. The middle age men and I were in the store yesterday. The staff is very friendly for middle age American and trying to promote the wok culture, answer everything in detail. But She is very unfriendly for Asian. Our conversation as belowMe: Whats the difference between Cast Iron and Carbon Steel wok? And which one is easy to care?Staff answer: Every wok is the same, no different, only the price and brand are different. You dont know how to care your wok and cook, its your own problem, dont blame our wok. You dont like our wok, go to Macys and buy the fancy and expensive thing.I was shocked about the customer services and left the store.
This shop has been around for many years for good reasons. The people there work hard to help you with your cooking needs. If you don’t know what you need, just give them a description and they will most likely have a solution for you.
IF YOU DONT LIKE RACISM, DONT SHOP HERE. I had an odd experience here. My wife, daughter, and I were shopping and had picked out a wok. My wife asked if any discounts were available, which prompted the saleslady to start yelling weirdly racists comments like Who do you think you are? and Go back to China! The woman behind the counter joined in the yelling. They kept yelling at us as we left the store. Im Korean American and my wife is Chinese. I assume some of the employees are Chinese. Weird
Perfect for cooks.
Happened in looking for some chopsticks for an event and left with all kinds of other things as well. Prices are decent, breadth of merchandise is impressive. Both employees I spoke with were very friendly and helpful.
Was a customer of their online store for years, glad to stop by the retail store. Amazing how much they have crammed in that little place! Very reasonable prices, helpful staff/proprietors. Classic kind of place, not to be missed. Get a nice, hammered carbon steel wok, itll out last you.
I bought 4 cleavers there. They are great brands at a low price. It was really a deal. Will be using them at my meat and seafood market at 2704 Mission St.
Great store! I visit every time Im in s.f., bought my first wok there and still usu g it 39 years strong! My children have received their first from there also. Tsne the owner is a character and she adds lots of challenges and charm! Recommended stop for everyone!Beanso6
Bought my wok here three years ago and it is still my favorite pan to cook with to this day. The guy who works there hustled me into buying me more stuff than I needed but I allow it. This place is pretty cool overall and the people there are knowledgable.
I bought an unseasoned cast-iron wok and some flax seed oil here for next to NOTHING! The wok came with a cute little pamphlet explaining how to season the wok to a smooth, slippery, non-stick perfection. When I was done I felt like I had created something wonderful that I use all the time. I love my wok!
Great little store specializing in woks (go figure), but they have a lot of other home cooking gadgetry. We got one of their cheapest woks about 3 years ago and have been very pleased with our purchase. Heats up quickly and evenly.Check out their videos on YouTube for more detail about how to season woks.
For over 40 years The Wok Shop has been a go-to institution to get hard to find Chinese cooking implements and eclectic kitchen gadgets. While Chuck Williams was establishing his Euro centric culinary curiosities, Tane Chan was founding her own Asian oriented cuisine exotica.Starting with the wok, the classic Chinese cooking implement, she quickly expanded her inventory to include all the complementary accessories needed for stir fry cooking. Not only spatulas but even charcoal fired clay stoves and elegant cook at your table hot pots. Now chock full of every cooking gadget imaginable this shop remains a Chinatown destination.
Got the hand hammered wok with a steel handle. after a few times of cooking you dont really see the dimpling. The wok is very good and cooks well. The handle doesnt get very hot even after cooking for an extended period of time.- 45 minutes or so. Even then it is just warm to the touch. I use the wok a lot and it is sturdy and utilitarian. the price is right and the quality is very good.
The lady who helped us was super nice. She helped us get a wok and the accessories needed. She threw in a pair of cooking chop sticks as well
Update: our first review was left about a year ago. We have been so thrilled with our first wok that we purchased a second, smaller one from The Wok Shop. It was ordered on June 29th, and we received it on July 1. The smaller carbon steel wok is perfect for my husband and myself when the kids are gone.We couldnt be more satisfied with the quick service and superior products we have received from The Wok Shop. We live in Oklahoma, and even though thr distance is great, The Wok Shop will be our go to for anything wok related. Thank you AGAIN for the great service and products. You cant go wrong with this store. ❤(Original Review)We purchased a wok and accessories from The Wok Shop in early January, and we LOVE it all. We received the order very quickly and it included instructions on how to season the wok so we could get started cooking. So far we have made cashew chicken, shrimp low mein, eggrolls, chicken chow mein and crispy sticky orange chicken. Their products and service are great! Thank you, Wok Shop!
Very helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly staff! And great prices on quality kitchen items.
This a great place to buy a lot Chinese cookware like woks, cleavers, knives & other smallware. I was dying to go here & buy their mooncake, and almond cake moulds. The ladies are very helpful, knowledgeable & very nice. This is excellent customer service at its finest.
Fun place to shop for interesting asian kitchen tools and misc other items. Their website is very useful as well. Prices are reasonable, lots of value here.
The food here is pretty good, but most places in Chinatown are. They will do family style meals. The serving sizes are very generous. I would recommend you go with the family style meal and bring lots of friends.
What an awesome cooking store! So many neat and interesting things! You wont leave empty-handed! Friendly and helpful staff.
Wonderful shop, super friendly staff, unique kitchen items!
We had great fun with Randy today, while shopping for a proper wok and accessories. He gave us the best tips to season the new wok as well as other great advise on knives/cleavers and steamers. We cant wait to cook or should I say to wok. Thank you, Randy.
Love this place! Staff are always so nice, helpful and knowledgeable. Always free gifts when I spend a little money ;)
Excellent support selecting the perfect wok for how you cook or plan to cook.
Im very happy with my purchase of a traditional cast iron wok. This place is the wok headquarters for the west coast. They have a friendly knowledgeable staff that will help you with great wok cooking. Highly recommended.
Great shop for most of your oriental food needs. I ordered a carbon steel wok from their website 2 days ago and got it in today. Very fast service and processing. I placed the order and received a shipment confirmation within the hour. Once It was at my door, I opened the box to find everything I ordered and a few extra stuff they threw in for being a customer. My wok came with detailed instructions on how to get it prepped for use. I highly recomend this shop for your cooking needs.
I read the other reviews after I posted mine. Im glad I decided not to purchase from this store, regardless how good their products are. In nowadays, no service no business. The service lady said: Im American and you are Chinese. If shes proud of being an American, why bother to work for a Chinese store. Im surprised that someone who claims working in customer service for over 45 years does not even know how to serve customers by answering a very common question. What is your product warranty? Is this a common question for any products on sale? Is warranty only for expensive product?
There were lots of wok and house essentials. However, I was unable to find what I needed. Overall, all the staff were friendly and their marketing speeches are worth listening too! :)
Great store for buying any in home cutlery or cookery. They are incredibly knowledgable about not only woks, but everything cooking related. Got a set of kiwi knives here there have lasted for a long time and only cost ~$10 a piece.
I ordered two knives on December 29 and received them January 2nd! Keep in mind there was no mail service on Sunday, Dec 30th or January 1st. This was the quickest delivery ever without paying for overnight shipping. I love my Kiwi knives and the Work Shop is just as sharp!
If youre looking for an authentic wok that wont break the bank, then this is it! Great selection of both new and pre-seasoned woks... Plus lots of other kitchen gadgets.
