Wow, my eyes were bugging out at the selection of cakes and desserts. But I was hankering for ice cream so got a scoop of milk chocolate and peanut butter cookie.Took a bite of each, my friend took a bite of the peanut butter cookie, and in the trash it went. I felt bad but it just wasn’t what I like. Some of it tasted artificial and/or burnt.Cone was too sugary and soft and crumbled easily.Staff was great. Nice folks.

Their scoops of ice cream are 1) full of ice, and 2) not generous in size as advertised (its actually ridiculous that a second scoop of ice cream barely clears the top of a sugar cone).Correction: the coffee ice cream was not full of ice, as the vanilla, creme fraiche, chocolate, and brown sugar are.The staff is GREAT. Friendly, courteous, helpful, incredibly patient with children. The cookies and cakes and pies are consistently fresh and the exposes sides of cut cakes remain moist and not dried.

If I could give this place 6 stars I would. What separates this place from the rest beyond their amazing home made ice creams, baked goods and hot/cold drinks is the people. The people that work there are always beyond friendly, super considerate, and pay special attention to minute details to make sure you are enjoying top quality desserts served with passion.

We had some tasty ice cream at the fountain! Several fun flavors to choose from, in addition to traditional. And very pleasant service. I have other treats besides ice cream. They also have non milk ice cream options for those who are intolerant. The entrance is pretty narrow if you are in a wheelchair.

Ice cream *and* espresso. Plenty of seating at funky vintage tables with built in seats. Great flavors (I had salted caramel turtle pecan with dark chocolate sorbet), and friendly staff. The sundays and shakes might be old school, but its as good as most contemporary parlors.

The Castro Fountain is conveniently located on Castro Street but unfortunately does not have a wide selection of plant-based/vegan options. In this day and age one would expect an ice cream parlor — especially one in San Francisco — to carry a plethora of plant-based dessert options so hope this cafe follows suit. It’s family friendly and located within a couple blocks of public transport.

The ice cream tastes great! Creamy & no ice cystals. The flavors were normal, & thats what I want! Awesome creamy thick very chocolate brownies. Amazing strawberry ice cream & cake sandwich! Nice friendly staff. Not too expensive. Clean. A good experience. Just do not raise the prices. I just had a brownie ala mode. Tasty, but bring back my strawberry ice cream cake sandwich! Those were the best!

Highlights: perfect ice cream, bakeshop level cakes and cookies, unique waffle cones, charming location for a date. There are a lot of great ice cream shops in SF, but this one is the real deal. I ate a cookie sandwich and it was more than I could hope for: 2 large, perfectly crispy cookies of your choice, with a generous scoop of ice cream between. You can try to eat it with your hands, but its just as good with a spoon. If that sounds too much, get a scoop in the cone - their waffle cone recipe includes cornmeal, lifting the flavors and adding unexpected texture. This place often has a line, but if you can snag a table its with it to sit in an old fashioned soda fountain environment.

Yum yum yum. We wanted a later after dinner snack to satisfy the sweet tooth. We shared a slice of devils good cake with fudge and a scoop of macadamia nut ice cream. The cake was just right. Fluffy, filling but not overly rich. Im sure the brownies would have been great but just too heavy that late at night. But hit the spot perfectly.

I usually stop in here to get the dark chocolate sorbet, which is really rich and creamy, and hard to distinguish from ice cream. I often get a pint of it to take home, and it lasts only a couple of days. If I order it for here, I get a waffle cone. Occasionally I get a slice of pie, which are also good. Im glad this place is in the Castro. I just wish they would find a way to decorate that didnt make it feel so cavernous and plain inside.

Ordered sodas, which was a huge mistake. We got the ginger, which tasted like it was straight syrup, and the cola, which tasted like a flat coke. Im honestly not sure the people there even know how to make the sodas. They seemed surprised and confused when we ordered them. The ice cream may be fine, but like others have mentioned, youd probably be better served to get Bi-Rite or Mitchells. The soda was so bad they should not be allowed to call themselves a soda fountain.

Maybe Im just getting older, but I love how The Castro has more places, like The Castro Fountain, for friends to gather and converse that are not bars. Dont get me wrong, I like a beer ... maybe more than Brent hic! Kavanaugh, ... but Ice Cream is my favorite of all temptations! The Castro Fountain, with their 50s flair, has so many rich and wonderful flavors and concoctions. They also have so many wonderful Cakes! We loved the Rainbow Cake, which our friends served as their wedding cake! Yum!The Castro Fountain takes me back to my boyhood. My go-to favorite here is the Root Beer Float, classic with vanilla ice cream. They also have luscious Bread Pudding which is, for me, so reminiscent of holiday desserts.Order Cakes in advance, made to order.BTW: Theyre CLOSED on Tuesday

This is seemingly a cute little spot in the heart of the Castro St. with a BIG secret ingredient. Looks innocent on the outside, pretty cool vibe on the inside, the uniform the employees wear have that seventy feel to it. Few tables, a rather large variety of different cakes and sweets. So far, nothing special.BUT. And this is a big one - The Castro Fountain have a secret weapon. I dont know what they use to make their gooey butter cakes, but it should be illegal. This thing is the definition of the word finger licking good. No, good is not close enough - Fu**ing amazing. The sweet, hot butter gooeyness just melt in your mouth, and there is no way you wont make that sound of -oh-my-good-this-fricking-amazing-please-give-me-more-where-have-you-been-all-my-life. Consider yourself warned.

The food product is spot on, even if for some of the body obsessed men of Castro its a tough sell... The lack of tables is a huge mistake and why you might be so empty when I walk by every day. Please lots of little round tables, you have the space! stand up bar tables, or ones like say up at Petes coffee on market short or tall round ones, they dont all require chairs. No one wants those tasty treats and then forced to leave due to two oddly shaped, sized and placed tables only and extremely very little seating! Please fix that, we want you to survive!!! and succeed!
