Large store compared to others. They make delicious high quality ice cream. I havent been disappointed by any flavor yet. Regular or seasonal, no matter how obscure the flavor. Service was wonderful!
This place lives up to the hype!We had split scoop of Honey Lavender and Sea Salt Caramel... Man it was ssoo good!!Perfectly sweet, not overly sugary. Specially lavender flavor was coming through strongly and it was very refreshing.Even though there was a line, it didnt take more than 10 mins for us to get icecream.
Best ice cream I’ve ever had in my life. If you are the kind of ice cream fan who prefers real dairy and quality ingredients, this is the place you should visit. After sampling all flavors(the store manager was soo generous!) I finally decided to go with salted caramel&maple bacon, both are mind-blowing. You knew it’s high quality ice cream with its rich taste and texture, mmm, writing this makes me drool.
This place serves great ice cream and closes later than most other stores in the area. The staff were very polite. Their ice cream portions are very generous, so if you’re there for a quick bite, go for the “kids” size. Don’t forget to try their sea salt caramel ice cream, it’s absolutely delicious!
They are open for pint order pick up, during the covid pandemic. You can also order online for delivery, which i have done last month. This is our favorite ice cream shop, by far! Hands down! They have the best tasting flavors, and they have vegan options, and limited edition specials as well! Staff is always very helpful and pleasant. We have been to several locations, including WA and OR.
Very unique flavors on the menu. High quality ice cream. Tried the pear and blue cheese one; loved the pear not so much the salty blue cheese.Went again, this time tried a double scoop. Huge quantity and so very affordable. Loved the coffee and bourbon flavor, chocolate gooey brownie was also good.
Great ice cream. Can’t go by without stopping.
The aroma of house-made waffle cones wafts up the street as you approach the store. Staff are friendly and very patient! The honey lavender flavour was absolutely delicious. Cannot wait to try the other flavours on offer!
Best ice cream Ive ever had my entire life!! Awesome employees
The flavours are amazing! One of the best ice creams in SF! Theres always a queue, but it moves fast.
One of the two branches of Salt and Straw ice cream place in SF (with more branches in LA too) with consistently amazing, rich taste with unique flavours! There’s always a queue for it but worth the wait plus the line goes fast and never enough time to decide which flavours to get :) Some of my favorites: Honey Lavender, Sea Salt Caramel, Dandelion Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies n’ Cream, Tzcho Mint Chocolate. Just try it, truly one of the best ice cream I’ve had.
Oh my god, what amazing ice cream. They have the classics and they have some unique flavors that Id highly recommend! Service was quick and helpful!
This place is a blast. You must try the brownie ice cream!!
The handmade ice cream was yummy! 😋 They have some interesting flavors that I wanted to try and was having a hard time deciding which one. (They don’t offer sample tasting at this time.) I decided to try the pear and bleu cheese (which I like on salads), and it was good. There were good amount of pears on the ice cream, but very little bleu cheese. Eating the cone was like eating a tough and chewy steak though.
I love the vibe and quality ingredients. But, these flavors are not for a typical ice cream lover. The flavors are very unique and interesting. But this is not where I would recommend the average person craving ice cream to go. So unless you specifically want to wait in slow, long line for flavors like Honey Lavender, Pear & Blue Cheese or Arbequina Olive Oil.... you may want to skip this place. But if you are a foodie, looking for an ice cream adventure... get in line.
I am so happy I do not live anywhere near Salt and Straw simply because the place is irresistible and I would be at least 300lbs heavier.I have been to the store in Portland, OR and it is just as good. It is worth visiting.Be adventurous and try the honey lavender ice cream - it is a taste sensation. They also do half scoops so you can try multiple flavors without overindulging.
Such good homemade ice cream! I got the salted, malted chocolate chip cookie dough and it was amazing. Definitely get 2 scoops if you go here or you will regret not getting second scoop as I did. Customer service was amazing
Best icecream Ive had in a long time. And they have great customer service.
Rich and creamy ice cream with super inventive flavors. Nice space with a small seating area by the windows. They have an extensive regular menu but dont forget to check out their changing monthly flavors. They also sell pints of their ice cream to go in their refrigerated case. Staff was SUPER friendly and they approach you individually to greet you and walk you through any of the flavors youd like to try. They are really patient and I felt very well taken care of. That kind of customer service just seems pretty rare these days. I highly recommend this delicious ice cream shop and cant wait to come back to try more flavors!
If you’re in the Pac Heights, this is the ice cream to go get, especially right now. With the fall of Smitten and no other ice cream places that even come close in the neighborhood, Salt & Straw is the clear winner. Their flavors range from being pretty average to absolutely insane (some so much so that I haven’t had the courage to try them, i.e. the pear and blue cheese). In my experience, they’re all good.We got the sea salt with caramel ribbons, brown ale and bacon, olive oil, strawberry tres leches, and the cold brew coffee cashew praline, obviously all in waffle cones. I think the clear winner was the strawberry tres leches, but that’s just me and everyone else. The savory flavors were really good but definitely on the savory side of things.Everything here is good, so my best advice is to ignore all of this and just do whatever you’re feeling.
Believe the hype! I got a waffle cone with a scoop of chocolate gooey brownie scoop and a scoop of salted & malted chocolate chip cookie dough. Hits the spot after a long day of sight seeing!
Super friendly, attentive, and joyful staff serve up extremely creative flavors (mango passionfruit lychee is one combination; gooey brownie is another). Six dollars for heaping scoop. Possible to split that single scoop in half for 2 flavors
No cash transactions, no social distancing.Ice cream tastes great.
Interesting flavors. They were different for sure, but I wouldnt say I would rank it among the best Ive tasted; theyre ok.
They have Good ice cream there.
I love ice cream. I seek it out in every city I travel to. Salt & Straw makes my top 3 list, and is definitely my favorite in San Fran.I ordered Draculas Blood Pudding, an October seasonal flavor made with pigs blood. Yeah, pigs blood. It was decadent. The flavors here are truly unique and in a good way. My other scoop was Peach Vinegar Cobbler with Toasted Nutmeg - a bit too sweet, but it was balanced out by being insanely flavorful and loaded with gooey chunks of cobbler. So. Good. The folks behind the counter were some of the most friendly that I encountered in San Fran. They were enthusiastic and excited to give me tasters and elaborate descriptions of all their favorite flavors. The choice was hard because every flavor was incredible!
They have cheese and peppers in some of their ice cream flavors. There is usually a line out the door. Only this night there was a drizzle.
One of, if not the, best ice cream places Ive ever been to. The health and safety of their employees and customers seems to be a top priority for them, and their waffle cones are, without a doubt, the best cones Ive ever had. The ice cream flavors, while a little limited compared to other ice cream places, are some of the best tasting Ive ever had. I probably sound like a broken record, but this is seriously one of my favorite places to go when Im in the city.My only complaint, and its a very minor complaint, is that theres often ice (not ice cream - literal ice) mixed in with the ice cream. I get why its like that - they clean off the scoopers and the water thats still on the scooper cools to form little bits of ice that get stuck in the ice cream, but it still sometimes catches me off guard. By no means a deal breaker. Ill continue to come here, or any other location they have, every time I come to the city.
Cute environment, friendly stuff, interesting vegetarian dishes.
The October flavors are too good
Wow! Great ice cream. The pear and blue cheese ice cream may have been the best flavor I have ever tasted.
Cold brew ice cream with praline is my fav flavor. On a hot day, ice cream is a great go to as a treat! Different from the ho hum boba tea drink or iced coffee. In fact this is the only way I consume coffee! Salt & Straw is a brand of ice cream I’ve eaten in Portland, Oregon. Their wacky combinations in PDX sometimes are really delicious. Located at the heart of Pacific Heights on Sacramento & Fillmore, it’s super easy to reach the shop. Quick in and quick out during the weekday. Busy on hot evenings & weekend afternoons! Enjoy a tasty cup of S&S ice cream while strolling Fillmore Street. Great window-shopping & people-watching for sure!
I dont usually eat ice-cream, but I have to say that the ice-cream here was delicious and not overly sweet. Some other places that weve been to, they only gave us a scoop or 2 on top, depend on however much we ordered. At Salt & Straw, they would fill up an entire cone from the bottom to the top then give you the number of scoop that you order. Would recommend!
The flavors are out of this world. Honestly, never had tasted Ice cream this way before.
Your basic tasty new ice cream parlor of the week. Good flavors, high prices.I wish just once an ice cream chain would focus on serving organic ingredients only—and have just as many amazing vegan flavors as not.
Ummm, yeah... Not really sure any combination of words that I can string together can do Salt & Straw justice. Literally the best ice cream that I have ever had... Well worth the long lines. The only trouble with coming here is choosing which flavor(s) to go with. Try out the samples to make sure youre going with the right ones. Incredibly friendly staff. Cant wait to come back and venture away from Strawberry Tres Leches.
I havent been able to enjoy ice cream in many MANY years since switching to a vegan diet. The first thing that will grab you is the smell from inside this place. OMG its irresistible!! What I love is that they always have a few vegan options available! Once I had a cherry coconut, and today I had a raspberry coconut with strawberry bbq sauce. I know right!! But it taste totally good. You can sample any flavor before you buy. Trust me, you wont be disappointed! :)
Ice cream flavors are unique without going too out there on exotic fruit flavors. They take pride in using sea salt but end up having sweeter ice cream to balance the salt.Bad part is that lines are long. Can be quite a wait. Stop by when the line isnt too long. Otherwise its not worth the wait if its not your first time going.
I had two scoops: olive oil and blue cheese + pear. The olive oil was FANTASTIC. One word of caution about the blue cheese + pear: as the ice cream melts, the blue cheese chunks become dislodged and congregate at the bottom. Thus, your bites at the end of your ice cream will taste like salad.
Love tbt specialty flavors that they come up with but in the spring they have one called Pots of Gold that is a must try. They’re the little marshmallows in your Lucky Charms cereal but not nearly as sweet as you’d remember that cereal to be. A huge fan of their matcha combos and the strawberry tres leches 🤤 currently very covid19-friendly. They have a queue to enter and it’s one or two customers at a time. I grab pints usually so I am go in to grab while people get scoops and pay quickly.
Best Ice Cream in America and maybe in the world. No lie or comparison. This is the real deal. Their Olive Oil Ice Cream was sublime and their Lavender fragrant. Anything with chocolate and caramel made you doubt if you ever had those before. And Pear and Blue Cheese is A MUST!
Having been to Salt & Straw in Portland, I was ecstatic to see one in San Francisco! Flavors are incredible. Not much of a wait Sunday around 8pm when we went, but be prepared to wait (and they’re worth it!). They also don’t have a public restroom. Servers were helpful and let me try a couple of flavors before deciding. The holiday seasonal flavors were to die for- especially the Apple Brandy Pecan Pie.
New flavours almost every month. Subjectively, they add less sugar than others, so I am their devoted customer. One would usually see long queues even at night. But do not hesitate to try their product, the customers are served fast. Of all the standard and extravagant flavours that I have tried, only huckleberry with iron corn bread was something I would avoid. Excellent ice desert.
The best ice cream in Portland finally makes it to San Francisco ... you can tell from the line that stretches around the block. It was about a 30/45 minute wait on a sunny Sunday afternoon. All the familiar staple flavors are here like sea salt and caramel ribbons, but they also do SF specials like cinnamon ancho and cajeta.Tastings are all part of the Salt and Straw experience so dont be shy to get more than one (or two, or three). The texture and flavor of the ice cream is the best you can get in the city, in my opinion!
Unique flavors, and truly some of the best ice cream in the city. The servers are kind and patient, actually encouraging me to ask for more samples. The ice cream is creamy and thick, waffle cone is crispy and flavorful. I ordered the sea salt, urban coffee, and wild berry sorbet flavor in a waffle cone. No regrets about waiting in the long line.
Line was kind of long but it was totaly worth it. They might be on the expensive side but the scoops are HUGE and the half and half option is great if you dont want to eat two huge scoops. Also the spoons they give to try the flavours are pretty generous. I got the black olive and goat cheese and it was amazing such a weird combo for an ice cream but so good.
Wow! Stopped on a whim on our way out of town..so great! Flavors were amazing (Gooey Brownie & Pear/Bleu Cheese) and there were other really imaginative ones we will be back for. Very good service as well 😊
I love vanilla and chocolate ice cream
Yay! I was super excited when I heard there was a Salt and Straw opening in SF as I tried the one in Portland and loved all the unique flavors. Of course, the line here was just as long, but we wait patiently late at night for our ice cream. I got the Roxie, which is like kettle corn popcorn flavor with popcorn that is actually from the Roxie Theater. I also got the chocolate gooey brownie and its pretty much as delicious as it sounds.Overall, it was long lines but good quality ice cream. Expect to pay good quality money for your scoops too though.
Now that they are open, this ice cream is the same quality and texture as the Portland stores. If you went to the pop-up the week before opening, please try again. I was super disappointed when I sampled the pop-up flavors, but all my fears of this store not being the same as the original disappeared today!Sample as many flavors as you want (we ended up trying 3 each). There are creative combinations that you just need to try before you know what you like. My husbands favorite was green apple mayo sherbert - the mayo gave it a creamy texture you dont normally get in sherbert. I liked the shrub flavor but wanted something richer, so I went for the sight glass coffee and dandelion chocolate. It had more salt in it to cut through the sweet. The single scoops are generous. I remember it being easier to share a flight between the two of us than to finish the two single scoops we had today - but that might have been because we ate ice cream for breakfast? :)
The lavender honey ice cream was amazing
Interesting ice cream flavors: double chocolate brownie and peach vinegar cobbler, and goat cheese habanero and olive oil lemon custard. Extremely good but pretty pricey for ice cream (5 for single scoop, 7 for double). My only reason for 4 stars is the fact that there is always a huge line. So far I have been lucky with a 10 minute wait but I only stop by when I see the line short enough. Otherwise it goes around the block corner and it can be up to a 30-45 minute wait.
Friendly staff, ice cream choices were interesting, you have to visit. The chocolate was the bomb and I was surprised by the prices, not bad at all. Will return when my sweet tooth acts up.
Great as expected! I had the sea salted caramel in a cone. The ice cream is very well served. The staff is nice and organized.
This place is hands down just as good if not better than bi-rite Ice cream! The cone is made with better quality ingredients and it doesnt leak the melted cream when eating it. The place has a mom and pop feel to it and I hope this place stays open for alot longer after the pandemic is over.
Delicious ice cream, but expensive & extremely small portions. Take a look at all the photos of the single scoop. While youre in line, they will come up to you and share with you some samples. Go nuts! Try em all!The vegan, dairy-free options were both delectable:- Orange sorbet with edible flowers: light and refreshing- Roasted strawberry coconut: creamy & sweet, but dont really taste the roast. This tastes EXACTLY like the coconut milk strawberry ice cream from Trader Joes (you can buy two pints with the price of a scoop)
Love everything about this place! From the moment you walk in, the smell of the frehsly made waffle cones immediately gets you drooling. The gelato flavours here are out of this world. I had a double scoop of the honey lavender and caramelized grapefruit eggnog - it was fantastic!Would totally come back again! Love love love it!!Check out @instantonium on Instagram for more great eats
This is my must visit place whenever I go to Dominics Church. Salt & Straw is the best thing happened in the recent years and this is the holy place for Ice cream lovers especially those who are looking for homemade ice creams. When I came here for the first time and I was awe struck by the crowd and Its always filled with good amount of crowd who eager to taste homemade ice creams. Ive been a regular customer here, the staffs also one more reason why this place is so special. Theyre very welcoming and helpful as always. I would certainly recommend Salt and Straw for ice cream lovers like me.
Nice place to test ice cream
