This place has really good prices on food and the staff are very nice people. However the lines are always long. They need more cashiers or a better management team. There are 11 lanes total with 2 express lanes. They will literally have 4 lanes open with the lines down the aisle… if they would have all lanes open and running that would make this place 5 stars.
Cheap prices the only thing is food does not stay fresh as long as others. You can get a lot of food here for a cheap price. Has lots of options to pick from for great prices.
Good things about Food Co...they are open late (6am-12am everyday), (6am-7am is seniors60+ &first responders..there is a sign(:), & So far...it is the only place around San Francisco where we have found one of the BEST cereals EVER (Smores!!!) (..if anyone knows somewhere else this cereal can be found..please let us know(: !) ..another good thing about Food Co..there are bathrooms! The only not good thing are the lines.. everytime I have been there.all the registers have lines...all the time.. sometimes there is a line to get into the store.. But we will wait in line for our yummy cereal!! (That is only $5 a bag...and lately it has been 2 for 5$!!!)
There are not enough cashiers and they are extremely slow.
Less crowded during last visit. Store has sanitary wipes to clean shopping cart. Noticable litter lies outside of building and parking lot.
The prices honestly cant be beat for SF. My weekly food bill is consistently lower purchasing from here versus any other store. The produce and section is also excellent, given the price. My only gripe is that if youre not shopping before 3PM, you really shouldnt bother at all as the lines for the cashiers easily surpass 30 minutes of wait time in the evening.
While picking out all the ingredients for our Christmas party, I had the greatest interaction with a stocking boy by the milk section. He was a quick witted lad who had just come back from a tour of duty to visit his family and was working for extra money to provide them a good Christmas. He helped me find the baking power and cinnamon. After, I handed the poor sap a generous finders fee.
Its probably the cheapest grocery store in San Francisco, so they are always buisy. The cashiers are always really nice. The only reason I didnt give it a better rating is because the lines are always really too long. They wont open a new register, even id the lines go all the way to the back of the store. They have a coinstar here. Sugar is $2.00. The customers can be a little offensive. For example drunk, high, rude, trying to cut in line like 2 year olds. Almost everytime I go there, I witness someone being busted for shoplifting. Im glad they catch them instead of just giving up and closing down like walgreens. Its still worth going here, because of the prices and the cashiers are always nice.
Pretty good selection on various items. Lots of Latin sodas. Some good prices, some not good. Long lines. Rarely do they enforce 15 items or less in the express line- have seen people with over 35 items several times. The long lines and slowness of the workers is a deterrent for me. These are some of the slowest moving lines Ive ever seen.
Parking lot was full, carts left outside however upon entering suprised to see plenty of fully functioning shoppibg carts available as well as 2 ride on carts for elderly/disabled/sick etc to make shopping easier. Fair prices, below what you would pay else where for same brand items. Fresh selection of fruits n vegetables stocked, as well as $1 bag. Good prices on meats, small selection of hot food. Random household items at a reasonable price for the quality. Pleased with baby section with bath and diapers selection Bathroom was suprisingly clean, fully stocked and smelled fresh for a Thurday afternoon about 2:30pm. Thankfully plenty of cashiers available so no wait in long lines for us
Very good pricesVery slow tills maybe 30 minutes wait
Every day they only have 2 cashiers openWaiting line are over 40 minutes. They have a lot business and they don’t care about people waiting.
I’d rather shop at Trader Joe’s because to me the prices are about the same if not better... The signs in the store aren’t very helpful and also the security guard walked past me even with my mask on a I smelled a pungent smell of mildew. Definitely will continue to shop at Trader Joe’s and Safeway.
Overall, I like this store. A really wide selection of everything at good prices, but produce quality can be hit or miss, and you can always expect the lines to be looooong. The longest grocery lines Ive ever been in are here. If they could hire a few more cashiers to make checkout less than 30-45mins, I would come here all the time.
They need more staff. It was super busy on Friday night & they didnt have enough cashiers & the lines were long!
Staff have outstanding customer service and are attentive to my needs. They offer the highest goods at a low cost.
The prices on all their items are great, but their long lines make it hard to give them 5 stars. It seems like they are great at working with less than a full staff, which seems to be by design. Still, those Rockstars for $1 are hard to beat...
Great prices. Usually much cleaner than Safeway. Kept well stocked with great variety of merchandise. Their in house made goods are excellent. If you havent been, at least look around at the selection & check prices, you will see the difference in price with like items at other grocery stores.Have loved them for years!!
Get more employees at the registers.. long wait and short staff.. lines are ridiculous.. dirty place too so unorganized but I have to shop here for work lol
SERIOUSLY WHY THEY ONLY HAVE ONE DOOR OPENITS THE ENTRANCE ONE AND TO GET OUT YOU HAVE TO GO AROUND CAUSE THEY BLOCK THE EXITS ALSO THEY BLOCKED THE REGISTER SO YOU ARE TRAPREALLY ARE THAT STUPID. IN AN EMERGENCY PEOPLE ARE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO EXIT THE STOREPLEASE CALL THE SF FIRE DEPARTMENT TO COMPLAINT ABOUT IT OR THE CITYI DID ALREADY CAUSE ITS DANGEROUS
Cheap, but the checkout lines are brutal and make you question how much your time is worth
100 customers 1 cashier in the night if I could give it less I would.
You can find a lot of stuff here, but lines are really long almost all the time
Im really thankful to have this grocery, because there was everything I needed. Many thanks!
Foods co. offers discounted brand name items in bulk. Good for families or anyone in a budget. Unfortunately, as to be expected, it’s hard to find anything that isn’t processed/filled with sugar/corn syrup. This is definitely not somewhere I’d recommend for those looking for organic foods, or anyone that is particularly health conscious. Although they have a decently sized produce section, you get what you’re paying for. The fruits and vegetables are always about a day or 2 away from going bad, so IMO, it’s not worth it. But, compared to other stores in the city, for dry or frozen goods, the prices cannot be beat. Significant reduction in price usually. Problem is, you’re buying in bulk so, for someone like me who is only buying for 2, I end up spending a good amount everytime I go, just because there’s no alternative in size. I’ve significantly modified my grocery list for here, only going for specific items and then running for the hills so I don’t waste money on bulk items I don’t actually need.Reminder: you do your own bagging and they charge $0.50 cents a bag😳 so bring your own and be prepared to move fast. Last time I was there, the checker started pressing the conveyer belt and smashed my bread/soft items because I couldn’t pack as fast as she was happy with. Super annoying.Added bonus - they have self service kiosks for coinstar, lotto tickets, key making and something else I can’t think of. I’d give it a 3.5 if I could but, 3 it is.
You can complain, foodsco you do save but my issue with them its at night. Business people dont realize that a lot of ppl shop at night. So why only have 2 cashiers for the whole store. The lines be so long its reaching the back of the store. And this store is bigger than the one on Williams. People are looking for work, hire more cashiers because I know youre not losing money. Sometimes ppl will avoid just because of the lines.
Great deals but you might have to stand in line so check how busy it is. Excellent for many items. Great for families with kids.
1 hour wait outside to enter and 1 hour wait to pay inside, just an average Monday evening. Its a mess. Hire more cashiers please
One star because every time I come to this store it be so much customers and only 2or 3counter open
Closes Early in the Winter. But closes later in the summer.
A great place for low prices
Disgusting. You have to clean your own cart from outside, there’s hardly any staff and the lines are insane. This is a dangerous place to shop, there were two fights in front of us while waiting in line....in the EXPRESS. Go figure, we won’t be back
Security guards particularly the heavy set female at night time has no manners whatsoever. She is so unhappy to answer questions like she was just hired to sit around. But people inside are nice and very helpful.
Its nice for a fast and quick shopping until the long lines and one or three open. Then express line long one cashier closes her line when line is long. But other then that its a good store.
Its always fun
I love Foodsco
While the parent company Kroger is an efficient and customer-focused retailer, this grocery chain and location is a disaster. Always understaffed and long lines. No wonder there are so many carts lying around.
Very dangerous place to groceries shopping I do not recommend foods Co. Just had my bike stole I am pretty sure it was the security guard who stole my 500 dollars bike. The security guards are gangster and not pleasant at all. I will never step my foot in this pig stai place.
Bigger and friendlier than the one I normally go to
Always going to this store nice place and the prices is very good everything .But the case is the Security agents are people who have no sense of respect for clients. They think that they are all criminals and they are completely rude to people. I think they should remove another security company where the agents have a better professional behavior.
Many household items for 1 stop shop. Good deals. Just wish they open more cashier counters to fasten checkout process.
I really, really wish this place existed in my neighborhood. Being a salsa connoisseur, Ive never seen a larger selection of salsas in a neighborhood grocery store. Ive tried most of them, and theyve all been delicious. They also have great tacos at the restaurant in the back.
Great products and prices! I to this store about once per month. The queues seem to get bigger every time I go there. I just waited 45min to pay at mid afternoon on a Tuesday not even close to payday... You can clearly see people that are “working” in nothing in particular as the queues keep getting bigger. Sort this out or you will lose all your costumers. On the bright side, they don’t force you to leave your backpack in the lockers anymore so that is positive.
I work around the corner from Foods Company so I shop there during lunch or after work.I have never had any significant interactions with the staff there but my most recent visit has earned them my absolute loyalty. I had a hectic day at work and just dealt with crazy people (I mean legitimately insane folks, that are for some reason allowed to run around freely). Being all grumpy and in a rush to get home, I left my wallet at the register, and it was loaded!!!! I am talking not only IDs, membership cards and rewards cards, I also have hundreds of dollars in my wallet, because I dont use credit cards.I did not realize my error until I was home so I called to ask if someone had found it. I was sure it would have been lost for ever. But what do you know the cashier, Jeanette (did I spell that right?) at register 9 was so honest to keep it safe and did not even open it. I offered to give her a reward but she refused to take it. It came across not only as genuinely polite but even as simple common courtesy. She totally made my day. Thanks! You have a great team member there who needs to be recognized.
2230 minute long lines regardless of how early or late you arrive and abysmal food quality with prices that dont compensate for any of this.
They are closing check out counters to isle+ long lines with out coverage. Ive been in this line for 34 mins. They simply do not have staff available to mee the needs of their their customers. The also are not limiting the number of customers in this store.
Its a decent grocery store, but it feels very old style corporate. Theres only one cashier that I know for years. Mostly its always new faces. I dont feel attached to the store, yet its often my repeat shopping trip. The prices are usually less than the other big grocery store, and the lines are about the same, or a little shorter.
You get the most bang for your buck at Foodsco without having to buy huge quantities unless you want to. Fresh produce, baked goods, prepared foods, family size options and everything else you would normally pay at least on average 30 percent more for at Safeway and the like. Has the warehouse feel to it not all trendy and flashy but its well maintained and clean.
Good prices on groceries. Busiest hours are after 7 p.m on week days and after 12 noon on weekends, especially Sundays. Store needs a few more employees, but is all around worth the trip.
Great prices and almost zero waiting to get in.
I shop here for the late hours, and the good bargains, but honestly this place is a total mess. Half consumed products everywhere, messes everywhere, loud rude customers everywhere, large lines always. kids running around, screaming, throwing things, eating food thats not paid for, harassing other customers such as myself on multiple separate occasions. Once a kid kept following me and throwing things in my cart, and taking things out of my cart that I put in and run around with it and then smash it on the ground, his parents were no where to be found. The employees are often rude, and dont care about all the stuff going on that they should care about it. They cashier very slowly, and always with an attitude. I hate coming here for so many reasons, its worth it to just spend a little more money and have a nicer shopping experience. It sucks that they just wont improve their store. I also hate how unsafe in and in front of the store. There is always people everywhere that look like theyre going to try to rob me. They also harass customers who are not shoplifting, like myself and and my family, but yet I see people steal from there all the time and not get caught.
Great shop. Ding for price. Produce is usually fresh, as expected. The place to buy organic meat, but be prepared to empty your pocketbook.
After searching unsuccessfully in 5 SF grocery stores (including Safeway, Whole Foods, Rainbow...) for file powder with which to make gumbo, I came to this store. They had four varieties to choose from, and while I was at it I found a ton of other great food priced reasonably. The store was packed with people, but friendly checkers moved everyone through the lines quickly and efficiently. What a welcome change compared to other Bay area grocery stores
This Foods Co store has a bigger variety of food items but they need to have more cashiers checking out customers. It used to be an almost in and out experience but nowadays the few lanes open can get pretty long. I still shop here though, because the prices are great and the sale items are even better! Of all the places to shop for groceries, Foods Co is my favorite store.
Great place to go for budgeting and quality items. Biggest complaint would be the constant 2-3 lanes only open at the register starting around 7-8pm lasting until close at 1. The lines for check out can span down the dang isles so plan ahead if youre wanting to midnight grocery shop your frozen items might thaw out. As youll see many fed up patrons who have abandoned the line and left the store leaving items behind as they go. If this would change I believe they can be a better and smoother running engine within the store.
This is a very no-frills discount grocery with some of the best prices in town and some ingredients you can;t find easily elsewhere for Latin American food and Southern/Soul food. The produce is priced great and usually quite good quality and freshness
I really enjoy this FoodsCo. I need 9% of the time they have what I need and its no problem to find. The staff is really friendly too. About the only thing I would suggest is especially during rush hours or busy hours just having more registers open. Often times people have to stand in really long lines for a long period of time. The other than that the store is awesome.
Very cheap
Great prices compared too the big brand stores. Mostly clean. Not too bad a wait to check out. Kroger products, which Im used to, lived in Texas.
Store has a pretty good selection and prices are good and they are doing a nice job of keeping the aisles clear while theyre doing their renovations and alterations to the store. This store has never had enough staff on the registers no matter what time I go in day or night the lines are extremely long one or two lanes open while many employees are just walking around the store trying to look busy but not really doing anything. Carts are always all over the very dirty parking lot (including needles and condoms)and you have to go find them for yourself. Dont get me wrong these are little things but, it makes it annoying when you have to find a cart then after you shop you will be there for another 30+ minutes for checkout! Ugh! Better customer service would help this store.
Update: It is absolutely appalling that on a Thursday afternoon that you have only two clerks working the registers. There are at least 49 people in line. Tempers are short. People not wearing mask. Yelling! If you do not have the staff, dont open. I stood in line the entire time it took me to write this while holding one arm full of groceries. Nice work!!! Still in line...Besides it being close to my home, FoodsCo is a great place to shop with a hint of Latin flavor being it is in the Mission district. This is a self bag grocery store and you can see that in your final total at checkout (very reasonable). I would arrive early in order to beat the lines of which can be up to a 20 minute wait to checkout.
Great prices, excellent food quality. Because of this, it gets extremely busy during daytime hours on weekend and sometimes not worth the savings.Off peak hours, the checkout lines are small and a perfect store.
All right for discount grocery store. MUCH BETTER than Carroll Street location in terms of service but it is a pack your own groceries type of place, centrally located in downtown San Francisco which doesnt have many such options...
Cheap grocery store ... Da BOMB!!! Lines hella long though.
Great Prices. Hit or Miss when it comes to how long u will be in line at check out. Is the only negative thing I can think of.
Most of the staff are good folks. The food stuffs are adequate if ghetto. Unfortunately the clientele leaves something to be desired. The family groups are no problem even if they occasionally cause line delays. But there are people who come here with serious mental issues. The store needs better security
U will often get to see an interesting trans person or other colorful character. Rife w dope fiends and at times other crazed and possibly aggressives. Floor staff nearly non existent, usually beleaguered. Clean enough except bathrooms even tho they try. Large enough to have room to navigate and for large inventory which they maintain well.
Giant grocery store, awesome selection of ingredients for Hispanic food (e.g. lots of Goya and tortillas to choose from)
I hope all the gentrification happening in the area doesnt ruin this place. There are still many non-tech people that live in the area that need a place that sells affordable food.
Prices are pretty good. Thats the best I can say about it. Their idiotic check your bag program forces you to check back packs you brought to carry your groceries out of the store in, undermining the bag laws that were designed to encourage people to bring their own reusable bags. Obviously this stores owner doesnt care much about environmental protection. They dont even have spaces for all the checked bags and often leave them lying where anyone could take them. Rude security guards love to bark at everyone to check their bags, even if they were about to check them anyway.
You can also get more here for your buck than most any of their grocery chain.
Not enough unlocked carts. Even some inside the store were locked up. Very long lines at all cashiers. They no longer accept Visa. Wow. Maybe the last two were related. Usually good veggies though.
A Dump...Kroger should be embarrassed. Filthy, unsafe, dirty floors, no working carts. Expired food, produce is moldy. Not enough check out lines...very long wait to pay..will NOT return!Hey Kroger, do something! The county health dept. should visit and close the store!
This foodsco is really prone to being inundated with people who shoplift for that reason its always a little messy and the staffs not too friendly. That being said theyre pretty good selection of food at reasonable prices you must have ever leave any large bags and backpacks at the front in lockers at least now they let you lock it and give you the key they do that before and people kept getting stuff stolen. best thing about this place is that it is open late, but they do close at 12:30 or at least lock the doors at 12:30
I love shopping organic especially for produce, if I had a bunch of extra cash lying around it would be amazing to get $4 Saint Benoit yogurts in those cute little jars, and picture-perfect squash and tomatoes from the Ferry Building Farmers Market.Unfortunately, my expensive dining habits require an extra dose of affordable healthy eats on the weekdays to offset it all. Extra emphasis on affordable.Costco, Trader Joes, local Mission grocers, and Safeway (when I am desperate) are my typical go to grocers. For convenience, price, and quantity Safeway is unfortunately one of the most reasonable places to find my typical needs... but I discovered Food Co recently which competes in price with Walmart and Trader Joes yet delivers high quality produce better sometimes than the stuff you get at Asian grocers in the burbs!Besides awesome price and quality, Food Co has:+ A parking lot (and security guard - nice to have in this area).+ Late hours (open until 1am!)+ Red Box+ Spacious, brightly-lit and clean aisles+ Numerous check-out stations and cashiers, line moves fast.I remain a fan of Costco for stuff you can get away buying wholesale (non-perishables and great wine selection), Trader Joes (best snacks that you cant get anywhere else) or local farmers markets for specialty and organic alternatives, and for everything else Food Co is hands down your best bet.Bottom-Line: Unbeatable prices on high quality produce and basic grocery store amenities you cant or dont want to buy at Costco/Trader Joes.
If you are looking for a grocery store on the grounds of variety and low prices only, Foods Co is certainly a five-star choice. The last time I went, I loaded up on fruits, veggies, meats, and home supplies at a fraction of Safeways or Targets costs. I knocked off one star for store cleanliness and staff availability. Also I saw several homeless folks in the parking lot, but the store exists in a semi-sketch area, so its not really the stores fault.
Hello there food fans. If youve never been there before, let me ask you a question? Have you ever gone shopping at Foods Co.? If the answer is no, then its youre chance to get better and cheaper shopping habits. If you HAVE, then you know what an enormous variety of foods and other household goods. YOU are aware, also, of the ridiculously LOW PRICES that they offer all day, every day. If you think Im lying or exaggerating, go there and tell me your story. I would be interested if you had a different experience. I love the place. You might have figured that out already, judging from all of the praises Ive been pumping out about them. Honestly, do you really think I would spend this amount of my time, energy, and thought just to lie to you? Well, I hope not, because I am a straight shooter. Im trying to pass on to you a good idea and service. Here it is, plain and simple: try going there and shop. Id bet real money on it. For real! Sorry. No pics this time. Maybe the next review. Good Luck all.
Although, this company has a wide variety of canned food and packaged goods for the every-day kitchen I wouldnt shop here without packin. There are some sketchy folks that wander around these parts, let alone inside the store. There is a security guard standing right inside the doorway as you enter, and although I understand the need for security when it comes to theft, this guy looks like hes from SF S.W.A.T.The prices are great, Im just sayin make sure to hold your purse ladies... and gentlemen.
Crowded, limited stock. Good prices.
Good prices, but beware your surroundings and like most of SF, keep a close eye on anything important to you, or keep it out of site!! Dont make the mistake of putting your laptop or anything of value in your trunk upon arrival anywhere, opportunists are watching and your trunk is not a SAFE PLACE!!A poorly locked up bike was stolen by a black make senior citizen, who then disappeared into the nearby homeless encampment!! :( HaPpY shopping!!
Great value for your buck
Fast well stocked and prices are cheaper than safeway
Foods Co is to Rainbow as Tijuana is to San Diego, the more affordable place just south. Three 32 oz Kroger Yogurts (now THATs a tongue-twister) for $5, not bad., and inexpensive eggs from incarcerated and possibly carcinogenic chickens. The chickens themselves are quite affordable. OK parts is parts but this week its 78 cents / pound for hindquarters. Ample bike parking, too.
You can’t beat the prices here for packaged items. The produce and meat quality isn’t the best but the prices are satisfactory. Only downsides are that the lines are always slow and Foodsco doesn’t stock all the vegan (specifically vegan dairy) or organic options that some other big grocery stores have in SF.
Not so bad today. Was able to get a handicap cart and even though it was very low, I was still able to get my groceries and get out of there. L
Love this place wish the one in Richmond was as pleasant to go too on the right days you can find Really good deals, large parking lot lines arent that bad here either
I dont get to shop here often but I love the prices and being able to find enough of one something I need. But be ready to wait in line. The cashiers are fast with ALL lanes open.
I love Food Co. Spent $40 bucks today and walked away with one and a half bags of groceries. Not just crap either. Lots of vegetables, rice, breads, cheese, etc. Good wholesome foods. They have name brand stuff and generic brands too. I laugh when I walk over to Rainbow Grocery across the street and see hippies paying twice as much for the same stuff and they ALL look so unhealthy. If theres ever any more obscure thing I cant find here (which is rare) Safeway is just a few blocks away.My only compliant would be the parking lot. DO NOT GO DURING RUSH HOUR!!! You will spend 30 minutes just getting into the parking space. Parking is otherwise fine. If youre nearby just walk. I live a mile away and can easily huff two bags of groceries home. Get a workout.
This foodsco rocks, and the BEST WooHoo sale prices!! I also give Foodsco a definite 5 Woo-Hoos for their pricing!!!
I came as a tourist and decided to get some snacks, as I drove off I noticed someone slashed my tires. DO NOT GO HERE especially at night.
Great low prices on food. But the parking can be rough on good luck trying to find one in a busy day. Shopping carts are everywhere the lot.
Great low prices, especially in the fresh meat department. Sometimes the stocking could be better for the more popular items, but overall this place offers decent value
Its good for certain items. This is my go-to place for: cheap limes. Conveniently right across the street from Rainbow and a few blocks from Costco and Trader Joes. I also discovered they have bottled liquid smoke for really cheap.
Parking is usually full even at mid-day on a weekday even though store seems to be empty. People just parking there from all over the place and it seems like management and security guards dont care. Other than parking issues and ghetto clientele the store offers good selection at good prices.
