Light and fluffy donuts which literally melt in your mouth. These mochi donuts are a variant of the regular donuts we eat, but are so soft and not as sweet which is a huge win in my books.Got the chocolate, cinnamon and soya bean donuts. The bean one was meh but the cinnamon and chocolate were really good. Strongly recommend.Lines were long. This place is located in the closed malls in Japantown.
Love, love, love! Favorite flavors were Berry Berry and Dark Chocolate, but Nutella and Cinnamon Sugar are close runner ups. I thought the texture was a little like a cruller (my favorite). Ordered online and picked up at their pickup stand in the Peace Plaza in under 10 minutes (during the summer of covid). Will definitely go back when I can!
Great mochi donuts. Especially liked the daily special mixed berry. Matcha also very good, chocolate less wonderful but still tasty. Service was quick.
Very good place to stop by and get a snack
Really tasty and light. Lots of flavor! The strawberry was especially good. But got there at the end of the day and had a slight hint of old oil but still good.
Delicious donuts! I would strongly recommend the match milk & black sesame flavors. Unique, colorful & light ❤️
A small, but often crowded little shack. One of the few places you can get mochi-doughnuts! Be sure to go early because lines can sometimes be extensive.Although I kinda feel the flavors are a bit lacking, the taste and texture itself is supreme to most other fried dough deserts. A must for anyone in Japantown!
So unique and tasty. One of the best donuts we’ve ever had. Place is a bit hard to miss and may have a line, but worth it
AMAZING!!!Inside the heart of Japan Town Mall.Long Line due to practicing social distancing, keeping the public safe, thank you. Definitely worth the wait.I had a Mochi doughnut in Seattle at a place called Dochi and they were amazing so I had very high expectations and only bought one doughnut from Mochill, the fruity pebbles, and it was THE BOMB!!!!!!! I’m from out of town and only in SF for a few hours before heading back to Sacramento.I left but I had to come back and buy a 12 pack for my coworkers in SACRAMENTO. I bought the macha oreo, cinnamon, fruity pebbles, macha...They absolutely loved them!DEFINITELY WORTH YOUR TIME & MONEY!!Photo of one of two 6 packs, one fruity pebbles and cool Japanese deco, and the tiny kawaii shop.
These mochi donuts are delicious.. they’re chewy and sweet. Prices range from $2.00-$2.50. After that, it would be 6 for $12 and 12 for $24 I believe. Out of all the flavors they had, I think my favorite would have been the matcha milk.Pictured (top to bottom)• Matcha Milk• Fruity Pebbles• Pumpkin Pie• Chocolate• Kinako ~ soybean powder
Great donuts but the line is very long and half the employees dont even look like theyre doing anything. One girl was running the register, putting together boxes and picking and packing the donuts all by herself while two other employees just watched. Weird.
Fantastic donuts. As light as a a french cruller but better flavor
I prefer them over regular donuts. The chewy texture and consistency, I believe they are Gluten Free as well...dont quote me on that. I could be wrong...not that it matters to me. Fortunately I dont have a Gluten allergy...Gratitude. Mochill Mochi Donuts arent overly sweet either. They arent sugar bombs like some other donuts or desserts. The Mochill Donut stand / storefront is located in Japan Town SF. Mochill actually shares the space with Takoyaki Yama-chan.The donuts are made fresh daily and regularly. Ive seen days when they sold out! Mochil usually has about 6 flavors at a time... although I have seen 7 on a few occasions. Cinnamon Sugar, Chocolate, Kinako and Matcha are the regular flavors available on a daily basis. Two other flavors are randomly added as Todays Special. They have a calendar listing the rotating flavors on their website. .I found some of the rotating flavors to be absolutely amazing! I try and stop by whenever Im in the area...Im a fan!
I visited on 04/16/21. They are located on the second floor of the Japantown mall and can be easy to miss. I found them because of the line. The donuts have more texture and are more chewy than regular donuts. The flavors I picked up were green tea, cinnamon/sugar, mocha, chocolate, peanut butter/jelly, and kinako sugar. All of the flavors were delicious. But PB&J stole the show IMO.If I get the chance, Ill definitely come back.
Donuts were delicious, chewy, and fresh. The prices are not too bad especially is you get a box of different sizes
We got lucky on our first attempt to try these, as the line was only 3 people deep when we arrived (though as soon as we got ours, the line was suddenly insane). These were surprisingly light (not at all oily) and the flavors were spot on. Only regret was not ordering more when we had the chance.
Excellent mochi donut. They were running special for 6 for $12 or 12 for $24. They are both chewy and have a slight crunch to it. Matcha flavor is prob my familys favorite.
The matcha, black sesame, and fruity pebbles are a must try!!!Fyi for anyone who wants to try it, there is usually a really long wait.
Must try! Everyday they have different flavors that you’ll love!
This is my second time getting donuts from here and there was no wait! I have tried all their regular flavors before. If you dont like your donut too sweet, the black sesame is it! It is probably my favorite so far. The matcha oreo tastes way better than the regular matcha milk - more depth in flavor and texture. They were the flavors on rotation for that Saturday so not sure when they will have those flavors again. I want to try their strawberry one next time!
We ordered a cookies and cream doughnut, and a matcha. I did not enjoy the experience, the line took over 45 minutes. If I can choose between a regular cake donut, or mochi donut - I’m definitely going to choose cake. The mochi does add that expected gelatinous texture however the icing has no thickness it melts just in your fingers it’s not good. the actual mochi cake I don’t know what the point of the bulb shaped ring is. However The mochi doughnut is a very unique idea and a lot of people do like it so it still deserves a higher rating
Really fun donuts.. very easy to eat.
Delicious mochi donuts.
This place always has a line and last Monday it was not as long. So we grabbed some mochidonuts to eat outdoors at the plaza and the rest to take back home. These are ADDICTING!!!They are chewy and just delicious. The flavors were spot on, the Matcha being my favorite. So so good. The Staff are awesome and they are very efficient, the line moves along quickly. It would help if customers knew what they wanted ahead. The flavors are posted on their easel menu boards that are visible to all.We will be back!
Doughnuts had a nice texture and the flavors were good.
Currently this is the only spot with mochi doughnuts in San Francisco that I know of, and unfortunately that means long lines. Imagine my surprise when I walked by in Japantown one Saturday and there were only ten or so people in line. I hopped in line to try them, as mochi doughnuts are my favorite type of doughnut. This place offers classic flavors such as chocolate and matcha, along with seasonal specials like dark chocolate and berry. In general, the dough is tasty and perfectly chewy, though a little crunchier and greasier than I prefer. Overall a decent source of mochi doughnuts (if the wait is reasonable).
Wanted to try this place when visiting because I always saw their mochi donuts on instagram. Glad we had time to pick some up before dinner because they were actually pretty good.I didnt know the flavors of the day, so we were just going to go with whatever they had. If I remember correctly, they had 6 different flavors, but we ultimately went with their berry, chocolate almond, and matcha. My favorite was the berry as it a good tartness to it as well as sweetness. The matcha surprisingly didnt have a strong flavor to it at all and the chocolate almond was not sweet at all, so Im assuming it was dark chocolate. Although the flavors they offered werent my favorite, the mochi donut itself was one of the best Ive hadIG: jkfoodaddie
Mochi donuts with various delicious flavor! Too bad not all the flavors are available everyday. However, that gamifies the visits as you try to time your visit to catch the flavor you have not tried, yet! You will bound to find something you like here!
As a Taiwan native who grew up with Mister Donuts I was thrilled/impressed to hear that there was a Mister Donut-inspired donut shop in town!! I guess we’re calling it “mochi donuts”. The employees were insanely nice and the donuts themselves were perfect! Not too sweet, and super chewy. Please come out and support this shop because we need more of it!
I went on Thursday right after work and got there just before 6 and had to wait 25 minutes. There were only about six parties before me and only one party ordered more than 1 dozen. So I deducted a star for the slowness.Everything was still available when it was my turn and I purchased a dozen for my family. The donut itself is chewy and yummy and I like the flavor options. I would love to go back and try the black sesame when they have it available. It’s literally a hole in the wall next to the Takoyaki stand.
Ive had the MoDo Donuts back when they did a pop-up at the Mitsuwa in San Jose, and Ive got to say these come close in quality!I arrived around 7pm on a weekday and there was virtually no line so it was breeze for me to make my selections. I almost walked straight by the stand since its located in a small corner of the mall. But I have to say its definitely worth it! If youre going with friends (or even by yourself honestly) I highly recommend getting a box of 6! Itll let you try various flavors at $2 per donut. My friends and I enjoyed all the flavors we tried, so Ill surely be back sometime!
Tasty & texture really good.
Mochi donuts are really tasty and not too excessively sweet. When I visit SF, I go to Japantown just for these when I have the time. I usually order a dozen because they’re for my coworkers too. The mochi donuts are always a consistent flavor and consistency
I think its a little sad when you try something for the first time and it still remains to be the best youve had even after all this time. Only because nothing can surprise you anymore. But the good trade off is, hey, youve found The One.Ive tried other places for mochi donuts around the Bay Area but Mochill is still my favorite. Dont get me wrong, Modo is good too. But Mochill donuts has the flavors pinned down. You know its matcha at first bite. With others, you have to kind of find the flavor, if that makes sense. And the contrast of crispiness on the outside while its perfectly chewy and soft inside is remarkable!I even remember how I knew about the store. It was my first time in Japantown at SF and was just looking around. Saw a person holding a white box so carefully as he passed by me. After a minute or two, I saw a couple of people holding same white boxes. Until finally I got to this unassuming corner of the mall and a store associate handing the customer the same kind of white box I saw the others holding. This was the world telling me to try it! And so I did.
Mochi donuts!!!!! They were delicious and you can also order Takoyakis here!
Delicious donuts with extremely accurate flavors! I expected a normal donut, where they typically are way too sweet but these had a unique texture and yummy flavor. I drank matcha boba from the shop close to it and it paired so well! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! :D
Warm and mouth watering ... fresh right out of the oven.🤤⛩️🗾
Extremely unique pop up shop in Japantown! I got dragged into this line when I randomly saw people lined up and wanted to see the hype and had time to kill. I also love both mochi and donuts and just had to try it! You’ll probably be waiting in line for 20-30 minutes as I did on Saturday at 3 pm but most of the wait is due to people buying boxes of 12 or 24. I got the taro flavor and absolutely loved it. It’s warm, it’s flakey, but chewy and leaves you wanting more bites! I don’t usually like donuts but loved the light fluffy mochi donuts.
Its like eating a cloud. Its crisp on the outside, but chewy and soft on the inside. Eat it when its warm, its so much better when it is.
My favorite dessert. Chewy, doughy, and flavorful mochi donuts. All the flavors are delicious, especially the matcha and the taro with coconut flakes! The shop sells a delicious takoyaki as well. Everything is made fresh. The shop is located inside the Japantown mall on the left if you enter on Post street.
Rotating menu of flavors but overall tasty items. Reasonably priced with quick service, so the line moves fast.
Love the Black Sesame and Matcha donut
Wowser! Amazing texture, taste, quality! Not too sweet which I prefer, kind of light. One person could easily eat two or three, be careful! :)I took mine home and popped a couple in the freezer for 10-15 minutes or so - I think the cold makes an even better texture sensation! Try it if you dare!
Long line, well worth the wait.
Yumm, Awesome experience, we (myself, wife and two teenage daughters) got a pack of six with six different flavors, chai, cinnamon, strawberry milk, matcha, chocolate and chocolate cherry almond. They have 8 sections to each donut that are great for sharing. The flavors were unique so we could try to decide which were our favorites, which was tough because they all had great flavor. Definitely not your standard donut, perfect for a Japantown experience.
Order through delivery app and pick up, saved me 30 mins in line
A unique experience.
My favorite donuts in SF! Crunchy outside and chewing inside. It’s not too sweet and many Japanese style flavors😋
I need more!!! Crispy chewy deliciousness
Really great donuts, great price and definitely worth the trip!
The mochi donuts are so special, its very chewy. i really like it. The place is hard to find, its inside the shopping mall, and I was looking for it for a long time. i also paid $3 for parking. >_
If you want just Takoyaki theres a separate line just for that. If you want donuts and maybe takoyaki, theres a other line for that as well.Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no eating inside the mall, bring all food outside in the plaza. Be responsible and mindful of others and do not litter. Theres trashcan inside East or West wing mall.
These mochi donuts are amazing and rival those from Modo in Hawaii. These are the best we’ve had in the Bay by far. My reason for giving them 4 stars is service can be hit or miss. Prices are a little high but they are worth it. Highly recommended.
Good donuts but long line on the weekend
First time I have mochi-donut. I felt it was a little bit overrated. It was good, but after all its really just donut in the shape of mochi. I would still recommended if you never tried it, as you got to try something new for at least once. And I had to give them credit for their creativity.
Unsweeten soft donut. Taste is ok.
These donuts are so delicious!! Definitely craving some right now. I love them best when they’re warm because it’s so gooey and the icing is sticky, but also still taste good after it cools down. Texture becomes more dense but still very delicious!
Amazingly squishy, pretty, and surprisingly filling donuts! Prefer these over regular donuts. Better than some other mochi donuts Ive tried (like Modo donuts in San Jose).
The mochi donuts are delicious. Chewy and tasty. My favorite is the matcha and the kinako.
They have really great flavors. Line for this place is not that long during Covid. It is right by the parking elevator and easy to get to. I recommend the Taro and the Peanut Butter and Jelly. Soft on the inside and a lil crisp on the outside makes these chewy donuts amazing.
Mochi were delish!
You have to eat these quick! Theyll go hard soon if left sitting.
Insanely good donuts at a decent price. Nihon machi is a bit long in the tooth but stopping here for tako and doughnuts (at the same stand) almost always happens. If youve never had them, you should. If you have, I expect to see you in line again. :)
Amazon and delicious donuts. They are light and dreamy.
Only thing I didnt like was I couldnt get any other flavors. She said I had to order it online! So that part sucks
Its okay 👌
Decently priced at $2 for each mochi doughnut and they taste great. They dont hold very well for very long, and should be eaten right away. I think they start to degrade after an hour or so, and by the next day they are nowhere near as good as they were before. You can get the mochi to be chewy again by microwaving for 5 - 10 seconds if theyve been sitting out for a bit.
Their strawberry mochi donuts are so utterly delicious that I regret to having bought more. A must try if you love sweets
Long lines but donuts were worth the wait
