The ladys are like family and keep you safe inside the famous dirty harry bakery if you wonder outside you better be felling lucky punk .
The only reason why Im giving this place for stars instead of five is the location youre constantly having to deal with BS that comes along with this drug addled neighborhood aside from that the staff works very hard and has a lot of patience and they make every effort to get your order right and the apple turnovers are phenomenal. Before the pandemic hit you could get Kona coffee there from about 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. but they said they had to cut costs and its no longer available.
In a nutshell: fastest, most affordable, good donuts, coffee, and sandwiches any time of the day.I give the place 5 stars for being amazing at being what it is. It is in no way a 5-star luxury experience. In luxury scale, it is a 3-star coffee and donut shop. But for a casual simple neighborhood joint they do a great job which deserves each one of the 5 stats available. Here is whyOPEN 24/7. You can always rely on this place to get a coffee and a sandwich or a pastry, which they have a vast selection of.FAST SERVICE. Thats really fast unless there is a long line. Then its just plain fast because the line moves fast. They handle it well and put another person on taking orders. Coffee is self-serve and food comes out super fast.VALUE. The prices are great. Probably the best deals in the city.FLAVOR. the food is great but this is about history. This place has been around for quite a while now and offers a good portion of local flavor. What I mean by that is - you can get a sneak peak of the Tenderloin without being immersed in all of its splendor. Occasionally you may become an (un)fortunate witness of local drama or comedy performed by some less-than-ordinary looking characters.LOCATION is also great: steps away from UN plaza with its playgrounds, SF Public Library, Asian Art Museum, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, City Hall, and many more. In one word - downtown.Easily accessible by public transportation - Civic Center BART and Market street with all the busses and tram lines are just a few blocks away
Place is super good and very affordable! I order from here at least twice a week and the sandwich is amazing every time!
Yeah I give it I still give it a five because when I go there its a great service its pretty quick 👍
Theyve got some of the best donuts in town.and its open 24/7.
Great food, owner is exceptionally crabby and rude. Would be 5 stars with better service, but the food really is exceptional.
Fresh, yummy and delicious! Open at the earliest if hours. Im a big fan of the dozen donut holes and a maple log at 4:00 am. Their a.m. Cashier is quite charming and generous with their patience and delicious food. Yummiest Sunday morning treat. ADDICTING 😋 !
Love the donuts and coffee (24 hours) Corner action a low point Cant fault the place Very cool owners cant (wont) chase homeless off They have my respect
Always the best choice if you are ever in the block and hungry at 4 am on a tues... service with a smile
If Im buying breakfast food out, either for myself or with friends, I always go to this place, everything on their menu is delcious and cheap, the breakfast sandwhiches are huge, and the iced coffee is only $2.75, the place is cash only, but its well worth it because the prices are so reasonable and the food is so good.
One of my favorite places to get a cheap quick snack or a hot cup of coffee. The neighborhood is rough and the staff can be a little tough but they are really nice and kind as long as you are too. Bacon egg and cheese croissant is my go to sandwich! Enjoy
I shouldnt be sharing these secrets.... THE BEST cinnamon twists around. They are always out of them. I love the blueberry scones... coffee is reasonable and I love the selection of cakes and salads too! However tea is over priced... and dont try to get two bags cuz it will cost u another 2 bucks.... the women seem unfriendly but they are just busy firmly running their shop on the loosest block in sf, sharing the sidewalk and customers with Hondurans running the opiate/stimulate trade. Watch your wallet!
Great food, but the owners / managers / workers are rude and unpleasant. If it wasnt for them, Id probably rate this place a 5 based on the food.
These people deal with a lot of B.S. because its their location. So they cant run things like a normal coffee shop. Restroom? No, because they cant. What they do have is great sandwiches and quick service. You will also respect them for operating a business in the worst part of the tenderloin. These employees are underpaid and underappreciated.
This is the nicest place in [or on the edges of] the Tenderloin. Good bakery products [the stuffed croissants are to die for but the doctor told me to lay off or I will]; excellent coffee [I like the Colombian on the far right]. Its not a great area, even though the federal building is right across the street, but Nguyen does her best to keep order and has a good eye for spotting the miscreants. You, you, I see you. Get out now! Go in three times, and I bet theyll remember you the next time. I work in the state building kitty-corner from them, and Ive been a regular since 2001. Of course, how could I not like a place where I get a Norm! when I walk in at 6 am?
This place is the complete definition of Hustle. Sometimes you walk in on a drug deal so times you walk in on major Donuts tell sometimes you walk in on a robbery and yet theyre still open a community staple where else would they drug dealers in the drug addicts get the sugar fix if you can get to this place first thing in the morning its worth the donuts the coffee is always a choice the self-service areas usually covered with people who have scabs to needles on their analysis of the ones that scary Away by 7 a.m. if youre an early riser forget about it not unless youre brave enough to fight her drug addict homeless person for a donut oh sorry that would be me yeah it goes down about my sugar otherwise we have no problems do not touch the donuts but Im a little crazy I live here any who do they make awesome croissant breakfast sandwiches they only take cash hence the word Hustle but they do have an ATM inside if youre brave enough to use it while the homeless are there but if you come after 7 you should be fine good luck to you happy Donuts honey
Greasy and undercooked and swarmed with homeless people
Place doesnt inspire the most trust, but dont let that fool you. Especially given how cheap everything is.They have a lot of great stuff and its all very yummy.Their ham and cheese croissants are my favorite quick breakfast treats! Great donut holes as well.
Employees are EXTREMELY rude & discriminate customers via race &/or apparel commonly assume customers are homeless. Also not good at filling special orders (i.e. bagel +butter +small portion cream cheese +heavy jelly) usually making it the exact opposite of how ordered ( im beginning to believe its intentional) & if u want your $$$ back theyll give it back w/ the understanding that they no longer will accept your business/$$$
Love their donuts and very fast service
Fresh food. Very friendly people
Its funny cause years ago one late night I had a horrible experience concerning customer service here, vowed ID never ever spend and I didnt for a long while then one day I really wanted a donut and since then Ive been treated so well by some of the Asian lady angels that work there. Seriously i think possibly the womennof my dreams works there, but I digress great donuts. Great great.
Great doughnuts but need to have more control of the customers getting them in and out in a proper line
Great Place.Good selection of Coffees. Affordable. Donuts -Fresh made Sandwiches, Breakfast sandwiches, and much more.Oh, and I believe they are Open 24 Hours
I love its seedy, lack-luster veneer. Oh, and its convenience at four in the morning during curfew.
The last two times Ive ordered from this place, the croissants are still raw/doughy in the center.
The customer service is great and thats why the ladies just want to date me. One at a time ladies one at a timr
This place is a small, family run, hole in the wall coffee and donut shop. No frills. Dont come here looking for gourmet coffee and specialty donuts. But if you want a solid cup of coffee and good old fashioned donut, this is the place. Its cash only and thats posted various places.
All the drug addicts were there. But the lil lady serving did a great job!
I had some business in the court house building today and I stepped in Gateway Croissant for a coffee and a donut. This place is run down, its not cute, its not nice, but I swear I had the best donut since coming to USA three years ago. I hate American donuts. But this one was clearly freshly baked and it was HEAVEN. Coffee was super hot which I loved, too! Im going to fantasize about this donut every time Ill crave one:)
Really nice people, will return!
Normally I would have posted a pic but food looked so good I couldnt stop. I look forward to going back again. The place has a cool atmosphere. Food is similar to a place in San Francisco I loved.
Lots of fresh pastries. Good service
I got egg n cheese croissant with a donut and coffee. The sandwich was delicious, but nothing fancy. Donuts was enough for my sweet tooth. The coffee selection is great and 2 bucks for large. Amazing. It aint pretty over here, but the price for what you get is unbeatable. Would come back anytime.
Awesome donuts good coffee great service
Best apple turnovers and butterflies on the planet, hands down!! Most of the gals that work here are at least mildly pleasant as they serve the customers, but a couple of them can be a bit less than friendly, especially if you appear to be a street person. The toll of that the stress that is created from dealing with the TL Looneys 24/7 does tend to show at times. Be nice to these ladies, they deal with a lot, 24 hours per day. And I, for one, appreciate that!
I get breakfast there 3 to 4 days a week and they are always awesome even throwing some ham to my dog if shes with me. Dont be stingy and tip them. If youre one of these people who dont tip, dont eat out and if you do anyways be prepared to be remembered since you might not get decent service next time. Tip well
3 stars for being 24 hours, worker can be short at times. I would not even mention this if not for the recurrence of the issue.
Smells so good when the fresh pastries arrive early mornings.
While nothing fancy, this basic little cafe shop has good sandwiches, fresh fruit and tasty baked goods. Grab coffee and a donut for breakfast or a croissant sandwich for lunch. Staff was friendly, service was fairly quick. Good amount of seating. Cash only though.
Its a donut, not a French pastry. That said, its always good and the staff are always friendly. 5 to 7 coffee varieties available any given day starting at $1.60 for the small. I hear their sandwiches are excellent, but I havent tried one yet.
Best cheesecake in the world. 💜💯
Gateway Croissant is a great place to grab a snack, cup of coffee or sandwich. It is open 24 hours & they keep the store very clean. Here they serve 5 types of coffee and you can purchase a large coffee for less than half the price of a cup of Philz coffee across the street. The employees are attentive & friendly. My friends & I nicknamed one longtime employee the Oh, hi! guy after the way he greets customers.
I love making a pit stop at Gateway late at night or when Im up early in the morning... Theyre always fresh and delicious. Several types of coffee, drinks, chocolate milk... And best of all are the neon signs that flicker and cast a soothing glow.
We had our order delivered (Eat24).A very decent place to order breakfast or lunch. We ordered croissant egg/ham/cheese sandwiches (croissants were large and super flaky), ordered an egg salad sandwich (good, good portion), the apple fritter was excellent, and the smoothies are definitely worth a shot for a quick snack. Will definitely order from here again.
Dont forget to tip. They treat u better after u do. Seriously.
Decent donuts bagels and coffee. There are more homeless in this area than pedestrians and it doesnt feel very safe.
God this place and there fresh amazing Doughnuts all the time....
I like their ham egg and cheese croissants very good and well priced
Delicious donut!!
I love this place. Great food at great prices
Donuts here are always fresh and staff is very friendly. This place is located on Golden Gate and Larkin Street. Needless to say the area is not very pleasing. However The Donut Shop is open 24 hours a day.
Love this place. Its actually open 24/7 despite what Google maps says and has very personable and relatable employees. They rock!
Had a late sweet tooth.
The best croissant coffee donuts for miles around.
Great prices. Drug dealers hanging out puts the lady working there in stressful situations. Right next to DOD so whats wrong with this picture. Well zoos gotta earn money also right. Nice place show your support and get your energy there.
Good food, great prices. Super buttery/flaky croissants. Highly recommend it if youre in the area.
The donuts are fine but pastries are the real reason to visit (specifically the flaky, cinnamon twist!) WISH THEY WOULD PUT ICING ON THEIR RAISIN SNAILS THOUGH, PLEASE!!....
Im addicted to the almond croissant they make here! 🥐
Great staff! Freshly made ! Perfect sandwich
Nice people, fresh hot coffee and fresh baked delicious pastries, been going for 10 years now.
Open 24 hours and delicious bacon egg and cheeses
By far one of the most convenient places to get some grub since they are open 24/7. Egg croissant sandwiches are wicked good!
Im literally in love with this place.. Im particularly partial to the turkey, egg & cheese croissant 💖!!The selections here seem to be endless ie., donuts(every kind you want), donut holes, cinnamon rolls & fruit bowls, just to name a few of my favs..Furthermore although I dont drink coffee I notice they have multiple choices & each patron seems to be totally satisfied 👍🏾..I definitely give them a great big high🖐🏽 & a 😁!!
Owner told me, after placing an order, that they only accepted cash. She suggested using the ATM machine at the rear of the restaurant. I turned around to use the cash machine. The unit printed a receipt, telling me $20 had been debited from my checking account in addition to a $2.95 fee - but the machine was out of cash. After returning to the elderly Chinese woman at the counter - the same woman who advised me she only accepted cash after placing my order - she said Its not my machine, its not my problem.Do not give this business your money.
Stale donuts. The woman behind the counter wouldnt exchange my holes for some fresh ones. She also was rude, uninterested in helping. Not cool lady, NOT cool.Stay away, bros. Yum Yum is where it always has, and always will, be at.
I like the lady who works evenings. Day people arent very friendly. On the plus side theyre open 24 hrs.
The donuts were excellent, and friendly service. The guy who works at the counter knows me since I was 3. I recommend this place as a excellent donut and coffee shop with friendly people, and a fair amount of seating.
Got there about one, it wasnt busy. Looking forward to coming back with my relatives. This place has a nice atmosphere.
Great place to have your late night sugar fix. Come have a two sweet donut and a cup of milk and off
Best croissantwiches ever!
Best coffee and service in the city
Good donuts
I just happened to be in the area making some time for an appointment, and dropped by to have a little something. I had a ham and cheese croissant that was substantial and delicious. The service is good and corteous, and the place is kept very clean. The clientele can be very ecclectic, but thats San Francisco for you!
Very convenient bakery that is open 24/7 and serves some of the best pastries in the whole city. All of which are always extremely fresh...Never have I come here and received anything even slightly stale, no matter what time u are there even 3-4am nothing but the freshest!I will say the only thing I could point out that would be negative is that the employees here are not the friendliest people when it comes to customer service but I believe a lot of that also has to do with their location. The fact that they are serving the tenderloin district, im betting that more often a lot of the customers in this area are not the easiest ir most pleasant people to serve either! In summary I definitely recommend this joint as a must try. Also, I recommend everyone try their almond croissants, best in the entire city by far!!!
My husband loves the cheesecake
Service good and pastry and coffee as well however they have those who were coughing and had weird and odd behavior.
The donuts and coffee were tasty but I felt like the crueller is small.
Delicious ham, egg and cheese croissant!!
24hours amazing service cool people
Stopped in on a Monday I think. I had a cousin come into town and she asked me to go back here. Bring your hunger - portions are large.
So good at 1 am. Rough neighborhood. But so worth it.
Ive had nothing but enjoyable experiences here and plan to keep visiting. it has a nice atmosphere.
Probably the only place in SF with reasonable prices for coffee. Great bagels and pastries. Open all the time.
Better than a poke in the eye with a dirty finger!
Clean. Family owned friendly staff. Large selection of drinks like soda, milk, juice on top of all the different teas. Always have 5-6 kinds of coffee (including decaf, thank you) The donuts are fresh even near the end of the day (dunno how they do that)Fruit salads, cakes, sandwiches, they even made me thai ice tea before! Now theres a Philz across the street, whos iced coffee is to die for but Gateway will ALWAYS be a go to spot! A++
Best service in the city I love the sweet staff that work in dirty harrys favorite rest spot(see movie lol)
Nice people., long time here.
The best place to eat at night is always clean and the cashier is always nice and very polite
Good donuts, sandwiches, coffee, filled croissants and sitting space. BofA & Wells Fargo machines outside.
It a great place for a coffee but DONT GO at night because the people who work there assume that anybody that goes in there is going to steal something.
This gem has the best croissants in San Francisco, every day, every hour. Full stop.
Good for breakfast and lunch. Great price.
My go to breakfast when Im in the area and I used to use grubhub for delivery, but they are now outrageous with their fees associated to delivery.
Im not going to lie. I love this one.
Love there croissant, however Im not too crazy about the service.
Great Coffee, better than Phils across the street.
They sell outdated can drinks and other merchandise and its known to be a drug Hangout
Small place, good for quick donut at night.
