Very good ice cream. The root beer flights are out of this world a very enjoyable place to go on a nice day
One of the best icecream shops ever. Incredible how its made & the flavor is so incredibly delicious. I highly recommend a must stop while in San Francisco
Extremely rude and slow staff, barely move around. Waiting for 5 people to get their orders took about 20 min (this is an ice cream, not steak!). Hard to wait with unpatient toddler. A weird icecream girl with black hair shouted at us for sitting on the bench while waiting in the line to make an order. We left and never will be back. Hope they won’t stay in our neighborhood.
Quaint, ideally situated next to Patricia Park, a great spot to grab some freshly made ice cream. Got a single in a cup, single in a waffle cone and a root beer float - $21.00. I got the seasonal peaches and cream ice cream. Was expecting peach pieces but instead I got a vanilla ice cream with hint of peach. It was just okay. The way they make the ice cream is pretty cool though.
Best ice cream in San Francisco. Must come here to the original location. Yes, there is always a line. But its so worth the wait! Made-to-order in front of you.The liquid nitrogen brings out the most intense flavors. Its not just eating ice cream, but eating the flavor. Peanut Butter Banana was like eating creamy peanut butter and a ripe banana together.Bring at least a couple friends with you who are willing to share so you can try out more of the flavors at the same time.Best deal: Order the Regular ($6) instead of the Small ($5). You will get 3 scoops of delicious heaven instead of 1 scoop for only a $1 more.
You will not find a lot of different flavors here, but the ones they do (always changing) are well made and tasty.
Bespoke, colorful, and delightful ice cream Experience. Smitten makes sophisticated ice creams. Beautiful and Cheerful ambiance.Smitten is the Perfect date place or the perfect place to catch up with friends :).The texture of smitten ice cream is perfect. Smitten is my favorite ice cream shop! They also have online order ice cream gift baskets that are delightful.
Dont walk here. Run! Hands down, one of the best ice cream shops in SF!!! Cookie dough flavor, omg, love at first lick!!! Will not disappoint!
Staff never fails me on my high expectations. A huge thank you for helping me. Tremendous!
This is my half-melted ice cream soup, barely 2 minutes after receiving my order. I used to be a huge fan of smitten, back when they used to actually freeze their ice cream all the way. The ingredients are stellar and I used to come here once or twice a week. Even picked up a job here when I was between careers several years back. I dont know why but they stopped freezing their ice cream into a solid. Its already glistening and watery when handed to me, and its fully soup by the time Im halfway into my scoop.Ive requested the staff freeze my scoop extra hard every time Ive come here in the past year or two, and it hasnt changed. Ice cream soup, not a solid. Please, train your staff better or change the programming on the machine to dose a few more times with the liquid nitrogen. Paying for a top notch scoop of ice cream and getting a sloppy melted goo is just disappointing. The fact that I have to take my ice cream home to freeze it before eating is ridiculous.
With just 5 or 6 flavors these guys manage to hit more home runs than places with 10+. Absolutlyley the best velvety cream texture melting in your mouth. YUM
Its honestly one of the best ice creams Ive had in a long time. Weve been there four times, but I believe well return before the end of our vacation. Great ice cream, lovely place, and lovely employees.
Smitten Ice Cream was downright awesome! Its truly an experience for newcomers and frequent passerby alike!
Smitten is the perfect place to go for a quick delicious snack. The ice cream has a wonderful consistency: smooth, creamy, and soft. It is made on order (with fresh ingredients) and placed in handmade waffle cups or cones. The stand has a wonderful ambiance and seeing the “brrr” machines in action is as exciting as the final product.
The smooooooothest ice cream you will ever have. Even the most basic of flavors feel inventive here—the cookie dough comes will pretzel and chocolate chip bits that taste like toffee. Always a go-to!
Super tasty and unique flavor: sweet corn with berries (comes w berry drizzle syrup). Very good and would def come back. Also if you pay with paypal you get $5 off your purchase!Finished the 1st one and went back again to try the chocolate flavor. It is super chocolatey and a little too sweet. The sweet corn and berries is def tastier.
Awesome ice cream. Great service. Get the Lisa special.
Excellent ice cream! The chocolate flavor is my favorite and I will be back just for that!
I visited this place last Saturday and enjoyed the ice cream but the service was unbelievably rude.I couldn’t see the flavors on the menu and asked the cashier girl. She got upset that I asked her. She got even more upset when I couldn’t understand her answer and asked her to repeat what she said. There was no one else in the line, so I couldn’t get why she had a very inpatient and rude attitude.
My young son thought it was very neat how it was made but other than that our whole family thought it was completely bland, tasteless and disappointing . I cant believe anybody thinks this ice cream tastes good unless we got a bad batch or something. I was traveling so maybe thats just how ice cream tastes in the area for some reason. I asked them if they had ice cream sundaes with toppings and they looked at me like I had two heads. I mean people in San Francisco have tasted normal good tasting ice cream from say maybe the store right ? It tasted like toothpaste at best and not even good tasting toothpaste Im talking Toms of Maine toothpaste. I guess in order to make delicious ice cream it has to be non-sustainable, non-environmentally friendly, non-locally sourced, non-87 different gender neutral whatever with chemicals etc but when you want ice cream you want ice cream not some watered down Toms of Maine toothpaste tasting bland version of it stuff thats half melted and soupy by the time they hand it to you. Other than that it was great !
Skip the toppings, or at least go easy. You lose noticing anything about the ice cream. Waffle bowl is crisp, sugary, and excellent.
Love the unique ice cream flavors and its also fun to check out the nitrogen machine. The waffle bowls were nice and crisp too!
Smooth, creamy, delicious ice cream and very creative flavors. Gotta love the process as well since they make it fresh to order from scratch!
Can’t be better when your ice cream is been made the moment you order
Very interesting and nice place (and area). Staff is very friendly. The ice cream itself wasnt that great. I chose the chocolate mint one, there was almost no chocolate and the mint taste was like I was chewing on a mint leaf.... not very tasty, but I guess its not what Im used to. The texture of the ice cream is very interesting because its made from liquid nitrogen. Overall great place to visit. (Maybe the other flavors are better)
The Brrrr ice cream was definitely worth going to Hayes Valley. I would say the downside to going there is no public restrooms nearby and that sucks, but hey they just sell ice cream. Elouise enjoyed her vanilla with organic dye free sprinkles and I loved my passion fruit with salty caramel. Overall a good way to end our eating tour of San Francisco.
This is truly magic happening. Prior to this I thought I’ve had my fair share with ice creams and I’ve tried quite some types and places. But after this, all other ice creams should be ashamed and stop calling themselves ice cream - it’s just sooo smooth, creamy with distinct yet subtle flavor. To be frank, the vanilla one is simple enough and taste the best. The pricing is also reasonable not that anyone would care.
Best ice cream in the city!
They have the best chocolate ganache in the whole world. Im not exaggerating.. genuinely its the best of all.
Would I come back: Yes (but my wife didnt like it as much).Value: Liked their unique twist on ice cream. Im sure their process added something to the taste but I cant say I know what it was.The Good: Made to order and unique. The Bad: I cant think of anything although my wife didnt like the flavour we chose.Bath/Rest/Wash-rooms: n/a
Fresh churned! The cone is yummy!
The rating is simply due to the fact that I checked online for store hours before paying an Uber to take me across town to try their ice cream that a friend had raved about. I was in town for three days and wasted one night and two uber rides on this place not being able to update their social media with a quick “sorry, closed tonight”. Extremely disappointed. If you find my review helpful be sure to ‘like’ it!
Chocolate Ganache is awesome.
Love this place! If you want absolutely smoothest ice cream, this is your place!
Super nice and creamy ice-cream. A little too costly for my liking though. USD5 for small cup of single scoop. Download Thanx app for free small ice cream. Several outlets in SF and LA. Freshly made when you order. Kept in liquid nitrogen to ensure ice crystals are as tiny as possible so that you can get the purest ice-cream.

It’s not that the ice cream wasn’t good, it was. There was 4 of us who ordered, just scoops in a cup. One got there’s after 20 minutes, then the next 15 minutes later, then the next 10 minutes later, then the last 10 mi utes later. In between three others were called in for there ice cream cone. ??? The lady in front of us was actually still waiting for hers after we all finally got ours. There was two workers there. Couldn’t figure out their delivery but while good, I would never go there again.
Mediocre. By no means is it bad, its ice cream after all but nothing special. Frankly, when there is better ice cream literally around the corner priced the same, it makes no sense to have Smitten unless the queue is significantly shorter here. I wont mention the other places name so no one mistakes this review for a shill.
Not just scrumptious ice cream, made to order via a fascinating nitrogen chilling/mixing system that you can observe - their product is something truly special. Worth going out of your way! Taster spoons don’t do justice to the rich flavor and satin mouth feel. For that I recommend taking home at least a pint and digging with your favorite tablespoon. The onsite special desserts are also spectacular!
Service was courteous and fast! Ice cream was absolutely delicious. Watching the ice cream being made in front of you is magical. The variety of flavors is limited;however, I still had time deciding because they all sounded great. There is a single bench that wraps inside the small shop and people seemed to move on basically right after getting their ice cream. It was busy, but didnt feel crowded.
The OG. Frankly I think that the whole liquid nitrogen super-frozen ice cream gimmick is long dead, BUT they have a single redeeming item: their mint ice cream. It’s ungodly. It’s not of this world.Go for just the mint. You won’t be disappointed.
Amazing ice cream! I got a scoop of chocolate peanut butter fudge, and a maple bourbon bar. The ice cream was so so delicious and I wished Id ordered more! The bar was also good but the texture was unexpected. Bathroom was clean and easily accessible. Sat in a bar stool at the window and people-watched.
The ice cream was freshly made on the spot, had a strong milky flavor, and was very good! I really enjoyed this ice cream shop. Theres little space inside, but its right next to a park and a great place to eat.
One of the best ice creams I have eaten in my life. Smallest amount of ice crystals in the ice cream scoop. Thanks to their proprietary brrrr machine. Smoothest ice cream texture with delightful flavors. Chocolate lovers will not be disappointed here.
Ice cream is OK, actually their waffle cones are better than the ones in salt and straw. However I always find the service there unfriendly and understaffed
Great little ice cream stand in the heart of hayes valley. Their liquid nitrogen cooled ice cream is fun to watch them make and even better tasting! My creamy early grey with chocolate chips scoop was obviously made with care and quality ingredients.
Worst customer service ever!!! Ordered a float, ice cream, pint of the seasonal and a cookie. Didn’t receive the pint and cookie for a while and when I asked, the Asian girl behind the counter threw the bag at me. When confronted, she totally ignored and said nothing!! What a BS service! Even my 8 year old daughter asked why she is so rude. There was no line, it was empty in there because of the long weekend. Can’t imagine what the service will be like on a busy day. Will never come back and there are plenty of other ice cream shops with better service and who actually cares about their customers. BIG disappointment.
Always reliable. Everything is great. Small menu makes it easy to make. Decision and flavors/sundaes are seasonal/always changing. Portions are big, usually a single scoop is the perfect amount.
Not a lot of ice cream options, but the choices you have are good ones. I tried the chamomile with honey and sauce as recommended. I loved it. My son had vanilla & the guy there was kind enough to add in some sprinkles, not to many but the gesture was magnificent for . I love when people do or give a bit extra just to provide a bit of kindness& thoughtfulness on top of great service. My hubby had the strawberries crisp, hes not big on anything sweet and he finished all of his ice cream and before I did, which means it was just the right amount of sweet and a whole lot of delicious. Its a small shop, relaxed walking area to hang out. I loved it and will definitely go back when Im in the area.
Theres honestly one main reason to come to Smitten and thats to live my Up fantasies. This is my first time at the Oakland location and I definitely prefer it over the Vacaville one. Parking in the area isnt great but do-able if youre lucky or go during an off time. There is a small lot but even on an off night we had to find parking elsewhere.
Finally went on a Friday afternoon for some ice cream. The weather was perfect! Sunny and more sun! Weekends lines are out the door! Its at a great location, Hayes Valley. I love ice cream and I always like to order mine on a sugar cone. I ordered the Salted Caramel. Definitely delicious indeed! However, the Waffle Cone was not what I expected. It was a bit too sweet that the sweetness played a trick on my palette along with the ice cream. Great place. They make the ice cream there in front of you. Bonus! Awesome folks, but for $6.20 for two scoops of ice cream, not too thrilled.
What a fun place! The salted caramel is delicious and the the Summer Herb is a flavor to be reckoned with. Youll walk away feeling satisfied, refreshed, and happy. The wait isnt too long of a price to pay for fresh ice cream but the price is a bit hefty. That being said, its totally worth the experience.
Smoothest is cream ever! Delicious limited flavors with interesting toppings. Can be served on delicious baked goods. I particularly liked a less sweet, almost salty waffle cone. Great setting, too !
