Cool place, good selection, pretty high prices

A local institution has gotten a boost of energy and sharpening of vision with a new owner! Visit Austin at Costuming on Haight for reasonable prices on your aliases, fantasies, and good old dress up.The prices here are excellent. I just bought a crinoline/petticoat for $22...so much less than many shops! It was available in a rainbow of colors and several lengths, even tutu!Everything you need is here. Get styled by Austin and his people from head to toe or pick up everything from masks, make up, full costumes - rented and for sale, accessories and more!!Theyre starting to get some beautiful ooak pieces. Please see the photo of the Blind Shaman mask - an amazing molded leather fetish that would stop traffic at any function.Add support for local artists - both visual and costume - and you really must stop in. There are some great drawings on display of villain characters (like Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, etc) and fantastic costume stretches.A local business worth your time and dime. Im a fan!

I like this place. Personable staff, willing to work with you. They didnt have what I needed, but they had a lot of alternatives that might have worked. I really liked the accessories. Buttons and pins: whats not to like.

Super helpful. Went there with no idea of what to be for Halloween. Saw something that inspired me. And the people there helped me find all the pieces I needed and came up with suggestions. I went when it wasnt that crowded so your mileage may vary.

Do not return costumes even if you bought it and try to return it BEFORE Halloween. I dont even take it out from the bag!!!

Mix of high quality and cheap stuff. Staff is helpful. Something to fit everyone. Cheap stuff is cheap quality but not in price. Try to not wait until Halloween or NYE to go. I am not one to dress up. Sure, Ive had ideas on the past, but it just seemed like too much work. Well, that all ended this past Halloween. The selection here is pretty good, and the staff are helpful, knowledgeable and down to earth. Ive actually gone back to dress up as other stuff. I guess you can say that they changed my life. :)

This spot is packed with costumes SF.I remember coming here a few years back to get some el-wire and not noticing the costumes as much. Now the shop is packed with costumes at a few different price points (There are some Rad and Fancy Vampire Capes. One had this wicked feather pop collar.)It seems this place is trying to support the creatives of San Francisco by having locally made pieces and having nicer wigs (some were in crazy vibrant colors), theater grade make up (I saw Kryolan and Ben Nye), and some fun prosthetics and masks (If they still have it ask to see the blind shaman).Only down side is they dont seem to have all the blinky lights they use to carry. However, for all they have added I can find the blinky stuff elsewhere... if only I knew where.

Costumes on Haight probably has a costume for you, if you should need something cool to wear to a fancy dress-up or cosplay event. They arent exactly cheap, but its much more cost effective than purchasing one of those designer costumes from Imposters which you can probably find right here for rental for a day or two at about 10% of what it cost to own the same thing. You will need to put down a deposit for the retail cost of the suit before renting it, but they typically wont charge your card, unless you dont bring the suit back on time, or its damaged. They are quite reasonable in most cases, and have a really good selection of costumery for just about any occasion. I definitely recommend them.

The best costume shop in the city. You can rent (or buy) or some really authentic looking costumes for those frequent occasions to dress up in this city. Stop in for a sombrero or bull runner sash for Cinco de Mayo or get a full bull fighter costume for Halloween. They have everything for every costume occasion. If you don’t need to try it out, you can even reserve items straight from their website. Pro tip: it gets busy (a line outside the door) the last few days before big costume events like Halloween or Bay to Breakers, so go early.

If you plan to get your bay to breakers or halloween stuff from here, then come at least 2 weeks before. The best costumes run out fast.

Great variety but will get more limited for popular weekends, Halloween, day of the dead, etc. Availability to rent and buy is a plus!

I had never been in here before this Halloween. I wish Halloween was monthly so I had more excuses to come back. Here are the things my friends and I found: a Gangam Style costume for rent, and amazing Michael Jackson jacket a la Beat It, an awesome mask for $20, earrings for wearing in real life. It was the most successful one-stop-shop ever! The people behind the counter were so helpful, and clearly wanted everyone in the shop to get the perfect Halloween outfit. They must have been exhausted as it was 7:30pm and Im sure the store had been packed all day, but they were helpful, humorous and knowledgable. Even if youre not looking for a costume, stop in here. You might end up with one!

Never visit near Halloween. Waited out in the cold a half hour to get in. Selection was fine, but overpriced.

Funnier, little shop filled up to the top. There, there are funny things. In search of (Carnival) make-up, but I did not find anything.As everywhere else in these neighborhoods, there are never really parking spaces, depending on the day of the week they are closed. Thursday was o.k
