From a legitimate hidden location down an alley in San Francisco Chinatown is this legendary facility. The owner is absolutely heartwarming and about people coming together. Had a chance to chat with the owner outside of fortune cookies and seeing that he is about people coming together only makes the supporting of this historic landmark even more rewarding.

This is a Must see in the San Francisco China town. Personalized fortune cookies made right in front of you. We bought a bunch for gifts and had several personalized for our business. They can package them too so you can travel with a lot of cookies on the plane. We needed to take a bunch on the plane but wanted them individually packaged in a Chinese take out box.

Look - this place is the literal definition of a tourist trap. It would not exist without tourists - but it is totally worth visiting and experiencing. They make fortune cookies while you watch here - and they make a lot of them. They have normal ones, flavored ones, adult ones and the coolest ones of all - ones where you write your own fortune. It’s chaotic inside, you don’t really know what your buying or the prices and they are helping like 5 people at once - but it’s part of the experience. The cookies are tourist prices but still reasonable - you will also likely get some extra in the bag (if you buy a lot) and some samples. Worth checking out when you visit or when you want to play tourist!

Awesome little place. An employee is taking the fortune paper and putting them in the cookies right there. She will hand you flat cookies for free, she had a tip jar, so I tipped. Bags of fortune cookies fill the walls in different flavors. We got the chocolate and regular mixed bag with dirty fortunes inside. Cant wait to open those.

BEST Fortune Cookies!!A little hard to find and there was about a 25 minute line on a holiday weekend, but well worth it.First stop on our SF China Town tour. Two weeks later and we are still eating both flat & traditional delicious fortune cookies. Its in a small alley (56 Ross Alley) off Jackson St.While waiting, the attendants were handing out still-warm samples...incredible tasting. Good variety of fortune cookie products. Staff was very courteous, respectful, and efficient.Highly Recommend!

Located in Chinatown in San Francisco, this small shop is a great place to buy fortune cookies. They sell a variety of types and flavors, such as traditional, flavored, topped with icing, flat (my moms personal favorite), and even ones filled with adult fortunes. The staff are friendly and even threw in free fresh samples and bags! The store is located in an alley, and can get quite popular at some points in the day. Cash is preferred, so make sure to load up before going.Overall, great place to stop by if youre in the area (and also to pick up a souvenir or two to share with those back home).

This place is cute! It’s nice to see many different types of Fortune cookies. You can also place your own custom handwritten fortune (well you hand the paper to the lady). The only thing I wish they had, was someone who speaks English. The day I went, everyone just spoke English. But they were kind. Check it out.

My wife found the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory when she was doing research on places to go to in Chinatown. They were established in 1962, and they still make their fortune cookies by hand. In addition to the normal vanilla flavor, they also have chocolate, strawberry, and green tea. You can also order fortune cookies with customized fortunes for special occasions. It was amazing to watch the fortune cookies being made. The great thing is that the fortune cookies can stay fresh for up to three months. They do taste better than any other fortune cookie I have ever had.

A good stop if you are giving a visitor a tour in sf chinatown. There are times when the line is long, this is true during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years season. If there are a lot of people, usually they will have two lines. One is for the people who wants to take pictures and buy some fortune cookies and the other line is for people who only wants to buy cookies. The last time we went, one bag is $7 for the regular ones and $15 for the dipped ones. So if you are going to buy to give away, its going to add up. We ended up paying more than $100 in there. In fairness, its good to eat with ice cream, coffee or tea. The guy owner is nice and the staff are ok too. They have free samples of newly baked ones.

Cool shop. You can watch the fortune cookie making process. And you can also create your own fortune cookie in a nook on the side wall.Highly suggest you sample a warm and fresh fortune cookie right off the line.Be prepared to wait ten minutes or so to buy anything. The shop is small and a popular attraction. So any busy time of the day will result in a line out the door.Tip.The shop is down Ross Alley. So access the alley by turning north from Washington street or south from Jackson street.Enjoy and may your fortunes be fortuitous.

It was lovely to see the way they are made and learn about the history. I highly recommend you don’t only buy one bag of coins but a bunch as they are delicious. My son was able to learn a little more about their culture. the owner was super kind. And you can experience the way they do it and even create your own.
