Lovely cheese shop with wide selection of domestic and imported cheeses, preserved meats, wine, honey, dried fruit, etc. Been coming here for 14 years.
I’ve had some issues with this 24th street business being rude in the past. I even stopped going there for several years. But I started up again in the last few years, and they have been great. I bring my service dog and leave her right by the door in a sit stay and the woman usually insists on giving her cheese.Today, I put my service animal in a sit stay by the door, and the older man that works there got very angry with me and told me she couldn’t be there. I said she always comes with me and she’s a service animal and he said that doesn’t matter because of Covid, I shouldn’t bring her in. (Note: She was literally in the doorway in a sit-stay and not moving. She weighs 13 pounds and was not in anyone’s way. There were no other customers there).I explained that dogs don’t spread Covid and so that was irrelevant. But he insisted that I was not allowed to have my dog with me. I said that’s like telling me I can’t have the crutches with me that I am using to walk. Or someone can’t have a wheelchair. You can’t tell me what medical equipment I need. And he kept saying he did have a right and he was very angry and very, very rude. And he was doing this while people were outside watching, so it was all the more humiliating. I finally was forced to just walk out.Obviously he has some kind of dog phobia or problem, but that does not mean that he can verbally attack me and refuse me service. I am totally fed up with this store and have reported them to the ADA office of the mayor. (Anyone else know where I can report this?) But I also wanted to put something up here so the neighborhood would also know to avoid this place if they don’t like places that actively reject and humiliate people with disabilities or with medical needs. What an absolutely embarrassing and horrifying experience. No one should have to be subject to that kind of abuse.
What a great shop! Wonderful cheeses and lunch meat and so many other goodies. They even have caviar! The woman who helped us made great suggestions and was very patient with my husband 😊
An extremely rude person running the business. Essentially insulted us and made it clear that our lack of cheese knowledge was not going to be welcome in the store. Stay away unless youre in the mood for being insulted. Youll get that by the pound here! If youre really trying to support small business, find another one!
Exceptional store, quite unique. Not only fine cheese, but other great food items including salami, red cabbage, pine nuts, much more. Small sample size cheese at front counter. Sounds like French music from back in the day playing to really get that old school European vibe. Owner has been here 34 years.
This place is legit. Amazing selection of cheese, gourmet meat, wine and specialty items. I really enjoyed chatting with who I am assuming is the owner.
Favorite cheese shop in SF. Great staff with friendly and helpful suggestions about the delicious cheese. I have found new flavors here, highly recommend. During this covid crisis please be considerate to the staff here and wear a mask properly. They are extremely nice and should be shown respect and protected. They have an open door and fan for air circulation but need customers to be considerate too.
Great cheeses and wine and all else i need to cheer my guests
Awesome store. I disagree with some comments posted about the petite woman behind the counter so I had to say something...she is nice, very knowledgeable -- and has a great sense of humor. Maybe that can come across the wrong way, but give this great store (and the petite woman) another chance :)
On multiple visits here, staff have been rude or condescending. I always want to support local, but it’s not worth getting talked down to. I’m sorry.
Today, I went to buy cheese to this shop. The woman was immediately very rude to me. It took me some time to understand that it was because she didnt like me having a backpack (full of vegetables from the farmer market)When I suggested that she could speak nicely, she stopped to cut the cheese and asked me to leave.I told her that it was discrimination. She pushed the door on me and yelled at the other worker to call the police (which he didnt do)... Then she saws a police car outside, she ran toward them yelling police, police and pointing at me yelling harasser!I had a nice discussion with the police officers. They told me that unfortunately, as a business owner, she can refuse to serve to anyone. This is not how business should be done. Theres nothing we can do. We are not the moral police, we cant tell people how to behave is what they told me.Reading the other comments about this woman rudeness and racism doesnt surprise me.If you want to spend a nice day in Noe Valley, Stay away from this shop!
Great selection, truly helpful and amazing service. I had planned to go to four different stores to get ready for a cocktail party I was throwing that evening, and I managed to get everything I needed there with the help of the staff. I will return again for all of my wine and cheese needs.
Great cheese but will boycott until the behavior of the staff is addressed.
Agreed with the reviews that the shop and selection are great but have seen staff be outright rude to customers
Most dangerous place in Noe Valley - I always end up buying way more than I initially wanted. Get the truffle pecorino if you have the chance, its fantastic!
They could easily be a five star, but the staff is hit and miss. It is a well stocked cheese shop with a good charcuterie selection (five star). When Larry is working, the service is great, he is super knowledgeable and always helpful (five star). When the older petite woman is working, I dont bother to go in anymore. She is outright rude, disrespectful, and couldnt care less (less than one star).
My daughter and I stop by during the farmers market to get delicious cold cuts and cheese. Larry always breaks my daughter off a few tastes, and she loves it. Such a great shop, with wonderful items you cant really get anywhere else.
I ♡ all the extense variety of cheeses they have. Always find something delicious.
I have been coming here for years and putting up with the workers attitudes (the petite older lady), condescending demeanor, and high prices because I believe in supporting local business; however, todays experience has affirmed my reluctance to ever go here again. I will not patronize this shop again because of the lack of curtesy and customer service at this cheese shop. Cheers and good luck to your business. Merry Christmas.
My go-to place for specialty cheeses. I buy my French Raclette cheese from them every year and I am never disappointed. They have a good selection of cheese, cured meats and wine. Recommended!
Gem of the neighborhood. Excellent cheese and tons of related products (quince jam, fancy nuts and dried fruits, wine, crackers). Expert staff. Support local businesses!
Excellent selection of hard to find cheeses from all over the world. Knowledgeable, friendly staff.I would like to see them do a website with a list of products.
The cheese is pricey here but thats what happens when youre buying quality goods. The staff here is friendly and quick to offer samples. I love these small neighbor finds.
Small little cheese shop with lots of dry products, too. Lots of cheeses. Not enough staff when it gets busy. But I recommend if youre not in a hurry.
Pretty good school I dont think it should be the worst rated middle school
An awesome selection of cheeses, and knowledgeable staff that are happy to give you a sample. They have a great selection cured meats as well. Truly a neighborhood treasure.
When I want great cheese, I come here. The shop is aged but unique. It is the same as it was when I was a child, My children love to come here and try new cheeses and other sorts. great variety and selection also has many different salamis and meats. San Fracisco Natives.
Great range of cheeses and super helpful, friendly staff.
Huge selection of cheeses, meats, and other gourmet items. The staff is extremely helpful and unpretentious. Dont know havarti from halloumi? No problem, theyll help you figure out what you want and taste it all.
Ive been living in Noe Valley for almost 2 years. Been in that shop every week. Loved everything.
Unfortunately, I was so disappointed by how the woman behind the counter greeted me. I asked a question regarding a food product snf her response was insulting, I walked out! Great products but you might get chased away.
I want to like this place, but my experiences with the owners or staff in there have been very negative, not just rude, but racist.I like Jamon Iberico, and they have that once in a while. One time, I ask for it, and the guy clerk says we do have it, but it just arrived, so I will not open the package for just a quarter of a pound (Lb is $90, so OK next time...)Some other time, I go ask for Jamon Iberico, the same guy says loudly But you know that it costs $90 dollars a pound. I guess I dont look like I can afford that, OK...Third time is an old woman clerk (Or owner?), I go ask again for Jamon Iberico, as she is cutting it, she asks me if I am from Spain, I said no, from Mexico, and as I am leaving she starts singing in low voice that I can still hear.. Lets build a wall, and keep them out...OK, I will take my business somewhere else.
Cheery is BS. After paying to park and walking into their wide open front door, a lady bluntly said “we’re closed.” And I said, “10 minutes early??” She snidely repeated “we’re closed” to which I said, “wow.” Crappy attitude and a real let down to my nice day in the city. People like that just ruin the goodness of an otherwise great city.
Amazing selection and helpful staff!
Outrageously rude staff. As soon as I opened the door, the woman behind the counter shrieked at me.. No, no, no!...out! CLOSED! Im done! She then proceeds to act exasperated over the offense of me entering by throwing her hands up in the air. If you want to close five minutes early, thats fine, but dont be pissy about it and make a scene over nothing. Your front sign says OPEN, your lights are on, doors unlocked, and other people are inside. I live in this neighborhood and will not give them my business again. Nobody needs cheese this badly.
Have walked by this place a million times and always see people inside trying cheese and finally decided to go in this weekend. There is a large selection of not just cheese, but meats, olive oils, wines and chocolates. I purchased some Halva which is a sweet treat, reasonably priced and the staff was very friendly.
The woman’s positively rude and officious, if that doesn’t deter you it’s a well stocked cheese shop. She’s jaded me forever unfortunately.
Great selection of cheese and cured meats!
Super nice. Theyll direct you to the right cheese.
When I called to ask whether they had vacherin (I wanted to make a fondue), they surprised me by asking whether I wanted vacherin Fribourgeois or vacherin Mont dOr! I didnt even know I had a choice (FYI, the first one is the one you use for fondue). All other places I tried didnt have that kind of cheese. If you need some obscure cheese, the Cheese Co is your destination
They have great cheese!
Cosy, friendly neighborhood joint. Good selection.
Small cheese shop and Noe Valley I like the owners
Great cheese selection, a bit pricy
Great guys and wonderful cheeses
I called asking for a specific cheese and all I got was I dont know and *click*
Horrible rude owner.
The waitress is nice and she has the favorite cheese, Appenzeller. Its hard to find.
