A great place, that deserves your regular visits (mine too). An ever evolving collection of used books, videos, and music. Prices are reasonable. They have yearly sales that I always miss :-(

Great little bookstore, run on donations. I am always on the lookout for Egyptology books, but rarely find anything I dont already have. This place surprised me, I found something, at a great price! And the service was very friendly and helpful.

A treasure trove of old books, drawings and other random stuff. Weve purchased several antique postcards and books. All credit cards accepted, and there is also a nice cafe at the back. A great place to spend some time after a visit to the Sunday farmers market at Fort Mason.

I miss this place so badly. It’s currently closed due to COVID but I hope it’s coming back one things go back to normal.

It’s a used bookstore, so selection varies, but the collection is well curated, the books are in great condition, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Highly recommended! And it’s a good cause to support, too.

Prices for all books have gone up by about 30-50%. I used to find good used books here for reasonable prices. Now everything is pricier so with a little online search, find much better deals through online used book sellers. Nice location by the water, although the parking in and outside the immediate area is all fee-based now,. The only thing thats free for the general public is the Italian art gallery next door,

This is a used bookstore, a great local institution, and book sales support SF public library. They sell vintage albums and let you browse for a while. They have a lot of books!

I know this place is part of Friends of San Francisco Public library. I tend to frequent bookstores, but I make it a point to stop by here when Im in the area because all proceeds go to the public library. They have a very large selection of books nicely organized. There are tables to sit and look over books, even have a cup of coffee. The most important thing is they only take cash. So that Visa or Mastercard wont work here.

When visiting friends in CA, I really enjoyed the well-curated selection of books and spent a long time browsing. Their kids section was great, too!

The best nonprofit bookstore in The City, and, given the storied, fabled and legendary devotion of San Franciscans to writers, books, bookstores and libraries, this quiet place perched under a promontory overlooking the Pacific, may be the finest palace of print in America for people who value prose, poetry and pedagogica over profit.Last week I found over 40 beautiful books on grand notions I’d been seeking, and they were all discounted because I had a “Friends of the Library” membership—well worth the annual fee.My treasure hunt recovered a quirky, brilliant history of the concept of zero (the number shaped like an oval, not the vacuous politician camping in the Oval Office), an analysis of Greek Antiquity from a Herodotean perspective, Locke’s understanding of human nature from earliest modernity, a survey of Jewish communities of great continuity in incredibly remote corners of unexpected places, E. O. Wilson on the evolution of ethics, a beautiful reproduction of Vesalius’ human anatomy historic masterpiece, a few gorgeously illustrated books on art and architecture and several vintage textbooks on building and industrial codes (sounds pedantic but you won’t find more intriguing and lyrical schematic design anywhere this side of 1949).“Sapere Aude!,” as Erasmus (whom Kant was quoting) said—Dare To Know. And come here to find what to know.
