They’re open! I’ve been meaning to visit for awhile and today, I got a flat while riding back from the Dogpatch. Bike Kitchen was open and it was bustling! I was able to wait a hot second and a bike stand opened up. One of the awesome volunteers taught me how to fix my own flat (bought the tube from them) for less than the price I would’ve paid at the local bike shop. Now I know how to fix a flat :)I’m really excited to go back and figure out how to add a back rack to my bike as well. See you all soon and thank you!

This is such a great space, I cant recommend it enough. I got my bike fixed up in no time and got dozens of questions answered by the friendly volunteers. Cheap parts too!

Ive only been there once but I was able to work on my bike, and repair and adjust everything that needed servicing. Since I didnt have any tools of my own that opportunity really helped me out a lot.Thanks Bike KitchenNoel

Ive been here on at least 5 separate occasions now to fix various components of my two bicycles. The volunteers are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful; in the process of repairing my bikes Ive learned a tremendous amount and had a lot of fun. If youve got the time to spare and are open to learning something new then this is by far the best way to get your bike fixed for the money.

A community-focused place where you can repair your bike for cheap (unbelievably cheap!) and learn a lot while doing it!This is truly of my favorites place in San Francisco! The staff is knowledgeable, helpful and so, so, so nice! The best people with the biggest hearts :)I went to the shop today because a car had run over my wheel and it was bent. Two members of the staff helped me fixed it (one was Olbert & the other I forgot the name of, but thanks so much to both!) and I was out with a bike that felt like new and new knowledge after an hour of work

Amazing place. My rusty old screeching bike was treated so well. They are so nice to a first timer who has no clue. They help you learn how to fix your bike, and they charge you only about 1/5 of what I usually pay for the same kind of tune-up.

This place is awesome, I love it. You get a sense of community and that’s special, also super friendly staff an they are very helpful. I will definitely start going there now.

These folks are phenomenal . The best thing in SF if you cycle. If you have even a tiny thing wrong with your bike, take it there, meet the amazing experts and learn how to fix it all yourself. You may even find yourself tempted to do more (I fixed my gears, brake cables and levers and seat on my first trip). Its amazing .

Great place to take your bike to.

As far as I know, its the only name in the DIY Bicycle Repair game in SF. Volunteers (who can credit their hours towards an annual membership or a new bicycle) are very helpful if you forget how to true a wheel, and their equipment is in excellent shape... much better than the half-missing wrench assortment I was used to in college.If you have a bike in the city, I highly recommend the annual membership. Being able to stop in 5 days a week to tune up your breaks or scavenge for new parts is a godsend.This is a great community space and a great asset to the city.

What a effing great idea the Bike Kitchen is! The people here are generally helpful, knowledgeable, patient and kind. Definitely worth the $40 or so dollars for a years membership. Great for anyone who wants to learn as they tinker.

This is the perfect place to go if your bike needs some work and/or replacement parts. I saved a bunch of money and learned a lot about fixing and tuning up my bike. I needed a replacement rear wheel since mine was stolen. They have a bunch of used parts that you can buy for much cheaper than a regular bike shop would charge. Instead of charging you to install it, they show you how to do it yourself. I paid just $6 for access to the shop and the staffs expertise, plus $25 for a complete wheel. Cant beat that!

I learned a lot about bicycles here by working on it by hand. It’s such a great concept. Just wish the opening hour can be extended cos three hours just fly so quickly.

Friendly, supportive volunteers. It can get crowded so I recommend going right when it opens. Go with the intention of being patient, but youll learn a lot. I love this place, its taught me so much!

Great community, people and fun place to learn how to fix your bike.

Ive been here once. Seemed like a great place for people who are really into bikes. But cont come here looking for a quick fix for a problem. The service was extremely slow (because the volunteers and staff take a long time with each person). And youll need to invest the time to figure things out yourself.I was a little disappointed by my experience. I had a flat tire and ~90 minutes to solve the problem. I wanted to do it myself, so I figured this would be the perfect place.I asked, and the guy at the front entrance told me theyd have a spare tube I could use or purchase. I went to my work station extracted the broken tube quickly and stood around for ~10 minutes waiting for someone to go into the supply cabinet to get the inner tube for me. It wasnt clear who would be able to help me.Turns out they didnt have the tube I needed, so I ended up walking to Sports Basement instead.I like the idea of this place, and I could see myself coming back. But if its your first time, Id recommend bringing everything you need.

Freaking amazing place if you would like to learn how to tweak your bike. They had all the tools I needed for my freewheel replacement and showed me how to tighten my headset. Go Bike Kitchen!

Though not having much experience fixing a bike, I did manage to repair a relatively hard set of issues with the tools and parts available in the workshop. The volunteers working there are helpful and skilled, making my job a lot easier than otherwise would have been.

I was very excited about going to this place. But while being here, i seen how stand offish the employees were. They did not want to teach you how to fix bikes.and the customer service was terrible .im not speaking for anyone but myself.thats the way I was treated.the manger broke a piece off my bike.i told him that I would split the cost of the part that was broken, and he did not want to pay anything. I brought the part,and took the receipt to the manager(cost was $35.00) he paid me for the part but told me I could not work on my bike on their premises.i take my hat off to those who were treated fairly, but for me I did not get that luxury.

Every biker in the city should know about this place.My gears were slipping so I came in here not knowing a damn thing about bikes and left educated and empowered.The staff are volunteers, they hover around guiding newbies like myself troubleshoot problems. One thing I love about that place is that YOU get to fix the problem and Bike Kitchen provides you tools and guidance.Its $5 per visit to use their facilities or $40 for one year of unlimited visits.Also, used bike parts are available are very reasonable prices, if not free.Wonderful place!

Youll say: Wow, I didnt know I had it in me after you bring your loyal but worn out 2-wheeled back from limbo. Just remember, its not a pay-for-service bike repair shop. Its a pace where volunteers with red aprons hel you bring out the bike mechanic you never knew you had inside you. If my bike could talk, it would tell you it loves Bike Kitchen as much as I do.

Excellent shop in true San Francisco fashion. Highly recommend.

Today I realized that if u want to get thing done by your own is better to be ready, when it comes to bikes and building them is good to do some research and prove others wrong, today I knew what I was doing and having someone coming at me with a rude smartass attitude, wasting my time, telling me how things has to get done his way... I was amazed by this spot the facilities, the sercixe that they give, but having a volunteer so rude is not what I was expecting, I willing to spend some money in tool to make my own bikeworkshop, at least I made a friend another unsatisfied patron, thanks bike kitchen...
