I was feeling sorry for myself for having to endure a birthday during shelter-in-place, so I decided to take a virtual stroll down Valencia street to buy some birthday treats from some of my favorite small businesses. We had discovered this store last December during our holiday gift shopping spree, after swearing off Amazon and deciding to prioritize local businesses in our hood. The woman working in the store was awesome, giving us samples of many products and explaining how you can buy things unscented or with the scent of your choice. Fast forward to this week, with my birthday fast approaching, I jumped onto their website and treated myself to some lotion, essential oils, and a sugar scrub. The box arrived two days later, shipped for free from Oakland with a hand-written note, and in time for my birthday! The Agave and Lavender Sugar Scrub smells heavenly, and for a few hours I was transported to an imaginary spa... what a perfect way to celebrate a shelter-in-place birthday and support a local business at the same time.
