Cool music, with cool 20 somethings or maybe 30 (hard to tell with masks on) working. Next to still have a store where you can get art/craft supplies in person. Clean, good atmosphere. I went for foam board. Its so great I am going back today. Now if only I could find a photo/camera supply store on Market St.
Get lost in one of the biggest art stores in SF. There’s a good selection for most media - oils, watercolor, pastels, screen printing, miniature models, knitting, even candle making. The staff is knowledgeable - some are art students and ready to answer questions. I like how they’ll lead you to where something is located as well - like they do at Trader Joe’s.Be sure to join their loyalty club to get notified when sales and promotions are taking place.
A wonderful store with anything you might ever want as an artist. But the location sucks! There is no parking and that part of Market street is sort of derelict and empty of charm. I wish they would open a location in North Beach.
Store looked amazing but got a pen there this Friday the 29 and it doesn’t write completely like the pen is defective and I even boiled it in hot water and still doesn’t write good some words don’t catch up with the ink when I write :( would like a refund but I’m in Hayward pretty disappointed oh well.
The discount card pays for itself almost every visit to the store. Blick has been my go-to store for my painting materials since I started using conventional materials. Now that Ive been getting reasonably good prices for my work ($500-$1,000) Im experimenting with the top shelf stuff they have, and its worth it.
Very low quality online shopping experience. I ordered my art supplies “before” my classes started, and it’s been OVER A MONTH already and I did contact them about my shipping question, and they promised me it will be arrived next day today. But turns out not. bro :) I can’t even change it to pick up.
Very helpful. Ive been failing at a creative project for about 3 months and I walked into Blick only for the purpose of asking a few vague questions. Ive never been in an art supply store until today. In about 5 minutes they were able to answer important questions like the ones I didnt even know to ask. The associate walked me through my project start to finish, gave me suggestions, added clarity to what I wanted to achieve and the direction on how to get to that desired finish. The best part- the associate waited for me to do my wandering around aimlessly thing until I was ready to ask a question. He came out of nowhere and right up to me and casually asked how I was. Like two friends who happen to bump into one another at the art store. I was kind of embarrassed about the project, but he knew quite a bit about the subject, made me feel smart and that my endeavor was definitely worthy of my time and best effort. Thanks again.
The store on Market St is the absolute worst. The employees are terrible. They act as though they are bothered when you ask them for help. They are NOT friendly at all. Nor are they knowledgeable about the product they sale. Terrible experience today, and just simply wont spend any more money on a company that employs terrible people who quite obviously do not care about anything.
Amazing store for art supplies! Will feed all of your artsy cravings :) I got so blown away with all the stuff they got that I was the last customer leaving before they closed! Really grateful for all the help and thank you for taking time to help me out with setting up the rewards account as well! Will be recommending this store and coming back myself! :)
I really enjoy going into Blick. They have what I need plus some. The employees always know where to find and how to use most everything Im looking for.
The ultimate art supply store, esp for art majors
This happened a while back when I was a minor but now that I’m an adult I can’t believe they handled this so improperly. They have you put your bag behind the counter to prevent theft which is reasonable BUT they gave away my bag to a complete stranger. All my valuables were gone in an instant. Please do not come to this particular location-they will not treat your stuff with care. At the time, they told nonchalantly me (a minor) that it was just too bad. Now (as an adult) I realize how terribly they acted
Ive always found these guys to be helpful, even the security guy at the front door tries to help answering questions with what hes familiar with if no one else is available.
Very well stocked art store. I went in for block printing materials and there was a fantastic selection of lino sizes, print inks and tools. Perfect for someone just breaking into a new medium. I checked out the rest of the store and found a decent variety of watercolor paints paper and brushes. There is a much better selection of supplies on their website, but what they have in-store is still impressive. The only downside is parking and being deep in San Francisco. Im not a fan if the city to begin with, and if they had a store closer to me, outside of San Francisco, Id give them 5 stars.
Since I always seem to have the urge to express myself artistically Blick Art Materials supplies me with any medium be it acrylic, fabric, ink, pencil, or oils in order that my visions can reach a physical form. Blick carries name brand products as well as an in house Blick brand more affordable with little quality difference.
Worst store ever ... I hope this place is sued and shut down for abusive security guards, pushiness from the employees.
I was waiting on a line for ten minutes to purchase my items. Two men were in front of me. A young lady joined them cutting ahead of me. After the two men completed their purchase she began to check out her purchase. I asked her to go to the back of the line and wait but she refused, claiming to be with the men. The men came back and confirmed she was with them. I told them and the cashier that didnt make it right for her to cut ahead of me and the two people waiting behind me. She refused to go to the back of the line and the manager showed up and started opening other registers. I told him I was next and the people behind. He said he would not punish the young woman who cut the line by making her go to the back of the line. I left discarded my products and left the store. I wont shop at Blick again.
Friendly staff. Quirky artsy man in front of me they were really kind to him at the register.
I visited to get some watercolors and brushes and as always, it was a great to visit Blick. They were a bit understaffed with it being the afternoon, but I had a bright associate help me with my search for a good starter kit for watercolors. She suggested different water brush pens and masking liquids that I hadnt even considered; it was extremely helpful! And I appreciated that they were suggestions, and not advertisements! 💯
Had something printed on canvas and it came out perfectly
The most helpful Matthew was a treasure! He solved all my problems with care and charm. I don’t usually write review unless exceptional and he’s set a new bar.
A little expensive but ok
This location is great. Tim took the time to help explain the differences between a few different types of paint and the best brush to use. The staff is knowledgeable and courteous 🤗
Quality products, many from foreign countries. Spacious isles for finding and comparing products. When you really need something for art design, it is there, even online. Employees always checking isles and assisting.
I always find what I am looking for there.
Local spot for crafty individuals to grab essentials in order to express their art form. Masterpieces!
Blick is okay. They have everything a painter needs. But they only get three stars because their prices confirm that in order to make art in SF, you need to have a full time job that isnt painting. I just got a few tubs of paint and a couple other things i need and ended up getting gouged for like fifty bucks.
Amazing! The selection is incredible, and the sales people very helpful. thank you so much!
I cannot say how much I love this store and the staff here. In the best of times, when we could actually go there in person, the staff was always helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. But since the SIP order, they have blown my mind with their willingness to go above and beyond. Matthew in particular has been beyond amazing, helping hand pick colors of spray that werent on the website for a deadline I had to meet. They are 10/10, and I would buy them all Ferraris if I had the means to:))) Thats how much I love them.
Nice selection on art supplies and equipment. Especially for professionals. My brother needed drawing pads and there were so many to choose from. He was interested in markers but most were locked up . Cute trinkets while waiting at the register and they provide student discounts.
Great place!
The people who work here are quite knowledgeable, I always come out with some great pointers and tips.
Your assistant manager insinuated I was stealing when I in fact was not I was paying customer with hurt feelings
Pretty good art store with a good variety. Definitely very big and with lots of choices. A bit hard to get help but is a great option to shop at,especially if your a student of AAU. Also I love all of the cute little things they have near the cash register! Such adorable little pins and patches, sticky notes, unique pens and pencils and even earrings available and easy to browse as you wait!
Everything I shop at Blicks its a pleasure sales people are very helpful and friendly and always let me what the best deals are.
An artist needs a medium and boy howdy does this place have just about everything an artist of any skill level could need to master their craft. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful, making finding what you need a breeze. Be warned, even with a student discount its tough to walk out without buying more than what you came in for!
This place is great for all people. The staff is so nice with everything, they will help you with anything. They have everything you might need and i will totally recommend this to any artist. The things might have a high price but its worth it.
Very good
They recently had a refresh. The store looks great. Good prices on basically anything your creativity needs. I miss their sale corner though. Staff is always super helpful.
This place is a really incredible experience, and I dont regret wandering through it. However, it was pricey af, so it was totally inaccessible. I left feeling like I really wanted to do art, but also like I cant afford to do art. Leaving was a bit sad. But, if you can afford it, they have a phenomenally broad and comprehensive selection of artistry products for a store in such a densely populated area. The products covered a range of different arts and crafts activities and media, from canvas painting to model building to leather-working.The layout was aesthetic, and the staff were attentive.
One stop shopping for all art supply needs. I found 6 types of rice paper. All price points and top quality with very helpful staff that walked me to my requests.
Large art supply store in the heart of San Francisco. They have 1000s of items often multiple choices of name brands and options on many products. Maybe a nicer version of the old Pearls. Staff is friendly and helpful. Its easy to lose track of time as you wander the store. Nicely laid out with an endless selection of almost everything.
Exceptional stock that gives you so many options. Good. Place to meet student artists, actually artists of all ages. Be dope 👌 f there was a coffee shop attached to this where we could sio on coffee and work on our art late at night or anytime of the day.
Prices are a bit high... But they have a SUPER huge selection of supplies. Staff is friendly & helpful. They have students discount. NO parking. Public transportation is close by.
Im usually shopping here for supplies. The staff are very helpful and amicable. It wouldnt be just one person helping you, any one of them who passes by will greet you and/or ask if you need help. The store is pretty big compared to branches like the one in Vanness, but its easy to find everything.
Great place to buy art and craft supplies. They have some good discount too and the blick card gets you even more discounts. Im an artist and I cannot buy all that I need online, so this is a great local place for artists and designers where you can find all you need.
So well-stocked and huge, with really helpful staff (I got asked if I was finding everything ok three times, and got some outstanding advice twice when I asked for it). I have been to other Blick locations, which I love, but this one really does stand out. Seriously, there is so much stuff here! If you are curious about arts and crafts, and just want to see whats out there, dont hesitate to go here, wander around, and strike up a conversation with a wonderful staff member.
Clean and inviting. Displays could be a lot more creative since it is an art supply store. Employees are very helpful. Needs more mediums selection. Huge selection of canvases, sketch books, matting, and anything you paint or draw on but their choices of mediums are not as diverse. And needs more variation of quality in everything. I saw a lot of low and some mid quality supplies but no high quality supplies. But all in all I like Block and its staff. I would also like to see more art classes for adults and especially couples! Also they could use more jewelry making supplies like beads, findings, tools, charms, wire, silver and gold. Maybe one day we will see some of the changes I have suggested here. I hope so!
Much more here than I initially expected. Came in hunting for art materials for a child. Even up wanting to browse the aisles way more than I had time for. I will be back. Customer service was spot on providing answers to the questions we asked. Checking out was normal for an SF store. Prices were not terrible either. Blick is a good place to visit for your art supplies.
Ive recently begun purchasing new art supplies. Blick Art on Market street is relatively centrally located for me. Well the upside is friendly queer staff. Downside feeling and being policed.Pro tip ....So if you ask me if I need help and you are not going to be that person....DONT ASK if i need help if you are not going to be the person assisting. Dont follow me around the store BECAUSE Ill just get my steps in and not purchase anything.
Great selection. Super helpful and friendly staff. Even when they dont have something they can tell you where to find it.
I looked slighty lost (but thats just my default facial expression) and the attendant was very keen and offered help right away. Everything was organized and the entire store was clean. Staff was warm and welcoming. I just wish the store carried as much variety as the online shop.
There are a variety of art and craft supplies available in here. Specifically, if you dont know what you are looking for but need inspiration it is a good place to stroll around for materials that would bounce off some ideas and get you out of the creativity block
Love the cleanliness how organized the store was. Everything to keep one busy. Inexpensive.
Great range of art and craft materials. Student discounts available. Staff are helpful and truthful (for example, one staff member helped us find the cardstock we were looking for and also told us it would be cheaper at Office Depot if we were buying in bulk). The check-out tends to move pretty slowly - I always wait about 5 to 10 minutes before getting served.
The store had essentially every kind of art supply you could imagine. When I went I was expecting insane markups but was surprised; some items were cheaper in store than on Amazon. Im no artist, but I was blown away by the sheer size of selection for pencils, brushes, and paints. Additionally, staff were kind and helpful when we had questions.
The market street store in San Francisco is perpetually understaffed. I go there weekly and always wait between 5 and 10 minutes to check out. There will be several employees stocking and only one person at checkout with 10 people waiting in line. One day the manager was behind the counter with another employee laughing and joking and the was a long line and only one person tending to customers. I call frequently to check stock before visiting and I always get put on hold and no one ever picks up the call again. Utrecht on Van Ness has an awesome staff and they are very attentive but they just dont have sufficient stock. If they did, I would never go to Blick on market st.!
These folks are always so amazing and helpful. The store is well stocked and reasonably priced. Would recommend it for the service experience alone. Its so convenient to transit so always easy to pop in if you get the crafty urge.
Always a friendly and helpful staff member at hand. You can tell people are interested in their customers artistic efforts.
Love this place... But you really need to know your stuff. It can be a bit overwhelming... Just so much awesome! Staff is great but always busy... You just have to be patient & wait your turn. Or go in already knowing what you want.... IT IS NOT HOBBY LOBBY ( Ick! & thank God)
Amazing customer service, I came in on Christmas Eve and despite all of the last minute shoppers, multiple sales associates took their time to help me with my meticulous questions and needs. The sales were great and I plan on coming back very soon as i now am a preferred customer, Yee!
I love the art place with everything. Its a little pricey but... Needful things.
Very comprehensive art store you can find anything here. The people that work there are very helpful and full of knowledge.I wish their website was a bit more user friendly. Specially for beginners who dont know brands by heart.
This store is massive filled with all kinds of art supplies. The decor on the outside is very decorative and creative. The staff are very knowledgeable as others have stated and extremely helpful as well. It really was a pleasure to walk around this store and shop.
Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. The cost is a bit on the pricier side, but the employees consistently deliver excellent customer service making Blick my one stop art shop
This is truly an art supply store. I felt like a kid in a candy shop. There is open stock so you can stay within budget to test out a new product or buy a whole set at a really good discounted price. The staff really knows their stuff.
Great selection and a helpful staff, maybe not always knowledgeable, but theyre willing to help
If you are an artist or you need specific kinds of art supplies, just come to this store. They have everything you need and they have the best crew to give you a wonderful experience. If they dont have what youre looking for, they will give you the solution or they will recommend the place to find it.
Very entertaining, yet you can find all types of arts and crafts as well as paints and materials. Love the handbags. Very durable.
Huge selection for art and handicrafts. Service and recommendations are always great. If I need something for an art project of any kind, this is my go to place!
Went with my daughter for her art project and the staff was polite and they had everything my daughter needed for art supplies..
In an age where brick and mortar art stores are being run out of business, this place is still around. They have every kind of art supply you can think of. Some great deals and located right in the bus line in market street. R
I dont think these are discount materials, but theres an enormous selection and an enthusiastic and informed staff. Please support the presence of art supplies in local retail areas by going there in person and buying something. These places are more and more rare, and given the central importance of art and creative handiwork at any level, please help preserve civilization in the best qualities of people by getting supplies here.
The staff were very friendly and didnt make me feel like I was wandering around too much like some shops do. I get it, but.... Anyways this place is like Toys r us for creative people. And I got a compliment on my Mr. Bungle shirt! Hell yeah Five Stars ⚠️
We love this place. They have everything for your crafts or art. This place is much better then Michaels
Amazing art store. Cant beat the prices and selection. Worth driving up to the city to visit.
Amazing selection of supplies for artists from the professionals to novices. Very helpful staff and a beautiful store. Although it seems that Blick offers better prices on some of these items at its online outlet.
I had to draw tombstones for Halloween, found what I needed at the prices I wanted to spend. Staff were extremely helpful. I love this store. It is always my go to for art supplies.
Love love love this store. Its always a thrill to find some new medium to work with. I Enjoy looking at everything and there is always some one with the right answer there to help and with the right answer.
This is my favorite store to buy art supplies in San Francisco. You can find everything you need: huge selection of markers, pens, watercolors, acrylic and oil paints. You can touch and try almost everything. Also I like their small section with art books, I always find something interesting and inspiring there. Whenever I come to this store I buy more than I planned :).
Loved it. Full of stuff I dreamed to purchase. I travelled across the continent to get here. They have so much to choose from except one thing they didnt have. Staff were kind and went out of their way for me. Good job guys!
I love art every one should love creative art it will enhances your creative drain
Love this place. Wide selection of products and their staff is very helpful
This store totally rocks if you are an artistic type or just appreciate Art as a hobby. I went to get pen refills there & stationary and see that they have everything from major Art supplies to fun little knick knacks for kids. Fun, fun.
Excellent for buying art materials. Things are not that cheap but they have good quality. Staff are nice and good customer service.
Good source of information and supplies when you arent getting what you need from Amazon.
Great store- staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about products without being pushy. There is a large array of of products from canvases, paint and brushes all the way down to wrapping paper anything they dont have they seem very willing to help you get them. It has always been an enjoyable experience to go there and something I very much look forward too.
This store has everything you might need as an artist. Good people working here too, very friendly atmosphere.
