Days later, I’m still disgusted with myself for actually buying something here & supporting this business. I don’t even think the pieces I bought were worth that. The owner was absolutely insufferable and I’m assuming that’s why every other employee in the store was pretty hostile and rude, too. As somebody who has collected vintage for many years, I’ve never encountered anyone this dreadfully arrogant. It makes me so sad to think of all the people who have been run out of this store even faster than I was by the terrible attitudes.I get it, you don’t want a bunch of tourists being rough with your fragile clothes…neither does any other vintage clothing store in the upper Haight. Somehow they’re surviving without treating people with condescension. The employees must be so on edge…I heard the way the owner talked to them with such disrespect. Surprised a place like this still exists, especially here in SF. It’s people like this that give a bad name to the vintage community. Give your money to inclusive, kind, down to earth small sellers instead. I never write reviews, but I’m writing this so those of you that are visiting don’t waste your precious time in this beautiful city here. It has so much more to offer.
I was excited to visit this store, but it left such a terrible taste in my mouth. I didn’t see the sign that says no photos without permission and made the mistake of taking a photo of a vintage Dior hat. A blonde woman asked what I was doing and I said taking a photo of the hat. She proceeded to scold me and ask if I was a designer looking to rip off jewelry designs. I said no, I’m just a tourist and apologized because I didn’t see the sign. She finished the conversation by saying, “that’s fine. We had our conversation, so go on.” I planned on buying something but immediately left. Would not recommend coming here. There are plenty of other vintage stores in the area that are actually nice to their customers.
Pricey but full of really special and unique items! a little annoying that we have to wear plastic gloves inside (i like to feel fabrics) but i get it
Wow we saw some outfits for sale that were over 100 years old. This is a great store....
The owner of this place was insufferable and rude. She wouldn’t let my 17 year old sister try on a skirt and snapped, “there’s no way you have a 28” waist!” Imagine saying that to a high school student.
I would suggest NEVER stepping foot into this store. the man “helping” customers up at the front was INCREDIBLY rude to my friend who i was traveling with. we were out of state and heard about this vintage shop through tiktok and were excited to go. upon entering we asked very simple questions but were met with attitude. DO NOT GO INTO THIS STORE.
Guy at the front door letting people in and out was incredibly rude and on a power trip of some sort. I refuse to support a business that treats its customers this way, especially when there are many better options on the same street just a block or two away. Save yourself some time and go somewhere else.
The little old blonde lady running this store is a thief. I bought a shirt that was tagged $11. Sales tax in San Francisco is 8.6% which would be $0.95, for a total sale of $11.95. Tell me why this woman ripped the tag off my shirt, hid it in her hands, and charged me $16 instead. She wouldn’t show me the tag and upcharged me when I know exactly how much that shirt was supposed to cost. She lacks the care and customer service skills that a retail worker should have. And she lacks the integrity and grace that a woman should carry. She’s just a sad old woman that has to steal from people to keep herself afloat. Do not give this woman your business. There is a nice goodwill down the street and plenty of other stores in the nearby area that won’t steal from you :)
If you’re black, you may want to go elsewhere. They have an interesting selection of clothes but you won’t be able to look at them without being racially profiled and followed around the store.
Disrespect and rude. He violated an ADA Law which is unacceptable and was also discriminating us .
Hands down one of the rudest places Ive ever shopped in, and thats saying something considering I lived in Paris. Some of the clothes are indeed gorgeous, but the overall experience squeezes out any joy to be had. My experience is so bad that Im here posting a review nearly two years after I moved from SF as a service to all of you who are doing your homework about this enticing place with a nasty, nasty vibe.Notorious among locals during my ten year stay in the city, the owner has turned her concern for shopper behaviour into an excuse for utter nastiness. Staff there made exclusive velvet rope bouncers seem like Mister Rogers, with a snottiness that just doesnt fit with the Haights historic vibe. Theyve been lucky to have transient tourists and media costuming budgets to sustain them. If they relied on the locals, theyd have closed long ago.Id rather go to a place that celebrates peoples joys rather than plays into the owners impatience, social stratification, and (valid!) fears. Its such a shame, because theres much joy for the taking with the excellent clothes theyve curated.
Thank you to the nice lady who helped me find what I was looking for. The men who were working were extremely committed to their conversation about their sick time hours to the point of interrupting her from helping me. Im a little salty about it.
Really cool place lots of fun clothes can’t wait to come back next time i’m in sf
Loved this place! It has really wonderful, unique accessories and clothes. Some of the clothes tho, arent all that great, not my style but majority of it was good!
Nasty woman who I presume is the owner or manager had the ugliest shaming attitude towards myself and seemingly many other customers. I was looking for something semi-particular and despite wanting to browse in the mean time she gave me the most condescending advice that I was looking in the wrong place. Go visit if you’re a tourist but I would NOT recommend spending much time or money investing in these over priced pieces from a joyless soulless crone.
Beautiful store - if you are into vintage clothing, this is an interesting visit. HOWEVER - I wouldnt recommend it as a place to purchase things. The prices are high+ and Ive noted damage on some items with high tags. Prices in general are just silly high. Also, although some items are marked with measurements, many are not.The thing that makes this store truly average is the lack of service. For a high tag, I would think theyd be more gracious. Ive visited here repeatedly, sometimes in vintage clothing, and only on my last visit - on my way out - did a salesperson greet me. I dislike this kind of general snobbery. You can be as expensive as you like, but this attitude is troubling. On Haight, I would recommend Relic Vintage first and foremost for quality, service and price ( not inexpensive, but WORTH the price). Secondly, Wasteland for sheer volume.
Went there with an interest in doing research for the 1930s as well as buy a pair of shoes for my sisters birthday and when I asked the older woman who I assume was the owner for assistance, she tells me to leave as I had no business here since there was nothing for my physique even though I made it clear I was looking for a particular item. Completely unprofessional and lack of disregard towards customers, its a miracle with how much Haight has changed over the past five years that this store still had business. A perfect example of never judging a book by its fashionable cover.
My family and i went to this store yesterday for my birthday and are NEVER going back. The store smells like the great depression and the owner was a disrespectful brute, the clothes in the store where just as old as her, my mom saw something that struck her fancy and went to check it out, the owner then told my mother that she was pulling on the coat but she merely touched the sleeve. My mom told the woman she wasnt pulling it and the owner responded with the movement of your hand said you where. I told my mom we gotta go and that the lady was an arrogant b*tchNever going back EVER again
Cecily wouldnt have this business for as long as shes had if she didnt know what she was doing. A diligent business woman with a big heart. I hope she gets to retire happily within the next few years. She deserves it and the neighborhood has changed quite a bit. Time for a new start. Im happy to have left good pieces from my own collection with her.
Its a really cool place to go and look around, but you do need to be careful. The owner is very passionate about her clothing and with reason. Some of the stuff in there is 100-120 years old. While the staff can sometimes be cranky (espically in tourist season for which I dont blame them) many are very nice and can answer your questions.General rules, try to touch as little as possible to preserve garments. Know that this isnt a store where youre going to get to try things on unless youre seriously thinking about buying it. and lastly, respect when the staff says that you cannot try something on because of the size. They arent trying to insult you but the clothing is delicate and materials that old do not stretch. If its not gonna fit, its REALLY not gonna fit.It doesnt take a genius to have a good interaction there.
Cool place, so much variety of things from different eras. They let you try on stuff too! Practically a museum, you forget that its an actual store!
Made a big mistake by going into this store. I touched the sleeve of a garment and was loudly and rudely read the riot act by an older blonde lady. And I use the term lady very loosely here!!! She was a total b*#$@!!! She chastised me in front of the whole store. She pointed to a sign and asked if I underdstood about the statement not to yank on the clothing? She went on and on as we walked away. Even my 11 year old thought she had an issue. Will never return to this business. Customer service is the worst I have ever experienced in my 56 years on this planet. If there was a way to give zero stars I would!!!
Absolutely fascinating and done if the jewels of the retro dressers actually are pretty cheap. The owner is a legend herself - right out of 60s hippie paradise.
Extremely rude employees
Absolutely the worst treatment by a store owner I have ever received. I love and frequently purchase 20s era fashion and I entered this store very excited to discover new finds. I was holding a dress--by the hanger only-- and this woman suddenly started yelling at me to only use the hanger and sarcastically asked if I understood how old the dress was. I confusedly told her I thought I was being careful, but would try to be more careful. A few minutes later I heard her shout across the busy store to an employee Shes heading to my Victorian section, get over there. At first I was uncertain if it was in reference to me, or if someone near me needed assistance. I moved towards the center of the store and was trying to decide which beaded dress to buy and I heard her AGAIN say very loudly The one with the pink jacket. Get over there and watch her. I was shocked. I was extremely careful with the merchandise, I collect vintage clothing and revere it, and I am well aware how careful one must be. Which I was doing. The items I was looking at were not even expensive, so beyond being rude and insulting, her reaction was disproportionate to the value of the items. I approached her and asked her why she told the employee to follow me around. She lied and said she didnt. I told her I heard her describe me. She changed her story and then claimed I was mishandling the merchandise, rubbing my hands all over it, and informed me she pays 40,000 a month for the store and had to be there at 5 am to spot clean the clothing from people like me. Just....wow. I could not believe anybody would treat a customer that way. I immediately left the store. Upon reaching the exit, an employee quietly apologised to me for how I was treated and told me that she does that to people all the time. I appreciated that she made a point to be kind, as I was very upset and embarrassed about how the owner treated me in front of many other customers and in front of my out of town guests. I am local and I spend a lot on vintage clothing, money she will never see from me. Ill shop elsewhere. Be prepared to be attacked and barraged if you decide to go there. Id recommend you go somewhere else. Anywhere else. Just not there.
This place has the best selection of authentic vintage clothing on Haight. Its pricey, but thats because the pieces are vintage one-of-a-kind and very well taken care of. The owner can be rude if you rub her the wrong way, and yet shes amazingly helpful if she knows youre really shopping and not just trying things on for no reason.
Wow! What a neat and fun place! It feels like it should be a museum of fashion. LOVED IT and will definitely come back.
Clothes Shaming is what I received at Decades of Fashion. I was shopping with my daughter this week. The older lady who I assume was the manager/owner was extremely rude to me. I was looking for the size of some dresses and she approached me and said in a seemingly kind may I help you, and then proceeded to tell me that I was to handle the items by the hanger ONLY and if all 500 customers a day handled the clothes like I did, she would be up all night fixing them. Wow! With that kind of condescending attitude, I was not going to spend any money in that store! Hey lady, your store is on Haight street not Rodeo drive!
While I really liked the clothes I bought here and store associate was really friendly, the owner was not friendly. I bought a top that was marked $19 and she insisted that it was $29 at checkout. I still bought the top but will not be going back.
The old lady working was ridiculously rude to us and the kids. They lack knowledge of real vintage and shes lost four more customers due to the terrible customer service, unhealthy qualility of everything and ridiculous prices. Would never recommend.
Poor customer service. Did not feel welcomed there. You’re better off going somewhere else.
Lots of vintage clothing for 1920s parties. Pretty helpful staff. Lots of really cool dresses made by one of the associates who works there.
If you love vintage coming here is a must. Vintage clothing, apparel and accessories divided by decade. Good prices if you have a good eye.
Fascinating! Great collection of clothing, jewelry, shoes, and accesories. An interesting browse.
The folks went above and beyond in helping find YOU...most awesome boutique Ive been in years!!! Still need that hat...
Upon entry, it feels like youre walking into a time machine & there might be no way out. It can get very stuffy & anticlimatic in there. Their wide range of clothes & accessories mostly span from the early decades-1920s to the 1970s. I do recommend this place for those who are looking for vintage cowboy boots. They have a nice selection & their boots look to be clean & in good shape. The owner was unapproachable & slightly cold at first when i asked her a few questions. She then became friendlier when i made a purchase.
Being followed around by the staff as if they fear I might nick something, despite my straight edge appearance, while they wear monocles and strange hats is an odd and enjoyable experience. Would go again.
So I went into this shop and it is really beautiful but the owner Ciscly is very rude & unprofessional. As a young African-American woman, I dont like being followed around. Whenever I go into a store, I spend my $$. Ciscly shouldnt do that, your store is beautiful but your attitude sucks. If you are going to shop here, please make sure you dont have an attitude because this lady has the nastiest attitude Ive ever seen
This huge mall of vintage clothes is amazing. Great old stuff will keep you digging through it all for hours.
L just came back from shopping for vintage clothing in the Haight. I decided to go to Decades of Fashion first. Although there is endless stuff to pick through with an array of really cool choices, I will never go into this shop again. I must have spent at least 10 minutes before anyone asked if I needed any help. Two employees were busy discussing the current stock and did not even look me in the eye to acknowledge my being in the store; while, two other employees were way to busy discussing personal stuff and did not even look up when I walked past them. I finally ask the latter female employee about a particular item. I need to back up a bit, when I walked up to her counter, she asked me, Can I help you? This was asked in a curt slur. When I explained to her what I was looking for, she cut me off and corrected me in a school teacher to child way and in an aggravated manner walked me over to the section of merchandise that was NOT what I was asking about. She walked away and proceeded to continue the personal conversation with her co-worker. I immediately left the shop. I walked up two blocks to La Rosa was greeted by a very pleasant and knowledgeable woman, who during our interaction together not only helped me pick out what I was seeking, she also suggested a really cute shirt to go along with the shorts. In other words, she made an extra $75 on top of the $100 I was already willing to pay. One person made a good sale for the day for her shop, while the other made a big fat ZERO. Part of the shopping experience for me is to enjoy the environment. I realize that Decades of Fashions stock of merchandise is the vintage stuff I am looking to buy, but I do not need to be treated as if I walked up to window #2 at the DMV. When I have the urge to purchase vintage garments, I will either go to La Rosa or simply sit at home to go on ebay.
Funky spot! Got my wife 2 turquoise rings there that she wears every day and absolutely loves!
Vintage clothes ordered by decade and style. They even have full on costumes. Awesome place.
My mom and I visited this store about 3 years ago and I still remember how rude the staff and owner were. My mom was looking for a vintage letter opener. When we asked an employee if they had any, she heaved a sigh, walked to the back of the store where the owner was behind a counter, and said Can you help these people? The owner then made us wait 10 minutes while she went to the back room to do something else. She showed us a letter opener and when my mom asked if it was real ivory, which is totally plausible considering she was fined for selling endangered furs, she laughed and snidely said it was just plastic. $40 for a plastic letter opener? Not only do they act like you are not worth their time but the pieces are overpriced, especially given the quality. I understand vintage clothing is worn but $100 for a suede fringe jacket with a huge stain on the front is ridiculous in my opinion.
Came in looking like a peasant farmer, came out like a flamboyant vintage circus ringmaster. Mission accomplished.
The woman who owns this store is incredibly rude. I will never support this business and encourage everyone to save themselves a negative experience by staying far away.
I had to come visit this shop but was disappointed by their bland overpriced selection of vintage. As a vintage dealer and collector myself, I would never encourage the rude and unpleaseant mannerism of the owner. I dont know how she does it but she trully lives up to this reputation. Take your business elsewhere if you trully want to shop and enjoy your time without being reminded by the owner that the garments are just as old as her haggard self.
Decades Of Fashion is the best overall vintage store in sanfrancisco. They have it all. Its a beautiful store!!! Decades of Fashion is open at 20% capacity. They are following the required mask, and a social distancing rules. Business hours are Wednesday thru sunday 12pm to 6pm.Better yet theres a big sale.Everythings been marked down!
Very cool retro store in the heart of haight-ashbury
If I was so much cooler than I am right now and made way cooler art than I do now, this is exactly where it would hang. I wish I was the walrus. Goo goo gjoob.
Lots of interesting and unique clothes and garments.
Amazing amount of stuff, but theyll kick you out if you carry a drink in, and they could be a little nicer about that.
The owner appears to have a st!#k shoved up her butt. Amusing to say the most for a women her age. The selection of goods is also overpriced. Not worth it if youre a tourist. Walk a few steps down and youll find better priced vintage.
Rude rude rude staff and owner. As someone that wears vintage clothing I was surprised at how poorly I was treated, especially considering my desire to purchase their inventory. Snobby and stuck up. I highly recommend walking 30 seconds down the street and giving your business to Relic vintage.
The Miss Havisham inspired owner is abusive and hostile, screaming and yelling that customers are ruining her crappy clothes, are too fat for her items, and are too dirty and irresponsible to handle her worn out junk. Nothing worth seeing there but aging rot (and the items for sale arent so great either 😂)
As a vintage dealer and collector I was excited to browse this shop. Upon walking in the owner told me my hands were dirty and to only touch the hangers. Funny, as a major germaphobe, Im convinced my hands are probably more clean than most but ok I get it, you dont want people touching the clothes. The racks were filled to an uncomfortable capacity to only touch the hangers I could see she had some gorgeous items but I was rather turned off from buying anything due to her rudeness.I was also turned off by her treatment of her staff which in turn made them not as pleasant either. In closing if you want to shop here, be sure to wear white gloves and prepare for snobbery. Me, Ill be taking my business elsewhere,
Very interesting clothes, jewelry and shoes from past 50 years.
Great place to find original costumes organized into decades.
When I went there, the owner came up to me and my friend and told us we couldnt fit into a dress that we were holding and basically told us we were to fat for it and was afraid we would rip the dress. We werent even expressing that we wanted to try it on. We were simply holding it and commenting that it was cute. She said all of this very loudly in front of my 9 year old cousin who now Im scared thinks that you have to ask permission to even hold a dress due to your body size. The worst experience of my life and I will never go back. Not only did she embarass us but also upset and confused my 9 year old cousin who is just starting to reach that delete part of a girls life were they become self foncious of their body in general. The owner is a rude, small minded woman who has illusions of importance. The clothes were vute, but not cute enough to give my money to a cruel washed up woman.
So much beautiful stuff. Vision overload
So cool!! Not enough words. Come here with HOURS to browse.
Used clothing. Cowboy boots were cool
Very cool goods. Little high priced though
Gorgeous store with authentic vintage clothing from many decades.
Lots of amazing clothes and styles, but it’s very overpriced and I didn’t even get acknowledged by the 3 staff members I passed whilst walking around (one of which was eating their lunch on a glass jewellery display cabinet)
Awesome selection but like everyone else has stated, CS stinks. think theyd read a review once in awhile.
Very nicely organized
A must see! Some what like a museum but you can buy. I was in there for about an hour just looking. A bit expensive. A blast from the past😄
Honestly the staff is so rude it’s not worth your time
This store has a small section of 1920s clothing to rent that is overpriced. The prices to rent is the price that I can purchase the items elsewhere for the rental. What a waist of time!
My favorite store in the Haight
Very good choice of clothes but the owner is also very unpleasant and unfriendly
Fun
Cute outfits
The owner is very rude.
🎩🎩🎩
You can find a vast collection of wedding dresses and numerous vintage dresses from the hippie style to the bon ton style ..
Come to visit San Francisco, I came across this shop that I absolutely adored !!! Full of clothes classified by centuries and being a big fan of the 20s I could see dresses from this time! Also the store has a super stock of accessories that allow you to compose an outfit from head to toe!If I go back to SF, I will come back to visit this shop. (too bad I couldnt buy because the price was a bit expensive and no place in the suitcase.)Awesome Vintage Shop in SF !! Id Liked clothes from the 20th Century (especially dresses-but too expensive). I wish I could come back for my Next visit in SF!Cheers!
Worth a visit
Very nice to hunt for beautiful second-hand clothes in the USA
Great. You have everything to choose from.
