Never would I have thought I would feel compelled to write a glowing review for a mechanic - but A+ did such an amazing job. I have a tough car - ‘87 samurai - very old and in need of TLC, difficult to source parts AND I was limited in my desire to invest a ton of money.Justin and his team were so amazing - they were thorough in a way I’ve never seen from another mechanic - they broke down what needed to get done, what I should do but could wait on, etc. when a fix got expensive - they would outline various options/scenarios and on more than one occasion quoted me more than the cost ended up being.I know little to nothing about cars and usually leave the mechanic feeling a little taken advantage of due to the information asymmetry but at every step I felt informed and like a partner in the situation. Could not recommend enough.

This was my first time getting my car serviced so I had some silly questions, but they answered professionally and straight to the point. I was also nervous about getting up-charged; as a young woman, I have heard this is a problem in the auto industry. But I got all of the necessary fixes done— no more no less— at a fair price. One of the best service experiences I can recall for any car service. Professional and consultative, always providing updates. Manny picked up our van from our home (not driven for a year), and he later returned a van looking like it just came from the showroom. Justin was helpful and available throughout, and he handled all details without me leaving my house. Very happy and look forward to long term service relationship.

This place has really excellent service. Took my 2000 Honda Accord here on the recommendation of the previous owner. The car had many issues, including fading brakes, a mysterious air bag light, and various dirty fluids. It needed a lot of work. They did a full diagnostic, and then I received the most thorough report Ive ever gotten from a mechanic. I was working with Justin, who reviewed each diagnosed item over the phone with me. Though my knowledge of cars is pretty weak so it was hard to judge, Justin seemed honest, competent, and credible. He ranked the identified service items into A/B/C priority and quoted prices for each, and left it open where it couldnt be known (the airbag light required additional diagnostics). No pressure for unnecessary work. In the end they identified the airbag light as coming from a failing Honda sensor under a lifetime warranty, and they took it to the nearby Honda dealership for me where it was fixed for free! Overall very pleasant experience. The full suite of repairs wasnt cheap, and I dont know what it wouldve cost if I went somewhere else, but the service was definitely way better than Ive had from previous mechanics.
We felt so confident that they knew how to care for our car and trusted their recommendations. They were communicative throughout the process as we dealt with an attempted catalytic converter theft and gave us a very fair price, so we decided to ask them to conduct a full diagnostic on the car. They assured us that some areas of concern were not needing replacement at this time and recommended others while providing pros And cons of doing so. Easy processes for updates, payment, and pickup

They were super responsive even when I reached out after work hours and went over and above verifying that the problem with my vehicle was covered under warranty and then even checked in on me when my car was getting towed to the dealership… my whole family takes their cars to A+! I highly recommend them :)

I worked with Seamus and the whole process couldn’t have been smoother. It seems like A+ obviously values people who can interact with customers courteously. Everyone I met with was polite and helpful. Maybe that sounds over the top but I had really gotten used to terrible customer service with other auto repair shops, so it was a nice change of pace. They finished replacing my rotors and pads way ahead of schedule and I’m quite happy with the job they’ve done
It was my first time having the car checked since I moved here recently so I found them through Yelp. I have to say they offer an excellent service.I got a quote on the phone and got an appointment sooner than expected.They also offer free pick up and delivery of the car, which was super convenient since I only have one car.Naeem was the one checkering the car. He was super friendly, updated me on when he would check the car, sent a super detailed report and explained later on the phone.Adrien was the guy who picked up and delivered the car. I have to say he was EXCELLENT: courteous, friendly, also called before coming so I could be ready and sanitized everything before returning the car.I am super happy to have chosen them and I would definitely repeat and recommend them to my friends.

The people and service here is beyond comparison. Justin is friendly and professional and pays attention to the details. He kept me informed on the status even through the weekend and explained the diagnosis to me clearly. When ultimately I decided not to complete the repair and instead opt for a riskier alternative, he spent time on the phone to share his expertise and advice. He was very generous and I know Ill be back here if I need anything. I highly reccomend choosing this family owned business. The energy caught me off guard! My previous goto (large corp) changed locations and people, and the service declined dramatically. Its so different going to a place where people seem legitimately happy to be there and take pride in what they do.
Tl;dr: if youre reading the reviews to try and decide whether to work with A+, absolutely go for it!Id been putting off taking my car for maintenance for NO idea how long because I know next to nothing about cars and the process freaks me out. But -- and I cant believe Im saying this -- the experience at A+ Japanese Auto Repair actually makes me look *forward* to my next service.The folks at A+ made the process as painless as possible. The pick-up and drop-off services alone were worth it: efficient, contact-free, and a huge relief so I could do other things instead of riding back and forth in a Lyft (though A+ does offer a shuttle service! That perk is new to me but will definitely take advantage of it in the future!).Everyone I worked with -- Seamus, Eric, and Justin -- was kind and communicative. Seamus in particular walked me through the maintenance report when I was overwhelmed and made it digestible and CLEAR. I did not feel at a disadvantage despite having no background knowledge. Great experience here. Justin and crew really took care of my Hyundai after I hit a pothole on 101. I highly recommend anyone who needs help with their car to check out this shop.They worked with my insurance company to lower my out of pocket expenses which was a nice touch. Most shops wont help you out like that (at least in my experience).

The guys here know what they are doing and are very friendly but their methods are a bit flawed in my opinion.I brought my car in for a transmission issue and after a pricey $400 diagnostic I was told that they could replace the whole valve body for $2800 which is more than half of what my car costs. It would have been cheaper to install a whole new transmission. I thought they did not have to replace the whole valve body and just replace one piece of it. They said that that was not possible and they would not consider even doing it. I ended up doing the impossible repair myself which cost me about $200, half of which was just the transmission fluid. Car works fine and I did not replace the whole valve body.I am disappointed that they would not consider alternate options. They also refused to not use oem parts. I understand they have a reputation to uphold but I wish they would help the customer by using a far cheaper option.
Justin and the crew at A+ Japanese Auto Repair are top-notch and gave me and my 2006 4Runner excellent service! They were very fast to diagnose, understand, and fix the problems. The A+ in their name is exceptionally deserved and they have my ongoing business from here on out.Importantly, and I cant stress this enough, is the quick trust and relationship they built. I felt like they were treating the repair as if they were dropping their car off at another repair shop - not just suggesting every repair under the sun to increase the costs. Justin would call before doing any major further work (potentially costly repairs) and offer alternative solutions to try to avoid major repair. It worked and we avoided any significant repairs and then they followed up a few days after repair to ensure the car is running great.
Ive been coming to them for the last 3 years or so and its been a great experience every time. Justin is super helpful and Ive come to fully trust his advice - not something easy to say about a mechanic shop. He makes sure to explain whats going on with the car, and always offers economic choices when available. They deliver quality work, on time, and with a high degree of professionalism. I’m convinced most of these 5-star reviews are paid for. No way! I have taken my old Celica here before a few times and now my Tacoma. I thought last time was an anomaly.They always charge way too much and try to perform unnecessary work. I am planning to report them to the Bureau of Automotive Repair. This time they replaced a thermostat housing that is not a failed part. It’s a solid aluminum piece. They only needed to replace a stripped stud, then fill and pressure test my radiator. Nothing more.Almost $500 for a $150 job and they still didn’t give me a running vehicle. I have to put the battery back and fill and burp my own radiator. They didn’t even pressure test the system which is only responsible.I went to High School with the owner and he doesn’t care that he runs a very shady business. Good thing most of his customer don’t know any better. Tech folks don’t know what they are getting or not getting. What goes around comes around Erik! Sevim!

Prompt service. They try not to oversell repairs and provide good advice on what you vehicle needs right now. They have recently upgraded to a notification service that sends you updates (with images) as your vehicle is inspected, lists possible problems and what the consequences are. Excellent service and utmost professionalism from start to finish. I took my newly-purchased used car in for an inspection, and they found items that the dealership missed! They promptly sent me a very detailed inspection report, with pictures and recommendations. They even helped me communicate the repair costs to the dealership.Throughout the whole process, Naeem (the service consultant) was extremely patient and helpful that I didnt feel alone or helpless (two things I as a woman often feel when it comes to car stuff). After moving back to the Bay, it was time to find a new auto shop and I feel so incredibly lucky to have found A+ Japanese Auto Repair on Yelp. Gave them a quick call and set up an appointment for the next morning. I was greeted with some of the best customer service I have experienced, and they were extremely conscious of keeping their customers and staff’s health a priority by following all CDC and state safety protocol. Jason was very helpful in communicating all info over the phone, and keeping me updated on my car’s progress. The techs here were even so great as to find and fix a damaged part that I had not even known about. I got a call and they let me know they could do the additional repair with no additional labor cost, just the cost of a new part. Jason and his team are professional, transparent, and compassionate, and I can’t recommend them enough to anyone who might feel left in the dark or nervous about taking their car in.

I had a great experience with A+ Japanese Auto Repair!I had a check engine light on and needed the issue fixed to pass a state inspection. They took my car the same day and even paid for my Lyft home. They found the issue and sent me a very easy to understand diagnostic report online. Everything was very transparent - they talked me though the report and outlined what it would cost to fix it. There wasnt a lot of upselling, which Ive found to be very common in the industry. Justin was a total straight shooter, I really appreciated that.They had to order a part for the repair, which ended up getting delayed by the delivery company. They gave me a courtesy vehicle to use free of charge until my vehicle was ready. Communication throughout the process was great and I was really happy with the work that was done.TLDR; These guys are friendly, professional, and fair. I would 100% recommend them if you need to have some work done.
I have been getting my car (2016 Honda Civic) serviced here since 2020.A+ Japanese Auto Repair does everything you would expect a professional dealership to do - but better, quicker, and with far improved customer service. One of my big regrets has been getting my services done at Primo Honda right across the street for my first few years of ownership.About an hour ago, I drove to their shop to get a leak in my front passenger tire checked out. It was raining outside, and given that it looked like they had at least a dozen or more cars lined up, either on lifts or waiting to be serviced, I expected it would take some time, especially as I was a drop-in, with no prior appointment.A kind man working there named Jouse saw that I was waiting outside in the rain and didnt want me to wait outside for too long in the weather. He helped remove a huge nail from the tire and patched it up within minutes!I owe him and Doug, my main service writer (who I have worked with before and always had great experiences with), huge thanks. They helped me patch up my leaky tire incredibly quickly, and I am grateful that they were so kind as to help me despite what looked like a very busy workload.Jouse and Doug, you have my sincere appreciation. I brought in my 16 year Infiniti to do an oil change and check the engine as I had heard a weird noise recently. Justin was extremely helpful and easy to work with. After the quote (very fair price) came in for how much I needed to pay for repairs (spark plugs, driving belts, etc), my husband and I decided it was time to not invest any more into this car as we have a relatively young car already at home and might be looking into getting a new car in the near future. We let Justin know we didnt want to move forward with all the repairs, Justin gave us a call back and let us know he had a buyer for the car and negotiated a price for us. We are so glad with how things worked out! Well definitely be visiting them again for any future car needs.

It needed a lot of work and over the last few months and it drives like a new car. Justin kept me informed every step of the way! The catalytic converter had failed and he called around for days to find an after market one to save me money. My social security doesn’t go very far. I am so appreciative for his time and effort! Ive owned something like 28 cars in 30 something (mumble mumble) years. In all that time, I have never experienced service like this. Justin Mills and A+ Japanese Auto Repair are in a league of their own. Constant communication - clear explanations - battled insurance for me - quick repairs. Seriously, never experienced anything like this. Especially because I took it to a Subaru dealer first and they quoted $1000+ to fix the wrong thing . AND Subaru was confident that insurance wouldnt touch it. They were wrong again. As a teacher, an A+ really means something, and this place gets the A+ for sure.

We had a variety of different issues on our Honda pilot with 100 K miles. Each issue was addressed separately with photographs presented to us online. Then we had a detailed conversation of what we needed to fix immediately and what we could put off until a later date. We saved a ton of money at A+ Japanese auto repair as opposed to going to the dealer to get our car fixed. Justin and Jason are super trustworthy and a pleasure to deal with. When our car needs assistance I will take it there again!
Have a 2005 Prius where I swapped out the hybrid battery for a new one but didnt have the proper torque wrench for the 8mm bus bar nuts. Dropped by A+ and Zach quickly checked the torque on the nuts I removed during the process. I was getting ready to pay time for time but Doug didnt charge me anything! I didnt have cash so I owe you one Zach!

He identified potential issues with my car, and made recommendations that make sense for the long-term health of the car, and facilitated my decision making on tire selection. Very great experience. Only let these highly-professional technicians touch my G37S Infiniti. They diagnosed my vehicle and found the problem I have been looking for a year now. I’m pretty strict which who touches my truck so when I first purchased it I strictly only took it to Chevrolet certified dealer shops, but once they started telling me I needed all sorts of sensors to be replaced and sold me on everything I ended up finding out everything I was sold on was a lie.So I looked somewhere else I found A+ and gave them a try, ended up being a great choice not only were they punctual they also communicated every step of the way, apart from from them being great on everything you expect when time is money they would also tell me if I actually needed to change anything or if it still had life and guess what I had no need to purchase any sensors to fix any of my problems.Thanks to Justin and the techs for all of their great work I’ve now found a reliable mechanic shop.
I went to A+ Japanese Auto Repair based on a recommendation and I was utterly shocked how awesome they were to work with on getting my cars repaired. Jason is the service advisor I mainly dealt with but, I also spoke to a couple of other service advisors and all of them were extremely professional and easy to communicate with. These guys are quick to communicate, concise and provide clear information and easily help you understand whats going on with your vehicles. I remain immensely appreciative that they would communicate to me before I even thought about having to get in touch with them to find out what was going on. So many other automotive repair places are the opposite. I will for certain be taking my cars to A+ Japanese Auto Repair for all my future repair needs. Naeem and Zack were extremely helpful in identifying potential issues with a used vehicle I was looking to purchase. Their pre-purchase inspection came with a full report, inclusive of photos, and they took extra time with me to double check on a noise I was concerned about. The extra care, time and effort is worth every penny spent here, because they probably saved me thousands of dollars of expense in the future... and heartache! This was my first time taking my vehicle here and I don’t regret it at all. Jason B, was the one who I dealt with from start to finish. I took my car in for some oil leaks that the other car shop couldn’t find the problem to or where it stemmed from. I was assured that my car would be under great care and would be fixed as soon as possible. I was told that by Thurs, it would be ready. Jason kept me informed and would give me daily updates on my car, and by Wed it was finished. I was so impressed by the work done and the daily updates with text messages and photos of the work being done on it. I am truly impressed and really glad that I found this shop. Jason, you are amazing and thank you again for all your guidance and help! I will continue to come back to you and the rest of the staff for any car needs.
Justin at A+ Japanese Auto Repair is a breath of fresh air. He was kind, quick, and super helpful. By the time we we’re done with the paperwork, my car’s headlight was fixed and I was out the door. It’s clear that Justin loves his job and genuinely cares about the customer experience. I’ll definitely be back with any of my car needs!

Work done by the guys was good.I had a door issue that the door won’t open when I unlock the car which I did not get fixed as estimate was very high. Somehow the door does not lock anymore (which is bad than it no unlocking from outside)Not happy the way billing was handled and I felt completely misled by Naeem. I was told that the bulb assembly was $530 and that it was expensive part considering it’s an Audi and labor was on top. When the day I was to pick the car, I Naeem told me the total cost was lower since they adjusted the labor further so I payed gladly over phone. I received the invoice by email later and to my shock the bulb assembly was way less costly!! $530 had more than 50% as labor cost!! On top, the inspection cost was added which was supposed to be waived off!Don’t plan to return as my trust is lost in them and would not recommend them either to anyone.
One of the unnecessary repairs I had hoped to get done wound up costing over $2000. Justin was honest about that up front and left it up to me—I declined, of course. This kind of honesty and transparency is refreshing from an auto repair business at least in my experience. Plus, I love the efficiency—my paperwork was handled quickly, Justin got me a Lyft, and I was on my way. He called, as promised, when my car was done. So professional. Love A+ Japan Auto!
This was my first time with A+ Japanese Auto Repair - from the start, their website is very easy to use and even easier to make an initial appointment. I actually had to call in to change my appointment time, and I cannot stress how lucky I was to have Jason pick up my call!Jason was friendly, extremely helpful and delivered excellent customer service, every step of the way! He was quick to explain their entire process (love the transparency!), helped me understand what theyd be doing for my car this time, and was just such a pleasure to work with. In addition, the actual servicing was so efficient - they helped me get a Lyft ride home after I dropped my car off, and made sure to even send me a full breakdown of all the things they checked on my car.I cannot stress how amazing my experience with Jason and A+ Japanese Auto Repair was. Hey so I dropped off my car to these guys during the COVID-19 pandemic my engine light was blinking so I knew I had to get it fixed right away. A friend of mine referred me to these guys right away they were updating me sending me emails with detailed information about my spark plugs being shot out. The email really broke it down nicely outlining everything they were doing. They even said they had some more suggested recommendations they could do on the car but they let me know about that in advance and said not to worry about that at this time for the matter has been fixed and they recommended I drive my car 500 miles and if the engine light doesn’t come back on then those other recommendations don’t need to be needed at this time. The thing that my friend said when he referred me was these guys fixed a simple transmission problem while another shop was trying to replace the whole entire transmission therefore he saved $2800 and we all know how much money talks so that’s what struck out to me. I’ve only driven 100 miles so far my car is running nicely and these guys for nothing but courteous and friendly over the phone and they even dropped off my car to my place! Yes I recommend these guys!
Considering I was looking all over the place frantically for an auto repair shop I went to one in South San Francisco and she said Im better off taking it to the dealer to get my repairs done because it wasnt worth it for them to fix my car. So I googled auto repairsthey and this shop came up and it was amazing it was a god-send. I spoke to Justin he sounded very honest and gentle kind of like a gentle giant he assured me my car will be fixed and I have nothing to worry about thats the first time I really believed an auto repair shop and I will always go there if I ever need repairs I highly recommend them good quality work and I got my car in a timely manner I was really impressed.
When my current mechanic couldnt finish a timing belt job on my Lexus IS 300, I took it here. They are experts in Japanese cars, and I would trust them with the most difficult jobs. You are paying for the best!A+ Japanese Auto Repair was extremely patient with me, always providing great customer service even when I called multiple times for quotes and even canceled an appointment once.They also accommodated my request to use my own parts, which some shops would not even let me do.That said, they are extremely expensive. The labor alone for my timing belt and water pump job was $1200. They did have to take out the radiator and other components to access the timing belt (because of a corroded bolt), but it still seems on the high side. I would figure that the entire job is about 6-7 hours of labor for a great mechanic.If you have a difficult or sensitive job (such as engine or transmission repair) that other shops cant do, definitely take it here. They are experts and always provide white-glove customer service.
This is just a quick, very positive review for A+ Japanese Auto Repair. Ill have a detailed review on Yelp. From beginning to end, everyone at A+ was helpful, courteous and professional. I worked with Jason primarily but during my visit, I also met Naeem and Justin. Jason was friendly and straight forward when it came to pricing, options for repairs and expectations. Ive been very pleased with this shop.

Three cars and at least 15 years later this is still the best consumer experience I could hope for. I now have recommended my best friend and my sister. They are great communicators, are super service oriented, and best of all, really competent mechanics that do the thing right the first time.
I so appreciate the honesty and respectful demeanor of everyone I have encountered at this shop. I have been bringing two cars here for years and I would never go anywhere else. They will give you the straight story every time and will give you a break on things when they can. This is how every shop should operate, with informed quality people who see their role as helping you get the best service you can. I also appreciate that they will send you a text that includes a full evaluation of your car including photos the tecs have taken of various things. It really helps demystify the experience and gives you assurance that they are not just deciding to charge you for something but instead are actually looking and showing you evidence of whatever it is. These folks are best in class.

I NEVER write reviews but It’s time to let my secret out - I’ve been going to these guys for years now (To Justin in particular) to service my 2011 Toyota Highlander and they are the absolute BEST! Really, words do not describe the excellent customer service and trustworthy knowledge they provide - over the top! They take the time to educate you about all aspects of your service and the mechanic’s recommendations and never pressure you into a repair, ever. In fact they will frankly let you know what recommendations can be safely deferred and which are more urgent. Once they even waived an oil change fee for me just because I’d been a loyal customer for years. I would recommend them hands down over and above any mechanic I’ve ever been to and I’ve been through my share over the last 33 years since I’ve been driving. If everyone provided customer service like Justin does this would be a perfect world.
