This place rocks. Go in for a couple of items, and come out stocked for the apocalypse. Just can’t pass up on all the deals.

I want to say that this commissary has a hard time keeping popular items in stock. I dont really understand the logistics since every store off base has no issue with stock, but the commissary just cant keep good stuff on hand. Additionally the produce section is terrible. It regularly runs out of stock and the stuff that is there is always old and usually wilted. The rest of the store is okay I guess, but since its smaller than grocery stores off-base the selection isnt that great.Dont come on-base just to use the commissary; everything off base is better in every way. I only use it because I live on base and its convenient.

NEVER again!!!! I had not visited this commissary in years. I went today and it was DISGUSTING!, unorganized and chaotic! The lines were out of control lots of products were out of stock. Everything is so cramped up in the front causing customers to have limited space to form lines to check out. My blood Pressure went up! There was one bagger that stood out if it wasn’t for her super friendly attitude I would have broken down with a panic attack.

I have to check the expiration dates on everything and end up putting items back because theyre expired. Even though Im so used to it, I still end up old products like dressing that expired 5 months prior when Im not looking. I shouldnt have to do this much work to purchase food. Ive been to commissaries at small posts overseas and didnt run into stocking issues this bad.Additionally, Ive had to file a complaint because the sanitization sometimes gets really bad. Even though it doesnt smell as horrible as it does, I can still catch the scent of a dead mouse every other week or so.The self check-out section is unlike any other commissary in that we dont stack up the baskets underneath the register. The attendant has to do extra work and police us to take our baskets which is a waste of time.It just seems like this commissary is poorly managed and I use it only because its the closest grocery store.

Raving about meat quality and prices two years ago...sure has changed.Even the 4 discount bins are much too expensive!!

At the self service lane the old gentleman was having a hard time checking out. He was keep asking for help but the lady working that area was busy talking to her coworkers. Also nobody seems to open the plastic bags for the shoppers nor disinfect the counter, computer screen so forth after each shoppers finish checking out.If the employee open the plastic bags for the shoppers, the line will move faster.

One of the few times I have seen the produce department stocked with fresh fruits and veggies. Usually when I shop at the commissary at 6 PM the produce is bare and it doesnt look fresh. Yesterday it was beautiful, fresh looking to the eye. I also completed a survey, which is a great idea. I have done these surveys before and have seen a difference at the commissary. Thank you for keeping the commissary strong at Lackland AFB, I shop there quite frequently do to I do not live very close to a grocery store.

Update: I love shopping here on base!!This place is not a fancy super market but it has everything you need and fantastic prices. Great customer service checkers and bagers are so friendly.I shop here at Lackland at at HEB.

I have seen an increase of patrons using the self check-out registers that are over the posted maximum limit. Sometimes a cart full (obviously over the 30 limit), thus holding up others who were planning to spend less time in the store. These rules needs to be enforce to speed up the amount of time patrons stay in the store during this Covid-19 epidemic.

Fair prices and good selection! Full deli and bakery. Store layout is nice. Cashiers were very personable and friendly. They were knowledgeable on the area and glad to assist me. Tip: watch out for expired items (as with any commissary). Bread, eggs, milk, etc.

Good prices, as always in a Commissary. Great selection, including the more natural, healthy, and Gluten Free options my family needs and prefers.The little Sushi kiosk is not to be missed! SO fresh and delicious, and always happy to make up something special for you. And, bonus, they know what Gluten is, and can tell you what is safe to eat!

Nice selection friendly customer service. Good selection of products. I always have a great experience when shopping here. Clean bathrooms, Not always cheaper than off post but it’s a better environment to shop.

This marketplace is no different than any other marketplace in the community other that serves the local military.and yes indeed it is late in the year so you will cannot help but notice seasonal marketable inventory stocked in the middle of various aisleways much like any large marketplace.and so my friend be prepared to walk the length of the aisleway before youre able to turn around and shop for items on the opposite side.Strongly suggest you keep your shopping visit to this locale limited one or two members of the family... As you were.

Half empty these days! People with serious attitudes! I cannot recommend this place. Appears to be falling apart, and no one gives a darn! You ask questions, and you get the old San Antonio two step! Go to HEB!! At least they care and have the shelves stocked, and will answer all your questions!

Only 2 cashiers on regular line 10+ customers in line waiting, manager claimed it wasnt her fault people call in Sick with flu. As once a manager, to me its poor excuse to give, a good manager should already know the traffic coming in by end of month or near a holiday .

Nice choice of goods and prices are reasonable too.

The self checkout will drive you crazy but the selection there is always the best and this is where you go to buy meat. Its the cheapest and better quality

The place smelled like a sewer plant! A grocery store should NEVER smell like that. Majority of the product was out of stock. Everything is OVER PRICED! You do better going to Walmart or HEB for fresh produces not molded. This is the worst commissary ever.

I have shopped at many commissaries and this one by far is the worst. On first impressions that front wall of merchandise always looks like someone started to fill it then forgot.The produce looks like something you would donate not sell. The food on the shelves is always expired And bacon omg is always bad and still left on the shelf. Its almost like management at this store is proud of the expired bad food they sell.Ive spoken with management and when bringing a problem like expired food or merchandise completely stocked in the wrong area they dismiss you blaming the flaw on someone else. I as a customer dont care whos fault it was fix it.I shop this store solely because of the meat it always looks fresh and is very reasonably priced.Fingers crossed this store catches up with some of standards.

Being a retired veteran I have experienced numerous lower priced items comparable to similar off base items. Of course youll also find that certain other items are priced higher. Overall, i am very satified with the commissary.

Worst customer service ever.... asked for help to bag my groceries none of the bagger help us out... then you ask yourself why nobody like to tips this people with their nasty attitudes, and treated us like garbage... same thing with the cashier not a single word not a good afternoon nothing ...... I dont usually buy at the commissary because of this, I rather spend a little bit more on other places ..... the employees at the commissary feel they own the world....not sure is it because we are a hispanic family but we felt discriminated.....

I have to say weve been disappointed, especially over the last month. Barren shelves to old produce! The Lackland Commissary could really use a facelift and mondernization. With the exception of a few items HEB is much more appealing and a better shopping experience. Popular items today were missing from the shelves and the international food isle almost empty?

I’ve been shopping here for over a year now, so I think it’s only fair that I write a review of my experiences. The negatives outweigh the positives. The produce is a hit or miss (9/10 a miss.) Today while shopping, they were out of a lot of produce such as blueberries and strawberries. The meat is usually spoiled. The chicken looked absolutely disgusting and old during my last visit. Steak cuts are overpriced, you’re better off going to HEB for produce and meat selections. The isles are too thin, and the commissary is usually overcrowded. Nothing quite beats the rude staff here. Every single time I do the self-checkout, without fail, I have extremely impatient employees attending to me. Last time, the woman was quite literally bossing me around, telling me that I needed to hurry up as I’m trying to scan products and place them in the bags while I’m 7 months pregnant. Absolutely no help. Not to mention, the self-checkout is very outdated and assistance is required for every other item you scan. And if you want to wait in line to have a cashier help you, you will feel obligated to tip the baggers, which I do not care for as I don’t carry cash on me. You’re better off going to HEB. Wish the produce and meat selections here were better..

The food is overpriced compared to off base especially since there is no sales tax on food in Texas. The only thing worth the price is the meat department. The fresh fruit is usually moldy or goes bad within a day. Save time and money and shop off base.

I can always find my asian snacks at very reasonable prices. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and with the new renovations, the store looks a lot better. Everything is orderly and well-managed, and most of the pricing is very fair.

I enjoy shopping here. Its not super crowded. Friendly check out staff.

This is just a big grocery store, the plus side is that they carry different cultural foods alongside your typical foods, . A small selection of pet toys though. Another down thought is only three cash registers were open, along with self checkout lines. Not to mention you are expected to tip the bagger

HEB is better than here, price, and customer service. Only good thing about the commissary is the sushi place. The ladies that work there are always nice and helpful and love the rolls. But I shop at the avalley High HEB for everything else.

They have foreign brands I miss, which is great. They only sell brand name items which ends-up bring more expensive than buying non-brand items at the regular grocery store.

Decent prices. They recently lowered self checkout to 30 items. Kind of lame.

I dont shop here, but everyone need to know the 4 stars is for the sushi bar in there, much better than the one in HEB on vally-hi.

This commissary was very disappointing. Its older and in dire need of an update but that is no excuse for the odd organization of things and funky smells encountered on our trip.

They had a paleo section. I had to buy a meal, it was delicious. I only wish they were in Michigan. I was on a time limit. I could have spent a day or two here.

Most of the prices are higher than at Walmart and HEB. On the plus side, they have a good selection of international foods, and meat is inexpensive.

Dont go as often as I use to. The only complaint I have is they are forever moving products around weekly. Frustrating for older shoppers when they are use to going to the same isle for what they need and find out its moved elsewhere in the commissary. Makes the shopping experience exhausting for seniors.

Prices are hard to beat. Best place to buy meat.

H-E-B has the Lackland commissary beat. I stopped by the commissary after my eye exam to kill time and figured I would pick up some of our common products. I compared prices through the H-E-B app with items at the commissary and found out the produce section was pricy...celery at the commissary was $1.98, H-E-B = $.98. I went through the produce for other fruits and vegetables and found myself not putting it in my basket. Found other products cheaper but not worth the trip to make special runs to the grocery store.

The renovation made it very consumer friendly. My only suggestion is to work on produce. They do not have same standards as H-E-B or Wal-Mart. Employees are polite and courteous.

Everyone is so nice! Store is always clean. Restrooms are always well kept. Cant beat the deals. 😉

Very helpful, clean and easy to find things. Too many people get upset about the baggers but the ONLY money they make is what you give them. I love the help.

One of the worst commissaries Ive dealt with. Lost count of how many expired goods Ive purchased here, some of which could have made my family sick! Produce is hit and miss. Ive seen large quantities of moldy garlic and almost rotted potatoes to choose from one week and good stuff the next. The only reason this store has 2 stars is because the employees are really nice.

Been in the military for 26 years. Worst commissary I have ever been in. Shelves were empty, produce was old and rotten. What an embarrassment! You should be ashamed to open your doors. To make it even worse, the customer service was horrible. The lady at self checkout was extremely rude. I will take my business off base for the first time in my career! Shame on you!

Its been recently renovated. I dont shop here often because HEB is often less expensive and definitely has a better selection......but I will make a trip here about twice a month to get those items that are cheaper here at the commissary.

Overall, this commissary is definitely hit or miss. I always say dont bring your problems to work and I believe that some of the people that work here do that, along with some of the customers. Customer service goes both ways. The prices are comparable to other places, but what I like the most is you can get items that you wouldnt normally find off base at HEB or Walmart. They always have different sales every day. The baggers are there to help you with your groceries, and thats why they are paid based off tips. If you dont want a bagger helping you, then honestly, dont shop here, OR go to self-checkout if you have less than 15 items that you can carry on your own.I do miss the one cashier that worked there, he was very polite to everyone, had a contagious smile, and was very good looking. I know for a fact that he was Asian, and had wing tattoos on both his arms. I heard that the front end manager and cashiers miss him dearly, but he had to move on to a much better, high paying gig. Hopefully Ill run into him again, and show my love...I mean my appreciation for his outstanding customer service, and friendly attitude. Did I mention he was sexy??? I sure did...

The isles are so small its hard to pass through 2 carts at a time, especially when they have the big stocking carts in the isle. I really thought with the remodel things could move more smoothly. Also the shelves were not stocked there were several items i didnt get because they were not stocked. I went in late after noon. Do they not stock before and after shopping hours? Randolph and fort sam are better commissarys. To bad they are such a far drive. Thank goodness for H-E-B.

Great produce lots of diverse items. Great quality.

Upside:Mid month. Low traffic. Fresh food looks better. Shelves are full.Downside: horrible seafood freezer. All seafood caught and processed from China, except Emiril Lagase shrimp (which I love). No bueno. I want US caught or farmed fish.Please dont continue to feed this stuff to our military families.

Requires base access. Decent prices. No taxes, but a hidden fee still.

Sometimes this place can be great but it depends in your cashier. The older lafies tend to not let you use coupons at all while others are totally ok with it. Do not go 10 mins to closing because they will not let you in and if your inside during closing, they will literally kick you out.

Not really a fan of the fact you feel obligated to have a bagger follow you out to your car to help you put your grocerys in your car, and then you have to tip them... Just awkward. They need to have normal lanes where baggers are not waiting to follow you...
