Took my regulators in to have them serviced after speaking to them on the phone. We were told that it would be $65 for the 1st and $35 for the second plus parts if needed. We were also told that if we needed parts they would call and let us know. Went to pick them up and found that they had replaced everything inside. When asked why and why they didn’t call we were told that they always just replace everything. What was supposed to cost us $100 per regulator ended up costing us $200 per!! Would have been nice to know when we dropped them off. Hopefully they work. Guess we will see!!

Great experience! Bill, the dive master/instructor, dove 2 days with my 15 yr old son who was seeking his advanced open water cerification. Gear rental was super easy and the store is conveniently located near the Medical Center. We were in a bit of a rush given our imminent vacation to Florida and some planned wreck dives. Scuba Shack worked with our tight schedule, when the other shops wouldnt!Bill was fantastic, safe and a consumate professional. My son was in great hands the entire time, and is well on his way to a lifetime of enjoyment with scuba. Thanks Bill and Scuba Shack.

Every dive is a great experience! The staff and instructors really focus on fun. They understand to become a successful diver you have to be comfortable under the water. The staff takes as much time as you need to explain all the options. The same holds true under water. Whether you’re working on skills or enjoying a dive site they really take pride in delivering an experience. You can visit any dive shop if you want to dive but the exciting atmosphere and attention to details are only at SA Scuba. They’ll go diving anytime you want. So supportive of the sport!!

Very nice people who provided exceptional service. My whole family needed snorkel gear and they took as much time as was needed with each person to find the perfect fit and never tried to steer anyone to the most expensive items. Fit was the most important thing to them. We were all very impressed with the level of service they provided and highly recommend using them if you need help finding the perfect gear for your snorkeling adventure.

After researching all the local San Antonio area dive shops to do my open water and advanced certifications, I was most impressed with the team at SA Scuba Shack. Great pricing on the training and gear and they are also military friendly!Training was conducted in a very safe and controlled manner. The instructors take the time to ensure you not only meet the PADI standards but more importantly that YOU feel confident in YOUR abilities. From the moment you walk through the Scuba Shack’s door, they treat you like part of the family. David is an AWESOME instructor! He really knows his skills and effectively teaches them to his students. He is also really patient with his student’s which I feel helps relax everyone in the group. On top of all that he is just a nice guy. He gave me an extra wet suit to borrow when I started to get hypothermia (took the class in the fall), despite this I had a blast in his open water class! We started off learning our skills in a pool just going over the basics. Once we had those down, we took a trip to Canyon Lake (Depth = 25ft) and tested out. Overall it’s a pretty quick and easy class. Well worth your time if you plan on taking any trips to scenic beaches. It gives you an opportunity to really look at a whole new world that snorkeling just can’t give you. Plus the certification is FOR LIFE. And yes, be prepared to BOOGIE!

Was booked a last-minute trip and had less than two weeks to get my scuba certification. I could not have found a better place to take my classes!! Besides being incredibly accommodating with the schedule (even working with me on Christmas Eve) everybody was so extremely patient and put any reservations I had at ease. I knew absolutely nothing about diving and went in completely new to the sport. I personally worked with Tony, Courtney & Bryan. All 3 of these men were outstanding teachers and made me feel incredibly comfortable and confident. Their love of the sport definitely shows in their teaching methods. David and the rest of the crew at scuba shack were wonderful to work with & be around. So happy I found this place and am truly looking forward to dives within the scuba community in the near future. Thank you all for the awesome experience!! See ya soon :)

My instructor, Stephanie, and assistant instructor, Dennis, are very passionate about teaching and couldnt have made the learning process more enjoyable. They worked around my tight timeline on being certified without sacrificing quality. Customer service is by far the most prominent attribute of the Scuba Shack. There are so many things that I love about this place. Diving has always been a bucket list thing for me-just something that I had to experience first hand. From the second my husband and I stepped into SA Scuba Shack, it was almost as if we were being welcomed into a new family. Everyone that we interacted with-David, Loyda, Wanda, Paul, Greg, Tony, and Christian-have been so kind and patient. We took our Open Water Certification class with Paul, and while my husband took to it like he was born with fins, I apparently tend to freak out a bit underwater. (Also, Ive had problems with my ears in the past, and was really worried about that hindering my ability to dive.) Although I made these into problems of monumental sorts in my head, I was assured by both Paul and David that this would not stop me. And yall-they lived up to their words, big time.As a result of my fears, it took me a little longer to get certified than the typical student. Paul, David, and Greg were never ending with their patience, good humor, and tireless ability to help me reach my goal. (And I did get to dance underwater also, which was really fun and something I highly recommend to everyone!) When I felt like I couldnt do the skills, I was reassured that I already had done them (in the pool), and could do them again. And they were right. The shop also offers dive trips regularly and socials, something Im really looking forward to participating in now that Im a real life diver. If youve ever even considered diving, I wholeheartedly recommend SA Scuba Shack. They really are game changers who help you achieve your dreams.

I was PADI certified about 10 years ago in Hawaii. Unfortunately, you would have never even guessed that by looking at my dive log (I hadnt been on a dive since :( )!Being a traveler of sorts, I am pretty active on the meet up websites and always looking for something new to get into. I kept noticing this one particular group tha would get together for dives and mixers and I was intrigued. So one morning I decided to call up SA Scuba Shack and just started asking questions about refresher courses and other classes that may be available, assuming I wouldnt really find much in San Antonio, Texas. Dave was very informative and very friendly from the first moment I spoke with him. He told me how to get to the shop and made time to sit and talk with me that very day!Knowing my desire to get back in the water pretty quickly, Dave made plans for me to work in my refresher training with his upcoming open water class and it was really that easy! Since then, I have managed to get in my deep water dive, learn neutral buoyancy, and I finally learned to navigate with a compass! If you are looking for an awesome experience and are interested at all in diving, you will definitely want to call SA Scuba Shack! Dave will walk you through everything as many times as you need and will not let you loose in the water until you are completely comfortable! You get to know Dave and everyone in the group so well that you really do feel like family there! Now I am planning dives with my brother like I had wanted, and hoping to get in some wreck diving with my new great group of friends! And dont forget to check out his new gear! He has a great collection of dive equipment and can pretty much order anything you are looking for. Even in PINK! :-)

There are so many positive things about SA Scuba Shack, I would give them a 50 star rating if I could! When I first started looking into getting certified, I thought it was going to be a one time thing I would do for a vacation soon approaching.  However, David and Loyda have created an atmosphere at their shop that makes you feel welcome from day one. Diving very quickly shifted from a one time experience to something I’m committed to for life thanks to SA Scuba. There is a vast selection of gear at the shop, anything you need they’ll have it. They go out of their way to accommodate all of your diving needs.  I’m an extra tiny person, and they made sure they had gear that was suitable for my diving experience, from fitting me correctly to keeping me warm. I had David as my instructor and he is FANTASTIC! Extremely patient and focused on making sure you feel comfortable in the water and have a solid understanding of the skills you’re learning. He also wants you to have fun and enjoy the experience, so be ready to break out your best dance moves underwater if you get him as your instructor! They take their shop to the next level by hosting lots of activities that promote community bonding. From monthly social mixers and “Sunday Fundays” at Comal River, to a few dive trips throughout the year! All of the instructors are amazing at SA Scuba. Their spirited personalities shine and everyone I’ve met so far has been more than enthusiastic to share their diving knowledge and give encouraging advice to this lil’ rookie diver. They offer the opportunity to continue your diving education here, so if you want to go beyond your open water certification, this is the place to do it! I’ve already signed up for more classes and I can’t wait to keep discovering what the diving world has to offer!Thank you SA Scuba Shack for being the best place in Texas to get scuba certified!!

I did my PADI Open Water certification through SA Scuba Shack last month, and I was very pleased with my experience. The staff was extremely professional and courteous. They will absolutely take the time necessary to ensure every member of the class meets or exceeds the standards for safe diving, while creating a fun and engaging atmosphere.Pros: Very knowledgable and diverse staff that brings a ton of unique experiences to each class and dive.SA Scuba Shack offers the best price I could find in San Antonio. While the Open Water course includes everything you need including the personal gear (mask, snorkel, fins, and boots) the staff does not try to pressure people into upgrading or buying a bunch of stuff they dont need.Flexible with getting in all the required dives. Because of my work schedule I could only dive on Sundays, and they were more than willing to work around it.Dive in multiple places for a diverse experience. For my OW dives, I dove Crystal Lake and the Comal River. Both of these places shattered my expectations of what diving inland TX would be like. The gear they issue is all in great condition and functioned properly. No one in my class had a single issue with any of their gear. After the classroom portion you get to try out all the gear for fit, including the wet suit, and choose thickness based on your comfort for 70-75 degree water. The dive shop is active with lots of events and activities for future diving experiences.Cons: The pool in which we did the closed water portion was not ideal. I was pretty surprised when we pulled up to a residential neighborhood and walked into someones backyard. It ended up being a great experience because the pool was 10ft deep, and in no way hindered our ability to practice the skills. However, at times it felt a little crowded with 7 students, an instructor, and a divemaster.Overall, SA Scuba Shack far exceeded my expectations. I went into the OW course thinking of it as something that I needed to get out of the way so that I could get to real diving in places more well-known for their SCUBA diving. I left valuing my experience and the relationships I built with the staff and other classmates and I look forward to more opportunities to dive in TX with these awesome people.

Going into my journey of scuba diving, I already knew the SA Scuba Shack crew because I met them at my old job where they hold their monthly meetings; therefore I knew they were good, fun people to work with. What I didn’t know was how they would be when it came to teaching, and let me tell you, I couldn’t have found a more perfect establishment to learn from. I had two instructors, David & Loyda. David taught our classroom session, he explained everything in a way that not only made sense but to the point that there was no confusion about the given topic. My water sessions were by far the most amazing experience I’ve ever had. Loyda was more than outstanding, at some points during our skills assessments, my nerves were going and she managed to get me to just breathe, understand that I was ok and feel confident being underwater. There was never a doubt in my mind that I wasn’t safe or couldn’t do a skill because of how Loyda communicated with me and reassured me she was there with me the entire way. I am now PADI certified and can’t wait to get back out in the water!
