I took my almost 30 year old stereo receiver to them to fix. After almost 30 years it had stopped working. I had to wait a while to get it back, but it was definitely worth the wait!! It works great now. And, cost me less than $100 to repair. I was looking at reviews for new stereos in case mine wasnt able to be fixed, and the reviews scared me. The newer models and brands are expensive and loaded with problems. So glad I held on to my old one!!

Amazing Service! Our one and a half year old 55” Samsung Curved flatscreen suddenly went dark on one side. After calling Samsung they determined I needed a complete screen replacement. I have to thank Samsung for offering to pay for the parts, leaving me with only the cost of labor. I received a call from The Sound Idea the very same day Samsung authorized the repair. I was advised they would order the new screen and contact me for an appointment when it arrived. Just a few days later (today/Saturday) they called me back and we set up an at home repair the very same day! It’s amazing how quickly they were able to get us up and running. My television is like new again. The Sound Idea was prompt, professional, and did an excellent job for a very fair price. Thank you for a perfect experience.

I have dealt with Sound Idea for years on and off. It seems like every piece of stereo equipment I have had them fix does not work anymore. The last time I brought my old receiver to them and took it home it didnt work that same day. Also at least one corner was dented and the connected antennae on the back was broken. I did not have time to drive it all the way back and the warranty expired. I dont know if they are using cheap or used parts or what the deal is. My experience is similar to other reviewers. I think that they can fix most electronic equipment but when it comes to vintage hi fi stereo they dont always know what they are doing or simply lack experienced workers??? I am going to go to a place called Mr. E in San Antonio next time to try my luck.

Bose Lifestyle 25 Series II System had the cd magazine stuck & wouldnt eject. Led light display wasnt working either. Sound Idea fixed both issues. CD player stopped working & after several months of troubleshooting they recommended connecting a separate cd player that they had for sale. I certainly appreciate Gilberts honesty & for taking care of my equipment. Thank you.Several years ago Sound Idea fixed my Toshiba turntable & did a fantastic job, fair turnaround time.

Took my Akai reel to reel for service and was quoted $50 to look at. I knew this before hand, so i took it in. They were very friendly upon my arrival and assisted me in taking the unit in from my car (I am disabled). After I told them what was going on with the unit, they stated a few possibilities, but needed to dig in. Great! They also stated if would be a little before they got back to me with an estimate, I patiently awaited. I received a call with an estimate, and had them proceed with needed repairs. They took longer than I would have liked, but I still had other formats to keep me entertained, hence I was patient. When I received the unit and took it home, it was total music to my ears!!! They went above and beyond what I expected! Not only was it fixed, but they cleaned and Deoxit-ed what needed attention. I have another Reel to Reel, that needs their attention soon! Other than the time factor, I recommend highly.5 Stars! Alex

I took my Technics SL-1300 turntable here to be repaired. The repair took a little less than they originally told me (about 2 months). They called for approval of the repair, even though I gave them the go-ahead under $200, which is very professional in my opinion. Ive no idea how long the repair took, but i found it to be very reasonably priced. The turntable came back in perfect working condition, and they were very willing to answer questions for me over the phone afterward. There are VERY few options for turntable repair in San Antonio, so I am very happy that this went as well as it did.

I had a Samsung repair covered under warranty done by Sound Idea. After submitting my request online, they called me back the next business day, ordered the part I needed and said it would take 3 days. 3 days later they called and said the part had come in and set up an appointment for repair that day. The tech came by, repaired the TV quickly and bid me adieu. After turning on the TV I noticed a thin black line at the bottom of the screen. He came back that same day and fixed it again! Great service!!

Had a very good experience. I just found an old receipt for my car radio repair; Pioneer FHP5000MP dating back to 11/10/05. The thing about it is, my old Pioneer is still thumping at 50 watts/channel x 4. No need to buy a new. I play my M8 through it. Its a very nice radio, plays cassettes and CDs also. I know where to go if I need something done right....

My Egnater Amplifier was cutting out on the lead channel. Eganter told me to dropped off my amp Sound Idea in SA and I drove back to Austin. Three weeks later they called said it was ready,..... Amp is exactly the same... I dont understand how someone can miss this unless they never tried the lead channel... Do not take you equipment to this location. I drove a total of 344.8 miles for absolutely nothing!

Pioneer VSX was popping on the speaker channels and cycling on and off. Took to Sound Ideas under warranty per factory instruction. When I got it back, it was doing the same thing, only worse. returned it to be repaired, they kept it for 2 months and said they could not duplicate. Very rude on the phone, even hung up on me once. Receiver still isnt fixed and now the warranty is expired.

The Sound Idea was a bit farther than I wanted to drive but it was closer to my work than my home. During my lunch, I dropped off my Pioneer SX-750 to be repaired on 5/5/2016. It has a bad hum in it. It will most likely be a capacitor replacement from what I have read online and needs a really good cleaning. I would think it shouldnt cost more than $80 to repair it give or take. Back in 2004 I had paid around $65 each to have two different TVs repaired. This was back in NC. I am hoping that it would be about the same.I paid a $35 diagnostic fee which will determine the total cost to repair it. If I go through with the repair they fee is applied toward the repair of the receiver. While there I was told there is a 5 week waiting period before they will be able to get to it. I was surprised; however, I understand because they appear to be the ONLY audio repair shop and ONLY authorized Pioneer repair shop in San Antonio. The next closest is in Austin.I dont know what her title was or her name, but she was working the front desk, taking phone calls, and appeared to be ordering parts. She was courteous and attentive to my needs. When you first walk into the repair shop there is a counter directly in front of the door. Her desk is off to the right facing the front door. Along the back wall are a few bins with different parts and wires behind the counter. It looked a little cluttered. There is a hallway to the left and a room to the right.I asked her if I could look around. They had a few items the room off to the right. She told me I could and that all the items on the shelves were for sale.I was actually expecting a showroom of things from the rare to more recent. I was also expecting some high prices to support their electronics trade, at least thats how it was back in NC.When I walked into the room to the right I felt like I had stepped into a flea market room. There was a lot of clutter and chaos. Immediately to the left of the door was a computer and desk . Along the wall to the left to about the center of the room were parted out TVs. The wall across from the door and to the right of the door had shelving with a variety of electronics for sale and against the shelves on the right leaned large parted out TVs.The items on the shelves ranged from receivers, speakers, cassette players, and VHS rewinder. The prices were not too overwhelming in comparison to what I have seen on Craigslist and OfferUp and didnt think their prices were too outrageous. The big difference probably is that these items worked compared to what I had seen. When I got home, I called my father and told him about The Sound Idea. He wasnt too thrilled I dropped my sound equipment off there and recommended I take it too Austin for repairs or out to Killeen. When I asked what the issue was he told me they charged too much on repairs and explained he was charged $200 to repair his old Pioneer PL-115D record player and $175 to service his Teac A-3300SX Reel to Reel.I am hoping this is not the case. I decided that I will leave my receiver there to see how the estimate turns out. I am hoping I can come back and update my review during that time. All in all the visit to the store wasnt too bad. It was farther out than I expected. Since they are the only repair shop in San Antonio I cant complain too much about their wait time.If the owner is reading this post, I would recommend cleaning up that room to the right. I know that may be the last thing on your mind since you are so busy with all these repairs. I hope you have an apprentice because audio repairs appear to be a dieing trade in this area. For now, I will give them four stars. I will update the review once I get an update.

I gotta say that when the work is actually done, its right. However, I took my turntable in to get new RCAs and a new grounded power cord. After a month, I showed up and RCAs were done but power cord wasnt. The unfriendly woman that wrote the ticket behind the counter was more interested in her food, tv program and leaving work early than telling the tech that either she fd up or he couldnt read her ticket. She got that a-hole to deal with me and he immediately got defensive. When I tried to rationally explain what I brought it in for and what I had told his desk anchor, he repeated the same nobody told me that 3 times. After the 3rd time, I had it! I said yes, youve said that 3 times. Youve established that. Nobody would have told you that. They would have written it on a ticket for you to read so lets get past that. How soon can this be done? What is this going to cost?I am a pretty laid back individual and am able to communicate in a reasonable and intelligent way. It takes a lot to push my buttons and if there is a miscommunication, Im able to convey rationally what it is I expect without it becoming a heated discussion on my part. That being said, this staff should not be working with the public. If youve screwed up on an order, OWN IT and fix it. An apology goes a long way.
