Got the goat cheese & cashew flavor plus the Mexican vanilla flavor. Really good texture and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. I highly recommend the goat cheese flavor if you are a big fan of the cheese. Mexican vanilla is also unique from traditional vanilla flavor!

Really liked their Panini. Luigi and Caprese panini was vegetarian and was very good. It is lite on spice, fresh, healthy and very filling. Definitely highly recommend to give this place a try. We also tried 2-flavored gelato - chocolate and goat cheese caramel, it was okayish, but we will surely try more flavors if we come by again.

I am a huge gelato fan and this place definitely lived up to the hype. Staff was nice (they were dressed as Vikings for Halloween!) and helped me get out of my comfort zone with the goat cheese and cashew flavor. I dont mind goat cheese, but in gelato? The flavor was toned down more than I thought it would be and the cashew and caramel elevate it to a different level. Also chose Ricotta and Blackberry (subtle sweetness and smooth) and il goloso (Marscapone Gelato with chocolate, hazelnut, and caramel).Each tasted great, but feel that the next visit I should balance my three flavor combo by replacing one with a chocolate/sweeter flavor. Great place for finisher to the night and cant wait to bring my girls here

I first heard of South Alamode from a recent visit to Little Em’s Oyster Bar. I remembered our server mentioning that the sorbets served there were from South Alamode.We were at another restaurant last night for dinner and decided to stop by after to check it out. My husband particularly loves gelato so we were curious how it compares to another place we’ve had their gelato recently. The biggest pluses were the creaminess of the flavors and the more generous portion size of their small cups (which was the size of a coffee cup). In addition, this gelato didn’t melt as quickly so you didn’t have to worry about having to eat it fast. For the small cup, we had the choice of 2 flavors. My husband had the strawberry lavender sorbet and mango sorbet. I had the strawberries and cream and amaretto chocolate chunk.On the downside, there are limited parking spots so my husband couldn’t go in to check it out and they do not offer samples (there’s a sign). Not sure if it’s due to covid or has always been no tasting. The person in front of me wanted to sample a flavor and the server simply asked them if they wanted that in a small cup. Nicely handled!Maybe next time we could park by Halcyon and have a more leisurely time.

I stopped by yesterday for a sweet treat for my daughter. Very, very good gelato!! My daughter had the mango sorbet and Mexican vanilla. I was tempted by the goat cheese, strawberry, and macadamia. Yum!!! We shall go again!!Parking is a bit difficult as it’s shared with the blue star complex. It was pretty crowded, but we found a spot.

So good had to come back twice in the same week! They had amazing sandwiches and gelato! My favorite is the pomegranate sorbet but all the sorbet I had was delicious!

This place has been on my bucket list for months. I’m from the East and temporarily retired here in San Antonio. I’ve been searching for a great gelato place. This place is WONDERFUL ❤️❤️ The owner told me he was trained in Italy (4 years training) His gelato is homemade, not from a powder mix. I had the dark chocolate and goat cheese salted caramel gelato. Incredible. Perfect for a hot day. There must have been 20 some flavors. I will go back in heartbeat 💓. This place resides in the Southtown Blue Star district. If you have time, take a walk on the beautiful RiverWalk. Oh, I also had the turkey, Brie, green apple panini. Yummy 😋

Wow! South Alamode exceeded my expectations. I dont venture far from the typical flavors when it comes to ice cream, but theyre chocolate and mexican vanilla bean is very good. And so freakin smooth. Very friendly customer service. A/100 too.

Best gelato I’ve ever had!! Tastes authentic and it’s super creamy. At $6 for a small, you get two gigantic scoops in a coffee-size cup. The interior is also really cute and clean, reminds me of an IKEA showroom. They deserve the awards. Highly recommend the mascarpone + blackberry gelato.

Alamode is the best gelato in San Antonio! Their prices are fair and they are always friendly. The portion size for their gelato is astronomical just like in italy. All of their flavors are fantastic and they typically have fun new flavors to try each time you go.

South Alamode had a great gelato selection. Went with my family and tried multiple flavors. I had the pineapple and basil, lemon, and ricotta blueberry and all were smooth and creamy. There are multiple size options. Its a great treat for a warm day followed by a walk by the river.

Nice spot to grab some gelato or a cup of coffee. My son had the chocolate ice cream and really enjoyed it. My wife had the strawberry and said it was very rich. I had an espresso and it was fine. All in all a good place to visit if youre in the area.They also sell sandwiches and paninis but we didnt try them when we visited. I will say the meats in the deli display looked high quality and the vegetables appeared fresh.

Only had the ice cream but it is awesome...had the strawberries and cream and it was next level good and Im not a huge ice cream person.

Ive had a lot of gelato all over the world, and this ranks up near the top. Its authentic, but also not afraid to try non traditional flavors and combos that work amazing. I chose to get a cup of goats milk and strawberry, and a scoop of peanut butter laced with Nutella. Not only was it like a PB&J, but both had fantastic levels of creaminess and individual flavors. Dont miss out on this great gelato!

I just got here from Italy. This gelato is a little taste from there. The kid size is the same as a normal Italian serving and was just right.

Were staying nearby and decided to swing Im for a gelato. Boy what a great decision that was! Mexican Vanilla and Strawberry Cream on a waffle cone was an excellent combo. Service was great. We came back the following day for a panini and really enjoyed it. Took about 20 mins to make the sandwich we ordered so I wouldnt be in a hurry.

My 79 mother loves gelato so I’m happy that we have this shop near us near downtown. Too bad they didn’t have decaf coffee got a cappuccino but overall I loved their rum raisin tasted like ole arroz con leche with a extra flair of rum. The pistachio was soft and smooth. They grounded them nuts perfect for the 79 year old picky eater 😇Overall great little shop.

This is hands down the best gelato you can get! The owner is Italian and studied gelato making straight from the source in Italy, and it shows. The paninis are also the best I’ve had. This place deserves your business over and over again. I especially love the pistachio gelato, but be forewarned it sells out quickly and is not always available. But you really can’t wrong with any of the flavors.

My boyfriend and I tried two of the sandwiches and four of the gelato flavors.Best thing hands down is the bread. It was so good I wanted to ask if I could buy some to take home (I forgot). I’ll start with the $12 Panini HAVANESE (Porchetta, Prosciutto Cotto, Fontina, Housemade Mustard and Pickles). My favorite sandwich is a cuban and this is that, pretty typical to a Cuban. The $10 Panini MORTACCI TUA (Mortadella, Provolone, Pistacchio Mayo) with its hot gooey cheese was better and SO GOOD.Gelato. According to their website their flavors change pretty frequently so they may not be the same when you go. $4 Kid size is 1 scoop, $6 medium is 2, $7 large is 3. You can get different flavors for each scoop which is great if you like variety like I do. The downside is the scoops are on top of each other so the flavor from the top melts into the bottom and mixes/camouflages the other scoops.I had the ricotta blueberry and the strawberry, macadamia, goat cheese. Ricotta didn’t have a lot of the blueberry flavor happening but the strawberry was KILLER. I just wish it had been my top scoop. My guy got a hazelnut/Carmel/chocolate gelato and the other was tiramisu. He was happy with both. The tiramisu had pieces of sponge cake in it.Overall good quality food for a great price.

A local favorite! The gelatto and paninis at Alamode are a great value for the price. Although $6 for a small cup seems pricey, the gelatto portions are huge. The paninis are also very filling and made fresh. Everytime Ive been to Alamode, Ive been served well for the staff and find that the cafe has a welcoming environment. An added bonus is that the bathroom here is always well kept.

I entered this place wanting to try whatever they recommended but I guess they took that as stupidity. I told them it was my first time but they continued to be rather condescending. What salvaged it all was the delicious panini (Luigi) and the affogato. I wish people would not judge there customers so quickly...their non-verbal communication speaks louder than their words.

The affogato with the Mexican vanilla gelato is undeniable. The pistachio gelato is also very special. I cant stop eating here. Plus, its locally owned and very friendly.

Walked in and wasn’t welcomed, ordering was hard because we have never been and the menu was difficult to read. We ending up ordering something basic, but was pleasantly surprised. The food was great! Chips were great! Everything was fresh and delicious! Will be coming back for more!

Highly recommended for some great gelato! The staff is always friendly and they have a good selection of unique gelato and sorbet to choose from. My go to is always the blackberry ricotta gelato! Has a not to overwhelming ricotta taste and the sweet and tart blackberry makes it an excellent pair! Also their apple and brie pannini is great!

During these times trying to support local businesses and they have that kind of attitude Im really disappointed. First visit, they were not busy at all. My husband noticed while our daughter decided what flavor she wanted the gentleman behind counter rolled his eyes at her, then while he ( husband) ordered an older lady behind counter rolled her eyes at him, she noticed he saw her and started blinking rapidly to play it off.

Overall very delicious. Texture was very soft and melt well in your mouth. A small is $6 and a large is $7. A small gets you two flavors and a large gets you 3.Definitely sharable and I would recommend you check it out. Ate it so fast I didnt even get a chance to take a picture.

Man! The gelato has always been great, but have you had a Havanese Panini?!? It was delicious. A little heavy on the ground mustard, but Im a mustard maniac; so no problems here. The pickles in the sandwich itself were great and the meat was fresh! I will definitely be back. Great place for a day date, or a light snack to sit and chill. Live the Blue Star areas and its surrounding pleasantries such as this place.

We have been trying to support local businesses. And it was our first time to S. Alamode. We had hoped to have a good experience as we have had with many other local shops.But service was not very good. Not very welcoming. Person behind counter rolled his eyes when my daughter was trying to make her choices. The gelato was good but it is unfortunate but we will not be returning.

Great Gelato location! Their customer service was beyond patient and kind even though we made it probably 15 minutes before they closed. I got the watermelon and lime sorbet and the combination was divine for the hot summer day. I wish I would’ve gotten a picture of it to show you guys the quality! Will definitely be visiting again next time I’m in San Antonio!

We found this place by chance whilst hiking River Walk outside city center. Interior of the shop is in line with surrounding art complex. We took two ice cream bowls and were absolutely surprised by the extravagant choices and unbelievable good taste of their ice cream. Shop is owned by an italian/American couple. Another evidence, that the Italians invented ice cream ;-)

Best gelato in San Antonio. Their sandwiches are quite delicious a well. The owners and staff are the best. I lived close to South Alamode and made a weekly trip to at least say hi to everyone (and to check out their gelato flavors). Get the pistachio!

Genuine Gelato in San Antonio is hard to come by (in my opinion) so that is why I like to come here. Dont always get to this side of town, but when I am down here, I like to make a stop. It is always fun to see what flavors they have (I look but always choose something with chocolate!)Im a local so I dont do this, but bikes and scooters are everywhere downtown now so it is real easy to travel distances that would have been a good walk in the past. If you are visiting, snag a scooter and head south of down town to try this place. It will be a rewarding stop on a warm day.

Delicious gelato! The two ladies there were so kind to us and we had a great conversation with them. They have gelato, coffee drinks, fruit, and other awesome treats! Its a beautiful place and we will definitely be coming back!

Friendly owners and servers. Best gelato this side of Florence. The common flavors (Mexican vanilla, stracciatella, etc) are excellent and daily flavors demand repeat visits. Fruit sorbets are seasonal. They source as much as they can locally, and pistachios are sourced from Italy. The cafe and bathroom are clean.

Cool vibes and enjoyable area being located at Blue Star; and, obviously, great selections of gelato. Got a small (2 scoops) in a waffle cone. Pricey but worth it with each scoop being massive. Parking available in front and in the Blue Star area. Also about a 15-25 minute walk along the river from downtown

Cute Place with super staff. The gelatos are wonderful! Go out on a limb and try the cheese variations (Goat cheese, cashew, caramel was the absolute BEST!!), and a nice hot espresso. The combo on even a warm day is lovely.

Well worth the trip. My son and daughter-in-law took me there for lunch. The quality of the food was excellent. The luscious gelato for dessert was a great finish for the meal. I really like the area and what the shops there have for sale.
