Wonderful coffee made by a very knowledgeable and friendly barrista in a warm but unpretentious shop. Brown coffee is located in an up and coming area across from The Pearl. There coffee was tasty and strong but smooth and palatable all the same. The ONLY REASON I didnt give it a full five stars is my loyalty and addiction to another coffee shop. That being said, if that other shop wasnt in my life........

Great coffee—true to intent. Pensive vibes, knowledgable barista, Slayer machine. A go-to 3rd wave for San Antonio. If it wasn’t for the burlap and decal wall decor I’d think I was back on the west coast. Would’ve docked one star for being a little too rigid about iced lattes, but they made up for it in customer service.

Great local coffe shop. Personally, Ive had my best tasting cups of black coffee here. They usually have market cups for $5 and $10. $10 seems high for a cup of black coffee, but they are high in flavor. If visiting, please realize they focus on high quality and delicate coffee beans and encourage drinking your coffee black. If you are looking for a non-fat mocha latte with two dashes of vanilla, this may not be your spot.

They put the fat whisky ice cubes in the iced coffee! (To not dilute it.) Cute small place, solid flavorful coffee that is not burnt. Park at the free Pearl parking across the street and walk over! I rarely write reviews but this is one that I feel very strongly about. This is a terrible place. They would not under any circumstance provide sugar or any sweetener for the coffee they sell. Also you cannot take your coffee in a to-go cup. There are so many better places for coffee in San Antonio! If you are looking for a great esspreso you will have a better experience in the San Antonio Barista Academy where they take into consideration what the customer prefers.

This coffee shop is right on broadway, with a good amount of seats. I tried the cold brew dirty. It was delicious, but came with 1 HUGE ice cube that blocks the straw and makes it difficult to drink. No option on sizes. My husband tried the cold brew and coke. It was disgusting. But hey, someone must like it if it’s on the menu.Overall, better coffee shops around broadway we’d go to before this one.

I was super jazzed to try this place out but when I walked in the man behind the counter didn’t seem enthusiastic to be at work. The vibe I was getting that he really didn’t care to make me a coffee. I tried the cold brew with almond milk and it was not great. The coffee tasted sour and like it was the bottom of the cold brew pitcher and had been sitting there for days. It wasn’t fresh. It stinks that I had this experience and the customer service could have won me over to come try something else but it was seriously lacking.

This coffee shop is very non traditional. They have a very limited menu and do not carry most standard coffee shop sizes and products like cream. First time customers should be prepared to have the staff try to impress you with how much they know about coffee but without actually communicating anything meaningful. Suggest you skip Brown all together. I did end up buying coffee but didn’t think it was much better than a Starbucks drink. There are much better specialty coffee shops in San Antonio.

One of, if not, the best coffees in San Antonio, no joke. Ive never been a person to drink black coffee, but their coffee is a completely different animal, and has made me a full on black coffee drinker. It deserves much praise, and recognition, not only for the coffee, but also for their wonderful, friendly, and very knowledgeable staff. Hands down the best tasting coffee in San Antonio (and I could even say Austin). The menus is very simple and there is not a lot of room to sit but they are coffee fanatics and the process is highly controlled from growing the beans to brewing the coffee. I pretty much buy my whole beans exclusively from Brown now and I always try to pick up their newest variety. If you are interested in the meticulous science of coffee, you will want to visit Brown.

This is by far the best coffee in San Antonio. I have lived here many years after moving to the US from Australia. Having worked in the coffee industry in a country where there is no such thing as drip coffee, I have searched long and hard for the quality of product I enjoyed back home. I am stoked to have found it here at Brown! Anyone who is looking to experience coffee as it should be experienced, with its own flavours and highlights (not caramels, vanillas and other flavours - if you prefer these you might search elsewhere) - go here! Cannot say enough about the attention given to extracting the flavour from the careful selection of the beans through the careful process and attention paid to roasting without destroying, to the delicate art of extracting the flavour with care to present a delightful coffee. Well done mate! Thanks heaps for providing such top notch coffee.

I have crazy respect for Brown and their purist ideas about coffee. If you truly like coffee, this is a destination spot.Unfortunately Ive never once felt welcomed in the space and, honestly, cant wait to get my drink and go. Get nervous even ordering without double checking that what I want is on the menu.. because they will make you feel like an idiot if its not. Take this part of my review for what its worth. One thing I love about coffee is the hospitality aspect.. and I dont get that from Brown. However they really do serve one of the best cups of coffee Ive ever had.

The background music (if one can call it that) is hideous. Its like a bunch of jumping kids shouting in your ear as you try to drink a cup of coffee. Youll need expensive ($300) Noise Cancellation earphones or ear muffs to keep from getting totally stressed out. (Or buy your coffee To-Go.... Oh! Maybe thats the intention of the owner. )The baristas are not allowed to change from the distortion & yelling audio track which ruins the ambience.Because of that, i come as little as possible. (Added: on this last visit, the background music was manageable, and @ moderate volume)

What a treat! Brown Coffee Co. is a credit to San Antonio! Visiting Brown isnt about just getting a cup of coffee, its about experiencing coffee. So to be clear...they do not aim to be everything to everybody. They have a mission, an identity, and they remain true to it. And thats what I I LOVE about them. They are experts on the subject of coffee. And thats EVERYTHING about coffee. They import and roast their own, so they know the product and the process, start to finish, inside and out. The most informative conversation Ive ever had on coffee was with the owner. And some of the best coffee Ive ever had has been theirs.I am so glad to have Brown here in San Antonio and look forward to many, many years of their innovative products and service to come.

Very disappointing experience. I enjoy coffee and a relaxing or inviting experience. This was neither. I was informed my coffee drink wasnt a true drink (I usually get a nonfat latte) and that I can only order from their small menu. You get coffee the way they like it, not the way you like it. They didnt have anything white (their word for milk, cream, etc) for me to add to it, no sweeteners, either). I may not be a coffee purist, but throw in the pretentious service and I think Ill leave the hard core coffee drinkers in peace. Two stars for a hot beverage.
