I had a major power stirring pump issue. They got me in pretty quick. Normally they are extremely busy. They resolved my issue in a day Everyone is so nice.
Such a great spot! They took care of my vehicle quickly and efficiently, keeping me updated along the way. I really appreciated my conversations with Vanessa, it was evident that she wanted to make sure they were addressing my needs and not adding on extra costs
Was taken to the cleaners by these guys! I had a oil pressure sensor replaced and even had my own part. A twenty minute job and a 60 dollar part ended up costing me 400 dollars.... its sad when businesses like this take advantage of hard working people during a pandemic... I would not recommend them to anyone.
I needed my brake lights fixed and just found this place. Mike did not have time to work on my car as I had just did a walk-in, but he was so kind and welcoming and referred me to another place that might be able to help. I appreciated that he didn’t just send me off because I was in a bind having no brake lights.
Top notch service every time. Great people to talk to and bounce ideas off of. However, I wish they would let me know that they couldn’t provide a ride or Uber when I dropped off my vehicle. Other than that they are awesome.
Friendly, kind, and supper helpful. Trust worthy place to go. They made sure we were able to get back on the road a d really saved our day. Thanks
Ive been coming to Mikes on and off for 8 years, and they have slowly become my go-to in SLC. They are very honest, informative, and trustworthy. Vanessa who is usually at the desk is very knowledgable and helpful. I always feel heard, and know they have my trucks longevity as priority, with budget a close second.
Good service, very thorough and reasonable prices. Weve been going to Mike for years now. Very trustworthy.
Was needing some work done on my car. But, just reading some of the reviews has made me think other wise. In a customer service position, isnt the customer always right? Even though they may be wrong you dont argue with them and just treat them with disrespect. Not professional at all! I think Ill keep looking for a friendlier mechanic.
Thank you Vanessa and Mike! I took in my 2015 Subaru for an undiagnosed issue after having a terrible experience with the dealership. They were responsive to my concerns regarding my car and took a thorough look. They were able to help me with installation of a new battery after mine was found to be corroded. Vanessa has certifications that aid in her ability to answer questions at the front desk. After having such a great experience the first time in, I took a company vehicle in to find out why the check engine light kept coming on. They were able to guide me through the most important problems that needed to be fixed right away down to more minor maintenance items that could be done but werent necessary. I appreciate their honesty and fair rates. They are open about the process and will tell you if the repair is worth spending money on or if you can hold out for some time. I have been to other shops where they will just charge you for whatever they want, but Mike Palmer Automotive will make sure it is a worthy fix. So nice to have found a repair shop that is all about customer service not how much $$ is in your wallet. If you are looking for an honest, fair shop - Mike Palmer is your place!!
I have been to these guys before. I took the family car (03 Toyota Avalon) to them since the reviews say they know about Toyotas. Disclaimer: I had another mechanic who worked on all our cars for our family and always did a good job but until about a year ago where they slipped up on their customer service and overall quality of work so I decided to seek a second opinion.I took our car to Mikes about a year ago to get the car fixed and ready to be registered again. They were able to accurately diagnose the car and tell me exactly what was going on in laymans terms. I really like that about them. Vanessa has been the main technician/mechanic helping us and she has been wonderful. Other technicians have contributed as well and they all teach and explain things so well so I (who likes to think I know a thing or two about vehicles but dont) can understand what is happening so when they describe the various options of how to fix the car, I can give an informed decision about what I want.My car, being an 03 and having 250K+ miles on it was not only fixed this time last year but it also recently was acting up - the engine would crank and want to start it simply did not catch and hold and idle. I took it back over to them to diagnose the problem. Again, then were able to tell me exactly what was going on and the price points of what they could do for me as far as repairs went. All they ended up doing was cleaning out some parts that were filled with gunk (since its an old car with 250K+ miles on her) and she was back to her old self again. Our car still runs like a champ thanks to these guys. Would highly recommend!!!
Pros: Fast, loaner car, work completed right the first time, quality parts used. Warranty on parts and labor.Cons: more pricey than competitors.
Extremely helpful over the phone. Told me exactly what I needed to hear and what I needed to do next. Could not recommend enought!
I have enjoyed all of my visits to Mike Palmer. I have been going here for a number of years and every time I get such quality and trustworthy service. This is the place I will always go for my car’s needs!
Super friendly, efficient, and fair pricing! Can’t recommend Mike enough, he got us back on the road in no time!
The folks here all seemed very honest and helpful. They were very open about what work they thought was worth doing, and what wasnt worth doing due to the state of my vehicle. I verified some of their prices against other shops and everything seemed good here.Finding a shop I can trust is the most important thing to me; I dont want to spend all my time playing games and shopping around for work when my vehicle is out of commission, so Ill be bringing all my vehicles here for the forseeable future.
I was a walk in and was greeted by a sassy women who was not friendly at all. She ruined my experience and I will not be returning.
Prepare to be ripped off. I called this shop doing some comparison shopping for repair services. Numerous red flags and a complete unwillingness to quote beyond very round sky high prices.Edit:Seeing the owners response, I feel the need to respond. Evidently Mike Palmer doesn’t want you to comparison shop and instead just wants you to trust his shop, even while he concedes there’s a lot of ways a shop can take advantage of you, and that many do.Here the bottom line: after calling around to a good number of shops, and getting a range of estimates for a standard repair, Mike Palmer stood out for not being willing to engage other than to suggest “expect a grand an axel”. This when shops like Autograff (highly reputed in the area, if on the expensive side) were willing to email a written detailed estimate - which was a good deal lower than “a grand an axel”. Mike Palmer stood out for lack of transparency relative to peers, which is why I wrote the review.
Very knowledgeable and professional, handled a mishap that wasnt their fault very professionally and quickly.Down side, I will have to pass on there being a next time, you can work with repeating customers better on pricing especially when it comes to the excessive markup on parts.
Ive been going to Mike Palmer for the last 1.5 years and have had awesome experiences. Theyre always very clear on the safety concerns and what should be the priority work I need to get done on my car and what I can wait on. Mike and Vanessa have shared extra tips on how I can take better care of my car and help me leave with a really good understanding of the repairs and things I should keep a close eye on for the future. The last time I brought my car in they took my timeline into account - I needed to leave town that evening - and had the work done in just a few hours. I know they prioritized my car and valued my return service. Professional and personal feel to this place and these people. Its hard to find a mechanic I can fully trust, especially when car work can get so expensive. I really trust the word and quality of these folks! Highly reccommend.
The mostcompetent and honest guys around. Fantastic work. They get busy so schedule in advance.
Ive been going to this shop for 10-15 years now. Every time is a good experience. Theyre friendly, competent, and most of all honest. It can be difficult to find a good mechanic, but this place does everything right.
No bs, no unecessary repairs to get you to pay more, and a high amount of competence from everyone who works there. Would highly recommend this shop to everyone.
It takes a bit sometimes to get your car back, but the wait is well worth it. They are super knowledgeable, kind, and thorough. Very happy Ive stuck with this company for 3 visits now.
I brought my car in and they told me that they dont work on the type that I would be better off going elsewhere. Honest at least. Rare.
If youre looking for an honest shop, look no further. I took my Acura MDX here after noticing oil coming from the drivers side tire well. We drove from GA to SLC last week, so I figured something messed up on the road trip. They took it for a test drive, inspected it, and determined I must have just driven through an oil patch in the road. This is the type of honesty you look for in a repair shop. They now have our business as long as we live in Salt Lake City. Thank you, Mike Palmer Automotive!
Honest; detail oriented; free loaner!Top notch shop.
Mike and Vanessa were both really kind and helpful, and they let me know what was going on with car during the process, got it done well and efficiently, and ended up saving me money from what I was expecting it all to cost. I came here because when reading the reviews it seemed like real people left honest reviews because they wanted to instead of being incentivized to do so or that they paid another company to get them good reviews, and that’s how I felt talking to them, they are real people who care and do good work and I would highly recommend them because they’ll personally take care of you. (Trying to prove I’m a regular human with free will is hard, all that’s coming to mind is Shrek for some reason)
Very satisfied with the service that I just received. I was traveling and needed some suspension work done quickly so I came here based upon the online reviews. They were able to get the parts that I needed and make the repairs to my vehicle the next day. Vanessa was super helpful, the guys worked late to get my vehicle back to me when I needed it, the price was fair, there were no unexpected charges, and as far as I can tell, their repair seems to have fixed my problem. I would definitely come back if Im ever in the area again and needing service.
Very helpful, knowledgeable, and honest. Gave me options and pricings for everything, didnt pressure me to get things fixed that were not necessary, and even gave me a loaner car when they had to keep my vehicle over the weekend. 100% would recommend and will be coming back for my future needs and will be sending all my friends their way. Best experience Ive had with an auto shop in a long time
The staff really tries their hardest to meet your needs. Knowledgeable and willing to take the time to answer all your questions and explain things to you.
I am thoroughly impressed with the Mike Palmer team and how they took care of my car! I needed my brakes worked on and not only did they give me a great deal, they finished the job on the same day. I will most assuredly be back in the future for any and all car repairs. Thank you Mike Palmer and thank you to the team!
I have never been to a shop this great! They charge fair for their service, all repairs Ive taken have worked great, and they get the job done quick! Ive taken both of my cars here multiple times and always have had this experience.
All around great mechanic. They have the knowledge and expertise to help you out and there’s no gimmicks or sly talk to get you to pay more. This is a shop you can trust. Also if you need a custom exhaust done you’ve found the spot. Thanks Dave, Vanessa and Mike.
I would highly recommend this repair shop if you’re in the Salt Lake City area. Mike and his team are down to earth and made the repairs on my car fast and efficiently. My experience here was everything I hoped it to be. Very reliable and affordably priced!
Best mechanic experience that Ive had! Vanessa, the front of house staff, is a rockstar. Straight forward, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. Vanessa fought for me in regards to a warranty from a nightmare of an out of state repair that has been haunting me for the past several months. They also did work on a couple of other things that was brought to my attention which prevented a transmission catastrophe. I didnt feel pressure from them, just straight forward. All said and done, my rig drives like a dream and couldnt be happier. My only regret is not coming to Mike Palmer Automotive earlier. Thanks again!
The a/c in my 2017 civic isn’t working correctly. Apparently I have to take it to the dealership for the repair because it’s a widespread issue, so instead of doing some unneeded repair and charging me for it, Mike told me what to do and sent me on my way. I appreciate the honesty and will def give this place another try next time.
Short Story: Mike Palmer Automotive let me drive away with a bad axle that lasted 1000 miles and cost $2000...Long Story: I came in to replace a failing differential. In order to do this, its necessary to purchase a full rear axle assembly. They had found one that had 155k miles on it that was $1000. I wanted to get this work done fast and they assured me that they werent worried about possible problems about a high mile axle and they trusted their vendor. So I gave them the go-ahead and they replaced the axle (labor charges around $900).I get a call that it was installed properly and they went through the axle to make sure everything was good. HOWEVER they admitted that the axle was in pretty bad shape when they got it and they had to swap all of my parts from my old axle into my new (used) one. Then they had admitted that there was a whining noise coming from the rear diff of the axle. The service manager shrugged it off like it was no big deal and that the mechanics confirmed it was safe to drive. They had then sent me on my way.Fast forward to 1000 miles down the road, my rear diff is whining like crazy on all speeds over 25 mph and I even feel some gears slipping. Unfortunately, this happened the Friday before Memorial day, so I took the car in the shop Friday at 8am and talked to Mike about my situation. He said he wouldnt even be able to touch it until Tuesday and that the process of investigating the issue and contacting the vendor could take a long time. I needed this work done fast, so I bought an axle on KSL for $200 (with only 77k miles on it) and swapped it out myself. Now my car drives perfectly without the diff whine. The only reason I didnt give Mike Palmer Automotive one star is that they were willing to help me out as long as I was willing to wait for the entire process. I CANT BELIEVE that they had let me walk out of their shop with a bad axle. The whining noise should have been a major red flag for the mechanics and they should have returned the part (even if it was inconvenient for them). A failing differential on an axle is very dangerous and can lead to fatal accidents. It was irresponsible for them to leave me with a ~$2000 repair for a dangerously defective part. Event best case scenario of working with Mike Palmer, I would have probably waited a month would have been charged appropriately.Think twice about letting Mike Palmer Automotive install used parts in your car.
Prevented me from making unnecessary (and expensive) repairs, professional, and awesome to work with!
Came in for a simple brake light fix. I mentioned I had some time constraints and they had me taken care of in less than fifteen minutes. Great place!
Mike Palmer Automotive is absolutely AMAZING!! Ive been using them for a few years now an I will NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!
I have never encountered an automotive service with more intelligence behind the front counter. Vanessa provides thorough diagnostics of vehicle problems, in order of priority, so the vehicle owner knows what to expect over the coming months of operation; but she is also conversant about most makes and models from her considerable experience. Mike, Vanessa, and all of the mechanics at Mike Palmer Automotive are all good-natured, unlike many other shops I have seen where the staff tend to project an intolerance of the clientele. You can rest assured Mike Palmer Automotives charges are what they should be, and recommendations, work performed, and charges are transparent and coherent. Candidly, this shop has bailed me out of some difficult situations, and I give them my highest recommendation.
Im just traveling through SLC on a road trip, so I wanted to take my car to get looked at to make sure it was ok because i wasnt sure if it needed an oil change. i did a lot of searching online to find a trustworthy mechanic and thats how i found Mike Palmer. The other reviews are spot on. He wasnt pushy and honestly told me that i really didt need one yet. He even looked at my tires and put air in them. I know a lot of chain mechanics that would have just done the oil change regardless. I would 10/10 recommend these guys. They were so kind and helpful. I would absolutely go back.
Took my car in for a pre-buy auto check. They were super nice to get me in mid-day. They looked over everything thoroughly and gave me a good idea of what I was getting into since it was a salvage title vehicle. I would go to them again if I lived close by...but I dont. Vanessa was awesome and very knowledgable. I super appreciated all they did for me!!
I highly recommend Mike Palmer Automotive. My lovely girlfriend and soon-to-be fiancee brought her car in to get repaired. Unfortunately for her, the lemon of a car was from a sketchy dealership and was as old as her little sister. If I had a nickle for every mile on the car, I would be a millionaire. Also unfortunately for us, you could put the two of us into a room with a tire for 3 hours and we wouldnt be able to spin the thing. So, I googled some places, and Mike Palmer came up as a trustworthy, reliable place. They saw us within the day, replaced the fuel pump, and got us back on the road before nightfall. But then, a couple of days later, the old car gave out again, this time it was a connector cable which caused the car to stall in the middle of the road. We were stuck during their off-hours time, so I called up their go-to towing company, and the towing company pulled our car into the shop for them to look at on Monday. Not only did Mike Palmer not charge us for the towing, but they managed to find a connector cable and throw it in for free. These guys will take care of you and not take advantage of the fact that you dont even know what a lug nut is.Presumably, a lug nut is what we call incompetent and under-educated people like us who can barely work the radio on the car.Bonus: they made me look good in front of the in-laws. 5 stars.
I would give more stars if I could!!! Mike Palmer Automotive pretty much saved my life! I took my vehicle there for just a quick brake job, found out that my brakes were originally installed incorrectly. Mike explained it all to me in a clear and honest conversation. Now I can stop, safely and that is all thanks to Mike and his staff. I was so impressed with the service, I will now only go to Mike. This is a local company, that is honest and hard working. The staff is so amazing with the communication, and the texts they continue to impress me. So much so, I have already taken my other vehicles there for updating. Thank you Mike, thank you for being just a really awesome and keeping me safe.
I tried to get a quote on replacing ball joints to get the run around about pricing. If a place cant check on parts and labor and give you a exact price then they have shady practices. I would never recomend this place to anyone. It took 6 emails to get a ish price so I know that they dont use labor guides and charge what they want to for labor.
Mike and his team are honest, straightforward, and incredibly helpful. This place is super busy, so call well in advance to get an appointment and have work done. These guys do honest work at a fair price, and I would trust them with any of my cars. Absolutely fantastic.
I really liked their pre-used vehicle inspection. They sent me all the info electronically and call me to go over what they found. Good service, clean report. I highly recommend them.
I normally dread Auto Shops and Mechanics! This time was different. I saw the awesome reviews online and decided to take a chance on Mike Palmer Automotive. I am happy with my decision. They were upfront with the time frame it would take for them to get to my car and also didn’t try and tell me a bunch of stuff needed to be repaired. The price was less than I was expecting too. They were honest with the SINGLE repair that needed to be done and finished way faster than I was expecting!! I will definitely be taking my car back to Mike Palmer Automotive if I ever need repairs done again.
Hes Outstanding, respectful and polite. Most important he is honest and doesnt over charge like all the other people laces
Mike Palmer Auto really makes customer service a priority. Vanessa, an employee at Mike Palmer Auto, is always so kind. She walks you through your options and never pressures you into fixing something. Its always a positive experience interacting with her.Ive even had the chance to interact with Mike, the man himself. He is a little less warm than Vanessa. But he seems very competent and is always very professional.I highly recommend this place if you need any repairs done.
Mike is great! They are very reputable.
I had an issue come up the night before leaving for a road trip. Took it in first thing in the morning to get checked out and they were able to get it taken care of right away. Great communication and customer service! Will definitely return for other automotive issues.
My car failed the Salt Lake County emissions test requirement, putting out 4 codes to be sorted out by someone who knows what theyre doing. I took my Chevy Trailblazer to Mike Palmer Automotive because it was near my house, and looked clean, well-managed and secure. They completed the work promptly, keeping in touch with me by phone throughout the repair process, and giving me a clear estimate of charges before beginning the work. They even secured a loose bumper without charging extra, and the entire job came in a little under the original estimate (which has never happened to me before anywhere)! Im very pleased with the work, and would recommend this repair shop to others looking for a solid deal with no pressure to throw in extras when you already feel bad enough about having to come up with repair money in the first place.
Honest Mechanics what more could you want how about they explain why you need particular parts. I loved my experience there, great service and knowledge. 30 solid years open!
We have had Mike work on several of our cars and hes always fast, fair, and incredibly professional. We dont live close by but its so worth the drive to get to him because I know we can count on him to give us the real story on our car and to be super fair on pricing and options. Customer for life.
Mike and Vanessa and their team did an amazing job fixing the ball bearings on our Denali. Not to mention that while our truck was in their shop, we were able to borrow one of their loaner vehicles to get around until the truck was being fixed. When it comes to communication and following up, Vanessa was definitely on point. Definitely a place I would recommend to anyone in need of getting something fixed and in need of temporary transportation on a budget until the job is done. Just keeping it real!!!
This is the only mechanic we use. They’ve answered a few of my panicked calls and handled it all with aplomb.
Weve been bringing our vehicles to Mike Palmer for years. We have several older vehicles, and he and his team have done a great job of keeping them going. They are great at discussing your vehicles needs and keeping you informed of the repair status. We highly recommend this shop.
I bought a used car as-is, and decided to go to Mike Palmer based solely on the reviews and google review score. They were incredibly accommodating, going through every little thing that could be fixed with my car, and piece by piece, told me what needs fixing now and what can wait. They explained why things were more pertinent and why others I didnt need to worry about til much later in the cars life.Super honest, kind, and thorough, with reasonable prices to boot. Car has been running like a dream since I brought it in.
I recently bought a 1994 Ford F150 and took it to a Ford dealership to look over before taking it to Mike Palmer Automotive. I was not impressed with the experience at the Ford dealership so I checked out reviews online for mechanics. My experience at Mike Palmer Automotive far exceeded my expectations. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. When I got the call regarding what kind of work needed to be done each item was explained fully and described what kind of a difference that would make in driving, safety, and the longevity of the vehicle. I have never had any mechanic explain things so well. It was awesome. When I went to pick up the vehicle we went through the itemized list again. The mechanic who worked on it and drove it came out and explained things as well. It was an incredible experience. Best mechanic Ive ever been to! Highly recommended.
I wouldnt take my car anywhere else. Theyre super transparent, you can sometimes snag a loaner car while your car is in the shop, quality work, and they give you options. For example, they will give you options on replacement product quality and pricing. The staff is great. As you can see, the list goes on haha. Youll love taking your car here!
I had a great experience here. They were very clear, honest, and to the point. It took me a few days to figure out my finances and they were very patient with me. They got my fuel pump and filter changed along with an inspection for the same price as repairpal showed was the average in this area for only the fuel pump done. Thank you very much. I really appreciated the service and definitely will return for future needs.Aaron Brandenburg
To begin with, Im a bit hesitate to give 5 stars because the place doesnt wash your car, but their service makes up for it.I first went there for my trucks 60k service. A few places quoted me higher prices than the dealership. While Mikes estimate wasnt much cheaper than the dealership, he was upfront about everything and told me hed only charge me for the works he actually does, not according to the checklist. So off I went, and had the job done. This other day my buddy changed the O2 sensor of his BMW. He asked me to take the car to the dealership to clear the light. Well, as you mightve guessed, BMW wanted to charge me $128. They told me its gonna take about half an hour for the test, then some more test, then possibly some repair, AFTER I told them what caused the light going off and everything. So I decided to just take the car to Mike Palmer: I didnt mind paying for things (in this case its not even my money), but I wanna my money goes to honest businesses. To my surprise, Mike Palmer didnt even charge me for anything. They just made sure that I knew whats going on, then cleared the light, all within 10 minutes.Today I told another friend of mine to go to Mike Palmer for his A/C work. An honest place like this deserves more businesses, not that they desperately need any (as far as I can tell, they are nearly fully booked all the time).
These guys helped me out BIG TIME. My car broke down outside SLC (Im from Wisconsin) and they were able to get my heads and valves redone for me within a week! They put in a ton of work for me and went above and beyond what was required of them, putting in extra work and small parts at no extra charge. Would 100% recommend Mike Palmer Automotive to anyone!
Honest, effective, and clear communication. I highly recommend them. Mike and Vanessa do a great job together.
These guys gave me the best mechanic experience of my life. They were upfront with all costs, gave me fair estimates, and fixed my car way faster than expected.
My son recommended Mike, so I’ve been taking cars there for a while. No I’ve got my granddaughter going too. Honest, hardworking. I would recommend them to anyone.
Speedy Oil Change, and Quality InfoI came in for a simple oil change and told the staff about my future plans for upgrading vehicles. Within a half hour, I left knowing vastly more about what choice I wanted to make and what that would mean for vehicle servicing down the road. Quality information, and a speedy oil change to boot. Ill be bringing my vehicles in for servicing as well!
I contacted Mike Palmer Auto in regards to an engine replacement for my Acura. They were very polite and prompt in getting me a quote with various options. They also spoke with me to assure I was aware of timing, technical considerations and price. I didnt end up going with them for the particular project but based on the conversations I had with Vanessa and Mike, I wouldnt hesitate to have them work on my vehicle. They were very professional and knowledgeable. Ill certainly be contacting them again to get a quote if I have another project or issue that comes up.
I bought a truck from Mike for a fair price according to the blue book value of excellent condition. In the first couple of weeks I noticed it overheating on the highway. Since owning it, I have had to replace the majority of the cooling system (despite the fact that he rebuilt the radiator), redo some of the electrical (the fuse was recurrently blowing on the tail lights), and the truck also needs a new exhaust manifold. Sure, I bought the truck as is, but I bought it from a mechanic who sold it to me at the excellent condition price. If you asked my opinion, I would say this isnt a thorough establishment. I didnt take it back into them for obvious reasons, preferring to ensure things were done right.I didnt intend to trash these guys, but this was my experience. I didnt bring it back in because when I bought it, they literally told me they wouldnt fix anything that broke as it wasnt being sold under warranty. Some of the things were basic inspection items (I had to replace 1 of 3 engine grounds, the battery ground (basic basic... ahem) so I wasnt too thrilled and figured Id be more comfortable fixing things myself. Its easy to respond to my review and make me look sinister, but I simply did not trust them after having to fix a number of basic things (if I am pulling the cylinder head, you better believe I am going to anticipate a careful inspection of the associated parts)).
I had a great experience here at Mike Palmer Automotive. I made an appointment, but for some reason wasnt in the system--Mike told me it was okay and hed give me my oil change anyway. I only waited 30-45 minutes, they didnt try to sell me anything I didnt need, all my fluids are topped off, and my blinking maintenance light is off now. The employees there are really nice and the waiting room is clean. Will definitely be back
Bought an audi from a private seller - emissions and safety failed! Took my car in to Mike Palmer Auto worked with Mike and Vanessa. Both were really friendly and great! Gave me full detail on the problems and estimates. They also replaced my marker bulb as a courtesy!Prices were affordable and honest! No catches and straight forward. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Thank you Mike Palmer Auto! You just gained another customer.
We found Mike Palmer Automotive from reading google reviews so we took a chance and took our first car there. We could not be more impressed with the honesty, great communication and hard work these guys put into their work. Mike and Val both called us to update us on the progress of our car throughout the day and when they found an issue, they were honest about their opinion and gave us multiple different options. I never felt pressured to do something on my car but I felt much more confident with their honesty and transparency. I have never had a mechanic give such a detailed receipt that explains what each part costs and a detailed description of the labor. I couldnt recommend these guys more. We loved the work they did we ended up taking all 3 of our cars there. Thanks for everything you guys did, we found our new favorite SLC mechanic!
We had a great experience taking our 2002 Subaru Outback to Mike Palmer Automotive. We were able to talk with Mike one on one about what was going on with our car and he explained the situation clearly and in a way we could understand. He was very honest and opted to try a conservative approach to our problem rather than making us buy a more expensive option and replace more parts than we needed. Vanessa was extremely helpful and knowledgeable as well. We highly recommend going to Mike Palmer Automotive in Salt Lake. We will be taking our cars to this location from here on out.
I called getting a second opinion on my air conditioner because it doesnt work. I told Mike the make/model/year of my car and he told me that even though it may cost up to $2300 to fix the air conditioner, he advised me to keep the car and get it fixed because this particular car really holds its value well and we would not be basically throwing away money.
Ive got to give it to these guys - they are fair and honest. Took my car in for a radiator job expecting a full replacement. They ran some tests and changed out the radiator cap. Apparently it wasnt holding pressure. They could have easily fleeced me for $400 and I wouldnt have known any better. They were upfront and honest with me instead.I love finding a mechanics shop I can trust! Total charges came to around $10.
The best experience I’ve ever had at an auto shop. So trustworthy and communicative! They have a lifetime customer!
I have been going to Mike Palmer for decades, way back when he was running a Meineke franchise. I have always been happy with his work.
Mike Palmer and his team did a quality repair quickly. Their communication is excellent, they kept me informed and up to date on progress. They did a timing belt and water pump on my Honda Pilot for a competitive price with factory parts. I will use them again.
They saved me a ton of money by being honest and straight forward about the repairs needed. I had a quote from another shop that was really high. Mike told me he guessed there was a good chance all the work suggested by the other shop was unnecessary. He was right. They were able to fix the part instead of replacing it.
Mike recently worked on my 2006 Mitsubishi Endeavor. I knew a had an issue with the alternator. He quickly diagnosed an issue with a pulley, fixed it, and had my car back to me the next day. I have nothing but good things to say about him and his crew after visiting in the office for a few minutes. Very professional. Honest. A great guy, mechanic, and shop!
A truly honest mechanic!Brought our car in thinking we needed new head gaskets and he thankfully didnt find a problem and was honest and didnt create any problems! I will make the trip from Southern Utah county to see Mike in the future. I was very impressed.
I was driving from CA to VT in an older Ford Transit van with a wheel bearing issue (among other things). I had gotten the run-around from several other mechanics along the way when I found Mikes shop. He was straight-forward, sensitive to my time issues ( needed same-day service ) and not even the tiniest bit condescending. They let me use a loaner car at no extra charge ($1 for the fuel I replaced), and my dog and I had a lovely romp in the beautiful city park down the road while Mikes staff wrestled with my rusty nasty wheel bearing. The price was fair, and I was on my way in no time. My trip was far more pleasant, and safer, thanks to Mike and his staff. I am pleased to report I made it home to Vermont with no vehicular incidents (and without that annoying unbearing-able noise). I chose Mike Palmers shop because of all the great reviews online. Let me join the chorus. Also, Mike was a great representative for Salt Lake City, for which I will now evermore have fond thoughts. Thank you!
As far as garages go, these are the good guys. I had my car towed (AAA) there to have some service done after a spark plug blow out. If you have them tow it, and you get services done at their shop, the tow will be free. They also offer after-hours emergency consultation. My car was there for a couple days, and the issue was fixed. Since it was already at the shop, I decided to kill two birds with one stone and have some other minor work done. They offered me a quote for control arms. When it ended up costing slightly more, they stuck with the original estimate. Keith is very easy to work with, and Vanessa is very helpful. They also offer free loaner cars (NOT rental cars), which is very rareKeep in mind that this is a business, not a charity. Businesses employ people, and they need to make money. That being said, the transparency here is amazing. They will outline each cost, where it comes from, and do their best to keep it reasonable. So while they might not let you order your own parts, they will do their best to keep the cost down, even at the occasional sake of losing out on a full profit. If you get the monthly newsletters, there are often coupons and helpful tidbits of information to facilitate the next repair. I would recommend Mike Palmer to anyone.Needing a car repair is a crappy situation to be in, but these guys went out of their way to make my experience very easy, and I personally thank Mike, Keith and Vanessa for doing so =)
I never write reviews. They are the best auto service Ive been to. Informative, timely, and very mindful of their customers. They took the extra time to show me some auto-care tips, as well as fully explain why certain parts of the car need repair, etc. etc. THEY OFFER FREE LOANER VEHICLES while yours is getting fixed, and will check out a car for you before you purchase if youre thinking of buying. I am extremely happy with their service; theyve found another loyal customer.
I had a Toyota Highlander with 116k miles on it when it suddenly started running really rough. I took it to a nearby shop immediately, but eventually had it towed to Mike Palmer to get a trust-worthy diagnosis. Vanessa and Mike walked me through the diagnosis and recommendations every step of the way. They called Toyota for me several times and even tried to help me get it covered under the expired warranty. They educated me and were patient with me as I relayed questions and answers back and forth, while I double-checked everything with my cousin who is a mechanic but lives in Michigan. They sent me photos of the engine (out of the compartment) under repair and saved the broken part that led to all of this (a valve spring). It was a tough decision, I had to commit to a very expensive repair or sell the vehicle to a mechanic, or for parts. I may have been able to get a couple thousand out of a vehicle that I had already paid over $30k for but wasnt finished financing, and should have been worth $14k if it hasnt busted. It was important to me to know the vehicle would last a long time if I committed to the repair cost. Mike carefully walked me through the decision and helped me weigh my options without pushing me to do anything. That was in May -- six months and 9k miles ago - Ive been driving it up and down Parleys Canyon almost every weekday on the repaired engine. It is running like a champ! Even though Im still highly disappointed in Toyota for the lack of quality, and the engine design that led to the need for and high cost of repair, I am so grateful for Mile Palmer Automotive for their competent, quality service. I will always highly recommend them, and am grateful for my friends who recommended them to me...laura
Mike Palmer Automotive is great! I have brought my car in several times and will continue to bring my car in when necessary. They often do not charge for minor things if you consistently use their services!
Im surprised at the negative reviews. Ive had work done and honestly cant think of any place Id rather go for major repairs. I do all the minor repairs myself. Honest shop, friendly staff. You cant go wrong. Although Ive never had a problem, Im certain that any would be worked out reasonably. Give them a try, youll be very satisfied with the result
Palmers was the 3rd shop I stopped in to see and Mike took the time to look at my car shortly after I got there. With an exhaust pipe tied up by wire, I needed help. He talked me through what needed to be done, gave me a price (which was lower than the other shops Id been to previously) and finished the job fast.I was all smiles driving my now quiet car home.Fair prices, fast service, and personal customer care.Thank you for saving my car.
My husband and I have used Mike Palmer Automotive exclusively over the past years. We are always amazed at their service quality, loaner cars, cost of service and helping us in all aspects of our cars lives.... they are our friends and we love them and support them and talk to everyone about them. Each month when we get their ads of their specials, we scan it and send it to friends, family, and clients. Its not often that you find a car repair place like they are who really really take good care of you and you can sleep at night knowing they will always be there to help you when you need it...
These guys were awesome. I had to get an alternator replaced, and thought it would take a couple days, especially due to a holiday. But they got it done in a day and a half, and it runs great. Great service, great price, and great communication.
I am Happy, Relieved and confident. Customer service provided went above and beyond any and all expectations. Grateful to feel confident in the service provided and the company willing and able to back up their work. As a woman with a car needing service i can not express in words how refreshing and important it is to get back in my car knowing it has been well serviced and I can depend on the company to help in the future.
Ive been going to Mike for about a year now and he and his crew have been nothing but professional and honest. In an industry that has a reputation for being shady they really stand out. I recently had a big repair that needed to be done and Mike gave me a VERY fair price and they got the work done in less than a day, and they even gave me a loaner car while mine was in the shop.Needless to say Ill be going to Mikes shop for years to come and referring everyone I know.So do yourself a serious favor and go to Mike for your auto repairs and maintenance. You deserve honesty and professionalism when it comes to you auto work and these guys deliver, hands down.
These guys are awesome! Vanessa is SO nice and they are very fair with how much they charge. I feel like they genuinely care about me whenever Ive gone there. I always recommend this place to all of my friends!
Always super helpful. I love this place
I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty that was having a few problems. I had taken the Jeep to numerous repair shops in Salt Lake City and one in Murray as well as taking it to a Jeep Dealer. Every time I would get the same response from the repair shops. They all said that they couldnt find anything wrong with the Jeep but here is the bill. One dealer even said that they fixed the problem and the funny thing is that a couple hours later it had the same problem. So I took it back to them and they said that there is nothing wrong, I had an auto parts store do a code read each of the times and they all read the it was a misfire.I had the Jeep towed to Mike Palmer Automotive and ran they found out that the two of six cylinders were shot. I ended having to replace the engine on the jeep because it was going to be cheaper to replace the engine instead of getting it fixed. If the previous repair shops would have taken the time to really run a diagnostic check on the car they would have found out that there was a problem with the cylinders. Mike gave me the pros and the cons of just fixing the motor or replacing it. He spoke with me about the various engine manufactures that are out there and why we should go with a Jasper Engine. So I did my research and found that Jasper Engines are rated very highly for performance and reliability. The cost of the replacement was what was quoted and I had it back when promised. Mike and his staff are a awesome group and they stand behind what they promise. I will use Mike Palmer Automotive on a routine basis. If you are looking for a good mechanic that is not only good but also has a personality, then take it to Mike Palmer Automotive.
Really professional and straightforward. I wanted a list of what maintenance my car would need over time, and they provided it. I didnt feel pressured to do any of the work right then, and they were honest with me that nothing needed to be done immediately (apart from my oil change).
They always take really good care of me here! Shout out to Vanessa for thinking ahead and making suggestions to help me!
