Such an amazing informative museum and its free!! They have an exhibit that changes ever so often and a tordano room where you learn all about them and can feel whats its like when there is one! Lots of history about Salina!
Learning about our cities is fun and important to help us remember the American dream and the efforts taken to hold on to it.
Such an amazing place! Total surprise... Theres so much to see and learn for the whole family to enjoy! They even have a tornado simulator! Free admission but I made sure to stop at the gift shop to support!! We will def be returning :)
My grandson and I enjoyed this place a lot!! Highly recommend 😉
Great place to take the kids to learn about local history. Lots of hands on exhibits for the to play with.
We stopped in on a whim, and were very pleasantly greeted. As someone who just moved to Salina, I had been curious about its history, and this museum has a lot to tell about the area since dinosaurs roamed, to present.Driving by on I-70 or I-135? Grab a bite downtown on Santa Fe street and stop by the Smokey Hill Museum. It’s free!
My little human and his mom was not thrilled to hear we were going to a museum, but once we got there they didnt want to leave. They have a bunch of hand on activities for the kids and my big human also loved the hands on exhibits they have. Did I mention it was free you cant beat free we spent 2 hours in the museum. If your looking for something free to do I recommend the Smokey Hill Museum!(they have a old freeplay pinball machine)Check us out on Instagram @g.o.a.t_adventures
Really incredible. They have taken great precautions with the pandemic. I saw someone wiping stuff down multiple times while we were there. The exhibits were interesting and had just the right mix of interaction for the kiddos.
I help up on the park fun bags
The museum is a must see. They have a new exhibit about the 1950s thats very well put together. All the exhibits are very interesting. Lots of hands on exhibits for children. And a tornado simulator that you should experience.
Ive enjoyed the history of what this museum offered. It was awesome seeing different sites of history and enjoyed the lady at the service desk!
HELLO ALL!! Today I went to the Smokey Hill Museum and had a BLAST! I may be over 20 yrs old but boy, oh boy did I get to have fun at the Curiosity Shop! They even have a tornado simulator! And it is loud hahahahaha! But it was so much fun. Il definitely be to ng again soon! The museum is clean and tidy. There are multiple Sanitizer Stations throughout the building stocked and ready to be used. It has a small but beautiful shoppe next to the entrance desk. If u enjoy history and science then check the out! Right now they have an interactive bomb shelter. But as always, make sure to wear your mask!!Shameless plug: if you want stupid and cringey fun, check out my TikTok! @v3xas24Stay safe and have fun yall!BYE BYE!!
Hands down one of the best museums Ive seen in Kansas thus far and it is so kid friendly you cant help but give it a 5 star, (Id rate rate it a 10 if I could)!! They have the tornado simulator, a giant globe atom, electricity machine, Indian artifacts, just much going on!! Seriously, if youre anywhere near to Salina you really need to stop at the Smoky Hill museum. 8-a.m-5:p.m. Monday through Saturday. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆👌👍
Great free attraction! My toddlers love going here. We love all the hands on activities.
I only stopped here for some information and the front doors were easily assessable and the women inside were very responsive to my question .
Free admission, does accept donations. Very good museum about the history of the area. Also takes you through different decades of what came about and things that were popular. There are kids interactive areas throughout to keep them entertained. I would recommend a visit.
A lot of hands on learning and a cool gift shop.
This is a hidden gem in Salina. Amazing museum that is ABSOLUTELY FREE! They change their exhibits regularly. Whoever curates the exhibits really does a great job. Theres always something interesting to look at. I especially like the interactive childrens area and the tornado simulator. They also have a very nice gift shop carrying many products from local Kansas artisans. Grab your family and enjoy a morning or afternoon at this museum without breaking the bank and learning a little something, too!
Super children friendly. Children of all ages from my toddler to my teens. Very clean, well kept and modern design. Super educational and informative. Easy to follow and understand the very engaging displays. Loads of hands on activities for everyone in the family. Cute and affordable gift shop where you want to buy everything. And most of all, wonderful friendly staff. My children dont normally enjoy history and museums, but this one they absolutely loved. Will definitely be visiting again very soon.
Had a great time alot of fun
We stopped here for a break from driving with our 1 year old. It is a great museum! Everyone working there was so friendly. The exhibits are really well done, and my son got a chance to run around a bit before we got back on the road.
We went into about 30 minutes before closing expecting to be able to look around and The woman there was very very rude she coughed an attitude with us and was complaining because she had to do her job I dont think I will come back to this museum as long as that cranky old womans working there
Very pleasant people.
Hands on stuff and was lots of fun
Amazing place! Very neat and hands on experience for kids and adults. Not your typical museum, it is definitely more than that. Use old fashioned radio equipment, race to put the gas mask on, make your own tornado, and play an old fashioned pinball machine. Lots of flyers on different eras you can take home to read later.
A very nice museum with plenty of hands on experiences for the kids (and adults). And with free admission, this a great place to spend 2-3 hours. Also, make sure to visit the Kansas oriented gift shop for interesting and unique merchandise.
So fun and interactive! Great for kids and adults who want to learn about Kansas history or just want to have some fun.
Really nice and interesting place, truly enjoyed it. Lots of hands on for children. Its free but please make a donation, loved this small town museum.
Lots of interesting exhibits for all ages. My Grands love to visit- other tornado simulators can cost $5! Please repair some things upstairs!
My grandchildren and I enjoyed the museum during Spring Break. The children really like the different experiences avd hands-on apparatus! The tornado wind tunnel was definitely an eye-opener!
My granddaughter and her friend loved it. Nice and clean. Interesting
Great museum! Kids LOVED it! Highly recommended. Worth the trip to Salina Kansas.
Great place to visit, local or out of town. Terrific staff and lots of hands on learning. Especially awesome for kids!
This is a great museum for kids. We had 3 with us, aged 12, 10, and 8, and they really enjoyed themselves. To get the full experience, you have to stop at the front desk and pick up the scavenger hunt (different ones for different ages), and youve got to spend some time in the lab working on solving the mysteries. The scavenger hunt has things to find throughout the museum, and keeps the kids looking and reading. The lab area is really wonderful, too. I dont remember the exact name of this exhibit, but kids work on mysteries where they go to different stations, observe/read, and answer questions to solve. Someone has put some time into this, and we could have spent a good hour just in that spot.In the end, the kids also received little prizes for completing the scavenger hunt. Really cool
Fun museum. If I had kids, they would have liked it. I enjoyed playing with making a tornado from mist! Also, theres a legit pinball machiene upstairs. Kids these days dont understand. Gotta check it out!
Kids had a lot of fun at the museum. Not crowded, fun place to visit.
The staff is friendly and helpful. Their exhibits are informative and eye-catching, their events are fun and exciting, and their gift shop has the cutest stuff! Definitely visit when you have the chance!
I enjoy this museum. Not only does it give you the local history of Salina but also gives you history of Kansas. They work hard to change up the floor plan and displays. I personally love the bookstore as it is one of the few places around to find great Kansas gift ideas, handmade KS artisan gifts, and Kansas history books. Plus, it’s all free!! A must see while in Salina.
