If I could vote no stars I would. I used to use SS every time I moved. They used to be reliable, courteous, and professional. I booked a move with them that was scheduled for 10am on a weekday. I took the day off work and waited... an hour passes and I call them, the put me on holdto track down the drivers and then tell me the move booked before me had a delay they were wrapping it up and would be there in an hour. 2 hours later, nothing. I call again and get the same answer. Still nothing at 4:30 I call to find out what was going on and am told the same thing with some apologies. 5:30 still no one I call the after hours number. Same story. At 6 I get a call asking if I could reschedule for the next day. I say no, that I had taken the day off of work and needed it done that day. The movers finally showed a bit later and completed our across town move at 12:30 at night.The next day I was called to be given an apology, but there was no interest in giving me a discount or making amends except to promise if I ever needed to move again they would give me a large discount and take extra special care of me...So I called when moving again, and asked to speak to a manager they said one would call me back. The same guy called me back and asked what he could do. I explained that they had botched my last move and that I was told I should call and speak to a manager if I ever needed their serviced again. He said he would have one call me. Again, the same guy called back and offered me a 10c/hour discount- which was still more expensive than a competitors price. I said no that wouldn’t do but I would like to talk to a manager. I never did, no one ever called me back. The competitor was much more professional and ended up costing less.
I tried to get these guys set up for a move, I gave him very specific instructions three times that we needed a lift gate. then they wanted attack on a fee to be at the house at a certain time and then they want to tack on a fee to schedule it on another certain time and just became obvious that they didnt want my business
This company is so unprofessional. If I could give them a zero, I would. They damaged almost every piece of furniture we have. They were so rough and obviously didnt care if they nicked or dented our furniture. Their truck was filthy inside and all the dirt transferred to my stuff. My mattress had to be cleaned even though it was in a mattress bag. Both box springs had holes in the fabric from them sliding them around. All of my daughters nursery furniture has to be repaired. My $2,000 maple dresser has a huge gouge in it now. One of the guys even stole my husbands sunglasses. Thank God my husband was smart enough for us to move our electronics ourselves.We picked Starving Students because we like the idea behind the business. The men who showed up definitely were not students of any kind. One of the men was covered in gang tattoos and the other had a huge hole in the middle of his shirt. Not professional at all. I did not make a complaint to the company because my husband wouldnt let me. He was worried that since these guys know where we live that they may try to retaliate. Thats how shady they were.Buy the time you fix or replaced damaged/stolen items... they are no savings at all.
Like 2 previous reviewers, if there was a score BELOW 0, I would assign it to them!Thankfully, I never got beyond trying to have a chat conversation with one of their specialist who flat out REFUSED to give me a straight answer re whether or not they would allow us to do our own loading and subsequent off-loading of goods, and thus saving us the cost of having to employ their personnel, as we just wanted a quote for their company driving our belongings from Point A to Point B.When I asked the courteous and knowledgeable specialist for a STRAIGHT Yes or No answer, (as to whether or not they offered a Do It Yourself option) he terminated the chat-session. At least I learned my lesson BEFORE they so much as showed up at our front door!AVOID these courteous and caring people!!
On the map, they were the closest movers to my apartment in Sacramento. When I called, they told me they dont service Sacramento.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS. We’ve used Starving Students for years. This was such a disaster and utter failure. We will never use them again.Scenario:We had a last minute need for movers, and called Starving Students. They assured us — on the phone and in writing/contract — that booking them for moving services the next day was doable.NOPE. Movers were supposed to come between 8a-12p. By 10:30, the driver called and let me know that they wouldn’t make the window; said they’d be there around 1.1pm passes, no word, no answer to phone calls or texts. I call the Starving Students office for assistance, reach Renee in customer service. SHE SUGGESTS THAT I CALL “the contractor and see if he will tell me exactly where he is.”I let Renee know that I was uncomfortable with that, as I didn’t hire the contractor; Starving Students did. Renee said she understood and that she would see what she could do. By 3:30, TWO HOURS LATER, did not hear back from her.3:30pm: I call the Starving Students office and get Renee. I ask for an update. She puts me on hold for 8 mins. Then David answers and says he’s here to help.I explained to David that there was no way the driver, who still has not shown, would be able to pack items, take a 3 hour drive, and unload them at my house before I have to leave at 8:30pm. David agrees, and asks what he can do to help. I suggest that they pay for STORAGE for a week, and deliver when I get back. David says, okay, let me work on this. Puts me on hold for 18 mins. Comes back and says he can’t find the “people that can approve the storage expense. Tells me not to hold anymore and he’ll callback. NEVER CALLS BACK.6pm: MOVERS FINALLY ARRIVE. Says that Starving Students NEVER contacted them about the timing/storage issue (not cool, Renee and David). Mover says they’ll put my stuff in their storage for free.Silence for 45 mins.Movers leave because there is no storage for my stuff.DO NOT USE THESE UNPROFESSIONAL MOVERS. TAKE YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE.
