So today, June 19, 2020 around 5:00 p.m be $105 something so when my fiance went to pay the card was declined for a reason that didnt make sense. So we proceeded to try running the debit card again but it was declined. At first we thought ok maybe we are entering the wrong pin so we tried running it again by entering another pin that we commonly use but also didnt go through. By this time about 30 minutes had gone by and my fiance had attempted paying four times with the first two transactions saying declined and the last two saying wrong pin. At this point I began to become very upset because right before entering the store I made sure to check my balance and I had a balance of about $119 and some change. Things started getting a little heated and none of this was making any sense so we started heading back to the Volunteers of America shelter where we are currently staying at just around the corner on 9th Street and L Street. Due to COVID-19 the shelter has a curfew in place that starts at 5:00 p.m. Anyways once back to the shelter we checked out statement online regarding the card used at the Mini Mart and to our surprise the cashier or owner whatever he was had taking the money off of our card and stole the money without giving us anything we were trying to buy. We have digital online proof of the statement that the money was taking out of the account and all that is left over is a remainder of $13 and something cents. Weve shopped here many times and never had an issue but this is absolutely wrong and we will be filing a police report because really all we want and need is our money back! I would never go back back there again he was extremely rude and a down right theif.

This is a tiny convenience store, which is fine. The man working there was pleasant until I asked him to run my visa debit card as credit, because there is a sign that says 69 cents for doing an “ATM” transaction. He then stated that the charge is also applied to credit transactions, so it doesn’t matter. I stated there was no notice or sign that stated there is an additional surcharge (high!) for credit transactions, but he did not care. He became rude and said, “You will get the same answer from my manager.” I didn’t ask to speak with a manager, nor did I feel that attitude was appropriate. I told him there is no sign, that’s a high surcharge, and I will not return. You’d think they’d want clientele that isn’t only homeless EBT customers, and would get rid of fees that are unusual and nonsensical, but this experience only cemented my decision to make this my first and only trip here. It’s too bad, as there are many corporate and state agencies nearby, and this store would do very well if it wasn’t running itself as a dump that uses fees to take advantage of the homeless.

Over charges on almost everything be careful if you have to go in this little hole in the wall store, every thing is thrown about if you want a Coke you have to dig it out of a pile of Sprites
