LOVE THIS COMPANY!!! They have an amazing selection of veggie/vegan friendly backpacking meals. My favorite are a couple of the cold soak meals and the non oatmeal breakfasts. It’s hard to find a non-oatmeal breakfast without meat in it from other sources and it makes multi day trips more interesting to be able to switch it up . The cold soak meals are also amazing when you want and interesting lunch with no water boiling required. I have been extremely happy with all of the meals I have tried so far. They all have good flavor, texture, and nutrition content. My carnivorous friends have also really liked some of the meals :)

Yum! This food was delicious and the service was fantastic. I needed the weekender kit quickly and got it right away. I loved every meal and snack. I even tried to lick the cheesy spread packet because it was so good. It was well portioned and planned out for my 2 night/3 day trip. Its hard to find healthy vegetarian+gluten free tasty dehydrated meals, so I was so pleased with the quality and deliciousness of the food. Personally, Im more of a savory/low sugar person so I think next time Ill pick and choose the items to match my preferences. But the weekender is great in a pinch. Yes, there will be a next time and and next time and a next time that I order this product.v

Outdoor Herbivore is my only source for healthier vegan backpacking meals instead of those store bought brands. They have outstanding customer service and always get my orders filled and shipped quickly.

EXPERIENCE: Im a vegetarian and my husband is a hardcore NOT vegetarian, but Outdoor Herbivore has become our go-to choice for camping and backpacking food.PRODUCTS: Everything weve ordered from them has been delicious, but the chili and the pesto matchsticks are definitely my favorite! Theres not a bunch of bulky packaging, which saves me a lot of time from having to repackage my food before a trip. I actually find the portion sizes listed on the packaging to be pretty spot on. Normally my husband and I will split one meal for breakfast, and at dinner, well each have our own meal. Its not a ridiculous amount of food, but its totally satisfying, even for someone who doesnt eat Barbie portions. (If hiker hunger is ever a concern, the different soups are actually kind of perfect because its easy to make part of a package in my collapsible mug for a side dish instead of just snacking on random extra junk food.) The nutrition facts are also pretty reasonable. I find it to be just enough carbs, protein, and calories to sustain me comfortably without making me feel gross and uncomfortable.CUSTOMER SERVICE: After having placed a few orders with them at this point Ive never had any issues with customer service. Actually, they have gone out of their way to make sure I had a good experience with them. My orders also ship within a reasonable amount of time...Im in the U.S. and normally receive my stuff within about a week.

Delicious, filling, healthy meals at a great price! The switchback stuffer is my favorite, theres so much flavor and its so filling! Shipping is also fast! Will definitely keep buying from Outdoor Herbivore and recommend to all of my hiking friends!

Ordered some vegan options to try before the trail, just got it today and mixed up the hummus which was terrific but the 2 packs of crackers were nothing but crumbs. Still good but we sprinkled them on the hummus and ate it with a spoon. I supposed they would get smashed flat on the trail, but in the bear container not this flat. Ill report back as we try the other meals.

Ive been ordering their food for my last three trips and I keep discovering new favorites...my current one is Lemongrass Thai Curry. All their meals are super healthy with no nasty preservatives or tons of sodium and taste DELICIOUS! Great customer service and quick shipping, too !

I have ordered through this company several times and the quality is consistently GREAT! The food tastes wonderful and the shipping is quick. I placed my order in the morning two days ago, and it arrived here today! It is shipped from California and I live in Arkansas, so I was surprised to get it so quickly. They always leave a little handwritten note on the shipping info, which is a nice little touch. Ive tried other vegetarian meals, but this company is simply the best! I love that they also have items you can order in bulk if you want to also make meals of your own. Great value for the delicious, calorie-dense, food you get!

Love this company! Ordered several of their products for some section hikes on the AT a few years ago. Generous portions and the foods good enough that I ate the pesto and hummus that I had leftover when I returned. Just received my second order for an upcoming section hike Ill start in a few weeks and am trying hard not to eat it before I leave. Thinking about keeping bulk bags of the hummus, pesto and sunflower salad in stock in my pantry for everyday use. Yay for good food that keeps hikers happy!

Bought a few of the hot entrees to test them out and we loved it so much that we made two huge orders to cover both back country and front country camping meals over our 3 month camping/backpacking/kayaking adventure. Shipping and service is reasonably fast and they seem quite courteous.

A coworker recommended I check this place out for my upcoming backpacking trip. I was surprised at the wide selection of vegan options they had at very affordable prices. I actually SAVED money by going here vs. buying your typical options on Amazon. They shipped it to my home faster than expected. I loved every meal that I tried and I highly recommend them!

I called them last week to help with my first backpacking trip and they were extremely helpful with recommendations and expedited shipping to ensure product arrived before my trip. This was my first experience of dehydrated food and I was expecting the worst but the 3 day vegan pack was tasty and good calorie content (necessary for days of hiking). Will definitely use again.

So far, out of the 10ish dishes Ive tried from them, Ive liked and in fact enjoyed each one a lot. Especially after a long day on the trail... Their meals re-hydrated fast, thoroughly, and had great flavor. The fact that they serve vegetarian meals was my first draw to them, but once I tried a couple dishes I knew the quality was there and that this company put together solid flavor combinations!I havent tried any of the cold soaking dishes yet but everything hot has been SUPER convenient. I boil my water with my stove in a pot, pour in the contents, mix, and leave it covered until its ready(every now and again if its cold out add a little extra heat,).Mostly ingredients from the US, (I am pretty sure) all of their ingredients are organic, and to top it all of amazing customer service. When I placed my first order I was a bit behind schedule and they helped me out by making sure my order got to me on time for my trip. That was what sealed the deal for me, if Im not making my backpacking food myself, im getting it from Outdoor Herbivore. Thanks you guys n gals, keep on keepin on!

Ive been ordering from this company for 4 years and have always been so impressed - VERY quick response and shipping, delicious meals, and a variety that will make anyone happy. Further, my omnivorous friends are always trying to eat my meals on the trail because, despite being meatless, theyre so good!

We ordered several meals and snacks from Outdoor Herbivore for a camping trip to the California coast. The meals were fantastic and very filling . We especially loved the bulk sized Cocoa Nutty Chomps, the packaging stood up to the wet and rough conditions for the whole week. We will be ordering from Outdoor Herbivore again on our next trip. Not a hiker or backpacker but I am a college student. I love their food its convenient for me to make in my dorm room and or on the go. Just tried the hummus for the first time it was surprisingly good. I especially love cinna monkey chomps they somehow survive my backpack through the whole day.

BEST. CAMP FOOD. EVER. Seriously if youre a vegetarian or vegan, this is the only worthwhile dried food out there for backpacking and camping. Its all very flavorful, full of good proteins, spiked with vitamins here and there, and pretty darned close to being all organic!PLUS, the shipping was insanely fast! I received my order at my doorstep 48hrs after placing it. My boyfriends order came here just as quickly.

The sodium levels are completely reasonable, as well (especially compared to the typical pre-packaged fare).Gluten-free options abound, and vegans can eat well - and the recipes are very tasty! Its great to have options for real food while out for many days at a time in physically demanding conditions.Fast response time and courteous service. Long live Outdoor Herbivore!

If I could give zero stars, I would. A complete bad experience. Had a large order and paid for expedited shipping. They shipped it to another state. Had to ask multiple times for them to ship a new order ASAP, as time was a consideration. This food was supposed to sustain me and my partner - breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack - each day for an 18 day hike. The food was TERRIBLE. We tried a few meals before we left, but once we were dependent on this food to be our nutrition and sustenance, it was a total failure. We got so sick. No energy. It was as if it was taking nutrition from us, rather than providing nutrition. I wrote to the company and asked for a refund. They said they do not provide refunds on purchased food. So dissatisfying. Poor customer service. Would never waste my money or energy on this product again. Please dont bother with them. Dehydrate your own food. Buy a more trusted brand. Nearly anything would be better than Outdoor Herbivore.EDIT: response to the response from the company. I tried very hard to work with you reasonably. I contacted you promptly when I had email/phone service after a long hike on the Pacific Crest Trail, thus the 6 weeks after placing/receiving the order. We were not able to carry the weight of your food and the new food we had to buy on the trail, so I was ubable to provide you with samples, as I explained to you. I filled out the requested food illness paperwork to the best of my ability. Im sorry if that was not helpful to your investigation. I did ask for a full refund, as we purchased almost $800 worth of food for the hike and were unable to use/consume 90% of it because it made us feel terrible and caused me vomiting. It is unfortunate that you were unwilling to provide any form of compensation for our incredibly bad experience with your product. I just hope that others either have a better experience or simply avoid purchasing food from your company.

Definitely the best tasting vegan backpacking food available. All of their meals are great, but I highly recommend the Lemongrass Thai Curry and the Lemony Herb Quinoa. I placed a last minute order food for a backpacking trip and they made sure it arrived in time. I eat better on the trail with Outdoor Herbivore than I do at home!
