The Service was thorough and professional. My vehicle needed extensive diagnostic and repair. I think they might be a little under staffed.

I have been using Standard Auto Care any time I needed work done or maintenance on my 2002 Ford Ranger XLT truck. They have always been very pleasant, honest and no pressure to get work done that is not an emergency. I have been doing business with them for years and would recommend them to anyone needing maintenance or auto repairs.

I took my vehicle in to get a no start diagnosis. It took them about 3 days to diagnose. I was told it took longer because my vehicle is diesel and they dont really work on them. Okay fine. They then told me that they can repair it and gave me a quote. I needed my car so I agreed to their service charge and repair. I called about a week later for an update and I was told its being worked on. Called another week for an update and I was told the mechanic was sick and cannot finish. I then asked for an estimated date for when it was going to be repaired and was told there is no estimate day when itll be fixed. Fine right? Waiting almost another week and stopped by to see them face to face. I just requested my car when I got there and the person in front said, Good thing you came in, I was going to call you, WE CANT FIX IT. The mechanic who has the special tools is no longer with us and took them with him. Took almost 3 weeks for them to tell me it couldnt be fixed.I do not recommend this repair shop for diesel or any European vehicles. Called the dealership and said itll take them 1-2 days max. Should have gone there from the start.I understand things happen and all, but it should not have taken that long to tell me that it could not be fixed by them. Should not have taken the job. Worst experience ever!
Standard Auto took on my problem car after 3 other shops told me to give up. They diagnosed the problem, ordered the parts, found wiring problems and sorted them out, and in general made my car run like a top. I recommend them for routine care as well as difficult problems. Tom and his staff are knowledgeable as well as efficient and kept me informed every step of the way.

So I had a transmission problem on my Subaru. Standard Auto Care was recommended to me by a co-worker and they more than delivered on their reputation. Friendly staff, stayed in contact with me, kept it under my budget(and it was a tight one), helped me get the original transmission sent back and replaced as it had a bad part. Also they recommended other tasks to be completed so that it saved me money because they were already working in that area already. Car is running great now and cant thank them enough!

Dropped my car off for an oil change and they had it ready and waiting when I got off work. Sue had everything set so check in only took a few minutes. They even sent me a report on my car. Highly recommended!
They did a repair on my rear axle and now the new tire that was on there is balding on the outside in only a few months of very light driving, less than 3k miles. Steer clear.Update:Thank you for proving my point.By you denying it only shows what type of people you are.I did have an alignment done, the technician stated when you replace an axle you should always do an alignment afterwards. I could see if you dont have the equipment to do it, but at the very minimum make the suggestion it should be done.
My husband took his truck in for engine light being on. They supposedly fixed it for $3700, after he got it back. He get losing oil ( never had this problem before) took it bck, they claimed all was well. This was not so!!! Still losing oil, took it back again, found out it was the heads.( totally their fault) kept his truck a whole month or more!!! Finally got it back, so well see. I wouldnt take my grandsons motorized toy car to these people. Horrible experience!!!

I checked out at a car dealership and I brought it to standard auto care and they did a used car inspection and they recommended I not buy it. Did a very thorough job and sent a link via email that gave pictures of all the spots that were wrong.

WOW not a good experience on 7/20/20 I brought my F250 7.3 diesel in for a check engine light, they found the problem a relay is bad they replaced it, Tom also stated that there is a exhaust leak on turbo, told Tom to fix it. On 7/28/20 I insisted that I get truck back taking too long my company is loosing money. I get my truck back and 2 days later I see a oil trail at job site, I checked the oil I was 2 gallons low. I got 1 gal of oil onsite so I could get my truck back to my shop. It was then I noticed oil all over wheelwells,tailgate, bumper, axles and complete undercarriage (completely soaked). Called Sue on Monday morning she ordered tow truck, 2 1/2 days later I get my truck back. Their mechanic didnt replace o-rings for turbo when he was working on it. Now that I get my truck back still has oil and greasy fingerprints on fenders and running boards, Sue said my truck will be cleaned, what a lie. Asked for a ride, dont have anyone so I ordered uber 25.87, no refund . First time customer never to return. BEWARE

I took my 2014 Lincoln MKX here because I was fed up with the dealers in the area and am very glad I found them. They did an excellent job explaining everything, gave me a new customer discount for my oil change and were very knowledgeable, fast and personable. I just recommended them to my boss and have found a permanent home here in Sacramento to take my car to.
Everyone at Standard Auto Care was incredibly helpful, friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure my car was road ready for a cross country trip. I am not from the Sacramento area, and brought my car here based on results from Google and availability, and in this I lucked out - the care and attention to detail I received here was the best Ive ever had at a mechanic/auto repair shop. Their prices were fair, they made sure to inspect every bit of my car, explained their findings and their reccomendations (both immediate and in the future), but also didnt pressure me into any unnecessary work. If I was a local, I would use Standard Auto Care exclusively. I drove just under 1000 miles without any issues, and made it home safely. Thank you, Tom, Sue, and Hank.
Standard Auto is AMAZING! Dropped my car off with a litany of issues and they quickly and accurately kept me up to date as to what was going on and how much needed services/repairs would be. The staff is friendly and I will be using them for all my car needs. Its very tough to find a trust worthy auto place but I genuinely believe Ive found a good one and would highly recommend them to everyone!

Standard Auto Care is the best shop weve ever used - we wont take our vehicles anywhere else! Recently when my battery died, they offered to come get my truck (tow it in) free of charge, if necessary. (I was able to jump start it so didnt have to...) In 33 years of driving and caring for my automobiles I have experienced their brand of customer care only once. They were beyond competent and fair, and as I had just moved to Sacramento in a rather dramatic and difficult move, they were sensitive to my needs far beyond any auto repair service center I have ever dealt with. I had originally taken the car to Honda and for $600 less Standard Auto completed nearly double the repair work. And no kidding, they give you a rose when you leave the desk and a little hand-wrapped packet of candy for you on your seat. I mean come on!!!It was an awesome experience and I am so grateful for their expertise and kindness.
I have used Standard Auto Care for several years for several of my cars, my childrens cars and my wifes car and have always gotten excellent service and great prices. They always take the time to explain any service or parts needed and give me other options if available. They do a great job from the service on your car to the friendly receptionist when you walk in the door. They guarantee their work. Friendly staff. The oil change was a great price, and they have a punch-card system that is an even better deal. Prices for some services were more than I could afford, but probably not much different from other places in the area.At the end of the day they gave me a rose and some chocolate, which was nice!
Took my car in cause it was overheating. Turned out to be a bad sensor and I had my car back the next day. Tom and Sue were very friendly and great with getting me updates throughout the process. I highly recommend Standard Auto Care!!

I couldnt have asked to be taken better care of. They towed my car to their shop for free, did not conduct any testing or perform any work without getting my authorization first, they even WASHED my car! The owner personally drove to my house to pick me up when my car was ready (for free), they gave me a rose and there was a cute little satchel of chocolates sitting on my seat when I got in my car to drive it home. My car works wonderfully now and they gave me a $25 certificate toward my next service. Their prices are a bit higher than I was hoping to pay, but definitely worth it for the level of customer service and care that my car and I both received!
Tom is truly top notch! I was referred to him by one of his long-time customers when my A/C went out. After numerous testing with the latest technology in equipment, they found the issue. And let me tell you, it was much more than just being out of coolant. They ordered the part and had me back on the road in an ice box. Now its colder than ever before and I felt that the cost was way more than fare for all the work they did. I can totally see why he has so many long-time customers. I feel like Ive gained a friend that I can trust to keep my car at its best. Super professional, friendly, trustworthy and no matter where you live in the Sacramento area, hes well worth the drive. I have been going to Standard Auto Care for years now because I trust their quality of work, integrity, honesty and fair pricing. It’s often very hard to put “honest” and “good” in the same sentence when speaking of auto repair shops but not so with Standard Auto Care. They are very courteous and professional from the staff to the owner Tom. Tom is a great guy and has become more of a friend than just the auto shop that does my repairs. I would recommend them to anybody.

Went in for a car with battery repeatedly died. Less than 2 months later the exact same thing happened and when I inquired about the warranty they consistently dropped hints that the warranty wouldnt be honored and Id be paying At least 4 hours of labor to diagnose the issue of phantom drain because it would take several hours... You know, despite me already paying them nearly 500 dollars originally to do just that install a new battery and supposedly having a warranty on the repair because it just looks like the battery died and nothings wrong.What I did instead was buy a new battery, a multimeter and diagnose and fix the issue they shouldve done themselves to begin with. I found the bad fuse, replaced it and called it a day. My advice? Dont take their word at face value, whatever the problem may be do your own research afterwards and determine before you authorize any repairs. Im out over 800 dollars at this point for a fuse that cost me all but .50 cent after I found the problematic fuse and replaced it and I dont know ANYTHING about cars.Also dont bother trying to argue with them about the warranty of their repairs, its not worth it. You supposedly get one but when trying to actually use it you just end up being told double talk clearly implying they arent honoring it which is why after calling them I didnt bother to bring my vehicle in.
We take all our cars to Standard Auto and feel that they always go the extra step to make sure they are safe and reliable. Always friendly and we always know that we can call and they will do their best to get our car in.
Moved recently to the area, so theyre down the street.Have had my previous Honda Element, current Toyota FJ Cruiser, and current Mazda RX-8 there for service.I will give them the highest praise I can give any car repair shop: they are so fastidious, they dont grease up my steering wheel/shifter/interior/etc the way almost every other shop (including the many BMW dealers I have dealt with) seems to do.I would believe its not a coincidence that this is then representative of their superior level of customer service, and so far I have not had any problems with their work itself.Fyi, they give you candy and/or roses when you depart - they dont love you or anything, theyre just treating you well!

I took my car to them because my check engine light keep going on and off. I was going to taken it back to the place where I got it because I had warranty on my car but they gave me a list and that is where I found there #. From day one when we walked in the receptionist Sue had great customer service friendly and funny. They took my car in and right away before any work was done they called me and let me know what the issue was and how to handle it with my insurance. Tom was so helpful and always explain everything that was being done. We had a few issues with my insurance and Tom was so helpful with it and would call as needed never once complained. They finally got to the ok to do the work and changed the timing chains but when he took it for a drive he notice other little hiccup and ordered the parts and fixed them. He called me and let me know that the insurance should cover but if they didn’t he would eat the cost only because he didn’t want to give my car back with those issues. Thankfully the insurance did cover it except for like $36 on some stuff but Tom only made me pay $6 and ate the $30. I am super happy I picked them from the list because hands down best shop I have dealt with. When I picked up my car they gave me a flower which was soooo sweet because they apologizes to me for taking long but they didn’t and it was a little longer due to my insurance having to send an inspector. Then when I got in my car they had left me a bag of candy hanging on my steering wheel. Thank you guys for the great help and customer support and service you provided. I will be seeing them to do my oil changes and everything else.Oh yeah Tom you where right my car drives great now.

Standard Auto Care has friendly, courteous service. They really strive to find out the issue with the vehicle & to fix any problem they may find. If the issue is not satisfactorily corrected you can go back & they will do a courtesy check to fix it. Its really that they have a loaner car if your vehicle has to stay overnight.
Sue, Tom, and everyone there was super helpful I walked in with no appointment at around 4:30ish and they had my car fixed within the hour. I will be going back to them for sure for now on! 👍🏼

I had a mechanic for almost 25 years in Orangevale but after living in Midtown Sac for 2+ years, decided to find and support a business where I live. I searched the internet and found outstanding reviews for Standard Auto Repair close to Arden / Del Paso on Colfax. I called Standard Auto Care and Tom, the owner, was impressive and I felt assured that I did choose well. The evaluation of repairs that were needed for my vehicle, communication, costs, etc. were communicated as promised. Advice was concise, I was given various options for the most important repairs and others that could be done at a later date based on my budget. The repair work was done on the timeline we agreed to. When the repairs were complete one of the technicians/mechanic reviewed repaired parts with me! Currently, customers are also offered a program to save $ on labor, future tune ups and other items that need annual replacements which is a super value if you maintain your car. Absolutely, good to the core people throughout - sweet deal - very thoughtful - my 110,000 mile car drove like new - quiet - smooth - safe. I really, truly feel blessed and no stress. BEWARE! They charged me for a 52 point inspection/ diagnosis but only connected a scanner to it, only inspectef the tires and lied about that. I have a new alternator in my car and drive it everyday buy they said the alternator had no output at all which was clearly a lie. They said all my tire had thread showing when only 1 did. They also added a few other issues that were clearly fine. I will definately not recommend going there unless you feel like throwing away money.

Everyone should try out this place but especially women who always worry that they will be taken advantage of when they take their car into a shop. Ladies you wont feel this way here. They are awesome!! I had told my husband I was giving up the duty of taking the car to the mechanics because it stressed me out so much. I had a hard time understanding what was going on with the car and if I had to make a decision on what service to do I would have a knot in my stomache. That all changed with Tom the service advisor at Standard . He used visuals to explain things to me and I could finally understand what was going on and that my car needed the service. I hung around the shop and could hear Tom the service manager talk to other clients on the phone and I could tell he was trustworthy and had the wisdom to really take care of the clients first and not to just rack up a bill. I brought my car in to be diagnosed on 06/07/2013. Mechanic found that the Idle Control Motor had burned out which caused the Electronic Control Module (ECM) to burn out. A couple weeks later the Service Engine Soon Light came on, but went off after a few days so I didnt think much of it. The car slowly over the remaining few months started to drive bad. I would press on the accelerator and the tachometer would rev up but the car wouldnt go. I finally took it to the Infiniti dealership on 02/03/2014. They found that the Mass Air Flow sensor needed to be replaced and a further issue of the incorrect ECM had been installed in my vehicle. They explained to me that there are two different ECMs for the vehicle. One with a Traction Control System (TCS) and one without. The ECM that was installed by Standard Auto Care was equipped with TCS, but my vehicle does not have that option. Infiniti replaced the ECM with the correct part.I then went to Standard Auto Care about the fact that they installed the wrong part. The owner and a mechanic then told me that there is only one ECM for the vehicle and you simply re-flash it to work with the car, and that multiple other companies like Dodge and Ford are this way. They told me that Infiniti lied to me to up-sell an unnecessary part. Which I verified by looking on-line at three different sites that for my make and model and years before and later they all have two options; ECMs with TCS and ECMs without TCS. The owner then went on to say that I didnt give his shop the chance to check it out and that it was under their warranty still. To which I explained that the part I requested they get when they supplied my options, was a used part, and used parts and customer provided parts are not covered under their warranty. I then went on to explain that I as a consumer are not required to come back and give them a chance if I feel they did an inadequate job initially and I needed a second opinion. The owner finished the conversation repeating the fact that it was under warranty, I didnt give them a chance to look at it, Infiniti was wrong, and that Standard Auto Care would not refund my money.Their mechanics clearly do not know what they are doing and the owner obviously does not know how to run a business if he is brought facts showing his employees installed wrong parts and refuses to return their customers money.
