Stopped in for a derailer repair on my wife’s bike. The owner walked me through what had to be done explaining details and the cost estimate. I left the bike with them and they had it repaired that afternoon. I picked it up a few days later so my wife could try it out.Great customer service and just all around very friendly. I Will definitely be back for any future needs. Thank you!
Stopped by with two old bikes to see if they could be fixed. They politely told me that it wouldnt be worthwhile but had nothing appropriate in stock. They suggested I go to Portland Gear Hub to donate them and said would might get lucky and find something there. We did! So Maine Bike Works did the right thing and passed up sales in the process. Love these guys! Classy, honest, and very friendly. Only place Ill go for a bike!
If I could give 500 stars I would. Jason and the staff here are wonderful people. Incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. They fixed my bike really quick. You know when you meet somebody and you know they are doing what they were born to do? These are the folks at Maine Bike works. I can’t say enough great things.
I had an emergency repair needed two hours before bike check-in at Ironman Maine 70.3. Joe and his team replaced the front derailleur cable on my Cervelo P3 which is internally routed and very difficult. They did this on a moments notice with plenty of time. The bike shifts perfectly, these guys are pros and super nice!
Fantastic experience there! They tuned up my sons new bike and hes all smiles now! They even took the time to explain what was going.
AWESOME bike store! Treated us as if we were his only customer. Very knowledgeable. Helpful to the point of providing us with needed grease and tool. Recommend to all!!!
Im so glad I chose to work with Maine Bike Works. This is my first true new bike, after years of buying second-hand CL bikes. Theron was incredibly helpful throughout the entire build-out process - he was sure to answer all of my questions and keep my design requests and budgetary needs in mind. I could not be more thrilled with the finished product! It also feels great knowing that I can reach out to the guys at MBW for help, advice and support as I dive into the world of bikepacking. Thank you Theron, Jason and the MBW team!
Great experience with my bike repair. They were very informative and helpful.
What better endorsement is there than having repeat customers? How about having three-peat customers. I’ve had a variety of bikes and shopped a lot of places to feed my cycling habit over the years, but Maine Bike Works is the first one to earn my business on three different builds now. Originally, I found MBW listed online as a ‘local’ dealer for one of the frames I’d been considering. After a quick friendly telephone chat with the guys at the shop, I was convinced that a little 2-hour drive up to their shop would be the best way to answer my initial questions … and generate many more. I was not disappointed! There are a lot of shops you can go to with big inventories of mainstream bike brands. Full service shops will fit you with what they’ve got, but few that’ll really work with you to figure out what you *want*. From spec’ing my first complete touring bike to facilitating an import from a UK partner, Jason and Theron patiently and enthusiastically answered all my bike-nerd questions and gave me a mechanic’s education along the way.
Now youd probably wonder how a bike shop could possibly have so many five star reviews, after all its just a bike shop. My answer to that would be that you just have to go and experience it.I went there expecting just the typical bike shop experience of dropping off my bike, they do their thing and call me when it is ready. Boy was I wrong. Maine bike works strives to do the exact opposite of your schedule allows it. They prefer to go over the bike with you and explain all the options available. Having you there while the repairs are happening also allows you to see in real time what is happening. There may be things that werent caught in the initial inspection that may be difficult to explain in a phone call and very difficult to quantify. This, in my personal experience, really enhanced the whole process. I went in for a tune up for a used bike I purchased and left feeling great.Jason took his time and even went above and beyond to maximize the performance of the bike in the most cost-effective way. After two hours the bike was significantly improved and I couldnt believe how reasonable the price of the repairs were.Jason apologized for taking up two hours of my life that Ill never get back, but what he actually did was make bike repairs enjoyable with great conversation, great insight and information about biking in the area, and made me crave an iced Americano. If you are looking for bike repairs that break the mold, I highly suggest you check this place out. And do yourself a favor and pick up a pink water bottle while you are there, youll be glad you did.
Just got off the phone with Terrence, the nicest guy. He answered all of my questions and a lot more. This is not a pretentious or lazy bike shop. This place embodies the cycling spirit which is a big and happy heart. A+
Jason and Theron have been awesome. Every time I’ve needed a part they’ve been super responsive. Highly recommend.
Have not been to a better bike shop!! Very knowledgeable, kind and passionate staff. I geeked out looking at some Crust bikes they where building up! Was able to try a Rohloff hub Ive been interested in on a shop bike they had. I could not recommend them more, their attention to detail, and the care they put into building up their customers bikes, Ive never seen at that level before.Defiantly reach out to them if you are in the market for anything bike related!
They were very helpful, nice, and knowledgeable definitely recommend!
The crew at Maine Bike Works are the very best bike shop guys I have ever dealt with. They spend a great deal of time understanding each customers needs, desires, capabilities, and limitations. They are not interested in selling a bike off the rack; rather, they design a bike for you that is uniquely yours in every detail. Its impossible to recommend them too highly! If youre serious about biking, then this is your shop. If I lived in California, Maine Bike Works would still be my bike shop.
I inquired about a bike, however it was not in stock(as quality bikes and parts are hard to find during the pandemic). Since the bike was not in stock, I searched elsewhere and was able to find one at a different company. I then contacted Maine Bike Works back to ask about getting setup with a new wheelset and handlebars, however the employee I spoke with was extremely rude and refused to help me because I didnt purchase the bike from them. I was told that he wouldnt talk to me anymore because I would just use their knowledge to purchase elsewhere, even though I was trying to purchase from them.
First all of, I am admittedly mechanically challenged.Last year I purchased a gel bike seat from Maine Bike Works and while on a bike ride this year, something fell off connecting one of my springs to my seat. I didnt what to do so I called MBW for direction. Theron said to bring my bike in and they would take care of it for me. While there and in conversation, I found out that they are out straight these days with service work. But Theron treated me like I was his only customer. Even though it was a relatively quick fix, I was so GRATEFUL for his help and expected to pay for his services. After all, it wasnt their fault that this happened. But he declined charging me. Wow!THANK YOU Maine Bike Works for your kindness! If there were more businesses (and people in general) like yourself, the world would be a much better place!
What a great bike shop! I was on a bike tour through Maine and had an issue with my derailleur that I couldn’t figure out. They fixed me up right away and for a great price. Seems like the place to go for maintenance and repairs if you are in the area. They also carry some very high-quality bikes, but don’t let that intimidate you, the service and repair prices are very reasonable.
I emailed them with a simple question and ended up having an awesome conversation about bikepacking and cycling in general. Its really obvious that Jason and Mike love cycling and want to spread the cycling stoke. These guys really know their stuff and are more than happy to share their vast knowledge with anyone whos willing to listen.
THESE GUYS ROCK!!Mike and Jason went well out of their way to assure my visit to the shop was a success.I had so many questions to ask; they were both very patient in answering all of them.we are biking from Portland ME to Memphis TN, so having someone to bounce logistical questions off is HUGE!This shop is amazing too, so much gear to choose from! i know i will be back time and time again even though it is outside of Portland, it is well worth the ride or drive to Saco.Cheers Mike and Jason!Thank you again,~ Kyle and Elizabeth
Extremely caring and passionate shop. These guys have been helping me with a big project. I can’t say enough good things about them- great, professional service from thoughtful folks. MBW’s adventure focused shop will inspire you to dream big!
Was lucky to stumble upon Maine Bike Works. They helped supply a bike to me through Kona, along with a wealth of incredibly helpful information on gravel cycling and local trails. This is not your average bike shop trying to sell you big brand products. These guys make time for their customers and have a passion for what they do.
Brought in two bikes (on a Saturday no less) that we had not used in several years. Mike fixed them up for us on the spot. They are very nice and the service was outstanding. I will definitely go there for all my bike needs from now on.
This place is awesome! Great environment and these guys know their stuff! You dont have to wait four or five days to get your bike back for repairs ! I recommend everybody in the area to get their bike serviced here. they explained everything and take you through step-by-step.
I met Jason on a tour through New England this past summer. We quickly started talking bikes and in the end he helped me pick a new bike out a few months later. I drove up from Mass to build my new karate monkey with him and am happy as hell with the bike. He taught me so much in those few hours and Im glad to have another friend who loves bikes probably even more than I do! Top rate shop.
Jason and his team are great representatives of the biking community. Knowledgable, kind, and full of quality conversation. They personally attend to every detail and are thankful for their customers. I especially appreciate their customer services.
Jason’s attention to detail was so refreshing. His passion for making his customer happy is remarkable and he is such a great advocate for the biking industry. He made sure our needs were met for what we want out of a biking experience. If you are thinking about purchasing a bike, do not hesitate to pay Maine Bike Works a visit. You will be glad you did!
Maine Bike Works is what a business should be. Jason Braley is committed to making the bicycle experience FUN from the word go. In addition, he believes in educating the consumer. For the first time cyclist and veterans alike, Jason is a mountain of knowledge that will get you fixed up right and rolling with new found confidence. If you dont find what you are looking for, fear not, he will either order it for you or steer you in the right direction. Keep it real, get on my wheel and roll on over to Maine Bike Works!
Best bike shop in the in the world!
I cant say enough good things about Jason and Maine Bike Works! I am thankful for his knowledge, patience, advice, and guidance. I had never been on a road bike before and with a Triathalon quickly approaching I thought it would be good to get my bike serviced. Not only did Jason take his time and do a thorough inspection, he educated me as he went through every part of the bike, how it functioned, and how it may affect my performance. Great customer service, great price, quality work, and it takes little to no time. Thank you Jason!
Jason took excellent care of my wifes commuter bicycle, explaining clearly what was wrong and what caused the problems that brought us in. We were fortunate that he was able to fix it right on the spot, too, which I didnt expect but am grateful for. He gave it a quick general tuneup that made it ride like its brand new, and we were on our way for a very reasonable price. It was my first time in, and the next time something needs fixing on either of our bikes, Im coming right back here. Very impressive service, very impressive quality, and actually a pretty good time just hanging around the shop, too. I almost bought a growler caddy (for those half gallon to-go glass jugs from breweries, so you can strap em onto your bike) from his pretty awesome selection of unique aftermarket upgrades, and probably will the next time Im in!
Quick and friendly service. Knowledgeable owner/ operator. Passionate about his work and his customers. We had a tire blow on a nearby trail. He had us back up and running in no time.
Maine Bike Works is a really welcoming place and the owner Jason has a passion for what he does and a really cool take on what a bike shop can be.I was looking for a very specific Kona bike and Jason patiently spent a lot of time with me discussing exactly what I was looking for, and with no hard sell whatsoever. He ordered the bike for me and went way above and beyond in order to have the bike built up and ready for me in time for a riding trip I had planned.Check this place out for a friendly atmosphere, killer customer service, and a ton of biking passion.
I went in for the first time on a busy Saturday with a problem with my bike. They took my bike right away and had my bike fixed fast and at a good price. Super nice people too.
This place is Awesome! Quality people, excellent service, knowledgeable, friendly and down to earth. Only place that stocks Kona Sutra bikes! Bought one of the last ones in stock. What a great ride. Cant wait to go back!
Great service. The business owner stopped what he was working on and fixed my sons bike. Greatly appreciated!
Great bike shop great service and affordable,, If i could combine all the other great reviews that would be my experience at Maine Bike Works,, Do yourself a favor give them a shot and go check them out if you need any bike work done,, you wont be disappointed, I actually felt really good about the $$ I spent there,, how often can we say that??
Super friendly, super knowledgeable. Can’t imagine going anywhere else for bike needs.
Jason is a great guy, and he and his wifes business is top notch. Service is excellent. Thanks guys!
Excellent service, excellent price. I brought my bike in to have a new tube put in the rear tire. He did a quick tune up which included straightening my wheel spokes, adjuating my brakes, adjusting my shifters and oiled my chain.
Been in there twice with my grandaughters bike and got quick awesome service both times.Thank you!
Absolutely first rate!!! Best service. Reasonable rates.
Had some tricky to diagnose problems on two of my bikes. Jason is knowledgeable and patient and was resourceful in identifying a way forward. He sent detailed emails summarizing his thinking and suggesting alternative approaches. In the end, he solved a vexing fit issue I had with my road bike, and solved a shifting issue that was more complicated than adjusting the cable. Moreover, Jasons positive attitude and willingness to have me hang around and watch him work and learn a thing or two along the way really puts this bike shop in a special category. He is also a dealer for Kona and Salsa, which are cool and innovative brands. One of my bikes is a Salsa Vaya, and its a fun, comfortable ride.I highly recommend this shop for Jasons excellent personal service!
Jason at MBW is awesome to deal with Thx so much for my Surly Rolling Darryls!!!!! Cant say enough about this shop. Stellar, Fun, etc great place for good old conversation. My kind of place
Camping far from home when my 12 year old blew out his bike tire. Headed to Maine bike shop for a new tire - not only did we get a new tire - he washed my sons bike, adjusted the brakes and greased the chain! Fabulous service - all I expected was a new tire! THANK YOU!
Stopped by Maine Bike Works (MBW) on a whim in the late spring/early summer to look at touring bikes and got talking to Jason and another customer for a good hour or two which was a blast. When I heard about the bike build where you get to have some one on one time with MBW while building up YOUR future bike then it was a no brainer ... I just had to buy from this shop!!! I got measured that day and told em Id be in touch -- perhaps he thought I would be back ... perhaps not (Id be in the latter camp personally), but he did it all enthusiastically (which I probably wouldnt have). It wasnt until about a month or two later that I finally had done enough research to get in touch with him again. Coming from out of state (3 hrs or 8 hrs away from Maine depending on my work) I thought logistics would be difficult, but the timely responses, amazing wealth of knowledge, and friendly interaction made the whole process a breeze! When it came down to do the bike build it went awesome and I learned way more than I couldve elsewhere. The most amazing thing about Jason is that throughout the whole process when I asked for an opinion I got the honest to goodness truth from Jason. It wasnt some you should definitely buy xyz high pressure sales tactics to line his pockets, it was a coherent, well thought out and often inexpensive solution which was ALWAYS given with the caveat that he will try to make happen whatever my imagination can come up with. I mean what kind of business owner steers their customers towards less expensive options that just work well AND also remind them that he doesnt want to crush their dream (bike)? Honest business owners that deserve all of the business we can give them!!! The owner is as honest as the day is long and it is a shame there arent more people like him around.TL;DR: MBW = bomber service. MBW = bespoke bikes. MBW = honest business. Youd be an absolute fool not to come here.
Ive been a customer of MBW, primarily the mechanic services, since they opened, and couldnt be happier. Jason always takes the time to do a thorough and thoughtful job, and most importantly, always approaches things with my budget in mind.Theres a DIY area that cant be overlooked. You can bring your bike in and have it fixed (usually right that second) by a pro, or, if youre so inclined, you can put your bike on the repair stand and, using MBWs tools, fix it yourself. Need to learn HOW to fix it? Jason will patiently and professionally coach you through the repair or adjustment. His tools, his knowledge, his space, yet the satisfaction of DIY? Thats a total win-win service that I had never seen before.Ive seen customers in the shop with bikes that require second mortgages, yet when Ive brought in a 40 year old Schwinn (heavy), a 20 year old Huffy (cheap), and a few slightly newer, yet still old and plain vanilla, bikes in for basic repairs and service, Jason has always treated me like a VIP.Theres no judgement or pretence at MBW - their mission is clearly to facilitate your enjoyment with your bike, and maybe making a few friends around the shop while youre there.
Awesome place and fantastic service, owner of this shop very caring .
