Blick Royal Oak has a terrific selection of art supplies at good prices. But best of all is their amazing service. The people working there are artists themselves and know the products well. A mainstay of art stores in Metro-Detroit. The staff are super helpful. You may be able to find a megastar that has some of the same gear, but these are art people running an Art supply store.

Blick art in store is WAY different then online. They only carry painting sculpting and drawing supplies. I went in for several things across a few different crafts and they dont have anything for them. Now if you paint or draw its a great place to go with a great variety of things to choose from. The staff is very friendly!

Dont know how I waited this long to visit a Blick store. Had always heard great things, but my first experience was absolutely great. The staff was extremely knowledgeable for any questions I had, went above and beyond in helping me, and were nothing but friendly and welcoming.I guess I assumed the prices would be worse at a higher quality art supply store, but not only are the prices more than reasonable, they have a program that checks your order at checkout against their online prices, and if their online price + shipping would be cheaper, they discount your order.Cant recommend this place much more, whether youre a basic hobby crafter all the way to a professional artist.

Great store. They have a lot of art things you cant buy anywhere else. They carry golden and liquitex acrylics. They also carry reasonably high quality canvases. One of the only places you can buy montana spray paint in person.

Blick Art Materials has always been my go-to place when Im looking for high-end art supplies.Their staff is helpful and friendly.They have an awesome selection of supplies that can easily get a creative person very excited!The only downfall that I (personally) have found to be disappointing is the fact that they no longer carry the large 50 lb boxes of pottery clay. It can only be ordered online now. It would be a bit more acceptable if it werent for the fact that they charge an extra $20 for each 50 lb clay order.I visited their store to purchase my clay and personally put it in my vehicle, (so I would not be charged the handling fee) just to find that they no longer carry the larger sizes, so I had to buy online and I was charged an extra $40 for a handling charge (this charge is not a shipping charge).

Its really the only place I go to get supplies. Not only do they have everything Ive ever needed, but their staff is knowledgeable and helpful as well. I like to go in there and just look around to see what Id like to experiment with, and they are really good at making sure I know theres help available while still allowing me to shop independently.

The student discount and all of their constant coupons really help with cutting down on costs. Much better experience than when I go to Michaels or Joann Fabrics

Came here with my three kids to find some artsy materials, left very happy they have a good selection of everything you could want. The canvas sizes are perfect they go from very small to very large. The oil paints are a whole section and they carry many different brands of brushes and oils. My kids love going here. The employees are also very knowledgeable on what to suggest when you have A question.

I have lived in the area for over five years now and somehow I have missed noticing this gem of a shop driving on Woodward almost every day! First time visiting today as I was in need of some specialized items. I AM SO GLAD I DID. Incredibly pleasant and knowledgable staff, from start to the very finish of my visit. Easy to navigate store, with items organized neatly and efficiently given the small-ish space (especially if compared to the bigger box/chain stores). The prices were comparable (if not better most of the time!) to anything I usually see online, which I know cant be easy to do. And as I was checking out (I am not sure if I was speaking with the owner or not), but she was so genuinely interested in MY craft and if I taught art/had an Instagram account etc. I never post reviews (I feel like everyone says that...but for me - it really is true!) but I felt it was necessary to give this fantastic gem of a store at least a little something in return, after gifting me with one of the nicest afternoons in quite a long time.

What a fun little shop! And it is LITTLE! They didnt actually have what I was looking for, which was higher end watercolor brushes, but they still had a ton of fun stuff to look at. They had great quality papers and canvas, lots of paints of various brands, and lots of other stuff. Also, some very helpful staff

Theres not many places that sell any products for alcohol inks right now. This store has some materials for that. And the staff is so helpful, and can guide you through the store and help you with all your needs.

This is a lovely little store, and I first started poking my head in about a year ago. The staff there is outgoing and welcoming. They are more than happy to let you browse but also are completely friendly and more than happy to help - just ask. By far, the staff sets it apart, and that says something when you realize just how much value is in this store!For comparison, this is not Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or Joanns. This is a tiny little store - but for the size, it comes PACKED with goodness. If you are a serious artist or are serious about supplies, this is the store you need to come to. If you go into those other stores, the associates that are serious about art may tell you the same (which is how I was originally referred to Blick!)First of all, the value in this store is simply awesome. If you arent familiar with art stores - you are paying for an art supply, not a bulk #2 pencil. Items are going to cost a little bit - and thatll be true if you go to the aforementioned stores as well. Youll pay a similar price whether you go here or anywhere else.What you can expect from the supplies here is different. The low end items in this store are on par with the mid to high end items at other craft stores. This is because Blick specializes in art supplies. For example - Prismacolor is typically a high end colored pencil brand at other stores - here, it is the entry level of what they offer. They also offer the In-Store Brand Blick pencils, which are a softer alternative - but have their own unique properties (and arguably more consistent lightfastness). Blick features almost all of this information directly on their website.Try to find something about lightfastness with the store brands of other craft stores - thats not even something that their corporate can look up for you.Blick doesnt provide this quality for just pencils - they do it for pastels, markers, paints (oil, acrylic, watercolor) - you are going to get quality when you come to this store. You can do additional research and decide what type of quality you want - Prismacolors arent rated 100 year lightfast, but Blick carries supplies that are.No matter who you are, no matter what your experience level is with art, if you are SERIOUS about getting into your art - if you are serious about getting supplies that suit your needs, this is the place to come. Not all supplies are the same. Some pencil brands are softer, some are harder - you can get a feel for that by coming here and you can pick out the supplies that best fit you. You will walk out of this store feeling more confident, and you wont be going home to try out your supplies - because youll already have done that at the store.So yes, they have a website, and you can order off of that. The store will match any of the website deals and can have lower prices - at the store, you get the lower of those two prices. For me, the website is a great reference for properties, and for planning colors and lightfastness. But if the supplies dont feel right at the store, I can always get something that matches me better.Keep in mind, you dont have to pay an arm and a leg to get art supplies. Blick does have specials, but their prices are always reasonable and dont require coupons. They do offer some regular price savings and you can get these by ordering their catalog.You can walk out with a set of colored pencils for under $10 - and the difference between these and your back typical to school set is immediately noticeable. If you want to support your young kids interest in art, this is a good way to show it!The best part though, is getting to support a local business - and getting to support this business. I appreciate being able to support the staff of this store and having a store like this in our community, and I hope that it will be here for a long time to come.This is a little store that grows on you.Go here, you will get quality.Go here, you will get friendly service.Go here, you will find what you need to fall in love with art (again).

I love ❤️ this place when I need any art supplies I go here. Need paper supplies they have an isle for that. Clay supplies from tools to clay even polymer clay. Markers a plenty for the serious car designer to the manga artist. They have the tools for drafters. Even down to the unusual projects like plaster of Paris. Airbrush artists get your supplies and airbrush pump too. Theres not much they dont have for art supplies.

Blicks has all the art supplies you could ever wish for on any projects that you tackle. The employees are VERY helpful. They go out of their way to save you money and assist you with materials you might need. Only complaint would be parking but other than that, clean and organized store.

I found more variety of paint shades online than in this store. This was a waste of a trip.

Once you become a preferred customer, youll get the best prices for every item - whether it is the online price it or the in store one.So if I want something now, I dont have to wait for shipping but still get the best price for it. Ive found many art supplies are much cheaper than what you get in Amazon as well. I love to just browser through their store, even when I dont really need something specific! Blick is awesome!

Blick is a fantastic art store. The employees are knowledgeable and helpful which is extremely helpful for novice artists like myself. Even if you can find a product cheaper online, I would strongly recommend patronizing stores like Blick. Being able to touch the paper, try the pens, and handle the products is worth the cost difference.

This place is the complete opposite of Michaels in that they have quality products at fair prices and you can always find a team member who actually knows a thing or two about art. Im a painter and I go to Blicks for pretty much all of my supplies and every time the staff has been helpful and Ive been able to grab what I need and get out within 5 minutes. No complaints here 👍

Im fairly new at watercolor painting, and I wanted a face-to-face source (not online). Id heard good things about Blicks, so I went.Whatever good things youve heard about this place dont even come close to the amazing experience I had today. It started with just getting into the store. I use a mobility scooter, and without boring you, dear reader, with the gruesome details, just know that it was quite a process.Once inside, I needed a lot of help. As a noob to my chosen medium, I had questions. Added to that, much of the merchandise was out of my reach. As a result, Liesel stayed with me the whole time, selecting and discarding brushes, paint, paper, and assorted accessories for more than an hour. This lovely lady deserves a raise at the very least.Also deserving of a shout-out is Starr, who assisted in Operation GetInTheDoor, and was generally very helpful.In short (too late!) this is the ONLY art supply house you should consider. The selection, the knowledge, the spectacular service cannot be equalled.
