I will try to give a very objective review. I call twice in different days to verify if my reel can get a cleaning, oiling and grease service. In both times I mentioned that my reel was a Shimano Tyrnos 16II - Dual Speed and the answer in both times was: Yes! My reel was in esthetic and mechanical good working condition. Handle, the dual speed system, lever drag, engage, torque, tension knob, etc. The main reason for the service was, the speed loss of the free spool. How I know that my reel was working properly? The answer: I have another Shimano Tyrnos 30II - Dual Speed Brand New in Box. So, was very easy for me to make a detailed comparison. When I arrived to the store (After 1 hr driving), the owner take my reel in his hands to evaluate and one of his sentences was: If I can get into the reel, I can do the service! I open my eyes when I hear that. I notice that he was adjusting the tension knob without put the lever drag in the free spool position, something that manufacturers recommend to NOT do it.He said after his evaluation that if he can get into the reel (again) and find that something is wrong, he dont have the parts for fix it. Is a Shimano!! Was another sentence, underestimating the Shimano brand; when Shimano is one of the top brands in the planet earth for professional game fishing. I take my reel with me to go out of the store, his final sentence watching the reel was: You have a problem there! The following days I downloaded a graphical PDF from Shimano with the instructions for How give the maintenance to this specific model. I bought the oil and grease, I put the recommended tools on a table, the laptop next to me with the instructions, my wife like assistant and plenty control of my mind and emotions to start the journey inside the reel. Today, I can say after my maintenance, that the free spool is working much better and I save money. The next time that your reel needs service, just ask to the owner if he had the experience working with specifics brands and models. I dont have any doubt about his experience with some brands and reels, unfortunately dont work for me. I have respect for old men and the white hair. Thanks!

Local small businesses are almost extinct these days. There are lots of reasons why; the economy of scale favors big box stores, internet businesses don’t have to pay rent, small shops can’t afford huge inventories, etc.I’ll be honest, I don’t buy all my fishing gear from here. There’s no sense in buying a reel at retail price when I can get it off the internet for 20% less then add a promotional coupon. Also I don’t want to wait a week or two for them to special order something that I can get in Raleigh that day or off of Amazon with free 2 day shipping.Buuuut...I love this store. I take the money I save elsewhere (and then some) and spend it here. The guys who work there are nice and very knowledgeable. They’re not going to pester you into buying stuff and it seems like they always give honest opinions. Also, I’ve had a few rods repaired and it’s always as good as new for just a small fee.Yeah, they don’t have the selection of BPS or Cabelas, but they have all the essentials. They do carry a lot of items you can’t find at Walmart or Dunham’s. What’s really surprising is almost all of the lures and terminal tackle are a little cheaper than the big stores. So, yeah. Awesome store. Support the little guy and spend your money there.
