The Oar House is our go-to stop for seafood or steak on this side of the lake. Its a funky place with indoor/outdoor seating and close to entertainment at the Rockwall harbor. The food, especially the specials, are always fantastic. We prefer the steak here over any steak-house in the area (and weve tried them all plenty of times). This will continue to be a staple for date nights. fancy lunches, or just hanging out with friends.
Great food and excellent service. Try the peppercorn filet.
So, the food was good. The service and splitting a bill between 3 parties was impossible! Was extremely rude about us even asking, even though they never asked of our party of 7 was splitting. Made us feel that was our fault. In addition, made us wait an extra 15 minutes to figure it out and still charged us gratuity at $100.SeriouslyThe worst!
Great Food & ServiceA Little Pricey But Well Worth It
Had a party of 7 and crossed our signals on timing, myself and another arriving vary early, unbeknownst. Hostess set the two of us outside on the patio. Had a couple of drinks and determined the two of us were way early, and then mosquitoes and rain. It all worked out due to attentive service team and when our group assembled, we had room inside and a terrific meal. Thanks to the Oar crew, and I will see you soon.
Update: Tonight has been the 6th time in 3 months and I have a different meal each time and each time has been nothing short of excellent! The food is consistently flavored with rich and deep flavors. I have yet to be disappointed in the food or the service nor do I think I will. I look forward to when I visit Rockwall again!
Loved the place, the atmosphere was very nice .The food was delicious. Giving it a 3 star because of the service. We had a reservation for 4 people, the time we arrived our table wasnt ready. They seated us at the table 2×2,which was supposed to be for 2 people only. Then we waited for very long time for our food to arrive, the people who came after us,was already checking out and we was still waiting for our dinner. At this point it was very frastrating. At the end the waived the price for our dessert . But the whole evening was already spoiled. Even the food was delicious, we dont think so this place would be out first choice for the next time. Because the service does play a big role
Very very good service and excellent tasting food with even a specialty plate prepared for 1 guest. The atmosphere is very nice and not obnoxiously loud with kids screaming so very enjoyable for adults.
Cute place, good for date or intimate dinning, nice without being stuffy. Food was exceptional. Reasonably priced I felt. Everyone at our table raved about their meal. Highly recommend.
1st time diners at The Oar House. My husband and I were seated fairly quickly but it took sone time before our order was taken. Who knows, maybe they were low on staff. It was very slow - maybe there were 2 or 3 tables with other customers. We asked for hot tea as allergy season is irritating our throats. And a iced unsweetened peach tea which was good and fresh tasting. We both ordered a fish plate that was pretty good. I had a fish rolled in Italian bread crumbs with crab meat on top. He had a baked fish topped with shrimp. We both liked our meals. And the appetizer spinach dip was good as well.We will try again for other dishes.
Great old Rockwall experience. Classic recipes very well executed. Lovely wait staff.
If you’re a fan of paying premium price for mediocre food then this is place for you! Calamari is obviously frozen as it took 5 minutes to chew it. The bread was as if you were to take a slice of Sara Lee, spray garlic spray on it and lightly toast. First and last visit.Service was ok she was new but very nice.Fix your Kitchen or fix your prices.
One of the best places in Rockwall. The wife and I are frequent guests. Everything is always spot on. The wife rates the bathrooms at 3 out of 5. She likes the thick papertowels.
Always great. The service is efficient and knowledgeable. We have been enjoying this.place for over 20 years. Food is fantastic.
Good food. Nice atmosphere.
Great food .chef was great he was friends with the guy i was with another ex chef .
Have been meaning to try The Oar House for years but never did because we had been told it was very expensive. I had also been told and read reviews that the services was not very good. After reading the positive reviews for myself we decided to try it because we love great Italian food. I am so happy to say that the service was wonderful and the food was out of this world. The food was not overly expensive and we had a wonderful time. I had the FILETTO AL COGNAC with mashed sweet potatoes and sautéed vegetables. The Filet was cooked perfectly and was so tender. The chef added a little bit of sherry and brown sugar to the mashed sweet potatoes and I am stealing this idea because it made them so delicious. We will definitely be coming back.
This was our first time at The Oar House but definitely wont be our last. Service was on point, nice wine selection and the food was delicious. Nice quiet place for a date night or just a good meal out.
Love it, can eat it everyday!
Lunch was outstanding and server was very pleasant. It was our first time and will definitely go back!!
Wonderful dogs and service. Ask for Patrick!!
It was great! Happened upon it online looking for a place for my husband and I to eat for our first wedding anniversary. The lobster bisque was wonderful, along with the pastas we got. Nice atmosphere and nice staff :)
The Oar House in Rockwall, Tx has been our go to spot for years!!! Food is consistantly top notch. Chef Robert is a true saucier extraordinar and his specials never disappoint! And if your luck enough to get Mary as your server you have had the perfect evening!! Anne & Pat Martinkus
Lasagna and side salad were both excellent. Best shrimp cocktail Ive had in a long time.
The food was great and the service even better. We will be going back without a doubt.
Love this place! I highly recommend the crab claws in lemonsauce.
The mussels in a tomato basil sauce was a great appetizer and the halibut and lamb shank dishes were like buttuh. Melt in your mouth D.licious!!
Very romantic atmosphere. Perfect place for a date. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend Lamb Shank to anyone.....
Salmon with raspberry reduction was very delicious and cooked perfectly. Asparagus had a nice char and flavor.............now for the con. French onion soup came out with no topping! No toast and no cheese.........kinda ruined it but the soup was well executed flavor wise. Guess Im spoiled to the old Barnstormer days. Love that baguette and broiled swiss!!!!
Great food and service. I had the Salmon, hubby had the Peppercorn Filet. Both perfect.
Great food, atmosphere, and staff, $$
Fantastic lunch with great service. Food was outstanding and they were able to accommodate my wife’s food allergies. We’ll definitely be back.
Absolutely fantastic service, from everyone including the manager. The food is amazing and always has been. The Oar House is a must if you are in the Rockwall area.
Another 5 star rating for a fantastic dining experience!
This will be a forever favorite. A little on the expensive side but with every penny. Love it
Absolutely the perfect place to go if you want really, really good Italian food.
Amazing Chicken Parmigiano
Service was amazing. Food was beyond delicious. Cant wait to go back. Our server Steven was wonderful!
The food was awesome. Tried escargot for the first time. I loved theirs
One of our favorite restaurants ever!
This was beautiful Food was wonderful. Service supreme. SPRING WAS OUR SERVER. WINDERFUL
Had told them when we reserved the table we were there to celebrate our anniversary. No mention of that at all from the staff. Our salads were limp lettuce soaked in dressing that was not the type we ordered. We then ordered the scallops and pasta which came out rubbery, fishy tasting, and a little on the cold side. Sent it back and ordered a steak medium well. The steak came out rare. The manager did attempt to fix this by comping our dessert but by that time we just wanted to leave. Anniversary dinner out ruined not only by bad food, but an inattentive waitress that seemed to be rushing us, a water guy that refused to speak to us but lurked nearby, and a bathroom with only 1 stall working that smelled foul. Not my definition of upscale and well below what our expectations were.
Absolutely amazing food and the service is perfect for the atmosphere it provides. The servers are attentive but allow you your space and privacy for a professional or celebratory environment.
A pleasant surprise! Kind of old school but great. We had crab claws, escargot, snapper and dessert. It was all great tasting and the portions were more than enough for us. The server was friendly and the food came out plenty quick.
Loved the food and the place looked awesome
I love The Oar House! Always good food and service. It is our special occasion go to place for over 10 or more years now.
We met with friends at this restaurant for a meeting. my friend recommended this spot. Well, it was a winning. The crew welcomed us with a smile and we felt fantastic. The food was just great. We had a great time and we will visit this place again. Highly recommended.
Fabulous as always. Superior food. I had the fillet with cognac sauce. Excellent! My husband and date had the fillet w brandy peppercorn sauce. He said it was the best ever.Had excellent service by everyone, I must say. We were treated to a dessert of hot pecan pie with a jumbo scoop of ice cream, because we were celebrating my sweethearts 74th birthday. You cant go wrong here. They have mastered the art of food and service.
New Years eve dinner with reservations for four course meal at $ 75 plus tax & gratuity, a $240 meal - the first two courses were good but the main course, a 14 oz strip steak was a very poor selection of meat. It was over cooked (ordered medium rare ), extremely tough, with a mushroom sauce to camouflage the quality and flavor of the steak. Service was below average for a two star restaurant. This was the worst experience at this restaurant in my 30 years of patronage. Has there been an owner or management change?
The Oar House is OUTSTANDING! My family and I try to go there as much as possible. Though expensive, the meals are phenomenal. The wine and beer selection is very good. I highly recommend the experience.
Very nice place and the food was excellent.
Very nice evening with great food. Busy night, so service was slow at times. The yard sale decor has many interesting items. Live music was very nice. Quiet enough to talk, but favorite songs in jazzy renditions.
Great food and great service
The food was great. The service was good. The only ding was that the wine we wanted was out of stock. We were offered a more expensive bottle of the same variety of wine at the price of the one we wanted so the issue was mitigated amicably. The menu was small but the food was great. Better to focus on a few items and do them well than have a ton of menu and have bad food. The decor was nice. There are boats on the ceiling. Restrooms are secluded and not in your face near a table. Theres a bar of you want to eat at the bar though we picked a table.Overall it was a good experience.
The service was excellent, and our food was close to godliness. Will definitely be coming back.
My parents brought me here while visiting Dallas area. Food and waiter was excellent. Definitely on my go to list, when I return.
Food was great. Our waiter was having a off night. Will have to go back and try it again. The food and atmosphere where good enough to get it to 4 out of 5 stars.
Its been a while since Ive been here. I dont remember my entree but I DO remember the lobster bisque. I would come back just to eat that again and would probably get it as my main course. It did not take long to get seated and the staff was very friendly. Did I mention the lobster bisque? Yeah, youre going to want a cup of it at minimum.
On 2.29.20 went here with a friend and we were not impressed, the waiter never checked on us or refilled our drinks, he just walk pass our table. the food came and the fish wasnt cooked, it tasted like sushi. we requested extra steam spinach, it came but not steamed. we told the waiter our experience and he just ignored it. yet we left a good cash tip.parking was another problem, you dont want to park at the far left side because you will be stuck. its extremely difficult to back outthe only good thing here was the nice and friendly front door lady who welcomed us with a smile and got us a table.
Kris. Kringle as in Santa Claus was our server. She was excellent! She recommended the lobster bisque which is so rich! The bread was great. We ordered a filet of founder topped with crabmeat, vegetables and like lime sauce! It was delicious!
Gordon Ramsey would love to make a show about this place. My filet had more pepper than steak and the place smelled like an old garage. While I like retro this place is a health risk...for real...enter at your own risk. Nevertheless...it is an experience to be had for those that want to go back in time...seriously... it is like stepping back 40 years...and that alone gave it the extra star.
Very nice atmosphere!
This is our new favorite restaurant. They have a fantastic wine list, delightfully seasoned seafood and perfectly cooked Prime steak. The service is sincere and thoughtful. Don’t overlook this little gem.
Food was great. Desert was amazing. Bourbon carmal pecan pie perfect. Beat fishIn a long time .
I really love their food. I always get good customer service there. The place is neat and the staff members are always nice. Keep up the good work.
We took a chance and stopped in. We will go back. I even stopped on the way out to thank the chef which is something i havent done in years. There were people at a few other tables. The waiter was prompt but seemed very confused or condescending when I asked if the lamb shank was freshly cooked and if i could get something besides potatoes. Most of the menu items were variations on well known recipes, different enough i didnt want to trust an unknown restaurant and chef so i ordered the lamb.It came out in normal time and was really very good. Properly prepared, tender and juicy. More of french provincial or northern italy style than expected but very tasty. My wifes seafood pasta was very good too.I am looking forward to going back and trying out some of those variations-on-a-theme menu items. It is great to find a place where the chef is willing to put their skills to work.
The place serves large portions and for affordable prices. welcoming staff members. Highly recommended.
The service is outstanding! And the food its even better, that prices are really good considering the quality....I ordered the Triglia al burro (Red snapper broiled with lobster) but instead of broiled I ask the chef to grilled and they did, was amazing!
Food was outstanding! Service was Excellent. What else do you want to know?
The service at this restaurant has been awful. We have been there on separate occasions and the food is good but we have waited for service for 45 min. The waitress dumped drinks on us, and the manager dismissed us and didn’t pay any attention. Worst experience in a restaurant I have ever had.
Great ambiance, service, and food. Party of 4 ordered salmon, scallops, halibut, and I think pork chop. Everything was perfect!
Delicious food. Salad Lamb, fish and chicken enjoyed by all. Didnt leave room for desert but they all sounded terrific. Service was fantastic also.
I just had the filet mignon and it was excellent... the pork chop, salmon its hard to go wrong at the Oar House
Service was great and food was good.
Love the oar house. Everything I have tried has been good. I dont think there is an enforced dress code but I would feel odd in shorts. Seems to be business casual
Probably the worst service and food we have ever had. There were 5 of us, our waitress Spring was not happy. (the only reason we know her name is it was on the bill, she did not introduce herself)There were no pleasantries, she was very matter of fact. When asked a question she gave a curt answer. We have never been treated so rudely. The food was so salty everyone at our table complained. We would have told our waitress but she couldnt be bothered to come back to our table until delivering the check. We had better service from the busboy! When I asked if my dish was an Alfredo sauce (it was) supposed to be sherry cream sauce, she was indignant! We had an amazing dinner and outstanding service at Culpeppers last week. Needless to say, we wont be back to The Oar House!
*If you require handicapped parking, as I do, Id make arrangements to have someone drop you off. Accessibility is limited.Pros:1. The food was average. My group had steak, pasta, and seafood. Everyone was satisfied, but it didnt stand out.2. The wait staff were nice, but it took a while to get refills and such.Cons:1. Making a reservation was a mess. My group called to confirm and they had the number of guests incorrect.2. It was VERY expensive, especially for the quality of food.Overall:The Oar House is a nice restaurant with decent food; however, it was very, very over priced.
Not going back when they have a buffet. I had shrimp pasta with no shrimp. Wait staff was inattentive and preoccupied with personal friends. Rude customers abounded. Wait staff told me I should have moved our table out of the way of a newer tables people! ? Really. Food is not fresh and tastes like it. Salad bar and dessert bar were unimaginative. Best part was visiting with the people who came in with me.
Live jazz and relaxing music on Fridays and Saturdays. Wonderful relaxing vibe. A bit on the pricey side.
So romantic atmosphere. I cant never go wrong with this place and I really enjoy the company of the Chef Renato and his exquisite dishes.I highly recommend the Oar House.
My husband took me here for our anniversary dinner. They sat us in a secluded part of the restaurant with low lighting and candles burning. It was a very romantic atmosphere. Our server was very nice and made sure that we were happy at every turn. The food was good as well. They eventually seated others near us but it didnt change the atmosphere. Overall, it was a nice experience. We will go here again.
Excellent. First time here.
Called at 2 to see if we would be able to get a table at 5. The man on the phone told us they would be able to find a table for us. Arrived at 5, and were turned away by the manager. I have a low opinion of businesses that lie to people. The man on the phone could have said no which would have been completely fine, or the manager could have taken ownership of their mistake. There are plenty of other options in the area to try I would recommend ones that dont lie to customers.
WOW!!! What an experience. I have never experienced such rude wait staff in my entire life. They really think they are a 5 star restaurant. Seems that there is local clientele that frequent the establishment and they receive all of the service. Ordered unsweet ice tea and was brought peach flavored tea. I mentioned I didnt care for this tea and would just like a glass of water. The waiter pretty much snubbed his nose at me and guess what? Yeah, thats right I never received the water even after asking multiple times. The main meal took over an hour and was just ok for the price. When leaving the manager asked how our experience was. Probably the last time she askes a customer that question. My recommendation is DONT PAY PARTONAGE TO THIS PLACE YOU WILL REGRET IT AND NOT GET WHAT YOU PAID FOR. There are a lot of other places with much better service and food.
We were with three other couples celebrating a friends anniversary. The drinks were terrific, the food even better! Great service, a very nice menu, Italian themed. It was a leisurely dinner, and everyone on our party felt that it was a special night, and one well remember for a long time....
Very good food. Nice atmosphere. Good drink selection including good wines. Romantic, but not over the top.
