It is so hard to find Japanese specific grocery stores. At Maruichi, I appreciate being able to buy Japanese groceries without having to sift through aisles of Korean, Chinese, Thai, Indian, etc. foodstuffs like I have to at H-Mart or 99 Ranch.The staff at Maruichi are kind and professional. They carry a little bit of everything Japanese, which is way more than I am ever successful finding at H-Mart or 99 Ranch.And we always stop to eat at Temari downstairs. Love this place!!!

Great little Japanese grocery store, often selling pretty rare/hard to find Japanese items. Some things they sell can be found online, but usually its sold in bulk and is still more expensive than in-store.

My husband and I cant say enough good things about this shop. It is family owned and has a lovely selection of items, from groceries to beautiful bowls, to kitchen small appliances like rice cooker. The staff have also helped us to select ingredients and made suggestions for cooking Japanese dishes. If you have questions, dont hesitate to ask staff, either at the store or by calling on the phone.Once COVID-19 hit, my husband and I were sad to think we may not be able to visit one of our favorite shops. I am immune compromised, so we rely on curbside pickups and delivery for our groceries. Amazingly, in record time Maruchi built a website that could allow for pickup and home delivery. Each order has been so lovely and very fast-- usually the same day I order or the next day. Particularly in these trying times, its great for my husband and I to enjoy creating Japanese dishes together. For fun, I added some photos of foods we made with Maruchis ingredients, with beautiful bowl and plate purchased from their gift shop. Thank you, Maruchi!

The best little slice of heaven there is. I order their sushi grade salmon fish every couple of weeks and it is truly outstanding. I have never had poor quality anything from this grocery store. The owner and staff do a great job with their quality of service.

Best place for Japanese groceries and products. Produce is small but extremely fresh and keep well. Surprising cuts of fish, good quality. I normally get more than I expect usually in the form of snacks and canned drinks from the hot case.

Great authentic Japanese grocery store located right off the Pike. Right above Temari. Always wondered where they got their fresh ingredients. Many of the food, sauces and other goods are imported from Japan. Prices are reasonable and this grocery store is really clean. Highly recommend this place if you want fresh fish and other authentic Japanese food items.

I LOVE this place! It’s not super small and had many Japanese items. I’m half Japanese and located in DC but make this drive so I can get my Japanese needs. Very decent variety, prices pretty good. I had a friendly old man help me today too. I purchased beer and a Japanese women spoke to me in Japanese which was so nice to be able to converse in Japanese with someone (felt like I was back in Japan again). この店をお勧めします~

Ive been trying to find a Japanese Grocery store that delivers or even ships through mail and I finally found one! I highly recommend Maruichi. The online purchase was super easy, the delivery was amazing. I called to request for delivery after 3 pm since I was planning to step outside for a couple of hours. They called at 3:03 pm to tell me that they were outside my building. Perfect timing since I got home right at 3 pm. The Maruichi staff were super pleasant and helpful. Everything was packaged really well. The prices are super reasonable and they had everything I was looking for. This may now be a weekly thing for me. Super excited! Thanks again!

Ive only recently started cooking Japanese and so far, amaruichi has come through everytime. Whatever I need, they have, with aisle labels on English for non-Japanese speakers like me. Very clean, very friendly. Make sure you park in back for easier access!

This is the best kept secret in Rockville. Best place for authentic Bento lunches and Japanese snacks. They have great tuna and my favorite yam noodles. The staff is super friendly too. Its a charming place stocked full of the best items from Japan.

Maruichi Japanese Grocery store, right above Temari Cafe in a strip mall on Rockville Pike, is a small Japanese grocery store full of food and non-food goods from Japan. If you are looking for specific items from Japan that you cant find in other grocery stores in the area, this is the store to visit. Even casual shoppers should delight to see extensive collections of Japanese sweets, noodles, frozen foods, and seasonings.Maruichi stocks one of our favorite salad dressings. Its a Sesame Dressing from a Sesame Grower. We have never found this dressing in Tokyo, Japan. Every time we visit Maruichi, we naturally stock it up! There might be more rare finds here.Beware: Its closed on Tuesdays!

Solid boutique Japanese grocery store. It is small, so the selection of items cant be compared against the bigger Asian grocery store but what they do have is high quality. They do also have some things that are harder to get than in other bigger Asian grocery stores. It is well run and the staff are nice.

I love this place just wish they had more Gokuri drinks. Finding Gokuri there is like winning the lottery but still an amazing store. Also, the matcha wafers 😋😋😋. Lastly, the staff makes you feel welcomed.

They have a great assortment of Japanese foods, drinks, dishes, etc. Some of which are hard to find in other Asian markets. It really made me nostalgic for the time I spent living in Japan. The staff is very helpful if you have trouble finding something.

Awesome selection, very friendly staff, and reasonably good prices. I dont think its possible for me to be happier with this place. They even have real Japanese bread and pastries, which is LEGITI do wish they stocked Kirin Milk Tea but thats just a small suggestion.

I have been here a few times and I am glad I found this place. After my trip to Japan last year I was missing of the treats I came across and salmon rolls I found there. At the right time i always find what I want. I cant wait for my friends in Japan to recommend other treats to try.

We had our groceries delivered. Considering the shut down of everything, I ordered on Friday night and got my delivery to my DC home on Sunday by a lovely young masked man. I was so happy to get the delivery, because we ordered rice. Which is heavy. Which is why I did not use the Japanese grocer a mile down the street from me, who does not deliver.Sadly there were several items out of stock when I ordered. I HIGHLY recommend Maruichi and the delivery fee of $10 is a steal. I wish I could of ordered more, but as I mentioned, a lot of items were out of stock.

I cannot speak highly enough of their customer service! Not to mention they have a fabulous selection and online ordering is a breeze.

Wife was delighted to find organic brown sugar from Kikaijima. Wish they would sell local fresh meat .

Finally a decent Japanese market in the area. Came all the way from Clarendon just to get some Japanese goods ans this small store doesnt disappoint. Its got a good stock of Japanese dry and frozen goods but not so much fresh foods. Nevertheless its better than nothing.

I have been going to this grocery store for a decade. The staff here are great! They also take orders on certain things (I reserved an omelette pan from here). This is the place I go to for my ingredients when I am making Japanese food. I also get pickles here and they sell eggs that are good to eat uncooked (for those indulging in sukiyaki or just want egg over steamed rice). They get bread delivery once a week from a Japanese bakery and you have to get there fast to get the breads you want. I also go here to get dessert after having a meal at Temari. All in all, a wonderful experience.

This is a small Japanese grocery store found just above a Japanese restaurant. I went here to get dry ingredients to make homemade ramen, and all the items in the store have English translations on the shelf. I asked the employees for recommendations on ingredients and they were incredibly helpful, even going above and beyond to help me find more affordable ingredients. The owner of the store even came out to help.

The best Japanese grocery store in the DC area-- and Ive been to three. Well organized, has every ingredient you could want, and the stock changes seasonally so you can get your anmitsu in the summer. It also has the things you might miss about Japanese convenience stores, like hot tea in cans and fresh onigiri.
