Skip the line at Dunkin down the street. This place has tons of options. You walk in and it smells amazzzzing. You can also purchase bags of ground coffee and the options are endless. The staff is very friendly and the atmosophere is easy-going and pleasant. They have lots of little table to sit and do work while you enjoy your coffee.

I am ashamed to say I have never been here before.Quaint small no frills coffee shop. They put all their effort into great coffee and espresso. They have some good looking deserts, local art to view and comfy chairs to relax in.The proprietor was very helpful and offered some samples of brewed coffee while I waited in line.I am not disappointed and will add their beans into my rotation.Thanks for a great visit !

Absolutely best coffee and cappuccino in town! I always buy Canaltowns dark roast to make my own espresso at home. I am Italian and I care a lot about coffee, its an important ritual for me and I feel that at Canaltown they feel the same. My mum came to Rochester twice and she always want to go there for a cappuccino. I highly recommend it.

The coffee is EXCELLENT! I bought a pound of whole bean coffee (Dark Roast) for my home coffee maker because I was so impressed with the flavor of their coffee. I ordered a hot Latte & added a little sugar to it but I choose to not get a flavor so I could judge the quality of their coffee that they roast themselves. I love coffee & I typically drink strong coffee and Canaltowns coffee was PERFECT to me.

Small, casual setting with a few bistro-like tables. They do their own coffee roasting here and the smell when you walk in is intoxicating.. in a great way. Their coffee is all fair trade, so it is a little more expensive, but well worth the experience. They have a small selection of baked goods, smoothies, hot and iced coffees as well as other bottled drinks. They also have coffee to be purchased by the pound and they will grind it up however you would like. The staff is always helpful and pleasant.

Best coffee Ive ever had in my life. Lots of great selections including organic coffee beans and a variety of teas. Very friendly staff and a home-like atmosphere that always smells fantastic. Paid for slice of cake and a large coffee. The coffee had a strange taste at first and on a second taste I realized I could taste a large amount of dish soap. It was to late for me to react though, since I was just then realizing that the soap had reached my stomach and that I would be sick fairly soon. Not wanting any conflict and also needing a private place to void my body of the soap coffee, I decided it was best to just leave and dump the remaining coffee.The cake? I never received it and thanks to the coffee situation I didnt get a chance to ask if I ever would.

BEST COFFEE IN THE WORLD! (And Ive been around the world and back) What makes the best coffee is where you get the green beans and then how soon you roast the bean before you make coffee. Well this place roasts the coffee beans everyday so it cant get fresher then that! And the places where they get the beans are only the highest quality locations. The atmosphere is awesome and relaxing. After the first time I stepped into this coffee shop I cant drink coffee anywhere else!My favorite coffee here is the Peruvian light roast in a French press! The lighter roasts have much more caffeine (because the longer the coffee is roasted the more caffeine gets burned out of the bean) and are a much smother coffee. Dont try it if you have heart issues!Update... still the best coffee in the world!

Canaltown is my go to coffee roaster. Im not a coffee nerd but the owner has been very helpful to me by giving me hints on how to best use and care for my espresso machine. No coffee Nazis here, just nice folks who roast and brew great coffee. Stop in soon.

Canal Town is among Rochester’s oldest “first great coffee places” which helped us all now appreciate coffee! Pete finds great joy in roasting great coffee to give his drinkers great joy. My absolute favorites are his smooth flavorful dark roasts.

So very impressed! We stumbled upon this place by accident, so glae we did. Delicious coffee, and carrot cake. Owner was very nice and helpful, has been open for 27 years. He imports the raw coffee beans from all over the world, and roasts then right there in his shop, cant get any fresher than that!

Coffee. Canaltown Coffee roasters do coffee. The raw beans are stacked in burlap sacks right next to the front door. Pete, the owner, is on site nearly every day to answer questions. He roasts the beans himself in a roaster visible from the seating area that includes locally made art. Selected for quality Canaltowns beans come from all over the globe. The staff is knowledgeable and can offer recommendations. They offer cold brewed, cappuccino, espresso, and a selection of regular and decaf blends. If you are from out of town Pete will ship your favorite to you wherever you are. And, as a bonus, there is a bean buyers club card. After ten pounds of beans you get a pound, your choice, for free.

This is truly one of the hidden gems of Rochester. There are so many varieties of coffee and they are all roasted right there in the store. The owner is also so friendly and passionate about coffee.

This is a true gem and Im sad I didnt discover this place sooner. I walked in and the owner greeted me at the counter, answered all my questions, and talked to me about the shop. He roasts his own coffee right in the shop multiple times a week so its always fresh. He offers many types of mixes, flavors, and single origin beans. You can tell they care about quality and their customers. I would definitely suggest this place for a nice quiet cup of coffee and some free Wi-Fi.

Ive been a customer since day one, (yeah im old), but, you simply will not find a better coffee shop in Rochester. Owner has coffee running through his veins, and it shows. Not only is Peter knowledgable, but hes friendly and usually there to help. If you are into coffee, its a must!

Great coffee, nicest staff, and a wonderful selection of coffee. If you want your coffee fresh, local, and reasonably priced (for nice coffee, dont compare the prices to Folgers!), go to Canaltown! Im amazed by the people lining up in both directions to go to the Dunkin Donuts in the morning, blocking traffic up, when this place usually has just a couple people in it for their morning wakemeup. Get out of Dunkin Donuts and find out what real coffee tastes like!
