Fun, little doughnut and burger place. We ended getting a couple of doughnuts for breakfast, but would definitely come back to try more. The doughnuts were great, and the prices were really good too. If I had to improve one thing, I would say I wish there was somewhere inside or outside to sit, so that you dont have to eat in the car or find somewhere else to go.

Ive waited 4 years for these donuts! (The store in Melbourne, Florida closed back then) They are just as good as I remembered and definitely worth the flight, uber, and walk to get to them!!! Ill have to come back again when they have some Honey Lavender left, as I was too late in the day for that. 110% recommend!!!

Just amazing customer service and a very friendly clientele. I got the Vegan Nashville Chicken Sandwich with vegan bacon and my bf got the Maple Bacon Beef Sandwich with a donut as a bun. Both of us loved our orders! For desert we got 3 donuts that knocked our socks off.Theres no indoor seating, but theres a middle school across the street with some benches to use if its after hours.

The burger is to die for! I literally walked a mile for it and the staff is amazing! Donuts are even better!

I was super excited to go here. This place looked really cute and Ive been wanting to go. But Im sad to say my experience was not the best. We got a half dozen donuts, 2 burgers, and fries. When we got there we were able to put our order in immediately and get our donuts. They said it would be a wait for the burgers and fries and we were ok with that. But what we didnt expect was a half hour wait. After we finally got our food we left. When I got to eat my veggie burger it was crunchy. It had been burnt so badly it was black. At least the donuts were good though.

Ordered 6 donuts and a breakfast sandwich. It took 25 mins for my breakfast sandwich to come out and when it finally did it had cheese which i specifically asked not to have (dairy allergy). I had already arrived home with my infant son and wasn’t going back and waiting for a new sandwich. I also wasn’t told that the Halloween donut was $7 before it was placed in a.box and i was cashed out. Frankly the service overall was poor and i heard the people multiple times ask what I was waiting for but no one ever addressed me.

Ive got some mixed feelings about this place. The service was fine; I took it to go and had no issues. The burger was good, but at this low/mid-range price point you can find better elsewhere. The donuts are great, and there is a great variety with some unusual items to try. Also, they have some heckish good dipping sauce that came with the fries (maybe a honey-mustard thing?) I had a craving for donuts for a couple months (I’m vegan, and didn’t knew where to get vegan donut) I had dream a couple of times eating donuts. Long story short, I found this place, and man…this donuts did not let me down. I can’t explain how freaking good they are. We bought 13 donuts…and before we left the parking lot there where 8 😂 also bought a couple of vegan burgers…they where just fire!!! Staff it’s really nice! And it’s not an expensive place a all. I just loved it!!! LOVE IT!!!!

It was easy to get here, parking was tight. The donut selection was great and every donut was fresh, sweet and yummy. Today’s winner was the lemon poppy seed.

We were on a small 4 day vacation and passing through the area. I went on to my Yelp app and found a bakery very close from our hotel.My daughter wanted to try the lavender donut and her boyfriend went with the maple bacon glazed donut and they both ordered a latte.I went with a powder sugar topped lemon donut and soda and Tony went with a chocolate glazed donut and strawberry jelly filled powder covered delight with white milk.We were very pleased with the staff, they were very patient while we looked over the mouth watering choices in the showcase. I couldnt work here, I would weigh a million pounds in no time flat!!The store was lovely and quiet!! Quiet is always nice!!!We finished our delicious pastries and my daughter and her boyfriend opted to get a half dozen mixed to go, which I never saw once it was in the backseat on the remaining part of our roadtrip...lol !!!!!

The African Student Union (ASA) at VCU highly recommend Sugar Shack Donuts. We recently had an event, and they made us 5 dozen donuts. Our event was a big success, partly due to the delicious donuts provided. These doughnuts were a huge hit with our members. In addition, the entire crew provides excellent customer service. Great vegan options for breakfast including donuts and biscuit sandwiches. Sandwiches come with hash bites that you can customize the seasoning on. Everything was really tasty.

Best donuts in the city. The only thing I have noticed is that they taste the best the same day they are made so saving some for a few days after you get them may affect the taste a little bit. If that means I have to make more trips out to get these then so be it. It is well worth the drive.

Emily informed me about what a hidden gem places like this are. They genuinely have the community in mind when it comes to running a business. She informed me how they often donate food to those in need. Not to mention she was super helpful and awesome!I stopped in just to get a gift card for my niece and instantly wanted to try everything. I have respect for places like this and will be telling all my friends about it.. also I think I will be back for a burger tomorrow..For now I will enjoy chowing down on one of the many variations of waffle fries they serve 😋 I think this is where the term finger licking good applies.

I was so excited for this place, but unfortunately I had a really disappointing experience with both customer service and product quality. I ordered a vegan burger on lettuce wrap & six vegan donuts. I received… two beef burgers on donuts as buns. (Before this experience I couldn’t have told you what the opposite of a vegan burger on a lettuce wrap was, but I guess now I know. It’s this.) When I spoke with someone at the store about this, they confirmed what I should have received and merely said “we’re training, so it’s a possibility you got the wrong thing.” Mistakes happen, but I would have expected an apology or at least an attempt to make it right. Anyway—anyone want some free burgers? Otherwise they’re going in the trash.

I wanted to give a higher rating but my last few encounters have been quite disappointing. I ordered here regularly but the service quality at this location has been diminishing. The last few orders I placed were placed well in advance and they still werent ready when I arrived. Despite having to wait I was pleasant on arrival, but the person I spoke to (I believe was the manager) had very little people skills and hesitated to even apologize. It was quite an apathetic transaction. My plant based burger was thinner than usual and was very hard and dry as if it were sitting for hours. I still enjoy the Chesterfield location but my days are done at this location.

The donuts here are great and they cater to all kinds of different allergy/sensitivity needs which is much appreciated! Ive tried the vegan and non-vegan donuts and they are all delicious. When I stopped by before work one day, I had to wait about 15 minutes to give my order and the person behind the counter let me know that if I ordered online, I wouldnt have to wait as long.The next time we wanted to order from Sugar Shack, I remembered this and ordered ahead. I got a dozen donuts, two burgers with fries, and two milkshakes. The receipt said that it would be ready in 35 minutes, so I got there in roughly 40 to give a little wiggle room. When I had submitted my order, it allowed me the option for curbside pickup, which I selected. On the receipt that came to my email, they said that they were no longer doing curbside pickup, so I wasnt super sure how I should be picking up my order.I parked and went inside. There were not any signs that indicated how to pick up orders that had been ordered online or for curbside pickup or anything, so I ended up waiting in line after a couple of people. The place was packed at the time. When I got up to the front, the person at the register said that she would start putting together my order. It turned out that they had not even put the donuts in a box... Or started cooking the burgers and fries were making the milkshakes. I stood there waiting for a while until finally someone came over and said that I could wait in my car. I finally received my order about 30 minutes later. The order was slightly off, as the seasonings we chose for the fries were not used at all, but it was fine. The person who delivered them to the car was very nice (and I should note that despite the super long wait time, I was also very nice. No good comes from being mean to people, as far as Im concerned.)Overall, still four stars because Im sure they are understaffed, like all the other local establishments. The donuts are great and their lunch food is decent. Expect a wait and maybe dont bother ordering online thinking itll save you any time!

Sugar Shack catered our wedding and the donuts were a hit! Always tasty and the guest loved the grab-and-go option so they could keep dancing. We also provided donut bags so they can take some home with them at the end of the night.

Visiting from another state. I was soamped when I saw there was a vegan friendly desert shop in Richmond. My first time trying a vegan donut as well. I got two of them and omg soooo good. Definitely getting some more before I leave. And the cashier was nice and stylish (in her unique way), love it. And the shop is so cute as well.

I ordered 3 burgers. Bad service at the counter as he couldn’t keep track of my very simple order, so it became 2 transactions. Burgers and fries were all over cooked and terrible. Drinks were flat. Extremely overpriced for the food quality, even if it had been good. Cost twice as much as I would have paid someplace like 5guys.

Delicious and if they do not have it on the shelf, you can ask for a certain flavor to be made for you fresh. The only reason I gave it a 4 was because I ordered a dozen donuts, but when my family drove off and checked, they only boxed 11, and it was too late to go back. And nope! No one else nor myself ate it! If we were only nearer (the one in Virginia Beach closed), we would have gone back for the missing donut.

Some of the best donuts I’ve had in a while! Very fresh and unique flavors. We tried the French toast yeast donut and a lemon Oreo long john. Both were amazing!! Also- very affordable! Some craft donut shops charge upwards of $5 per donut but not here. Can’t wait to make this a weekend tradition.

Everyone was so friendly and personable and happy! More than plenty in terms of staff. I got an iced coffee with coconut and vanilla and a Samoa donut. Did not get pics but the prices were great and it was so yummy! Parking can be tight but dont let that deter you.

I have never been let down by Sugar shack in my life. Since moving from Richmond, anytime I would be in or around the area, this is a must stop. Even if that means I have to take a slight detour whenever going to Kings Dominion, it’s happening. Best donuts ever, Samoa as well as the blueberry or red velvet cake donuts are my personal favorites!

Plenty of vegan options. *NOTE* the donut prices are set up by shelf and labeled by “Classic” “Special” and “House” so you can match the price on the board with the donut label. I went tug Chocolate glaze chocolate chip and salted caramel glaze. They’re a cross between yeast and cake donuts so they’re a denser than yeast and lighter than cake. Lots of non-vegan options also. Well priced (two of my donuts pictured were $3.45).

I only came for a cup of joe and a donut. Tasty stuff. Worth a visit.

We love Luther Burger and go to the Hugenot location.We opted to go to the Richmond Luther Burger because we were out that way. We ordered a vegan hot dog and a vegan burger, fries, and vegan shakes. My husband ordered online and we checked in online once we got there. We waited for a half hour past the time the order was supposed to be ready. I called to make sure they knew we were there and its a good thing I did because apparently they didnt know we were there. So we waited for them to make the order and drove home. We were sorely disappointed when we opened the bag. My vegan burger was missing the tempeh bacon, was a sloppy mess, and the bun was stale. We never got the vegan hot dogs before and thought it was going to be a pretty good hot dog as it cost $8. My husband got it with tempeh bacon and caramelized onions. When he unwrapped the hot dog, it had less than a spoonful of diced raw onions, one piece of tempeh bacon torn in half and stuck on either side of the hot dog all housed in a stale bun. The hot dog was very small and looked like the LiteLife hot dogs you can buy at the grocery store that cost $3 a pack for 8 of them. This sad little hot dog wasnt worth $2 let alone $8! Normally I wouldnt complain but this was ridiculous. So I called and they were very nice and apologetic about it stating they were understaffed and had new people working in the kitchen. They issued a refund for the hot dog. But I dont think we will be going back to this location or getting the vegan hot dog again.

Small but friendly and big on taste. Hardest part deciding what flavor. This mornings choice was smores and it was delicious. A camp fire without the camp fire which is just as well because I was eating it. Ill be back while Im visiting Richmond. So many varieties and so little time....

Literally the best apple fritter Ive ever had, we will be back for more.

This place is a little inconsistent... sometimes, the vegan shakes are REALLY good and creamy, and sometimes theyre icy and watery. Sometimes the baked goods are really soft and stuffed full of custard, other times theyre stale and have a dollop of cake frosting in them. Sometimes you get fries with your sandwich, sometimes you dont. The chicken sandwich has been delicious every time Ive gotten it, even though they regularly forget my fries.

Clean, pleasant, atmosphere. Pastries are varied in assortment. Yummy! Great experience. 👍

This place was fine. The donuts are all basically vanilla icing with toppings. The donut itself is good, as are the toppings, but it lacks creativity.

My first visit to Sugar Shack OBX. Did not expect such wonderful food and treatment. Nothing fancy but my large fried shrimp and okra were delicious and plenty of them ! Served with a smile and the ambiance of an OBX upscale fish market I was delighted and satiated. These folks are serious about good food and service.

Yummy donuts! Unusual flavors but they all are delicious. The peanuts in the Babe Ruth donut were a little too much for a light fluffy donut, but the coconut on the Samoa donut was just right. No indoor seating, but they do have a few chairs outside in the parking lot area. Definitely worth a stop.

I placed an order online via DoorDash. 6 donuts, a burger and a hot dog.I wait 45 minutes for my order and 4 donuts arrived. Not even all 6. No burger. No hot dog.It’s annoying but mistakes happen. I called the store and the girl working told me she was working alone and overwhelmed, she initially apologized for the error. I was prepared to just chalk it up to humor error, contact DoorDash for a refund and move on with my life.But what really tipped the scales was that the employee I talked to had the audacity to imply as the conversation was wrapping up that I was lying because she’s worked at sugar shack for ‘a long time’. What???I would not recommend this sugar shack to literally anyone but I WOULD recommend to this particular sugar shack that they hire employees that don’t blame the customer for their inability to count to 6.

Great customer service and delicious fresh doughnuts! Only thing to mention is if you order online for an early morning pickup, call them before you leave as the doughnuts need time to rise and cook - anything fresh may not be ready until after 8am. Boston Creme, the doughnut holes, and apple fritters are some of our favorites!!

Ordered a vegan burger meal with everything but sauce got it home and realized it was a double Burger with no cheese and had sauce on it, granted I should have checked before pulling off, ok so I went back let them know they gave me a new meal and got it home took a bite and yuck. The burger tasted liked it had been pre cooked and sitting, with a cold piece of cheese on top, fries tasted like they were redropped. Overall I would not try it again. Makes me wonder about their donuts. Anyways, They seem very overwhelmed in there and they could really use some help.

It wasnt to busy, they have lot parking so you dont have to look on the street. The donuts were super soft and the coffee is strong. They offer a nice verity of hot teas.

This review is based off the Vegan food that is served here at Luther Burger. The vegan hotdog was horrible! Super dry and I asked for onions which were just tossed into the box not on the hotdog. The vegan burger had no flavor and was extremely dry.

Our first time here (as we are new to RVA). Great service. Slightly longer waits than usual (apparently) due to Mothers Day. Staff was personable and gracious. The donuts were outstandinf. The uniqueness and variety of flavors are enticing enough for us to be back soon!! We will also come back to try their burgers!!

I live out-of-town and I was looking for a good to-go breakfast; Sugar Shack was exactly what I needed. The iced coffee was smooth, the donuts were delicious, and the staff was friendly.

The fruit based donuts have some tartness and are a good way to cut the sweetness, the others are just really really sweet. Ive been really bummed by the coffee drinks everytime. The last dirty chai I got was so bitter I couldnt drink it.

After a year dealing with Covid-19, I was disappointed with the wait time as there was hardly anyone in the store. Seemingly, online orders are a priority over someone waiting 3+ minutes at the counter.In any event, donuts are still tasty and delightful.

Purchased donuts there for the first time and not planning on returning. Nothing fancy donuts cost $28 a dozen. Extremely pricey.My mistake it was $23 not $28. I spoke to the manager and they will inform clients on future purchases the cost when placing orders. They also offer a bakers dozen for around $15 which is the typical charge. I raised the review to 4 stars because they responded to my review within a hour

I genuinely do not understand the hype as I can find better donuts almost anywhere and they’re just not good. Not to mention I’ve heard from former employees that the owner is a terrible person and mistreats them (unless there’s been new management since 2020).

I found the doughnuts to be pretty dry and bready.

Got a mix of donuts from here and they were all fantastic. We were surprised and delighted by the fact that the base of the donuts werent sickeningly sweet, and really relied on the toppings to complement the flavor. The frosted donuts also arent overly saturated with thick frosting, theres a nice methodical layer that strikes a good balance. I got the samoa donut and loved it.

With this place only being two blocks from where I live, I’m super upset that it took me almost three years to come and try it. This place is AMAZING! I’ve only been here twice so far, but through six doughnuts and the best chai tea latte I’ve ever had, I can definitively say that I’m certain there’s not a bad thing here. I love Sugar Shack, and this location being the original one makes it that much more special. It may not have any outdoor seating like some of the other spots, but Ive found the quality to be A+ consistently vs some other locations that are sometimes off.
