My go to place to get comics. The guy who runs the place is very friendly and knowledgeable. It can get crowded fast and if you plan on driving you will have to park on the road. They do have more than just comics too so if you are looking for manga and graphic novels, check them out!

The best comic store in Virginia. I have never had such a quick, accurate and fun experience with another comic store. Reminds me so much of the comic store “Memory Lane Comics” that I grew up with, they truly have that cool old school look but a cool Nu-Richmond vibe. If you have a chance to meet Patrick than your in for a treat and recommend you take the chance to pick his brain.

Dude had comics I had been looking for in a store for a long time and took me straight to them. One of the best comic shops I have ever been to.

I LOVE this shop and I come by to support it whenever Im in town. They are very friendly and have a great selection of comics. But the parking enforcement is EXTREMELY aggressive in this area. Ive paid a $75 tix, so I usually make my visit quick. Today they were not busy so I stayed longer to shop and I got towed and had to pay $135 to get my car back. No fault of this shop, but I just cant afford to come here any longer as the parking is limited and expensive. Still giving the shop 5 stars because these guys are a great shop. Just in a terrible location if youre driving.

This is probably the best Comic store in Richmond these days. Its a bit tight but theres PLENTY here. Manga, Indies, and Mainstream all well repped. The owner is mad personable.

Nice shop, nice owner, tons of back issues BUT its always impossible to even look at them since the shop is too cluttered. Some of the back issues are super overpriced too but I still suggest checking them out. Just be prepared to move box after box out of your way.

I’ve been buying comics here every Wednesday for the past couple of years and I go no where else. They are very helpful whenever I have a question or need a recommendation. They are very generous and kind with prices and just overall provide excellent customer service. Support your local stores here in RVA, Excelsior!

Look, if I’m looking for new release comics and they’re not bagged or boarded, they’re cover price. If you’re unaware, bagged comics means they’ve been polybagged and sometimes given a board to help preserve the comics condition. Then the comic is priced accordingly if it’s market value is different and given a tag or tape with the new fair price. Most comics are around $4 at their retail price (cover price) and then the books value may increase thereafter.I understand these books gain some good value and profit for the shop, but don’t grab books I spent three hours looking for (which were unbagged when I found them and at retail price) and proceed to reprice them. If they were a different price than at retail you would have put in the work yourself as a good shop owner and priced them beforehand. Mind you, these books are in boxes and shelves in fair view to be searched through. I spent a good amount of time looking for some good comics just to be up-charged and practically deceived. If you miss out on some profit that’s your fault as the owner for not pricing them accurately when you should have. It’s shameful and frustrating.For further context, the books I found were apparently of greater value beyond their retail price. The owner quickly bagged and repriced the books I found to prices I declined to purchase. I honestly find it questionable whether or not he knew these books even existed before I had found them. Now, the most frustrating part is knowing that if either one of these books sell beyond this point the shop will be benefiting/profiting off the due diligence and backbone of someone that doesn’t even work there.Regardless, as nice as the owner is that’s a pretty shady thing to do. The owner said that it’s policy that he can charge the price as he sees fit. That would be fair to say if the shop had their books already priced and out in view for costumers to see and not be deceived at check out. The whole experience is of poor taste, principle, and standard. I regret not demanding the books at the price at which I found them.If you shop here and put in some time to pull a couple good comics, keep the books you pick close or expect the owner to research them on eBay since he didn’t devote the time to do it beforehand. Bad Comic Karma!

I have a pull box here. The guys who run the store are very knowledgeable and very friendly. They are able to help beginners and people who arent sure what to get and they are great people to talk to if you are a comic veteran. I love supporting them and getting all of my comics here.

Richmond is fortunate to have a comic shop like this. I visit shops all around the US and Velocity is great. The selection is amazing. Theres everything you need from Marvel, DC Vertigo, Image, and the other major publishers. But, there is a ton of square footage devoted to Indie Press and Kickstarterish projects. I was almost overwhelmed by how much I wanted to read in the shop. I asked for a recommendation from the owner (?), I told him what Ive been reading lately, and he made two solid picks for me. This is the shop I would visit if I lived in Richmond.

A fantastic comic book and graphic novel store with a ton of selection. As much as I love graphic novels, Ive never really gotten into the superhero genre, and this is one of the few comic stores Ive been in that had such an excellent selection of graphic novels that werent a part of the Marvel or DC universe. They had all my favorites, plus many that Ive been dying to read! That being said, there were tons of great classic superhero comics as well. Definitely recommend for any fan of graphic literature!

This is my favorite comic book store I have found on the east coast. The selection is almost to much I wanted to spend thousands of dollars in one day. The staff are super helpful and whenever I am. In Richmond Ill always visit this place. Such a great shop!

Setup a subscription box and save some money. If you tell the crew what your into Im sure they can help you find comics that you didnt even know about that will soon become your favorites. Also they always have new key books, 1st appearances, grails, etc coming through the door so I never know what fantastic new addition to my collection I will end up with whenever I visit :)

Patrick and his team are awesome. I have been going there for several years now and i could not imagine shopping for my comics anywhere else. They are extremely knowledgeable about the product, very helpful when you are clueless(as sometimes i am) and they make the whole experience very enjoyable. As best i can tell, they know most of their customers by name and treat everyone with a personable experience when they visit. I highly recommend this shop to everyone!

Great shop with a great selection and a great staff in a great location. If they dont have what you want in stock theyll order it. Theres parking on Broad, Goshen, and Clay streets. The guys behind the desk are friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming. Five stars is too few, but it will have to do.

Velocity Comics is an amazing spot in Richmond. The owner is very friendly and is willing to order any comics or graphic novels that he does not have in stock, and is willing to have a long conversation with you about your interests. He also has connections to many VCU arts professors. The selection of both comics and toys are amazing. This store is a perfect place for any comic lover to visit.

No pre order retainer fee, they put all my favorites in a numbered box for me, so they never even hit the shelves. Super dedicated and equally laid back shopkeepers, doing everything they can to help me fill in my collection

I love this comic book shop! I have been to comic book shops in each of the 30 states Ive visited and none of them give me that cozy, at home feel the way Velocity Comics does. The cool humans who own and operate the shop have introduced me to artists whose careers Ive followed closely ever since. The shop doesnt look big but it holds the greatest, most diverse collection Ive seen in one place, including a Zine collection. Take a few hours pursuing their treasures or ask the guys behind the counter to suggest a good match for your genre preference, artist style, or even your current mood (they found me a comic based off my mood once and it was on point).

Hands down the best comic book store in Richmond. Friendly staff, great selection. When I was new to comics and I wasnt sure what I wanted to read they told me they would make a pull box for me even if I only wanted to read one series a month. Never had any issues with service.They also have regular sales that tends to fall on major holidays!

The store is well organized, and if you cant find something the staff knows where it is. They will also order some things for you if they dont have what youre looking for in stock, which is great. Its also very clean compared to other comic shops Ive visited in the area, and its in a great location. The owners are friendly and knowledgeable in just about all things Comics. One of my favorite local places to visit in Richmond.

Kind of small and very tight but well worth the trip. Wide collection of both old and new comics, graphic novels, and even some action figures and Funko Pops. They even have lesser known titles which I liked. The employees are also very knowledgeable about a wide range of topics, and are willing to see anything you want to sell and offer a fair price on it. Would highly recommend for anyone new to comics, avid fans, and anyone in between.

Manga, Comics and trades, more then you can imagine

It was an amazing experience. I asked for several different comics some obscure, and wanted the full run of them and they literally went to the back and looked for all of them. I live in D.C. but I will absolutely be back, totally worth it. Thanks.

A very fine store indeed! Staff was knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. Free Comic Book Day 2018 was noteworthy! I recommend this place to anyone, from rookies just getting started to veterans looking for that missing back issue. Velocity Comics is a step above the rest.

My sisters and I were visiting from VB, and saw this shop. Stopped in and was amazed. We got a couple of Bobs burgers comics because Ive never seen them and star wars Golden books! The clerk was very friendly, and even the customers. Definitely a cool spot.

Incredible number of comics ranging from super heroes to indie graphic novels. The layout is perfect for walking through in one go so you dont miss anything...that said, you could spend days looking through the selection!

Ive set up boxes at comic shops all along the east coast in various cities where ive lived and Velocity is, without a doubt, the best. The entire staff is always so nice, helpful and have great recommendations. The owner does a ton of work making sure avid comic readers are up to date with releases, general comic news and events in the area.

Very friendly guy runs the place. Very substantial selection. Prices are a bit high but these are brand new comics so its not unreasonable. Wish they would bring in more Batman comics though...

Hands down the best LCBS Ive been to. These guys (Pat and Rawn) are professional, yet fun and casual. Their suggestions are almost always on point based off of your subscriptions. Patrick works with his customer base on a personal level. Whether youre looking for mainstream Marvel/DC comics or even super obscure indie comics, theyve got the best selection of any shop Ive been to. Even if they dont have it, theyll order it for you. This was a great store to visit! They have a LOT of backstock and trades, and the employees were conversational and friendly.

They have a wonderful subscription service, where you can set up certain comics to be dropped into your box for easy pick-up. Plus a good selection of old and new.

What more do I need to say??? They got what you want if they dont have it they can order it. The staff is friendly and welcoming and they’ll help you find. Whatever you need.

A pretty cool store with a wide selection that has an emphasis on independent releases. You have your weekly releases, some graphic novels and some manga too. A really nice place to discover and shop at.
