Terrible shopping experience. We drove couple hours to go there and expected we could get some good products, however, there were no price and no product name on many items we would like to buy and people working there looked not familiar with their products and did not want to answer.....One of the bad experience I had shopped. Definitely will not go there to shop again.

Tan A Supermarket is not my ideal place to shop at, but there are too few Asian groceries in the area for me to be picky. The smell, general cleanliness, and attitudes of cashiers/baggers are not so great. Grand Mart beats Tan A in all three categories (unfortunately, Grand Mart does not offer many of the products that I want which I can only find at Tan A). However, these things I can suck up and deal with. The biggest issues for me are that many items are not priced (they put price labels on the shelves and not the items themselves so oftentimes there is one price on a shelf containing multiple products so you dont know which item the price goes to) and that the store-packed products (frozen meats, fried tofu, etc) are neither labeled with a packaged on date nor a sell by date so you have no clue how long a product has been sitting in the freezer/fridge. On one of my visits, I was in the tofu section of the open-refrigerated shelves, I noticed one section of the fridge was not operating correctly. As I stood in front of the section, I felt no cold air and the tofu sitting in that section were completely warm. The packaging on the tofu is labeled keep refrigerated and that entire tofu section was not being refrigerated. I havent purchased tofu since that visit so maybe it had just broke earlier that day and they were not yet aware. I would hope that section of the refrigerated shelves has since been repaired. I would give two stars, but I bumped it up to three stars, because on my last visit, I ordered from the butcher in the back for the first time. I honestly was nervous as it appeared he didnt speak English and I was worried it was going to be a hassle for him to understand what I wanted. However, he was very patient with me as I pointed at the glass to what I wanted and then to which specific cut of pork belly in the display. This man did not speak a word to me during our interaction, but he did not seem bothered with our language barrier and I really appreciated that!

I have been shopping here before and after COVID with the same experiences. I cook and eat just about everything. Being able to visit a store like this is usually a well-needed, restocking, fun event. NEVER at Tan-A and I think it is time I take my business elsewhere. Thank goodness I have been able to source anything I would normally get here someplace else. I will even drive to NOVA.In short the customer service I receive (or really lack there of) is not worth the trip or me continuing to spend my $ here.

I shop at Tan-A all the time. It is a Chinese grocery store. They also sell many non-food Asian items: dishes, cooking utensils, etc. Of course, the Tan-A is mostly attractive to people who want to cook Chinese food.

This store is over crowded with merchandise but if you take your time you can find just about any ingredient youll need for Asian dishes. With that being said, the regular cashiers(an mature lady and man) who are probably the owners have absolutely no personalities and limited customer service skills which makes shopping there not as pleasant as Im used to in specialty markets.I had to swing by the other day to get a special tea and was checked out by a very pleasant young lady. Her bubbly personality is just what the store need. She actually spoke to every person that she waited on and even had general conversations that didnt reduce the check out speed.Hope shell continue working there and maybe they will hire others with the same customer service skills

My favorite Asian grocery store in this area. They almost always have what I need, most of which I cant get anywhere else! Family owned store, good to go to look for hard to find Asian favorites. Don’t be going expecting a corporate level customer service. They take a while to warm up. It took me a couple of visits. However, they will try to answer your questions. It’s best to have an idea on what you want to make or buy and they can point out the choices.

I went into this market today with large list of Asian foods. I tried to ask 3 different people for assistance with no help. They didn’t even attempt to help. I ended on making a very large purchase but I will not go back here. I love a lot of their products(and they have a great selection), but sometimes the produce is spoiled on the shelf, and they never seem to have a packing or sell by date. The labels on the shelves dont match what is sitting above it, and the prices dont match the item labels. Most if the time though, the item is cheaper than whats listed on the shelf, so theres a bit of fun in spinning the wheel on what your total will be.

Yes, they are rude here but the amount of Chinese foods is great. Their mangos are usually the best around and the snack section is always fun to pick at. Their steamed bun selection is better than the other Asian markets but their produce could be better. It’s an old store and they do have a small butchery with a seafood selection. I usually skip this and go for New Grand for meats and seafood. Just a better presentation over their. If you are looking for more Japanese items, there is a small little Tokyo Market in Carytown. You feel like a bull in a glass shop but it’s fun and they have things you won’t find elsewhere.

My mother being from Thailand, we have been to tan a several times so she can get the products she needs to make authentic thai food. They have products from so many different asian countries, you can find a little bit of everything, from every where at tan a. Yes, the prices may be higher than a product in a typical grocery store, but you have to remember this is a specialty store. The employees there do keep to themselves, steadily working away, but are super nice and give us free goodies sometimes when we check out.

There’s an amazing amount of food here. You can find whatever you need or what. Although, the produce area is very dirty with black mold growing on the back of the display cases. The frozen beef bones for soup have no packing date nor any pull date. Seems like that is a health violation. Additionally, the shopping carts are absolutely filthy - the inside of the carts are caked in grime. There’s nothing available to clean them with, so bring your own wipes. The bagger did not know seem to know that produce and raw meat should not be bagged together and placed so many items in a box that I could not lift it!

This store has many of the international food items you would want. They also have cooking equipment and even a few health and beauty items. They have a lot of the items you just cant find in the traditional grocery store. However, this place is dirty. There is no other way to put it. The baskets are the same dirty, messy shopping baskets that have been there for years. It looks like no one takes the time to sweep the floors and carpets throughout the day and God forbid you wonder if the windows and glass doors are clean. Their prices are reasonable but theyre not inexpensive enough to explain how unkempt the place is. Fresh seafood sits out in the open and you wonder what they do if a fly lands on something.... For me, this is only a place I would go to pick up a few pre-packaged items that I need on special occasions. Tan A, you offer great products but you HAVE to clean up around there. It smells horribly and theres no excuse for that.
