THE owner Jonas S. and his aquatic team at Sierra Fish & Pets in Renton are outstanding!!! A very personable and knowledgeable team with a huge selection of quality aquatic supplies and fish. (Our SF&P hallway tank currently has an eye catching wooden root, a variety of live plants for texture and several majestic angel fish that interact with both cats and people)OUR two tuxedo cats, Mischievous Meadow & Mellow Mica, spend alot of time hanging out with their social fish buddies and they grew up interacting with angel fish since they were kittens. Our angel tank provides the perfect excuse am/pm to disconnect from the world and to connect with our cats and peaceful angel fish.MANY thanks to Jonas S., Alex A. & Doris at the SF&P shop for taking such wonderful care of their customers at every stage of their aquarium journey!!!M.M.B. Had a great experience at Sierra fish and pet.. employees were awesome, A woman named Samantha educated me very much about the nitrogen cycle and how aquariums work. The store is huge, they have a lot of things you wouldnβt see at a petco or petsmart. The employees are very knowledgeable and nice, the place is well kept, and I recommend this store to any pet beginnersβ¦
This place is awesome! Wonderful selection of supplies for exotic pet keepers! Worth the slightly longer drive for the great selection and supporting a local business. Our leopard gecko is gonna love her crickets :)
Great little place that me and girlfriend have gone to a few times for some aquarium equipment and fish, everybody is super nice and helpful, I had a nice chat with one of them about their ghost eels and stuff too as well as caring for a while different amount of critters. My only complaint which could be just from my own inexperience so take it with a grain of salt is that both times there were a lot of worms (flatworms I believe?) in some of the tanks and I understand that some species itβs fine for but at least to me it seemed worrying even though they were all quarantined, they could have come in on this fish before hand anyways so who knows but great place overall!
Got a fish for my 3 years old boy yesterday price is good, they have a a lot of options to chose from and a lot of equipment. very nice
I love this store! Best selection of items and healthy pets, staff is always nice and helpful, and they have an amazingly beautiful resident macaw! This place is a gem.
Pretty awesome spot! Always have everything we need for our pets. Although few of the employees may be a little unusual
I really love this shop. Doris has been a staple in my fish keeping hobby for a long time. The only have few, and theyre more just nit picking downsides. Great shop, great stock, knowledgeable staff, very good pet store.
The enclosures for the birds are a bit disturbing. Not nearly enough perches or toys for green cheeks cockatiels and budgies, theyβre all just crowded together on the ground. Enclosures look like they havenβt been cleaned in AGES, literal cobwebs in them. Take better care of your feathered friends.
Have always gotten pet supplies here mainly now for our fish tank. Well our tank sprung a leak possibly due to major heat wave temps and this is the best most economical place to buy a replacement! Staff is knowledgeable and theyve got several size choices. Highly recommend them.
Great local pet and fish store. Family owned, Great selection of everything from toys for dogs and cats. Great selection of fish tanks. And Great selection of a lot of different kinds of fish, birds and reptiles. This is where I got my first snake from. She is doing great, have had her for about a year now.Its the only pet shop Ill go too.
Didnt have a large selection of lizards or spiders or snakes but had a great selection of seawater saltwater fish tanks and living spaces for various animals
Worth a trip just cus theres so much stuff here, but its def hit-or-miss depending on what Im going there for. some things have good prices, but the place is really disorganized and not everything is priced (or same items with different prices). Ive asked for help finding products before but the interaction usually ends with the employee saying sorry, i dont know, so i usually just price comp against Amazon for what i can or cant find here. there is an older female employee who is super grouchy and is never wearing a mask, she gives the place an aggressive energy thats uncomfortable enough that i dont buy anything if shes cashiering (shes snapped at me before). the aquatics workers are always nice but they are way understaffed and seem to be scrambling no matter the customer count. the aquarium plants are usually in rough shape. hardscape & aquasoils have decent pricing.
They always have crickets at a reasonable price. The staff is also very nice and helpful
Been going to this place for two years. Fairly clean, lots of pet options, and the employees there are very nice. The lady who owns it, or at least runs it, is very nice. Would recommend over big chain stores like PetCo or PetSmart. Support local!
Reliable provider of pets, love that they take abandoned pets and find them new homes. however, there are some concerns. one worker stepped into the small animal enclosures with shoes on, which could transfer bacteria and germs that could harm the pets. they also threw cage parts from one cage to another with no regard for where the baby guinea pigs were, and hit one of the hide tubes that they were hiding in.
I first became aware of Sierra Fish and Pets back in 2005 when I was in high school and they were in Issaquah and went by Blue Sierra. Back then I knew nothing about reef keeping or saltwater fish. But they had a fuzzy dwarf lionfish in stock and I was hooked. I wasnt able to keep a reef tank until just a couple years ago but having a store like Sierra Fish and Pets for support is a must if youre going to be successful in the hobby. Its really great to be able to work with a store to find whatever youre looking for. With their help I am hoping to find a Pygmy Red Rooster Waspfish π€
You need to take better care of your animals. Specifically aquatics. Please
Definitely the best pet fish store out here. All the employees are very helpful and knowledgeable about anything you ask them and they have a lot of fish. Any pet that you have can get its needs taken care of at Sierras! Im there every week blowing money coming join me!! Lol
I go to Sierra for feeder rats for my ball python and fish supplies for my aquarium. Call before going if you are getting rats or mice. They get delivered locally and sometimes they are out of fresh guys. Great place to shop.
Still a really great place for fish and other pets. The owner once saved my Angelfish after another fish nearly killed it. Forever grateful for her expertise. A friendly store.
Ive been going to this pet store since i was little. They offer a great selection of dry goods, live animals (reptiles, birds, feeders, rabbits, cats, fishes, and they have a small saltwater section that could use some work.
The reason why im putting one star is because i bought my first fish here & we asked for recommendations for the tanks & filters & which they recommend us a tank that was in promotion & they told us it was recommend for that fish so we bought it & after we set it up not even 3 hours that the fish was in there it got stuck to the filter which upsets me because they should known & should tell thier customers about it they didnt want to give us a guaranteed on the fish we spend 110 on everything & they only gave us 70 dollars back really bad customer service after i returned it the lady name Doris had a really customer service she was mad. I do not recommend that store i will never ever ever ever go back...
Big selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff, decent prices
They took great care of me at the register making sure I get all the discounts for my purchase.
Have what I need for my guinea pigs, their favorite vitamin c cookies and Timothy hay hideys they love!
Decent amount of fish to choose from. Helpful employees as well.
Great place to get fish.. And live pet food
All I have to say is wow! Cant find a better live corral set up! Fish supper healthy. Havent seen great fish tank care in years. Recommend working with the fish guy here if your new to aquariums or need fish tank help!
The store is awesome staff is friendly, they have a good variety of reptiles, fish and many more go check them out!
Ive been shopping here for close to around 3-4 years now and everytime Ive come Ive always had a pleasant experience! Im a fish keeper so I can only speak about the fish section (although everything else does look good) the fish selection is fantastic! Ive gotten multiple Saltwater, Freshwater fish and inverts as well as coral here and all the time theyve been healthy and disease free. With them taking in peoples fish, its always a surprise to see what they have in store. They even took in my Saltwater fish (including a Valentini puffer I got from them 2 years prior) and they all found good homes! Super good prices on everything, and some stuff you cant at other places. My family also ended up adopting a puppy here from their collaborations with Gingers pet rescue and weve had him for over a year now and hes inseparable. Really awesome for Fish and Aquatic things, Dog adoptions, and the staff is super awesome! I highly suggest checking this place out if youre visiting or in the area, Ill still be shopping here as long as Im still in Washington!
Went here based on the positive reviews and right from the get-go was let down. The store itself is incredibly cluttered and disorganized, with random boxes lying around, an assortment of junk on the top shelves, and dirt and filth under the fish tanks. Then comes the real concern: their birds and small animals. From the start the cages they offer are completely inadequate and far too small, meeting no minimum standard. They also sell fishbowls, as if that is still acceptable. Several of the finches were sickly looking, with patches of missing feathers that could not be ascribed to molting. They had no toys, very little stimulation, and were housed in dirty enclosures. The small animals were similar: a single hide, no chews, and overcrowded. The rats (incredibly charming, affectionate, intelligent little creatures) had nothing to do except lie around and sleep. Even box stores make some semblance of trying with something to chew, but their rats, mice, and hamsters had nothing at all.Their bearded dragons looked dehydrated and too skinny, and the longer I spent the worse I felt. Guinea pigs and rabbits are housed together despite their different dietary requirements and potential for disease transmission. Different species absolutely should not be cohabitated. To top it off, their hamsters were clearly brachycephalic. If your provider of small animals is deliberately selling brachycephalic hamsters, something is very wrong. Left frustrated, disappointed, and disturbed.
Lots of tanks but lots of empty or dirty ones. Some tanks had cyano growing in them. Prices are reasonable. They will special order fish or equipment.
I go to Sierra for the fish. Yes, its sometimes has a bit of a smell or the tanks arent always clean but whi cares, Im there for the fish and theyre always healthier than the box stores. This is one of my favorite LFS and they help answer questions and have good insight.
The spot was cool, however...there was an injured mouse that shouldve received medical attention or at least out of its misery. π
I love this place. The employees are intelligent helpful and just great. Its always been a pleasant experience.
I would write this place better but it seems like every time I go in there none of the employees want to assist customers and youre standing there cluelessly waiting for help while they staple papers together which is clearly not important at the time because you have a customer waiting for you and it seems like they hire a bunch of juveniles who want a job but dont want to do work. And also theres always some overpriced fish thats either dead or diseased I saw one of their blue koi has a hole rotten through his lip and did they remove the fish that treat it no they just let it sit there and then act like because theyre not a big company that theyre a saint. Wrongo also super overpriced and the exact same things that Petco and PetSmart are selling dont be fooled.
It was concerning to see their large bearded dragon that an employee claimed to be 2 years old looking severely dehydrated and super small for his age. They also use a red heat lamp for it which is terrible for bearded dragons. Anyone with knowledge on bearded dragons know that. Refer to the picture I uploaded. It was sad to see. If you guys need a reptile associate, let me know. Looks like you guys may need some help.
Large selection for pets including exotics . Fair prices.
This is a wonderful pet shop, like the old stores you just dont find anymore. My family and I will definitely be going out of our way to buy our pets and supplies here instead of going to other big box stores. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and there is a huge range of products and animals. Dont be fooled by the size of the store!
Great selection of fish and products for other animals!
Best pet store Ive seen in a long time. Prices seem reasonable and their fish selection was pretty good. Staff were friendly. They were much busier than I expected though so during these covid times try to go at off hours if you can.
The animals live in overcrowded or too small for the animal. Ball python with no space to stretch.
Overcharge me today, I should check the price before I leave the store and live plant many of them price not specified different worker can be different price. hope they do something about it but still I would come back here
My partner and I bought our two rats from this store over two years ago! We initially were going to buy one, but were correctly informed at least two would be best. The rats arenβt feeder rats, but from an actual breeder. They were/are still healthy and happy, and are just now showing signs of natural aging. Weβre thinking of getting two new babies from here very soon. Staff was very friendly and informative, and helped us with picking out the correct enclosures and supplies for our little fur balls.
The store is a crowded mess. But some of their prices beat online prices. I rather go here than petco. I kinda like the mom and pop jibe of this place.
I go here constantly for all our pets needs, the staff is BUSY but always helpful you just need to flag them down.
Awesome local shop with all kinds of pet supplies; we have a rabbit and a cat, and weve been able to get any and all supplies here that weve ever needed.
Its a good place. π
Carries a wider variety of exotic pet supplies compared to a Petsmart or such where its focus on dogs and cats. Was able to find what I needed for my gecko and theres so much to look at in there! Really cool for a first visit!
In the aquarium section of the store the man that helped us was very kind and explained every thing in great detail
So much selection! Quality animals and products. Great service. Love the fish! Jonas and Doris amazing and so knowledgeable. Check it out!!
I come here very oftenThey know me by my name. They are super friendly and always answer any questions I might have.
Very knowledgeable staff and almost always some kind of a deal
Nice place and friendly and professional staff.
Its stuffy and crowded. Older woman cashier (possibly owner) wasnt wearing a mask. 6foot rule ignored. Prices are reasonable.
Bought six fish from here, all died within 12 hours. Not a first time fish owner, and have experience keeping a tank healthy and going. Rude manager who seemed bothered by the fact we showed up at opening, definitely will never shop here again and would never recommend it to anyone.
Great place great service love this place
Love this place!!! Have great fish and supplies
The staff here is very helpful and very knowledgeable about their products they try to make your decision best for your pets and financial needs I drive out of my way just to come to this pet store because Im that impressed with them
What a nice store. Good selection of fish. Very helpful sales people.
Travelled pretty far just to see some good pet stores, and this place did not disappoint. Its got a good selection of mostly everything and some beautiful fish. You can definitely tell its family owned, its got a homey feel.
Ive been going here since I was a kid. Always friendly and helpful staff, good items in stock, unique animals coming in, etc!
I loved the assortment of different fishes, as well as small pets. Ive been prior to covid, they hosted adoptions/fostering of cats/dogs. Which i loved because I would go and search for the puurfect addition to my family.
I bought a fish tank from them a few days ago that I was planning on using for a frag tank. Unfortunately the return pump was defective and barely pushed any water. I decide to just return the tank and get a different one. One of the employees takes the pump out back to go test it.They return and explain to me that the pump is working fine (itβs not.) Iβm told by the employees that the amount of flow needed through your filtration is less then people realize. Which is not necessarily wrong, but the water coming out of this pump was not even enough to make a ripple on the surface of the water.I got a brief lesson on circulation and water chemistry from someone there. (I have a bachelors in Marine Biology.) Then got questioned on why I was returning it instead of replacing the pump myself. Eventually ended up getting a refund. The care level of the fish and corals is subpar compared to other local stores, coral frags are covered in hair algae, one of their tanks is covered in bryopsis, another is absolutely ransacked by Majano anemones. bleached and dying corals are way to common to see here and many fish have muted and dull color indicating bad water quality and diet. I do not recommend buying any livestock from their marine section until they can improve husbandry levels. They seem to have inexperienced staff so hopefully things will improve over time. They do have an ok selection of additives and misc equipment that has come in handy before. 2/5
One of the best places for fish supplies Ive found in the area. Definitely would recommend!
I prefer to support small businesses and family owned pet stores but unfortunately I wonβt be coming back to purchase any bugs. I use to make the drive from puyallup to Sierra just for the βplumpβ LARGE superworms. Iβve noticed everytime I got a batch there was 1 or two off no biggie. This last time I got some they were EXTREMELY small, and didnβt have the right amount in the container. I own 3 dragons itβs easier for me to buy a weeks worth of food for them at a time so I always add up the amount I need for them. Itβs so inconvenient that they are miscounting I shouldnβt be paying almost 5 dollars(including taxes of course) for 30 tiny worms π€¦π»ββοΈ Iβll be going back to my local Petsmart/petco until shipping is opened back up to buy in bulk.
Great we had a good experience everyone is very nice and helpful
LONG STORY BUT NEVER SHOP HERE FOR SALTWATER!!! I have been tricked... I am brand new into the saltwater fish tank hobby. So I didnβt know much about pests. Or how certain anatomies would react with the other and enemies. I specifically asked if what was already in my tank would match up with the creatures that I purchased from this establishment. I was sold in anatomy that was labeled as a BTA. I had already had a BTA in my tank. I had bought two of these miss labeled anemoneβs. They told me to continue looking around while they got the critters for me. When I came back one of the anemoneβs foot was damaged. I thought that it was fine and purchased the anemone anyway because I thought I could bring him back to health. (I did). As I was leaving I told them about some algae that I had growing in my tank that I would like controlled. They sold me five sea stars about the size of a dime with six legs. To my surprise I have now found out that they have been eating the bottom of one of my more expensive corals and have killed the entire thing. The anemone that was NOT A BTA cuddled up with my BTA I thought this was fine until I got home from a weekend away and they were ALL DEAD! The NON BTA and mine stung each other to death! NEVER BUYING FROM HERE AGAIN. My tank was NUKED!!! I almost threw the whole hobby away after this $500 loss!
Great service also people there are cool
This pet store is beyond way cool some of the stuff they have here is amazingly beautiful . I love going here to see the stuff they have here its kinda like a trip to the zoo or aquarium awesome . This place is very easy to find and theres plenty of parking places to park youre car at . Its a great place to visit with youre family and friends . #love
My preferred store for my aquarium/pet needs.Very knowledgeable, and great selection.
Love this place over the more well known pet stores.
They house rabbits and guinea pigs together. Rabbits spread disease to piggies and the one I saw was attacking the poor piggies over and over. I told an employee and they didnt care
I drive up from Tacoma to come here cause I think they take better care of their aquarium then the local shop
Large selection of fish and products got my live sand for my African cichlids and crushed coral. Expensive but good
Hole in the wall...facilities are run down but customer service makes up for it!
Great place to go for most all pets and associated items.
They have a large rabbit housed with a guinea pig. This presents multiple dangers to the guinea pig - injury, inadequate diet, and exposure to Bordatella (a bacteria that causes fatal pneumonia in guinea pigs)Attempts to educate staff were dismissed with zero concern. Any veterinarian worth their salt will tell you guinea pigs and rabbits can not share common living quarters.
Best place for Friendly help2nd time back with no hassle on my familys and myself mask medical exemptionThank youGod BlessCleveland Family
Place was really available; store tech had tons of knowledge on first tank fish set up; products were easily laid out and efficient; Plus, getting on their rewards program, Saved Over $20 or 10%, WooHoo!!!
Always a fun experience, friendly staff, great selection, and reasonable prices.
Knowledgeable people with Large selection. Bring patience if you want help. They are friendly and helpful, so always in demand.
I bought 2 female rats from them on May 31st. Both super sweet, and very smart. One of them had mites, so she has missing fur, but is absolutely adorable. I brought her home and she has respiratory problems and I have to take her to the vet. So thats fun and not at all what one should expect when buying a pet (I get animals have issues, but they shouldnt COME with issues). The second rat, was so far along in her respiratory infection that she was fine one day, and was oozing the red goo from her eyes and nose the next day, lethargic, etc. She died in my hands....within 3 days of bringing her home. And on top of that, I was told BY the pet store employee when I called, to take her into my bathroom and turn on the shower for humidity and it would help. She died when I did that, and upon looking it up, you dont do that because it drowns them. So thats a wonderful feeling knowing I probably caused her to die faster than she would have.No one should have to go through what I did. Feeling an animal die in your hands and its heartbeat slowly fade really messed with me. I called the store to see if I could get a replacement rat or get my money back, and I was told I need to bring the corpse in as proof.I understand wanting proof of some kind or something like that, but Im not sure I can bring myself to bring a corpse in. It just feels...wrong.Theres no way these rats didnt have issues before they were sold to me. To die within three days, and then my other one sneezing like theres no tomorrow is insane. I dont use woodchip bedding, only paper, and I live in a very clean apartment, so I know it isnt something I did. Ive seen other reviews that the rodents arent kept in the best of environments and Im beginning to think thats the cause. Keep in mind as well, these were not feeder rats. The one thats still alive is a dumbo rat, and I paid extra for her. Both of them were sold as pet rats. And no, Im not over exaggerating on anything in this review. I sat on writing it for the past two days, and upon further thinking, Im just going to bury the little lady that died. Im so upset with the store, I refuse to even go back to get my money back, much less another animal.Update: The other little lady died last night. Same thing. I was too late getting her to the ER to be put on oxygen. There was no replacing her either....she was amazing, and small and spunky, and I would give almost anything to have her back. I also called the store and spoke with Bruce, who informed me that they knowingly sold rats with respiratory disease because they got a bad batch of rats. Bruce also claimed that it isnt contagious, which if you know ANYTHING about respiratory disease in rats, yes, it most certainly is incredibly contagious. This is unacceptable, and wrong. Stardrop was 9 weeks old....the little girl got to live 2 months out of her lifespan because the store refused to get her treatment before selling her, and I didnt catch it fast enough. I also bought two more rats, who had a clean bill of health, and everything from another store. They are both infected now too and I have an appointment today to get them in and get them on antibiotics before they also die a slow death. This is what Stardrop looked like last night before dying.Dont buy your pets from this store.
Amazing place! Been coming here for years! Great staff, very knowledgeable.
Great staff, great selection. Quality fish and supplies.
Great little mom n pop pet/aquaria store. The staffs are helpful, polite and friendly.
I get most of my pet food here, I like the ppl who work here cause they are really helpful & thee kids like to look around
Awesome and very Friendly.. I will be back for sure...
