Deal was initiated online - trade in and purchase agreed upon for curbside pickup. Appt was at 630pm. Didnt leave until 830. Not happy. Had to resign paperwork because electronic signature didnt update. After being there for 1.5 hours they removed the plates and inspected the trade-in and disputed damaged that had previously been disclosed-in writing & pictures. This is after all paperwork was signed and the pink slip for the trade in had been signed over to CarMax and we had the keys to the car being purchased. Had to wait for management to decide if they were going to honor agreed upon value. Once done, they walked us to the car, in the dark parking lot, and sent us on our way. All other cars being purchased were brought into the lighted garage to be inspected inside & out for condition. And got a bow !!! My suggestion is a checklist for online deals - the car inspection of trade in and purchase should be done before papers are signed to ensure everyone is in agreement. And appointment times honored.
Enjoyed the experience. It was simple and not over the top. no one tried talking me into anything crazy. It was a little longer than expected on my transfer vehicle. It took closer to 3-4 weeks to be able to even see it.
Overall this was a great experience. They did not have what I was looking for on the lot so, they had the car I was looking for transferred in from out of state. Great price. They gave a very fair price for my trade. They even are taken care of some very minor paint damage from when it was brought over. Thank you Bob & Brian! Oh yeah, and the car is awesome!!!!

While Carmax is nice and shiny, with very nice people, it is anything but fast. Took over 2 hours to sell a 2007 Highlander. Be forewarned: do as much online as possible and be prepared to wait… and wait… still waiting … bummer.
Great selling experience, they offer well-over what you’d get offered at a dealership and their offer is competitive. Wait times are long for any part of the service and my sale took a collective 3+ hours waiting in their lobby so be prepared for a wait or go early on a weekday when less people are there. Overall I found all the staff to be wonderful, attentive, as efficient as they could be and very knowledgeable and transparent.
Ordered a car that was shipped down from WA. After it said it was delivered to my hometown carmax i waited for sevaral days without any correspondence from carmax. 4 days later i got a call saying title had an issue and the couldnt sell the car. Still havent received my 200 $ back either for shipping fees too. Never g8ve one star rwting but this is definitely deserved. WILL NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH CARMAX, what a joke!

Very easy and convenient. I found the car I wanted online. They shipped it to the Carmax in my town for a small fee. There was no haggling on price. The list price was a deal. The process in store was very straightforward and took about 1 1/2 hours, including the test drive. I found a small scratch on the car. They sent a guy to my home, at my convenience, to repair the scratch, no charge. This is our second purchase through Carmax and we’re very happy with the process and the product

There was extra charges added late in the process, something to do with the dealership being on Indian land. They didnt know this ahead of time!And its taking months to get the title, which is because of covid. But the State should hire more people.
My sales rep was outstanding and really went the extra mile. I haven’t been as impressed with the service team so far, the 30 day no hassle service warranty is hard to take advantage of when there are zero appointments available. I’m really hoping I’ll be accommodated since they aren’t able to get my car in quickly.

I went to Carmax to sell my car back and I had already received a written offer on it. When I went to the business office they told me it would take approximately an hour. It took almost 3 hours to get the paperwork in the check for the equity in the car. The amount of time that took was ridiculous.
It was a roller coaster but ended up good. Over happy with car.... process and or assistant need some work. Drove an hour to see vehicle and got there to find web and person on call were incorrect so no car to buy. No follow up after that no effort to make things right. I found a car and had it transfered in which took 10 days while car was 2 hours away. Car was great assistant not so much but we got it done.
Loved the experience!! I test drove my car for 24 hours and when I went in to purchase it, the entire process was only an hour and a half! So hassle-less and easy!
Honestly I am amazed at how poor our experience with Carmax was. We found a vehicle on Saturday that we liked, though we could not buy it due to it being on hold by another customer. We were told to check back as they potentially might not purchase it. To our amazement checked the site Monday morning it was available again. Placed the vehicle on hold at 630 in the morning, received a confirmation email stating that it was on hold. About 1230 got a call confirming our hold and appointment, then at the end of the call the lady tells me that the vehicle I had placed on hold was sold this morning. Overall I am very disappointed with the service. The response that I received was, well let us find you another vehicle. My thought is it will take my 60-70k to another dealership that will standby their word. I would NOT give these people your money or trust them to do as they say they will.
I am so thankful for business like Carmax. No games played. Just a very very fair price and a quick process whether you are buying or selling. We have done both for last five cars and love them. Carmax is the real deal.

The whole process was so fast and easy. I found the car I wanted on their website, and got pre approved. I spent approximately 1 hour at the store filling out paperwork and waiting for them to get my car ready. My car did have a few issues that should have already been addressed, but it was easy to set up an appointment to get it looked at. And they ended up fixing everything at no charge. Great experience. Came in to sell my kids Mazda; CarMax paid what they said they would on the online quote; entire process once I was there for my appointment was about 90 minutes or so. Very satisfied and much easier than dickering with Craigslist.
Purchasing a car can be a lengthy process, EXPECT it to be longer at CarMax. Credit ran multiple times, confusion on car transfer procedures. Personnel is not efficient in any manner. I took the liberty of using their online service to go through much of the process short of test driving the car, only to have credit run again and to repeat process. Their salesman got lost for 45 minutes trying to find car for an appointment I set via the telephone conversation with CarMax. Wasting your time seems to be a sport at the Reno location. The process resulted in multiple trips for me and my Co-buyer despite coordinating it with CarMax in advance.

I purchased a used car through Carmax. The salesman I dealt with was Paul at Carmax Reno. He was very nice and helpful throughout the entire process. I had the car shipped from a Carmax location in California. All I paid was the 200 dollar shipping charge and I was not locked into buying the car or anything by doing this. By paying the shipping charge, the car was held for me until I was able to see it. The car arrived a week early to the Reno dealership. Unfortunately due to short staffing and uncooperative technology the car took about a week until I could come see it and drive it. Once the car was available I made an appointment to purchase it. The purchasing process took about two hours and was not bad compared to other dealerships Ive been to. Overall I would highly recommend purchasing a car through Carmax.

Well, I bought one, a 2919 Jeep Cherokee for an unexpected very low price - only 11,000 miles -- ask for Rees, he helped us and is very friendly. The customer service could be better. I preordered a car from another city location the car is to be check out as soon as it reaches our location and should take 3-5 days and I’m on the 10th day and no one has reached out to me!! When I call CarMax no human answers and I will be on hold for 45 min mind or longer it’s very frustrating when you don’t wanna go else where because of points knocked of your credit!!! I’m leaving on a vacation and wanted to get this done before I leave so NO BROWNIES points for CarMax seriously 😐

This was my first time buying a car and I have to say it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Francis at the Reno, NV was so kind and understanding to our car buying experience. We had some hiccups and scares along the way, like when we called to check the status of the car and where it is in the transportation, the girl over the phone said that the car was on hold for someone else but it turns out the car was on hold for us so that was alittle scare…the transportation of the car from California to Reno, NV literally took 2 weeks and we were not notified that the car had arrived until we gave CarMax a call. It took another 3-4 days for them to get the title of the car, so had we known that it would take this long, then we would have just drove out to get the car…the other situation was when we had choose the Maxcare for 100,000 miles but thought about it for 1-2 days and wanted to switch it to 150,000 mile option and we were told over the phone that we can bring it in to redo the finance…we went in the next day and the two front desk people said no and turned us away saying that it’s not something we can do, it was only when they contacted the bigger manager and Francis that they agreed to switch the Maxcare for us. The whole process to switch out the Maxcare took almost 3 hrs…and we waited there with our baby girl. Regardless we are happy that we made the Maxcare change and we are glad to have picked the car we left with :) the free refill on gas was definitely super kind of Francis.
I had a pretty poor experience buying a car there. 2 days after purchase the check engine light went on and the car was in service for over 3 weeks. It was a complete burden dealing with the service department for those 3 weeks. They couldnt tell me when to expect my car and basically just gave me the run around until it was finished. I was very disappointed how I felt like I did something wrong and was getting punished cuz my car needed to be serviced. The only upside was that all costs were covered under warranty. It felt like any other car dealer to be honest

Fast experience on paper work but took 2 weeks to get into the car I wanted. That was the bad part also the mechanics did not give a time frame or atleast I didnt get a time frame. But the good thing was they are very friendly their. Now i have my car n Im hoping for the best car is good :)
Buyer beware. I bought a car in Feb 2021 and had it in the shop three times for oil leaks ( total of 3 weeks in the shop). Carmax covered the costs of these repairs since it falls within their limited warranty period. However one month later the entire engine needed to be replaced on it and Carmax claims to be no longer responsible for this mess. After 2 weeks in the shop we got the car back with a used engine installed and less than 1 week later it developed another oil leak. Its now back in the shop and we are now going on another 3 weeks without a car. In summary Ive had the car 6 months and its been in the shop for two of those. Carmax claims to have a in house service facility but clearly this car wasnt put through the paces to determine serviceability because this car should have never been resold on the open market. It seems Carmax has no issue selling complete lemons here in Reno. While Carmax did pick up the costs the warranty company didnt pay for ( i.e. maintenance items like belts, spark plugs etc for $900) this has been an absolute nightmare. I would suggest you look around at any other place than here.
CarMax was beyond a pleasant experience! Carol was our associate and she was FANTASTIC. No hassle. No rush. She went thru all the cars we were interested in, and got us exactly what we wanted. Guess where Im going to get another car??? I even went as far as to get my best friend from Los Angeles to come out here to get his car soon.

On July 16th, I put in for a transfer for a vehicle in Sacramento, CA I believe. The vehicle was then brought to the Reno location on July 19th when it was then supposed to go through the inspection process. On July 24th, I had gone to the Reno location and asked about the progress on the vehicle. I was informed that it was almost done with the inspection process and I should be hearing from someone with a couple days. On July 30th, I called again to find out the status on the vehicle and they didnt have an update on the vehicle. So I gave it a few more days and called again on the August 3rd, only to find out that it supposedly had a cracked windshield, and they had to wait for the replacement which would be the end of the following week. I called yet again on August 12th to find out again what the status was on the vehicle. The lady I spoke to informed me that the vehicle was ready, so I asked even after the store saying the windshield needed to be replaced. She then called the Reno store to find out the status in which the store said everything was good and I could come down to the store. Fast forward I get the vehicle, and it wasnt showing any signs of a problem. On August 15th, I went to run to the store to get a few things and guess what the check engine light came on, and wouldnt go over 25mph. This has literally been the worst buying experience ever for getting a vehicle.
My husband bought a car two weeks ago, we currently live in Truckee CA so we have to register the car in CA. Carmax forgot to give us the DMV paperwork, I went to DMV not knowing we were missing paperwork and wasted an hour and a half waiting to be told the dealer has to sign the application before I can pay the registration. We contacted our sales guy who never responded, we went in person to the business office and they told us they sent us the missing paperwork without confirming our mailing address yesterday without even telling us, we are now past our 15 day moving permit and also just found out after finally receiving the missing paperwork we also have to smog the car before we can register it and cannot get an appointment until 8/18. DMV requested a statement from carmax stating they forgot to give us the correct paperwork, we were suppose to get a call from the manager and have still not received a call, follow up or statement.Huge mistake not giving up the proper paperwork, miscommunication and no response from the sales guy after the deal closed, no redemption or fix if the problem from management, we now have to pay over $90 in late fees because carmax management will not give us the statement requested by DMV letting them know they made a mistake to release us of the these late charges.Just another dealer that does not care about you once the deal is closed. Hugely disappointed and we should not have to pay late fees for carmax’s negligence and poor Customer service.

I don’t think it’s fair to the team of employees working at the Reno Car Max or to the customers if the online reservations aren’t working properly but not communicated so we could plan accordingly (as the Reno team shared). We were not the only people with a 4pm reservation and still waiting at 6:42pm!We made the reservation days ago!My Tigard, Or Car Max is why we came back to Car Max and why it’s 3 and not 1. Originally my brother is the one who turned us onto Car Max and the ease of business. Not sure yet if we’ll do our next transaction at Car Max.
Fair Price for my vehicle in about an hour. Excellent experience. Appointments do not mean much though. First appointment I was told it would be an hour an half before they got to me, I left. Second visit I went in when they opened. Was not busy and they processed me immediately.

Follow up on my last review, had to wait on hold for a total of 7 hours and spend an additional hour and a half to fix the financing (the reason: inadequate training). The car I bought was making a weird sound 2 days after I bought the car and the earliest they can fix it is a month after I bought it. Luckily due to them messing up the financing, my thirty days was extended by 3 days or I would be stuck with a car that I can not get fix till the 30 days is up. I sent an email to the customer service and heard nothing back. So much for their love your car.

It was so easy. We got an estimate on our trade in, we found a car a ways away, we put in the transfer fee and it came within 2 weeks. I hate dealing with how much a trade in is worth and than fighting for a car price. This was all up front with no bartering and we were done with no stress. Rondel was very thorough.

Not a good experience I got pre approved online and an associate called me and we went over a few trucks around my budget. Found one I liked but I was afraid of missing out on something better so he said he could put it on hold for 7 days and I could see if something else came up and Wednesday make a decision. Well on Saturday the next day I decided I just wanted to buy the one i had on hold. So I messaged the guy and never heard back he was off so I called and was on hold for 30min finally got to talk to someone and the truck was never on hold and someone else bought it the day before. So I purchased one somewhere else.
Tried to purchase a car for my wife and was told I couldn’t because she mentioned she was gonna pay for it so not totally sure why that mattered to them but ended up buying a better car at Carvana so your loss crapmax
We found the car we wanted in California and in 4 days it was here in Reno. They were very response, thorough and made sure we were happy. We had some issues with having the correct keys for the car. It has taken a while to get them but they have provided everything that we needed. They were timely and just a pleasure to work with.

From very bad to okay. I left a review when frustrated with CarMax during the car transfer process. I kept looking for a local answer to my question, only to be given a regional customer service rep who knew nothing about why I could not get in to drive the car I had transferred to the Reno location.I ended up finding another vehicle on site when I went in trying to drive the car I ordered. Your vehicles are in typically good condition, and at reasonable prices. But the lack of real knowledge about local situations really screwed up my experience.

They Cleaned The Car. MY ONLY Complaint is the truck was dirty, that should be apart of the cleaning process. I had to clean it myself but other than that no issues here.

Wouldnt recommend carmax at all. These guys ran my credit 15+ times without my knowledge. Now a year later Im being denied credit due to the high number of credit inquiries. I later went to another dealership and felt they were very transparent. They informed me that its a tactic shady dealers use to prevent you from going elsewhere. At the second dealership my credit wasnt ran until i decided to purchase the truck. I ended up getting better rates than what carmax offered.Review edit 6/24/21: these guys are terrible! I called the 800 number provided, i sat on hold for 20 minutes and never got to talk to anyone. Someone from the local carmax called and was no help at all! Basically told me it was all my fault and that a carmax employee wouldnt run credit without permission which is exactly what they did. He told me only corporate could do anything and to call the 800 number. This place is nothing but a bunch of scammers, they will lie cheat and steal to get you to buy their cars. I wouldnt recommend these people to my worst enemy.
We looked at many car sites online trying to figure out exactly what we wanted in our next vehicle. We kept ending out on Carmax.com. This site is easy to use and lets you save cars to check out later for details and history. We finally found one we wanted but it was out of state. After discussion, we had it shipped. There was an issue with our payment, and the communication in between. A Carmax employee happened to come in to my work on his way to work. I saw his shirt and said, Ive got questions! He took down my info and info on the car and gave it to the appropriate person even though he was not on the clock. Above and beyond. She was in contact with me in lass than an hour. All things got straightened out. She sent messages as to when the car shipped, when it arrived, when it was ready for a test drive. Great service. For our test drive we had Derek Butler. Amazing. He made us comfortable, no pressure, and easy personality. This is a great company to work with in every way and we are extremely satisfied with our purchase. I highly recommend Carmax!!
We came to CarMax on a snowy day. Richard was just amazing! He took care of us didnt pressure us into anything was extremely understanding. He even checked to make sure I got home safely. The car I purchased had a dud battery and they changed it without any hesitation. Plus they didnt charge me money. They were extremely careful in regards to covid-19 and I couldnt imagine a better experience. I had gone to several dealerships prior to our CarMax experience but CarMax was BY FAR the best. They worked with me and had me driving the same day. Thank you CarMax and Richard for the amazing experience and the beautiful car.
I would take the time to do a proper one star review.... But all you others summed it up for me.All car sales companies are the same. Dont lie about it carmax. Money back guarantee my a#@. Second car bought a this location. The last car was a lemon and a complete eye-opener about CARMAX. Good luck people.
