WOW! That was my first impression when I walked in to this bookstore. I was not expecting Reno to have such a place; something you can only find in Toronto or New York. Lots of books, most of them new, with some used books. Parking spots are limited. This is a perfect spot for book lovers, to have dates, or just to hangout.
Nice local bookstore. I went in today with a friend to look for a couple of books and while they didnt have them, they were willing to order them. I feel like thats normal of a local bookstore though. Typically theyre going to be smaller and their inventory wont be ample as a chain store, but they are capable of getting you what you want. As you can see in the pictures, theyve got a lot of inventory here. However, if they dont have what you want and you have a bit of patience, supporting local businesses is usually a good thing. So keep that in mind while going to this place. That aside, they have nice, organized sections and different rooms. The look inside is pretty cool. They have a couple of places to sit inside as well.
For an independent bookstore, the collection is vast. I loved going through the fiction section and just picking out books that looked interesting. The used books section is also a gold mine. And I got some recs from a nice employee while checking out. Definitely recommend visiting!
What else do you do with a house but turn it into a bookstore? Impressive assortment of books. One room dedicated to books about Nevada, one to used books, one to childrens books, etc. Really good prices and great service.
Nice book store in the mid town downtown area of Reno. Located in an old white house, it has two rooms on the first floor and about five or six rooms on the second floor full of all different types of books. They sell new and used books. Along with magazines and a selection of music and records. I did notice they were missing the first book of a series while having the second and or third book available, which is a little frustrating. Overall, a nice place to shop around for books and also supporting a local business.
Was very excited to see this store but sadly won’t be supporting after realizing they discriminate and do not promote a diversity of viewpoints with their book selections.
Wow this is just a beautiful bookstore. Honestly, one of the most beautiful bookstores Ive ever seen. Amazing selection. Helpful staff. Really cool place!
Didnt have the book we were looking for. But the building is a beautiful place. Totally worth the stop.
I wasnt that impressed for the price of things. Two childrens books were $23. That seems like a lot to me. And when I was sitting because I am 8 months pregnant, someone proceeded to tell me to pull my mask up when I needed to gather a breath. Again being heavily pregnant and alone in a room. I wasnt feeling the vibes at all.
I love this beautiful house-like library. Every room has books and they are all properly categorized and alphabetized. The hardwood floors make you feel somewhat nostalgic and completely peaceful as you enter more than six rooms that have two stories that you are permitted to explore. Loved this place!
Amazingly, cool store in old villaLoved the ambience of the books in all the rooms of the old house, grand staircase, wonderful wood everywhere. Old world, treasure hunt feel turns buying a book into an experience
Many varieties of books to choose from. Nice place.
This place is awesome!! I really liked the vintage building. The staff is super knowledgeable and very friendly. I will be buying my books from this amazing place!! Give this place a try, you will be glad you did!!😀🥰
Amazing bookstore in an old house. Fabtastic staff.
My absolute favorite bookstore. Its in the old Levy mansion on Sierra St and it is so cute inside. I hope theyre around for a VERY long time!!!
Cute, vintage setting. Makes me want to sit in a corner with nice cup of tea and read away
This place is great. I love the atmosphere and the book I wanted was damaged, so they ordered me a new one! Cant beat service like that!
Upon entry I was asked to hand over my backpack. I found this insulting and did not like the insinuation of being called a thief. What if the employees went thorough my bag while it was behind the counter?I used to love this bookstore and shopped here each time I came to town. Never again. To assume everyone is a thief is not the way to run a business.
What a wonderful bookstore. Staff was very helpful and helped me find books for each of the kids. And theyre locally owned.Support this business!
Always a pleasure to go. If you havent been, youll know exactly what I mean just by stepping in through the front door.
Excellent bookstore. They have mostly new, with a small used selection. Also a small music section, including some vinyl. Great staff, and big, thoughtful selection of books. Well worth checking out. Please support these treasures, we dont have many left.
I love visiting here. It’s fun to just browse the selection. I like going here because they have more local authors.
This is a great bookstore. Fun to explore. And if they dont have the book, they can order it.
Always a wonderful experience at Sundance Books n Music.. great Vibe shopping for gifts too.As a local Author, it was the perfect place to be..Dropped off a few more of my Books for PhilipIts May and the Lilacs are Blooming-(One foot on Earth One in Heaven)Will be back for a cup of coffee and Holiday shopping..
I very much liked it if your in the area I would recommend but if you use a card they do charge a fee of a dollar, but still I round recommend stopping by.
Definitely a place to check out if your into books and history. Staff was a bit rude but other then that it was a nice experience.
Only place I get my Christmas, birthdays, and special occasions gifts!
Wonderful ambience, selection and service. Very knowledgeable staff
A classic full service local bookstore with great customer service in a beautiful historic building.
Very cute store in a historic building, didnt find anything but fun to look around
This bookstore is very well organized, if a little cramped in some places. The service is great as well. Overall, a great place if youre looking for an interesting new book. You might even find some music to listen to if you visit.
Amazing selection of books, music, and magazines. Theres something here for everyone to read.
Worst customer service ever! Will never shop there again
Fantastic independent book store in a wonderful historic building. Good selection of various reads
Very cool bookstore. Good selection, good curation.
Housed in a beautifully restored and warmly decorated Victorian mansion, Sundance Bookstore can be called a tourist destination. Its a delight for those with fond memories of bookstores that are not online and allow you to touch, feel, peruse, and ponder books before you decide on the two or three you absolutely must have in your collection. It feels like a library except its the way libraries used to be, with a hushed reverence for the books and no wall of computers with internet access. A true gem in Midtown Reno.
Love these local bookstores with best sellers and curated rooms of different genre. Support them and go buy a book!
Sundance is a survivor for a reason. They have used books as well as a fine selection of the current what’s worth reading. Also a fine Nevada section for those interested in local settings and authors. They host readings and other events and we need this store! Any book you need, if it’s not in stock they’ll order it in ASAP. They also have an awesome magazine selection and great cards as well as the ubiquitous cool socks that seem to be a staple for cool bookstores. So please, before you order from Amazon to save a buck or two, ask yourself if Jeff Bezos needs your $ as much as you need Reno’s last surviving independent bookstore to be here for you. Thank you. Sundance forever!
Preordered a book through them online to have shipped to me. They were great, responsive, and were able to update my address with no fuss. The website was easy to use, the order tracking kept me up to date, made it really easy to support a local bookstore.
One of my favorite bookstores!
An eclectic place ... first class book storeVery kitchy
This is a wonderful place to come check out and buy books. I love bringing my daughter to Barnes and Noble. She enjoys seeing the wide variety of books they offer. I love the little hidden gems I might bump into.
Cool place. First time there.
Awesome book store. Its in an old house, so it feels like youre at home perusing the shelves. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely stop here when Im back to Reno. Also a shout-out to Blind Dog Tavern for a custom cocktail and Reno Coffee Company for a pour-over.
Great place to browse.
Lovely ambience, good variety
Quaint and cozy bookstore with good prices.Stopped in recently with book nerd SO and we were surprised neither of us had ever been in before. The shop has a very cozy vibe and a huge selection of books, which we honestly were a bit stunned by given the buildings exterior, wall to wall with everything youd expect and some hidden gems in their selection. If youre wanting a book at fair prices, and way less hassle than running down to a certain unnamed chain store, this is a spot worth checking out. Even if its just to wander from room to room in the old house to see what they have, I dont think youll be disappointed in stopping by.
The most charming bookstore in Reno.
I am absolutely in love with this bookstore! Housed in a magnificent old mansion, all the rooms are different genres /categories - childrens, non-fiction, reference, mysteries.... there was also a wonderful assortment of cards, stationery, candles - lovely gift ideas! We had an amazing time exploring the upstairs and down, room by room. Left with a copy of Melinda Gates new book and a couple calendars... I cant wait to go back and explore some more!
Its a converted home so the vibe is super comforting. Lots of great options for gifts, especially regionally relevant cards/notebooks, and of course, amazing, friendly booksellers
Talk about a good variety and a surprise around every corner! Definitely stepped up this stores appearance and selection from when it was down on keystone, even then they had a great location filled with amazing read and very knowledgeable staff!
Great local bookstore. Every room has a different theme/genre. Staff picks are scattered throughout. Cozy couches and fun book-related decor make it feel welcoming. It may not be a full city block but it feels like Powells. Highly recommend.
What a cool place! Good selection and friendly staff. Really just a fun place to check out. Will definitely come here again!
This old, gorgeous building is the perfect setting for a bookstore. Take your time and enjoy every room. Delights around every corner! And you’re support local business.
In one of Reno s amazing old mansions, wonderful selections, imaginative layout. Loved it!
🙃
Beautiful quaint quiet bookstore to find all your desires for every age and want .. A large selection of magazines and calendars as well. Super friendly staff and if you arent able to find the special book it can be ordered easily for you! Music is lovely too
I love the selection, the atmosphere, and the aesthetic. I come here as much as I can. I usually come here to buy gifts for my loved ones and also just to sit and look for good reads.
This bookstore is absolutely my new fav!!!! Really nice selection of bestsellers, all genres AND used books too! There is also a little record section with tons of great albums! We spent over an hour perusing it all and then found the little gift shop area with fun little finds!!! It is also kept immaculately clean, well organized, and in the most beautiful historical house! This bookstore reminded me of my old hometown library & brought the sheer joy I used to feel as a kid wandering amongst all the books! What a find...Highly recommend & I cant wait to get back!
One of my friends had gone to this particular bookstore and told me if I was ever in town and had a chance to stop by and take a look at this place. I am an Avid Reader and Ive been to a lot of bookstores but this was by far one of the best bookstores that Ive ever been. Their selection is amazing and the people that work there are also great and very helpful. If youre ever in town and have some time and like to read trust me this is a place to go and visit.
Great bookstore. Was hoping for a larger used selection and the whilst of the place won me over. They make great use of this old Victorian house!
Very awesome bookstore .
Nice physical location. Nice layout. Quirky displays. A bit rough around the edges and the prices are a bit high when compared with Amazon and used bookstores.
So unique! An historical treasure in itself. Almost a meditative peace about it. Good book selection for its size
Sundance is my favorite bookstore! They have great gifts. The atmosphere is relaxing and its in an old house which is cool. If they dont have a book, theyll order it for you and it gets in fast.
This is a special bookstore. Built into an old mansion, with lots of rooms and nooks for books and furtive looks. I found books there I didnt even know I was looking for.
Have loved Sundance thru the years and locations!
Our local bookstore with knowledgeable staff gives us a world of culture with the best of the best books
Great old building. The character of a true bookstore.
Highly recommend. This is a wonderful bookstore that we have been in many times for books and music. The kids section is a well-chosen selection of books. We have been in several times and picked a book that we did not know, and it became our son’s favorite. I feel like you could not go wrong here! Sundance is also a great place to relax and read.
The old house is alive with the spirits of many past and present. A very amazing local bookstore! I recomend this place to anyone😁
Sundance Books is every bit as radiant and joyous as its name implies. Friendly service, a free and useful membership program, and a discriminating selection of books make this one of the best bookstores I have ever visited.
Explore every room
Im greeted by an employee with no smile. I smile anyways and I proceed to look around at the main entrance and Im then told backpacks are meant to be left at the front counter...meaning my leather purse is supposed to be left with him. Theres no smile on his face nor an apologetic tone, rather Im feeling very judged and therefore walk back outside. So much for supporting his local business.
Sometimes you find yourself in Midtown/Downtown Reno, completely stuffed for the third time before 3pm, and need something calming, entertaining, and revitalizing to do. Sundance sits perched like an angel upon the corner of California and Arlington ready to welcome you under her lofty wings and cure you of your food coma by way of a New York Times Best Seller or a quirky collection of photos of caricatured naked women that Basque shepherds carved onto central Nevada aspen trees in the early twentieth century. Dont worry, the store is kid-friendly.Ive enjoyed the used book room, the selection of quirky and stylish gifts, their visitors and speakers including the likes of David Sedaris and local fourth graders... Overall just a great local establishment with comfortable and welcoming ambiance and a great selection of books both local and international.
Love this bookstore! The help is amazing, books not in stock are easily ordered and the selection of books is great, including the childrens section. Their used books selection is good as well and the cards and other goodies in thekitchen make great gifts.
The only reason its missing a star is because I like a bargain, and Sundance does not. It is lovely inside and out. It offers books and cards and even some boutique gifts.
Awesome place and beautiful Mansion. The place is really worth the visit even if you dont like books.
Charming bookstore in an old converted mansion. Each room has its own literary genre. Well curated selection. Definitely worth a visit!
