We started picking up from Gambrel regularly during COVID and haven’t looked back! Ben is super knowledgeable, the selection is top notch, and the quality is unmatched across all types of products. We are unfortunately moving to the east coast and Gambrel is one of the places I will miss the most.

Ben’s selection is top shelf, and has especially great grass fed and heritage options. He makes his own sausage and they are the best you can find on the peninsula. He is friendly, no nonsense and super helpful with selecting and suggesting meat. I miss going into the shop and chatting with him but I’m looking forward to getting back to that after COVID. He’s especially nice to our kids. He is a true connoisseur and gourmet. I’m so grateful to have his shop in RWC.

Great local butcher that has been very accommodating of every weird request Ive presented. Thats the value of a small butcher, they can do things the large supermarkets or chains just cant.

Great butcher shop with fresh meat. Have been ordering steaks here for special occasions and they are are really great. Be ready to pay more than in supermarket, but it will be better.

Cant comment on their meats but I phoned twice to inquire about products / service during covid. The guy on the phone was rude to me, so I went somewhere else.

I agree 100% with other reviews. Rudeness prevails at this place. We wanted to purchase pasta off the shelf and it would have been so easy for the person to get it, make sale and be happy that people are supporting them. Never again. This is the second time I have had the rude person be snotty. Thats ok. There is wonderful store on Burlingame avenue that is GRATEFul for shoppers supporting themDel Oliva and a fabulous butcher shop in Millbrae Cape Meat. Gambrel-eat your heart out

One of my favourite places in Redwood City. The butchers are extremely friendly and always helpful. They will provide guidance on how to prepare something if you need it and you can even special order your favourite cuts (like flatiron in our case).We got some breakfast sausages the other day and had them this morning. They were stupendous.

Ordered online, there was an issue and the delivery never made it to our home. I called and explained this and that I had spoke with customer service with Mercato but was brushed off saying he was busy. I asked if I could come by to pick up order (which i would pay for again) but was told I dont do same day pickups and I have a lot of other ordersWe want to support small business but will not be using Gambrel in the future. You are working with people, work on your people skills.

The owner, whom I have interacted with on a occasion has been very good to me as a customer. Since covid-19, I have ordered through mercato and have been very pleased. I have always wanted my own local butcher, and now I have it. I order all meat here now and am very happy about it.

Meat is ok. But Ben and his ego take this place way down. Never met anyone so rude and into themselves as to hang up when questions are asked. Customer service is by far the worst,Not worth your time. His yelp reviews also paint a good picture.

Not only is this a fantastic place to buy and learn about well-sourced meats but the butcher is also a chef! The store is also stocked with enough ingredients to throw together an Italian-inspired dish with a bit of recommendation from the butcher chef.

The customer service here is awful. I tried to ask a question through the front door. The person behind the counter and 25 feet away shouted get back I want to support local businesses but I would not recommend this shop. I will continue to buy premium meats online.

Wanted to ask for some special meet and if its available.1st time I got brushed off, were busy, send me an email2nd time I called answer to my quesiton was: ..not at this time and hung up the phonereally gave benefit of the doubt during these uncertain times for my first experience, but second re-confirmed it seems to be standard customer service

Gambrel & Co. is a phenomenal Local Butcher with a great selection of high quality, fairly priced meat.Ben is always personable, willing to explain some of the more esoteric cuts (Bavette, anyone?), and to recommend the best way to prepare them. Even experienced meat chefs can learn a lot from the person who prepares it for them.I expected a butcher to be much more expensive than a grocery store, but the prices on high quality meat here are certainly competitive. In my experience, the meat is cheaper than Whole Foods or Bianchinis, and has been superior in every way.I bought myself a Wagyu NY Strip a couple months back, and it tasted like a completely different type of meat compared to the cuts Id been having from Costco, Safeway, and Whole Foods. I could not recommend this place more. This place changed my understanding of how great meat can be.

Great butcher. He has a lot of knowledge about international dishes and offers special cuts for that upon request. We buy our meet here since a couple of months and the quality was always great. The bread and Italian specialties is offers are also very good.

The meat here is amazing! This butcher knows his stuff after gaining experience from Spain and Italy he found this shop and decided to help us find fresh, clean, and healthy meats to eat. The beef and lamb are amazing! I have not yet tried the sausages, but this is a must for a BBQ at the house with friends.

I used to come to this place for a really good steak every once in awhile, but after receiving extremely rude service Ive had to stop. They have good steaks at high prices, but it really is a bummer that individuals who work there are so discourteous.

When I worked in Redwood City, Gambrel was by far my favorite butcher shop. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable. He not only sells the best cuts but also helps with recipe ideas because he was a former chef in high end French and Italian restaurants. A+++.

Great products and very knowledgeable staff. Meat quality is much better than what supermarkets offer, even high end chains.

The pork chops here are amazing-- unlike all other cuts you will enjoy the fat just as much as, if not more than, the medallion. Sausages are great as well and look for the crepinettes which are amazing!

Great butcher. This place is reasonably priced and never disappoints. Everyone who works there is friendly and knowledgeable. In addition to classic cuts of meat (e.g. ribeye, NY steak etc.) they have interesting prepared options, like rabbit or wild boar ragú, liver, and jamón serrano. I usually buy my meat at Whole Foods, but the meat at Gambrel really does seem to be higher quality. They also have a variety of cheeses and pastas! This little place is well worth the stop!
