Ive always loved this store. Its one of the last in the area. It was moved from Palo Alto just a block off University to this unlikely place where theres little pedestrian traffic. It survives off the clientele it built among the areas artsy set, which has stayed loyal. It is not only a painters paradise with all the necessary supplies, but a gift/stationery store as well, with whimsical offerings to please the most discriminating taste (great jigsaw puzzles). It also offers classes ... somehow in these trying times. Lets keep it around!

DO NOT trust the manager at the University store. Note - the custom framing was pricy and costs us $1800. So this is not $5 discount that we are talking about. We had to do custom framing and asked her about the sales coming up and she said there were none. Then this coming Saturday there is a sale and we found out about it accidently. She claimed she never helped us (then backtracked) and said it was COVID and therefore now we are doing the sale, etc. I like the store and have used them in the past but after this experience NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

This is a wonderful arts and crafts/hobby place with a small shop culture. Its also a great spot for picking up small gifts.

One of the only good art stores in the South Bay! Its pretty well-stocked, and the employees seem knowledgeable and helpful. Lots of painting supplies and canvas options, quite a bit of ink, drawing materials, and a good selection of paper/sketchbooks. I am usually able to get what Im looking for here.

Fantastic art supply store with a frame shop onsite. Friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive staff is perhaps the best reason for coming here. Also, University Art has a wider assortment of art supplies than I find in the chain art stores. They also have art classes, reasonable prices, generous free membership program, and plenty free parking.

This is a review of the framing department, which is run by a crew of incredibly meticulous, helpful professionals. They all seem to be perfectionists when it comes to framing and the results for me have always been spectacular. Enormous selection of framing and matting options, and theyre quick to share their opinions about color and design. The one downside is that its *very* pricey and in high demand, so the wait times can be exceptionally long. I take my very special items here to be framed but I have other favorites for routine framing jobs.

Art supplies are always expensive, so I cant really complain about the prices unless I complain about all art supply prices. They have a nice selection, though, and helped me find what I was looking for. Also advice leading to a less expensive tool for a need I had.

Dear God... This place is glorious. I have spent far too long wandering betwixt their shelves, deciding upon the perfect shade of watercolor. I now have several gorgeous brushes from them and have improved my watercolor painting by upgrading to the Daniel Smith paints along side their other professional grades they offer. They have had several sales going each time I have been there and a super helpful sales team to nudge me in the right direction when I dont know quite what I need.They also have fun gifts and enough extras to keep me entertained for hours.So, just go already!

Family-owned Artist store in the Bay since I was a child. It was sad to see it leave dtpa after so many years. Places like this should have gov funding as it is one of the last art supply stores around

Helpful and extensive selection.

This is a great arts store.As a relatively novice artist, this place seems to tailor well to a more experienced artist crowd. There are some more advanced paints and paint-related items available. As a result, this place doesnt carry much basic stuff in huge quantities, as maybe a bigger crafts store like Michaels would. But my friends and I found some amazing oil resin paints here and got excellent help from the staff.They also have a studio in the back that seems to have classes.Overall a great store, with the only knock being the slight priciness and more advanced products.

There arent many good art stores left. This one is still good, even without competition. (It could use a little improvement in keeping some things in stock.)The selection is primarily top tier art supplies, unlike some other places best left unmentioned.

One of the few remaining art stores around. You can shop here or an Aaron Brothers and there are few others around so its good to have a place that still sells art equipment. They have everything from watercolors to oil painting, framing, Etc

Excellent selection of tools and supplies in a great space. Worth the trip up from San Jose if you need more than a Drawing Pad.

WOWW!!! I could spend alll day in here! I came to price having some work framed. The service was great! Very friendly and welcoming! There is such a mix of eclectic art and products. From canvas, oils, paints and brushes to postcards, bags and gifts. What a huge selection and I decided to commit to buying some Christmas gifts here. I will definitely be back.

I like this store. Like the old Palo Alto store this is still a good place to pick up nice little gifts and interesting cards. The staff is very helpful and nice. Most important, the store stocks a nice array of real art supplies of good quality.

This is one of my top art supply stores on the peninsula. I do airbrushing and they carry most of the main brands. Its easy to find and a short drive from the 101.

Steve is so helpful and always willing to go above and beyond for me and I can tell he is passionate about art and helping people, he has a wealth of knowledge. I can see him working at an art gallery somewhere in Los Gatos.

They have an incredibly wide selection of at supplies. Their calligraphy section had some nice Japanese brushes.

Great store for art supplies, framing, and interesting gifts. They have a range of paints, ink, markers, pencils, etc. so you can find something whatever your budget. Kids art supplies as well.

For thirty years and two different locations, our go-to place for art supplies, and especially for framing. The consultants have an arsenal of frames and custom options, expertise, and guidance. Great colaboration. My advice is to bring your Good Doggie certificate or your Charlie Russell, and turn yourself in. Superior quality. Moderately expensive but worth it. Heed the advice on UV glass.

Employees are very friendly and knowledgeable, I usually try to come here to buy my painting supplies instead of ordering online because i find new things and always learn something from talking to the employees

Ever since they moved to their new location, it seems their staff is not as friendly. the older gal at the register was so unfriendly, dry and shy. im super shy but friendly most the time in all the customer interfacing jobs ive held. this store is great tho and i shouldnt let one pill diminish that fact.

(Please note that when I wrote my review it was for their original location in Palo alto; I can not personally speak to the assortment or staff at the new redwood city location)Really nice selection of water colors & acrylic paints. However their selection of copic markers is very limited and I dont like that they are behind the counter. Since palo alto is a graphic design town I would thing that they would have a better selection of markers.

What happened to University Art? The last three times I’ve been they’ve been totally depleted of supplies - shelves are practically bare, for instance all types of paint brushes and papers and pads. It’s as if they’re going out of business. This used to be my “go to”art store but now I drive to California Art Supply in San Mateo. It’s really sad that we’ve lost all the art stores in the Palo Alto, Menlo, Redwood City area. Also the staff is not helpful, and in fact, rude, which was never the case in the past. When I asked a gentleman putting some stock away to check if they’d received a certain type of brush I was brusquely told he wouldn’t check until he was finished with what he was working on. Needless to say, I walked out.

Eveyone is very helpful and clearly passionate about their jobs! 10/10
