Overall, he was attentive, easy to get a hold of, pleasantly communicative, and very considerate of our timeline, budget, and needs.(1) Purchased a cello with case and bow – all work great, the cello plays beautifully(2) He repaired the neck and scroll of one of our cellos. A challenging fix but it looks in tip-top shape now, and were extremely grateful for his skills in repairing it.

Im so thankful to have found Fegley Instruments. I have a violin that belonged to my great-grandfather. I was nervous it would not be able to be repaired/hold pitch. Joe took great care of it, and now its ready for my daughter to learn on. Very excited for it to pass on to the next generation.

I bought my cello from James Fegley 20 years ago - it is very nice cello - very easy to play with a warm sound - I have quite an attachment to her and was saddened to hear when Fegley had passed. I had stopped playing the cello for a looong time - I have since picked her back up - She needed a tune up! She was buzzing and not staying in tune, I was a bit apprehensive to bring her to Joe. I thought to myself, can Joe make her sing again? I dropped her off, picked her up a week later and by God I have the most AMAZING sounding cello! She could be out of tune and still sound beautiful!Joe it fills me with relief to know that you have taken over Fegley’s shop and do amazing work.Sherri Ely Sevick

Joseph helped us immediately with an emergency violin repair. We had little time, he said bring it over now, and he did the repair while I waited in the car because of Covid. We couldnt have asked for anything better.

I was able to secure a private appointment in Mr. McDevitts shop at my convenience. Since this was our first major instrument purchase (rather than rental), I was unsure what to expect. Mr. McDevitt made the entire process very comfortable, and answered all the questions we had. Mr. McDevitt was very warm and personable, and made my young violinist (age 12) feel very at ease, having had a few other experiences with luthiers that didnt as readily engage with my student performer. We were able to find an instrument that she liked without any extreme pressure. Would definitely recommend calling for an appointment to check it out.

I enjoyed working with Joe to purchase a new cello. He is very knowledgeable about string instruments and was able to work with me to get me set up with my cello. He conducts his business in a traditional format that has been lost in many industries; customers are referred and treated to one-on-one expert service during a private appointment. I would recommend Fegley to anyone in need of a repair, or to those who are interested in purchasing a beautiful instrument.

Joe has been a pleasure to work with. We purchased a cello from him and are very pleased with it as well as the price we paid. He gives excellent service whenever we need service or a bow rehair We are now looking into buying a violin from him for our daughter who is a music major. He has shown us options and continues to look for options that our daughter will love but also fits her budget.

BEST value and customer service in the area from a musician FOR musicians. Joe is both knowledgeable and helpful. He assisted my 14 year old in purchasing her first violin and also worked out a rental for a REAL viola for my 10Year old rather than the object the school was providing. Highly recommended!

Fegleys Violin Shop has been servicing my violin for over 25 years. Impeccable workmanship and friendly convenient service have been hallmarks of their business. Joe and Margie have both repaired my instrument when it was damaged from another violin shop. I am always grateful for the care they take in maintaining the best sound from my violin and bow. BL

Fegleys is an EXCELLENT repair shop. I have taken my husbands violin for repairs at this shop for many years now. The customer service is excellent. It is nice to be able to drop it off at the shop and know that it will be repaired and serviced in a timely manner. The repairs are always done exactly as described. We have never been surprised by our bills. They provide you with an estimate and it is always right around the target estimate. They are also extremely flexible with appointment times. I bought a violin, 2 bows and a case from Fegleys. Joe McDevitt has carefully and timely repaired and refurbished my fine violin and both bows. He has explained each step to me and made recommendations for my violins care as I use it frequently. I had a tour of his studio and got a history of several instruments he has made. Two of my friends have bought violins Joe has made and each one sounds incredible.

Fegleys has a wide selection of violins, violas, cellos, bows, and equipment, and the deep knowledge to help their customers.Luthier Joe McDevitt is truly an artist and a joy to work with. My daughter plays on a violin he built: its a beautiful instrument and the sound is warm and wonderful. She feels a unique connection to the instrument. This is a great little business you can feel very good about patronizing and expect to get great prices and great service.

Ive been a loyal client of Fegleys Violin Shop for 25 years. The prices are quite reasonable (downright cheap by Main Line standards) and the workman excellent. I bought my last violin from Fegleys and have been informed by several different experts that it was a real bargain for a fine early 20th century instrument by a famous maker. And repairs, rehairings, adjustments, etc. are always done in a timely manner. I would recommend them without hesitation.
