A nice, homey restaurant. Decent prices, good food and service. Always like going there.(Please be kind and patient as they are experiencing the same worker shortage as so many other establishments in the continuing COVID 19 battle).
The grits were the nastiest Ive ever attempted to eat. I sent them back seconds after they hit the table. My friends steak was 85 % fat/gristle making it next to impossible to eat. I am a superior grit maker and I suggested they remove this item from their menu until their staff learns how to prepare them properly. The grits you see in this picture were made me. I went to this restaurant with my mom while we were visiting Reading. I thought it would be a nice little place to eat. The food was not good. I didnt like it and neither did my mom. Even the coffee wasnt good. We had two waitresses because ones shift ended. We were glad she left. We could tell she didnt want to be there! She was not very nice. The second waitress was nice. That made it a little better.

Friendly obliging waitresses cant do enough for you! They need more help! But they were really working hard! And the meal was delicious well-presented! It was so good A friend of mine and myself we came back the next day!
I usually eat here once a week but I had the worst experience yesterday. Nothing myself or my daughter ordered was the way we ordered it. The waitress offered us free dessert as long as it wasnt pumpkin flavored, because they are the only fresh desserts in the restaurant. I was insulted. We ordered 2 delmonico steaks, both medium. Both were so overcooked that they tasted like beef jerky and we waited over 45 minutes to be served. Then the waitress brought out pieces of our meal that werent good either and in the end we left the restaurant irritated and hungry after waiting over an hour after working all day.
The American Diner was great to say the least. The wonderful owner and her staff were so polite to my family and I. The price was not bad at all, they are on top of service. I will be going back there.
I definitely confused this place with somewhere else previously.the food was great here coffee was really good and my waitress was very nice and efficient.i will go again sometime for syre

Honestly, we walked in...it was a ghost town. We were the only customers the entire time we sat there. Our waitress was very nice, the diner was definitely clean, but my fiance and I were not to satisfied with our meals. He had the open face meatloaf with mashed potatoes....it was way to smothered in a loose flavorless gravy, he said not very appetizing at all, and he had the spinach egg drop soup(which he said it was ok)...I had the combo meal of New York steak and crab cake, with french fries on the side....well, they say u shouldnt order steak from a diner and yeap I totally agree, the steak looked watery and microwaved with a whole bunch of peppered seasoning on top of it. the crab cake I actually liked as well as the french fries. The soup I had was chicken and shells...and it pretty much something out of a can...so we were both supposed to get a salad but that never appeared and he wasnt offered a vegetable for his meal, (the mashed potatoes came with it.) So his entree was $9.95, my combo entree was $16.95, then 2 Pepsis $6.00...so we had asked for the check and our waitress came over and looked at our plates and seen they both were totally filled with the food and asked if we would like some boxes so we could take it home with us and we politely declined and said no thank you and I think she definitely understood why we did not want to bring it with us. Lol but regardless that we did not like the food we did give our waitress a very good tip because she was a very nice and its obvious that this diner is not getting much business there so Im sure every dollar helps. So, if I were ever to go there again I definitely wouldnt get an entree like the ones my fiance and I had, Id probably do something like breakfast or Burger and fries instead.
Diner we ran into cause in the area. What a pleasant surprise for my hubby. Huge menu which he hates, but food was absolutely cooked perfectly. If we lived closer Id indulge more. They had absolutely perfect Liver and Onions, cook was clearly a pro! Waitress was super friendly and accommodating as my hubby takes forever to order lol.Soup was great as well!!! Next time Im in the area will stop!

One of my hometown favorites. Clean and sparkly, though the name changed it will always be West Reading Diner to us. Great breakfast anytime in addition to a variety of menus items sure to please even the most finicky eater. Desserts are always temptingly delicious and service is always personable and friendly. Covid restrictions in place, but they do it with flair: Movie theater style felt ropes donned across every other booth to maintain social distancing.
Writing this as I eat my breakfast at the diner. I come here frequently because it’s local and the staff makes me feel beyond welcomed and at home. Jeanie is usually my server and that woman is totally phenomenal! Amazing service and the sweetest personality. I’ve worked in the industry for 8 years and have honestly never come across such a kind hearted restaurant staff. thanks for everything American Diner staff! 😊
Kind of disappointed with what I ordered, didnt really like the service. My sister said her tuna fish club sandwich and fries was good so I might be back for that but not for an omelette breakfast with homefries mixed into it. This diner does provide a nice variety in cakes, pies and other desserts that would go well with their coffee.

Such bad service... diner didnt have many people in it. Our party of three entered and were told you can have a seat over there, but you wont be served for 10 minutes. We waited. 15 minutes later, a party of 2 came in and were escorted to their seats at a table next to us, and served instantly. We waited, but the server still didnt bring us menus or acknowledge we were there, so we left. Again, unacknowledged. My guest was there for her birthday... at least we found somewhere much nicer after leaving this awful place.

It was not a good experience at all. It was fine when we came in everything seemed pleasant but as soon as it was time to order it was clear that the wait staff was emotionally clocked out. When my friend went to order a milkshake the waiter groaned at us, and then made a joke about how they could have told us the milkshake machine was broken but didnt. When we ordered our food we were rushed. When we got our food it was fine but not at all what any of us expected. None of our food was even hot. My friend ordered a steak that was small and flimsy. We werent charged for the steak which we appreciated, but it still was disappointing. At one point my friend asked for a straw the waitress did not respond and looked as though she was going to blow him off, then at the last second she appeared with a straw which she dropped on the floor and then gave to my friend. I understand there was only two waitresses but that was an awful experience. I will not be returning to this location any time soon.

The food was good, pretty much standard for a diner. All fresh and tasty, and not expensive at all. The waitresses were wonderful. The sweetest, most wholesome people i could have met. 11/10 would recommend solely for the staff.

The food was perfect it look beautiful when it came out on a plate everything was tasty I ate every bite I was very hungry and I ordered a lot of food the waitress was amazing the service is great I really cant say anything bad about the American Diner. Ive been going there for a long time and I really enjoy it its convenient and yummy. I only do 4 Stars Max cuz there is always room for improvement.
Sat there for 45+ minutes after a six hour long car drive for drinks that never came while our waitress kept going outside for a smoke. The place used to have fast service, but wont be coming back again.

The liver and onions was terrible! The liver had a metal taste and was tough. I ask for bacon and instead of strips I received ground bacon mixed in the gravy. The presentation was that of bacon that looked like it was eaten and spit in the gravy.The green beans were pulled from a can and placed in a bowl, and served. No season and cold.

I have no complains so far, Ive been going there for many years then the pandemic happened so I stop going, there are many of the formers waiters still there and is a very nice and respecting atmosphere I will gladly recommended.

Smelled like bleach to the point it burned our nose and eyes. Sat at the table that was super sticky, I look over and theres a cockroach leg stuck to the table!!!!! We promptly got up and left. Wont be returning.

4 stars because... its a diner. Really enjoyed the breakfast here, though and the wait staff was really kind. Added French toast it was exactly what youd want texas toast style with heaps of butter...too much butter but it did come on the side. I would eat here again for sure.

I will post pictures soon a but the sweetest thing happened while I was here the manager on site is probably the sweetest person Ive ever met or for anything and go for the desserts theyre actually amazing and as for the diner food it is your typical American diner food but cooked with love

Completely ignored my son and myself. Due to COVID protocols, they were at half capacity, but still managed to greet two tables and even serve drinks to one table before we received menus. Seems the reopen was poorly planned and is definitely being mismanaged. Won’t be returning or recommending.

Waitress over filled my drink, people coming and fixing papers where I was sitting. Order a steak and it tasted like it was boiled first. And it was well done and I ordered it medium rare. Definitely wouldn’t recommend coming here.🤮

My sister dinner was not what she ordered, she order the veil but got beef, my nieces got the Baltimore special and it was greasy not enough eggs and no toast, my BLT the bread was toasted too hard!
Honestly the worst diner food I’ve had. I went here with 4 other girls and we all left still hungry and dissatisfied. I do not think any of us finished our plates. The servers were very nice and made our stay more enjoyable but I will never be back.
