Wonderful service and high quality weapons. Only place I’ll be buying weapons from in the future.
Staff always acts like its a hassle to have you in the store. I used to go here, but now i just order online. Besides, the help i get online is usually miles better than the staff.Which is sad, because they have a beautiful store and location. Its like a pretty girl with a poor personality. And Im not the type of guy who would keep her around for her looks. Personality goes further with me.Just a shame.
Gun selection: greatStaff: I feel like most of them dislike working, and like customers even less. I’ve had ok luck with a couple of them, but how dare you bug most of them for a question or help. A couple times this summer I’ve walked in with money to burn in my pocket but couldn’t get anybody to treat me with a smile even - so bought guns elsewhere.
Bought a 1899 Springfield Krag Carbine from these guys. Mark and his staff were helpful and soothed my nerves about the authenticity of the rifle. I live in Texas so the staff carefully packed the rifle and sent it my FFL. Rifle is excellent and in better than described shape! I will be doing business with First Stop as often as I can!!
The staff has some sort of superiority complex. When I was in the store I was treated like I was a hassle.
Very nice people prices were a little high but that is to be expected.
First Stop is a first rate shop. I purchased a pair of binoculars and they shipped them to me very quickly and the binoculars were exactly as described. Thanks!
I did several FFL transfers through them and was leaning toward making them my main go to stop for firearms, ammo and such. However, my experiences were not good. They did not seem very friendly to me. Almost to the point that it was like I was bothering them or not worth their time. I spend a significant amount of money on my favorite hobby. They lost a significant part to one transfer they did and refused to take a second look in the back. Later found in the trash after the seller called and raised hell. Their FFL transfer fee at $35 plus tax is one of the highest in town. I gave them a few chances since they are very close by. Now I drive to a place a little farther, where I am treated as a valued customer.
I recently encountered an unfortunate situation at First Stop Gun. Their was no one really at fault when a forearm for my shotgun was misplaced while it was at the store. First Stop tried to find a replacement for the collector shotgun. After a month, and no luck finding a forearm, Mark, the owner, paid me top dollar for the shotgun as compared to GunBroker pricing. I really appreciate the staffs professional assistance during the situation and the owners cooperative and reasonable interactions while this potentially stressful situation played out. thank you guys!
Staff seem to be very unfriendly and unhelpful. It’s like spending hundreds of dollars there is an inconvenience to them that they have to talk with you.
We went in simply looking for some ammo, but this place has it all. Fantastic selection, reasonable prices, but most importantly - friendly and no-nonsense staff.
Great place great people but no ammo but thats the case everywhere
Bought a firearm online through GunsAmerica from them an Uberti 1873 Cattleman 357 Mag 7 1/2 COULDNT BE HAPPIER =) there customer service is spot on and they where very helpfull, which was great since i have not done a online purchases before they even told me how to find a FFL near me. Thankyou First Stop Guns from CA. =)
Wish I could give 0 stars. Walked in with the full intention of purchasing a Glock, both myself and my husband were totally ignored by staff that were literally leaning and chatting. Spent 10 min looking, flagged someone down (Monty) asked him twice how this model compared to a model we already own. He totally ignored our question, to the point of rudeness. We went down the street and were treated much better by presidential pawn and gun. We will never go back.
Unless you’re a good ole boy who looks like they just came off the ranch, you will be totally ignored. I feel as if I inconvenience the staff each time I walk in the store. I am greeted with stares and standoffish behavior from staff when entering the store. Noted, I try and be very respectful when I enter. The store does have a good selection of firearms, which is the only thing that draws me back.
Awesome. Shop. They messaged me back on a holiday to let me know they had a certain caliber in stock. Great service. Fair pricing.
Wont be going back. I called ahead to make sure someone would be available to mount and bore sight a scope for me. When I arrived I was treated like a nuisance. I ended up buying over $70 of ammo while I was waiting for the scope to be mounted. When I got home I realized the magnification adjustment of the scope was pinned against the scope mount & the turrets were never adjusted & set to zero for the bore sighting. I shouldve just gone to Cabelas first.
Great prices, wide selection, and good staff.I have a older shotgun for duck and pheasant thats never going to see steel shot. They actually had bismuth shot $2 cheaper then online.
Lots of stuff just not very friendly
Poor Customer service, the staff totally ignores you until you ask them a question and when you do it feels as if your bothering them.
Poor communication, (no response) from owner that I dealt with. Indicated that he would include set of rings with gun purchase. Called three times and was informed that messages get mis placed by sales people. Last person CONFIRMED he would deliver message. No service After sale!
Had this place really highly recommended to me. The first time I went in and as a new (handgun anyways) buyer found it to be a friendly and helpful place. So much so I decided to buy my wife a gun for her birthday the next week, completely different experience, even after an extended time we were not offered help, when I asked for help it seemed like we were inconvincing Monte, I tried asking questions and he alternated between ignoring them outright and partially answering them. Needless to say we went across the street and bought the same gun from someone else. I told the manager and didnt get much of a response other than it seemed to happen ofte (maybe they dont mind?) Unless you are a good old boy dont expect any customer service. Try Cabellas.
I just purchased a used gun and it was exactly as it was described. Shipping was fast, service was great and the price was reasonable. I will not hesitate to do business with First Stop Gun again. Ill also tell my friends about them. Thanks.
Used to frequent this store a lot and received decent service. However at one point in time all of that changed for some reason still unbeknownst to me considering I have never been rude nor dispolite and am a rather respectful individual. Since then I have received rude customer service from most of the staff (with a couple notable exceptions) and will generally be glared at and given a rather standoffish and demeaning attitude when speaking to most of the staff. I have since taken my business to Cabelas where I have always received excellent, friendly and helpful customer service.
These guys are the best. They have incredible prices on firearms and they are very competent in the realm of everything guns.
First Stop is a great firearm shop. Mike and Mark are great, all the guys there are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They dont pressure you into purchase. Very fair trade in prices and the prices on the inventory are always fair to fantastic. Love these guys!
Excellent inventory. Prices on used items and reloading supplies are often quite good. New items and ammo are sometimes much higher than elsewhere.
I’ve been searching for a Winchester ‘Classic’ for some time; non-stop research. First Stop Guns in Rapid City, South Dakota has a long lineage of firearms history. Mark Blote, the proprietor is very knowledgeable as to the entire line of firearms, including the Henry rifles. Not knowing of these facts, I certainly became most familiar with Mark’s expertise in a short amount of time. Mark provided the utmost assistance in providing me a Winchester ‘Classic’ at a most reasonable price (New in the box with hang tags, and associated paperwork). The age of the bolt rifle was a 1994 model (unfired); “Almost unheard of”. There are many who purport to state the condition of a firearm as to be ‘new’ or ‘unfired’ but are merely trying use the terminology to entrap others. In this respect, I was somewhat hesitant to place an order for a firearm in the aforesaid condition, which is almost non-existent. I decided to take a shot (No pun intended) and ordered through First Stop Guns. The initial conversation with Mark was very professional, as we discussed the Winchester. There were no hidden facets as he specified everything clearly. At the outset, I believed Mark based upon his character, for character defines a person. Upon receiving the firearm (Bolt Action Rifle), I was totally taken as to the condition upon opening the box. Inspected the bore, the bolt, checked the three position safety, the wood (Straight grained walnut), checked the weight and length, breech and muzzle. In reality, I was trying to find a fault which I could not. Absolute pristine, like it was just purchased. Surely, this has to be a find which rarely comes along in one’s lifetime. This business consists of people knowledgeable with the underpinnings of firearms which is not for the faint. All emails and phone messages were answered in a very timely fashion, and Mark was very efficient in assisting me. There certainly are not many, if any who deal in iron that shall bring this type of management to the forefront. Again, this business consists of people who are not the mainstream white collar clientele, but they provide their services to such. To meet someone with Mark’s stature is surely refreshing, knowing the business as I. We would highly recommend First Stop Guns to everyone searching for a fine, quality firearm or collectible, along with the entire gamut of firearms. I’m truly glad that I found a person that understands the true qualities of fine firearms. Thank you very much Mark and we hope the best for First Stop Guns, now and in the future.* Have a great time in Uruguay and most importantly, keep the faith.
Great people willing to help novice to expert. Good prices, fair business practices and locally owned. All around great place for a shooting enthusiast. The only downside is that they dont give out free ammunition samples.
I came here to sell a gun and the gentleman who helped me was friendly and patient. Though I didnt get as much as I wanted out of it, I feel like he genuinely paid as much as he could without breaking his own bank. I will definitely be back to purchase guns in the future!
Very large selection of guns and ammo! The outstanding customer service I had while visiting here makes me want to come back, its a shame Im visiting very far from home. The salesman Monte spoke with me for quite a bit and answered a bunch of my questions, I highly reccomend this place for any firearms/accessories.
Good conversations with seller, fast shipping, and the best price (by $100) on a new Ed Brown KC-9.
Staff is super friendly and great selection of guns and accessories. I will definitely be coming to them from now on
I bought a couple guns there today. Paid cash. Counted out the money and gave it to them. They recounted and found 2 bills stuck together. Gave me back a 100 bucks. That is really honest people that do that. I am impressed. When I am looking for another gun they will be where I go.
No pressure sales staff. The store has maybe 500 (maybe more) firearms, and many optics to handle and examine before making a purchase. Checkout was quick and easy at the counter. I come back there often to see what they have. Some rare guns are available...sometimes.
Awsome place with great service!
I have dealt with two different scopes that first stop has mounted. Both were miles away from level and my torque wrench was breaking at over 30 in lbs! The scope was specd for 15-20. No wonder why both scopes werent dialing correctly. One was a high end scope on an 1800 dollar rifle my friend just bought from them. When you dump that kind of money, you deserve better service. They are fair on trade and Ive bought 3 hard to find rifles from them for very decent prices.
Did not get good service. Went in asking about trying to source a part and possible gunsmithing. All i got basically was a shoulder shrug and when i asked if they knew about anywhere that could help me find what im looking for i got the same thing. They obviously dont want me business. Wont be gun shopping with them anymore
On line purchase and experience was great. Very helpful man who processed the sale and arranged shipping. Fast and courteous, helpful too!Thank you
Interested in buying a gun, reloading equipment, or just have some questions about an antique you might think is worth something, First Stop is there to help. Im an avid cartridge reloader and they have everything that I need, all at great prices. Huge selection on everything from hunting to personal defense.
Competitively priced guns and ammo. They will price match cabelas. The staff are knowledgeable and curtious. Its nice to look around and browse their selection. Its one of the few stores I enjoy visiting
Solid family run business. Always fair, honest and priced right. Never had a bad deal with the Blote boys in 30 years of dealing with them. Great guys!
Bought a few guns here over the years. Great bunch of guys. Great prices. Spend your money locally!
Caveat emptor (buyer beware) if youre contemplating an online purchase. Pictures typically make the item look better than it does. And if youre unsatisfied with the condition upon arrival, dont expect the owner (Mark) or his shipping dept. (if they send you an item that is inadequately packaged and is damaged as a result) to make it right. Theyll say theyre sorry, but actions speak louder than words. When I expressed such complaints (a Browning Superposed damaged due to poor packaging, and a vintage Colt 1911 that showed significant wear and defects including corrosion throughout the stippled areas despite being advertised as used, minor wear), Mark merely replied lets not do business again. Unprofessional, and snide. I bet it wouldnt be that way in person.
Bunch of rude old guys who admittedly know their guns but it feels like pulling teeth getting info out of them people like this are the reason I try to do as much shopping as I can online
For firearms enthusiasts, First Stop is a great store to visit. They had a huge inventory of new and used firearms. They have much more than what is on display.
Best gun shop in town. Very knowledgeable staff. Great selection.
Crappy service and a good assortment of guns on Guns America. You wont see the guns in the shop to buy because they are in the basement to sell on line. Youre better off shopping on line and buying elsewhere.
Huge selection, friendly staff, and decent prices. They also have a wide selection of odd ball calibers and supplies which is nice to have.
Go in a lot to see about selection of firearms they have in and it seems like the staff has better things to do then help their customers. If you are an older customer or regular customer for them they have no problem dropping what they are doing and helping them out, but if your a younger clientele they don’t seem to help you out or try to educate you on their firearms. This disheartens me cause I know something’s but not much and I own several firearms. I like to support local businesses but for me to shop here again I would like the attitude of the staff to change cause to me it is unexceptable.
I have been dealing with First Stop Guns for about four years. I have never been pressured and people when ASKED have been extremely helpful. The selection of firearms at EXTREMELY competive pricing is extensive. I have dealt with Mark Blote in full confidence. I, personally, do not like a sales person constantly hounding me.
This place is kind of hit and miss. I certainly think there is merit in the comments about how they treat the customers. It really depends on who you end up talking to in this place as far as what kind of service you get. I talked with an older gentleman behind the gun counter and he was very helpful picking out a handgun. However, I did an FFL transfer there and the guy acted like I was wasting his time and annoyed the entire period that I was there. 30 bucks for about 20 minutes worth of time and paperwork. A lot of places would be happy to make those transactions. So, I do all my FFL transfers elsewhere. I drop in and give them business from time to time if I want Black Hills Ammunition, but that is about it. If Im going to buy a gun Ill just head a little farther down Main Street until I hit The Rooster. They are always happy to sell me stuff.
Great place to purchase guns and related supplies.
Amazing selection, great customer service and good prices! Wish there were more places like this still.
Alot of the staff is very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful.. Me and my family have been doing business there for years.
I bought a FNP .45 thru Rich and I could not ask for friendlier or faster transaction. He quickly setup the sale and transfer of the weapon on the same day of purchase and I received the pistol 2 days later thru my local gun dealer. The pistol was exactly like described in the ad on Guns America. I highly recommend First Stop Guns for there honest, fast and friendly service.
Good prices usually. Decent service. Good selection.
Way better deals than Cabelas. Trade all my firearms here. Got almost double trade in value than Cabelas offered on last rifle. Cabs offer was an insult. Four stars cause there isnt always someone to deal available.
Had a pretty good selection of guns. But unfortunately the staff there are extremely rude and seem like they dont wanna help anyone or be helpful when asked questions about pistols/rifles like operation and safety.
These are good guys and easy to deal with. I would highly recommend.
Great place to do buisness mark is a great person
Awesome place to do business with, very knowledgeable and helpful. Only place in my opinion to buy or sell guns!!!
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Great selection.
Great Gun Shop. This shop has a gunsmith in a awesome variety of firearms and other products.
Great selection, knowledgeable help, friendly help and I got a fair trade. Thank you first stop.
Great selection of firearms and great customer service.
Called and had asked for additional photos and was refused spent my 4000 dollars elsewhere
The last two times I was in Rapid City I stopped at First Stop. Both times the service was horrible. Even though it is a large store with multiple staff members, it was hard to get service. As I was trying to purchase firearms, the staff wouldnt give me the time of day because they were too busy with their buddies. Needless to say I didnt make a purchase. They have a gunsamerica online store, so I thought I would try there. Ordered a gun, when it ar4ived to my ffl the stock was broken....took 3 weeks to get a return tag from them. Returned the rifle, recieved refund. A couple weeks later noticed the same gun listed online, no notice that the stock was cracked. I emailed and askef the owner about it, he said it was professionally repaired and that it would be listed in the ad. He then offered to sell it to me at a reduced rate, i said yes and would be sending payment. Before payment was sent the manager emailed me saying someone else was interested in it, WOW, I told him to go ahead and sell it. Needless to say I will NOT be doing business with First Stop in the future...I just hope they let the buyer know about the stock!!!!!
Great selection and friendly staff. If you dont see what you are looking for they are willing to order it for you too.
Good service and prices, Staff is very knowledgeable
I would give this place zero stars if I could. I went here to do an FFL gun transfer and the staff was extremely rude to me from the moment I walked in the door. I took my business elsewhere and wont be coming back.
It is always the First Stop when we come to Rapid City South Dakota.
This establishment has no business being in the gun business. The staff, at least the one I dealt with, had no idea what my gun was. Do not quote someone a ballpark price if you cant even find the proper firearm. I will not be back to this store and if you are thinking about going to do business here, look for a more competent firearms store.
Very good selection of products.
Good selection and locally owned.
Stopped in for some bullets. I dont think they had what I was looking for.
Good spot to buy a gun.
Very knowledgeable, good prices, well staffed
Great weapons, terrible customer service as far as politeness & courtesies go..
Owners and staff are great !!! only shop for me !!!! thanks guys !!! for all the great service
Busy place!! Great inventory!!
Good customer service
Great gun shop
