What was most amazing was that the modifications were discussed over the phone and the finished piece was delivered EXACTLY as I had requested. They truly appreciate the preservation of quality made old things as is evident in their knowledge, professionalism, and craftsmanship. I had a pair of French empire chairs completely refinished. They did everything exactly as I had asked and made suggestions to even better the outcome. From my first visit to delivery the service was excellent and professional. This is not a place for something you got a bargain on. I inherited two drop leaf end tables that my grandparents purchased in New York in the 1920s. The finish was yellowed and cracked, and I was worried that the beautiful wood beneath would be damaged. I was thrilled to to see the transformation - Mumford restored them to their original beauty, and the mahogany and maple inlays look absolutely gorgeous!

I had Mumford work on a restoration and repurposing project using my great-grandmothers vintage Singer sewing machine base. I had them make it into a side table. I was blown away by the finished project. They took a very rusty iron base and made it into a gorgeous work of art for my living room. I have attached the before and after pictures. Spencer and his team worked incredible magic and Im forever grateful to them for making this piece into an amazing family heirloom. They are truly masters of their craft.

I had Mumford Restoration work on my 1962-era Seth Thomas Helmsman clock set. This was a keepsake, a family heirloom and holds my fondest memories of my Father as this set was on his 38 Chris Commander in the early 80s (Florida).. which probably contributed to the degradation of the brass finish over time. I would like to give a ten star review of Mumford Antique Restoration in Raleigh, NC —unfortunately I’m limited to only 5 stars. I brought them a gold leaf antique mirror that has been in our family for several generations. The mirror was broken in several places as it was not only bumped by a large piece of furniture but also had then fallen onto the floor. I was able to pick up the pieces but really had little hope of having it truly restored. I spoke with Joanna Bishop-Tyler at Mumford’s when I brought it in and she let me know that they would have to contact an outside expert to have a look at it and decide the best way to repair the damage. She was lovely and reassuring and I left thinking that my family mirror was in good hands. It was. When I came to pick it up I was totally amazed! I could not see a single place where there had been a break and the gold leaf looked perfect too. I will say that it was not inexpensive to restore but I could not have been more pleased. I am now bringing another family antique to them for them to restore. Repeat business is really the highest form of praise.

I am beyond thrilled with how my grandparents 1920s Victrola turned out. I am the 5th generation to own this piece and over the years it had become very fragile, worn and no longer played music. Mumford Restoration fixed the function of the Victrola and also made it more durable and look beautiful. I am thankful that we can now keep this piece in the family for 5+ more generations! I have weeks added back to my life! I was determined to find someone to condition my teak furniture this year instead of doing it myself, yet again. A google search led me to Mumford Restoration and their amazing service. The furniture was a mix of high-quality, worth holding on to, and old but sentimental pieces I didnt want to replace. All 29 pieces came back looking like new - some even better than the original. It wasnt cheap, but so worth the cost both in restoring the furniture instead of replacing and achieving a finish I never came close to getting on my own. I echo the reviewer who influenced my decision who said I wish I had done this sooner. I will be using this service annually from now on. They were professional in every way and I highly recommend them.

I have often wondered in these reviews as to who writes these reviews?These comments come from a customer off the street who has absolutely no affiliation with Mumford. It was a blessing from God, that we found Mumford.We just got a leather chair back from Mumford. The leather chair was purchased from Restoration Hardware and the manufacturer was Mitchell Gold. The leather on arm of this expensive chair split open and sat like this for years trying to find somebody to fix the chair. BTW, this chair was babied and not neglected as all chair repair people start a conversation. Mitchell Gold (in Hickory) would only point you to somebody in NY. Luckily, we found Mumford. First saw examples at an antique show, years ago. Then, saw their ad in My State.The workmanship on the chair arms is simply outstanding. We could not be more satisfied. The workmanship of the arms is better than we first purchased the chair.Thank you

I took them a large brass engraved tabletop from the middle east. It had damaged areas from attempts at cleaning it. They wereable to repair and clean it perfectly!! You can not see any damage at all. They also put a protective coating on it that will last years. I am so in love with it!!

Today Mumford returned a newly-repaired Victorian style loveseat and a very old drop leaf desk, both of which had belonged to my great grandmother, grandmother and mother. Mumford staff members rebuilt the feet on the cherry desk and the moulding on the loveseat. No one would be able to look at these pieces and believe how damaged they were when Mumford picked them up. The work is just beautiful. The moving crew was fully masked, and showed great care in handling my beloved antiques. Recommend without reservation!

Mumford Restoration did an amazing restorative job on a caned chair that was over 50 years old--you cant tell the new chair from the old ones.

Not that impressed initially as the finish was a bit dull. However, after a negative post I was contacted immediately and the table was refinished with a much nicer result. I think sometimes you can tell how good a vendor is in the way they respond to problems. Mumford was great and I would highly recommend them.

My husband and I wanted my father-in-laws old military steamer trunk restored and Mumford Restoration did such a wonderful job. This is the nicest company. I took my couch cushion to get repaired and although they were out of my price range, the people at Mumford Restoration ended up giving my recommendations on how to fix this even though they wouldnt profit or get a sale. I mean, who does that? But thats not all.I left my cushion there for a little over a week because I was out of town. They fixed it for free. Im totally shocked. What a great company.

The entire crew at Mumford is extremely friendly and professional as well as knowledgeable. They restored some flood-damaged Victorian furniture for me that had belonged to my great-great grandparents. Restoration is generally not cheap and can be a big decision. Mr Mumford came to my home to assess the pieces and gave me very clear choices as to the level and cost of restoration I wanted as well as lots of information about the furniture I had. When I went to the warehouse to pick out upholstery, the staff was so helpful and kept it from being an overwhelming process. I would trust Mumford to handle any future restoration projects and would recommend them enthusiastically to anyone interested in preserving important pieces.

Bernard Mumford and his shop refinished a hundred year old Mason and Hamlin parlor grand piano. It has been in our family since the early 1900s and moved around quite a lot. It was in good shape but needed restoration of the wood, keys and brass. Bernard took it away in May and returned it in August. What a beautiful job he did. It is gorgeous. He worked hard getting the appropriate materials (and when he could not, made them himself). His price was more than fair considering the hours spent in stripping it and refurbishing it. He invited us to the shop a number of times so we could observe the process and make suggestions. Bernard was extremely accommodating. If you have any piece you value but needs restorative work Bernard Mumford is your man.

In a recent interstate move my antique cherry dining room table suffered great damage. The table has two pedestals with three curved legs on each pedestals. Four of those legs were broken into pieces. One of the dining room chairs also suffered breakage. I really did not think there was much hope for the table, but I called Mumford Restorations and asked for an opinion and estimate. Spencer was very knowledgeable and said that he thought the table and chair could be repaired. Three weeks later I had my table and chair back in remarkable condition. They did a beautiful job. It was expensive, but this was very time consuming and meticulous work done by craftsmen. Thank you for restoring my grandmothers table to me.

We had Mumford Restoration redo some sofa cushions for us. While they did exactly what we asked, we didnt like the results. They worked with us to see what we didnt like and they redid the cushions. They were great to work with and worked with us until we were happy. We would highly recommend them.

Jason Glover was both helpful and professional in the course of providing three services: 1) dropping off a restored art deco lamp; 2) repairing the base of a previously restored art object; and 3) removing a wooden support beam from the bottom of my office desk. With respect to the latter, Jason demonstrated considerable skill, ingenuity and attention to detail.

During our recent move across the country, our 1950s Italian ceramic Guido Gambone statue was broken. The arm of the horseman snapped right off. New to the area, we found Mumford on Yelp. I submitted some photos and a request for a quote via their website. Spencer contacted me within one day to ask me if I could bring the statue in to their shop. After I left the horse at the shop, I realized that I hadnt been given a receipt, but I decided to have faith and trust that our family heirloom was in good hands. Within a week, Spencer emailed me a written estimate for the cost of repair. It detailed the work to be done, including cleaning, attaching, filling and painting the broken piece. I OKd the work, and appreciated the fact that they didnt ask for a deposit. Thats good, old-fashioned business. Spencer called about a week later to let us know that the work was complete. We were happy to see that they had re-attached the broken piece and touched up the paint. You can hardly see that the piece has been repaired. If you squint your eyes and look just right, you can see a hairline crack, but its way better than I could have done with a tube of crazy glue. For $244, it was worth the peace of mind to let the experts fix our family treasure. It was a pleasure doing business with this honorable and reputable company.

This was the second time I used Mumford Restoration. The first time was to restore 45+ year old bedroom furniture. They did a great job. This time we had a dining room chair with cane back that had ripped. This was part of a 40 year old dining room set. The finished chair looks like new with its replaced cane backing.

Great customer service, and they took obvious care in handling my antique wingback chair. They also reupholstered a newer rocking chair for me, and I will definitely be going back to them for other antique restoration. Im looking forward to working with them again.

Jason expertly reattached the piece of trim molding that had been dislodged when my antique oak hall seat was shipped from Denver. Meanwhile, his helper removed the excess wax from the top of my antique oak buffet, touched up a number of dings in the wood, then applied a new coat of sealer and hand-buffed the surface, removing virtually all of the dull patches that were visible before.To finish the hall seat, both of them worked on applying a color-matched wood filler to conceal the new nail holes, then filled the corner joint and sculpted the wood filler to match the ornate contours of the joint. The hall seat now shows no signs of the shipping damage -- a job well done!The only reason I didnt make this a five-star review was the cost factor. The two technicians were at my house for less than an hour. Actually it was closer to 45 minutes, but I rounded up to 2 man-hours of work. After making a generous allowance of $20 for the cost of a few nails and some wood filler, I calculated the effective hourly labor rate for the job at almost $400/hour, which seemed excessive to me. If the labor component included a charge for travel time, I would have expected that to show as a separate line item on the invoice I received. In summary: high-quality work, but at a price that would make me think twice before using them for future projects that Im planning.

They did a decent job. I wasnt thrilled with the work, especially for the price. I had them repair a ripped canvas. To do this they had to take it off the canvas and paste it onto a styrofoam board. The places where it was ripped are still noticeable and I almost feel like this was something I could have just done myself. Once I frame it and hang it up it will look nice though and unless you are looking for the rip you probably wont be able to tell. I just feel for the price I paid it should have looked brand new. Or they could have at least framed it for me.

Mumford did a beautiful job painting my grandmothers depression era hutch. It went from a dark old stain with broken trim, to a fresh, creamy white updated hutch with all repairs completed. A treasure for me and my family!

Mumford Restoration has repaired and reupholstered furniture for me on several occasions and the quality of the work is always superb. I would recommend them highly.

We had a fire and sent our antique furniture away to Mumfords to be restored. They worked with us within our budget and we were able to get the furniture cleaned and stripped, as we couldnt afford full service on all our pieces. However, when the pieces came back, we were charged for some work that was not performed, cleaned items still had soot, quoted repairs were not performed, etc, and had to dispute the bill with them. It was resolved with a refund and then we asked them to repair one of the most fire-damaged pieces with new veneer. The original piece was center-matched crotch-grain burl but it was replaced with book-matched plain veneer...the workmanship was fine but not like the original piece.All in all, the customer service was nice, but you should pay close attention to the work performed to make sure you get what you are quoted.
