I used to go to other big outdoor stores for my climbing gear, but now I only come here. They have everything you would ever need for all types of climbing, and they have super nice and chill employees who know everything there is to know about climbing. They will set you up with the best gear, and even take the time to make sure you know how to properly use it. The salesman selling me a Grigri took 15 minutes or so to show me how to properly use it. Ten out of ten, would recommend
Great routes. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Were new to the area and Josh at the shop, Mountainworks, gave us a bunch of suggestions for hiking and outdoor climbing.
Hands down the best people and all around climbing/mountaineering shop in UT. Its been 7 years and its like we never skipped a beat.- New to climbing or mountaineering, theyre your people! They will fit you for a shoe appropriate for your foot shape, size, style of climbing, and rock preferences.- Already a climbing veteran, theyve got route and beta recommendations for every type of rock and crag in UT whether you want to go tower hunting, peak bagging, or rack up for a 14+.Simply put, its hard to go wrong with the folks who, among other things, developed a lot of Maple Canyon (and wrote the guidebook for it) and yearly put in thousands of $$$ into new routes and anchor replacement up and down the state!
Took my wife and 3 of my daughters in for ice climbing rentals. The team was easy to work with, very helpful, and gave lots of tips/tricks foe us as first-timers! I’ve been here many times and it’s always a great experience!!
Excellent. Knowledgeable and competent staff. Will go back again to buy rock climbing equipment. Thanks guys!
Have loved every visit to Mountianworks! The guy that has worked the store when I have gone both times that I have made purchases was very helpful! He helped us find the right (personalized) gear and always gave us a great discount! Highly recommend the $100 harness package! When compared to the best deals that I find online, they have always been VERY competitive!
This is the premier climbing shop in Utah county. The entire staff is extremely knowledgeable. Darren, the owner, has established hundreds - if not thousands - of local climbing routes and even wrote the Maple Canyon guidebook. The shop is small, but the selection is still pretty good- definitely better than other non-specialty retailers like REI or Als Sporting Goods. And the guidebook selection is LEGENDARY! What this shop lacks in size, it makes up for in staff expertise. Theyre especially helpful when it comes to fitting climbing shoes, which is why I always bring my friends there to find their first pair!
If you want the best gear from people who really know what they are talking about then go the Mountainworks. You are getting not only awesome gear at a reasonable price, but access to an entire culture that will change the enjoyment you get from climbing.
Darren was stellar! i bought my first pair of shoes and he was super helpful helping me get the right shoe for what i want to do and making sure it was the right size. I am never going to another shop. Super attentive and very knowledgeable!
Guys are great for recommending shoes for all different skill levels. Gave me a fair price.
What can I really say about this place? You wont get the elitist Im a climber and Im more awesome than you attitude from this place, ever. Ive been to plenty of gear shops where I get ignored and talked down to just because I dont fit the fashion profile of a hardcore climber. What I always get when I walk in this store is Hey, you want to do something fun? Let us help you make that happen! The selection is surprisingly good for the small space, and they carry excellent brands and product. The employees know what they are doing and have great knowledge of their products. Their prices are excellent, and they have helped me out on numerous occasions going well beyond what I would ever expect. Mountainworks is a shining example of what the outdoor world needs in a gear shop. A place that helps enable you to go outside and have fun. I will never spend another dime elsewhere on climbing gear, my wallet is theirs. Bravo!
I dont often give out 5 star reviews, but I absolutely have to for Mountainworks. Bought my first pair of climbing shoes here and will never go online for shoe shopping. Darren ensured a correct fit, puts you on a ladder to get a good feel for it, and talks you through what to look for. Buy your shoes locally, save a lot of hassle with returns, and learn a lot.
The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful! They were able to provide great information as well! I felt they knew their stuff and weren’t trying to force sales at me but that they wanted to help me be the best climber I could be. I was very grateful for their help and kindness! I highly recommend this place!!
Went in to rent some boots for ice climbing and had no problems. Guy was friendly in helping make sure I had the right fit for a day of climbing, and they worked great. No problems and I wont hesitate renting or buying from them in the future
Love this shop! Great guys to have help me around! Very knowledgeable, great salesmen! Very friendly
This shop is a perfect example of why I like to shop at small local store as opposed to franchised stores. It is owned by local climbers who are passionate about the sport and who create a community. The store has a hometown feel while still providing superior service. They have a good selection of rock climbing gear, shoes and ropes. The staff is helpful and friendly. If you like mountains, shop here.
Shop owner is really cool, helpful, and honest. Staff Ive met are all really helpful, and know way more than any of the staff at REI or ALs do when it comes to climbing and climbing equipment!
Favorite place to get climbing gear and beta! They won’t try to get you to buy the expensive stuff, but the good stuff. They are willing to help you get the right stuff YOU need! The staff know their stuff! Definitely best climbing store hands down!
This is the ONLY place Ill buy my gear. The people here are always happy to help or explain. They look forward to opportunities to chat with you about what projects you are working on, what your goals are for climbing and they are the best at offering advice even if that means sending you to a different store to buy what is going to be best for your needs. If you purchase here, keep purchasing your stuff here. The regulars tend to get a little extra special treatment which I appreciate because climbing can get EXPENSIVE! For example, I needed to buy a new pair of shoes because the ones I had were beyond any help. I called to ask about what the Black Friday sales would be, figuring I would wait to climb again. When I explained my situation the owner told me to come in and he would give me the discount on Tuesday so I didnt have to put my training on hold. Always such good people here. I trust them with all of my climbing needs which literally can translate to trusting them with my life.
One of the employees helped me for almost an hour to find the perfect climbing shoe - which I love by the way. So knowledgeable, so helpful, so willing to answer questions. Best store around for climbing gear.
Love this place, Darren has the most knowledge of the area and gear that I have seen. Great deals and prices. I come here just to hang out too
I love the Quarry!! Its a GREAT place to go climbing and to improve on your bouldering and top rope skills. They change walls regularly so there is always a new challenge. Friday and Saturday nights are always super busy.
The staff here has always been helpful. If there is something they dont have theyll order it in and have it within 1-3 days. Good knowledge on local climbing areas to.
Excellent customer service! Always ready to help you. If they dont have the product they will find it for you. Great management. I recommend to shop in this store.
I like shopping here, sometimes I feel that they can be pushy to get a sell and Ive seen some of the staff really talk down to the customers that are less familiar with the climbing world. Management is awesome however, very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and with an incredible amount of experience. Very great to have chat with if you are really into climbing.
I love coming here for my climbing gear. The staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable about all the gear. I have had a good experience every time I come in.
Amazing place! Christopher took the time and not only helped us get exactly what we needed, but taught us why we needed certain things and brands! Great customer service and selection!
This place is fantastic! As a new climber I went in to purchase my very first set of climbing shoes and the worker did an excellent job of helping me pick out the right shoes for the best price. Id highly recommend coming here to have all your questions answered about what type of gear you need or if you are wondering about anything else that has to do with the sport. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and great discounts.
Spent some time talking to Daren the owner last week. He was an awesome dude and gave some awesome info for a beginner climber! He was really patient and helped me for a long time, even though my questions were really basic. You should buy your gear here, the staff is a wealth of specialized knowledge that you wont get from big box stores like REI. The prices at mountain works are either the same or better, so be sure to stop in and support a good company that gives great knowledge freely! The store truly is an asset to our community.
Love mountain works. Darren is both knowledgeable and an enthusiastic supporter of the climbing community. He knows it can be hard to climb on a budget, but also knows the importance of quality equipmentand strikes a good balance in the shop.
Good store. Lots of gear. Reasonable prices. The staff is hit and miss, sometimes very friendly and knowledgeable and other times doesn’t seem to know the gear.
A lot of places will sell you climbing gear, but Mountainworks will make sure you get exactly what you need. They know their stuff, theyre passionate about what they do, they are very friendly. I have nothing but positive things to say about how this store is run.
There is always a friendly smiling face greeting me when I stop at Mountain Works. The employees use the gear and know it well. Their excitement to show the latest and greatest is contagious. Yeah I may have come away with a piece or two of gear that I had not intended to buy going in, but I’ve never regretted that! =) And if you are looking for area info or beta this is the shop for that too. Good prices, excellent gear, friendly expert advice, it doesn’t get any better.
Love mountainworks! Theyre great help for choosing new gear
Got my new climbing shoes here. Excellent service. Thank you Darren for your expertise.
Darren and Chris both make great recommendations supported by tons of experience. Lots of fun talking with these guys!
First time I went in I was told they didnt have the shoe model in my size but they expceted to get another shipment soon. Fine. That salesman was fairly personable. However, I went in the following week and the other salesman I spoke with was super pushy, he didnt listen to me at all and just kept saying oh thats how its supposed to feel. I asked to try 11 1/2 shoes but he just said they dont have them and the company stopped making them . I said well thats fine but this size is not going to make for good climbing but he just kept saying oh yeah thats how its supposed to feel.So I bought shoes at Out N Back in Orem. Im not saying I wouldnt go back but itd have to be a really, really good sale.
Been in a couple times to get new shoes and gear, they’re always super helpful and the dude in the shops legit, knows what he’s talking about
I guess most climbers in the Utah valley area already know about this place. So my review is to newer climbers or climbers new to Utah Valley: Go. Honestly I love talking to the guys there. Go and ask them questions. They all love climbing and honestly getting their feedback is fantastic. All of them are experienced so they can give you good advice. Plus, its because of Darren, the guy who owns the place, that we have so many of the routes that we have here in Utah valley and Utah period. So go. Chat with them. Theyll give you honest advice on good beginning gear and other gear as you improve. Theyll tell you the best priced gear for top performance and honestly their prices are competitive with REI, Amazon, and Backcountry and often times theyre better. Plus their selection is second to none. If you plan on climbing here in Utah valley, drop in to get some gear or some feedback. Sucks that someone on here had a crappy experience there. To date I never have. Hope that helps.
They’re the best. Very helpful and knowledgeable—makes me want to support!
Mountainworks is hands down the best gear shop youll ever find. They always have the newest guidebooks, the best gear, and the most helpful staff. Every time you enter the shop, theyre friendly and knowledgable. I learn something new everytime I walk in. They will help you pick the right gear for what you need at the best price.100% recommend that you shop here.P.S. the owner also maintains and sets a ton of the local areas, including Maple Canyon, Rock Canyon, and American Fork. Help the community out. Shop here.
Best climbing shop with the best people. Darren (owner) always has his customers as his top priority, not to mention all he’s done for climbing in Utah. Get your gear here!
Darrin is extremely knowledgeable and fun to talk to. They have a good selection of great but I go there for knowledge, help and the occasional new item to try out.
Awesome, awesome customer service. What great people you have!
Great climbing shop, the guys there know their gear pretty well and they have a good variety of stuff. Great place to get local climbing advice as well.
Devin was awesome, he helped us select the right equipment and was super knowledgeable. I will definatly purchase my rock climbing equipment through them in the future.
Great customer service! Experienced climbers work here
The staff is always friendly and helpful, this is definitely my first choice for my climbing needs!
Best coustomer service I’ve ever had
Staff was very helpful in showing and suggesting harnesses, and the prices are very good.
Awesome experience, very knowledgeable staff, and tons of stuff to choose from -- Thanks for the help Darrin.
Always top notch, great people, great knowledge and great service!
Great knowledge and super friendly
Darren and his staff are great! They know all the local rocks and just about any place you want to go.
I buy all my gear here, and I love it!
Super friendly and always willing to talk story. Love this place
The staff here is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to gear and local beta! Do yourself a favor and stop by!
I just started taking a climbing class at UVU, I figured it would be the easiest way to learn and get into climbing. I was right The Quarry next door is incredible, they might seem rude at first but once they get to know you they are all very helpful and very nice (just a little shy)! I went into mountain works to learn about the gear, how much it would cost me, and what I actually needed to get started. The people here are super helpful! I asked a lot of probably silly common sense questions but there was never any eye rolling towards me. I learned a lot and they said to me they are here to teach, assist, and make sure I have everything I need and make sure it all fits right. As far as harnesses and shoes they let you try it all on and make sure you have the right fit before you leave the store. I havent made any purchases yet as I am obviously in college and need to save some money first. I was going to buy all my gear at REI but after this experience I wont buy my climbing stuff anywhere else. I was very impressed! Local climbing shop for the win!****EDIT 12/20/2014****The guys are still very knowledgeable and very helpful but when it comes to ordering something from them that they dont have in stock just forget about it. A buddy of mine bought some shoes from them that were currently out of stock but they said they would order them for him. A week passes and when we call they told him they didnt know when they would be here and gave a total guess I dont know probably next Monday. So Monday rolls around we both go and in an they guy has no idea what we are talking about and later we discover they havent even been ordered yet!! He got the shoes maybe a week later but it was just the communication and him having to chase them down that was not very professional in my opinion. So they lost one star.I ordered some shoes from them too so lets see if they regain their star or lose another. To be Continued....They said they would arrive the Monday after Christmas and they did. I got my shoes on time despite weather. This experience was great so I will give them the last star back!
Best pro shop in the state! Darren and the Mountainworks team have done more for the climbing community than they will ever realize.
I once went down to Moab to climb at Wallstreet. The trouble was...I did not know anything about Wallstreet but wanted to check it out. I went to the local climbing shop and they would not tell me anything until I purchased a guidebook. The folks at Mountainworks are quite the opposite. They are always friendly and willing to share information about local crags. They are knowledgeable about the gear they sell and excited about the sport which is evident in everything they do. I highly recommend doing your Christmas shopping (and all other excuses to purchase gear) at Mountainworks.
Best resource around for gear and for Utah beta.
Great shop with really helpful workers
First time. Great facility and staff.
Helpful and friendly staff
Awesome Service and good selection
Dope store, Darren took care of me, helped with all my questions and fittings!
They are the best climbing equipment supply store Ive been to.
Excellent service.
Best climbing shop in Utah!!!
